nice clean restaurant friendly helpful staff fish was tasty batter crisp chips had a lot of bits of chips in them which i dont mind but the wife doesn't all served hot

Waited 30 mins for takeaway because restaurant persistently prioritised Deliveroo / Jus Eat orders. My hungry toddler was not impressed and neither was I.

Not been here for many years but was certainly not disappointed. Went for lunch and we both ordered small haddock. We should also have specified small portion of chips but, unlike many restaurants, the chips were crisp and golden without being hard. Simply perfect! The fish was beautifully moist in a light crispy batter and again, just about perfect. Service was good and we didnt feel rushed. If I must be critical the chairs were a bit hard on these ancient bones! With drinks, a meal for two was just over £20 which is very reasonable these days. We will certainly be back!

Called for lunch. Everything cooked fresh. The best haddock I’ve ever had. Crispy crunch batter, beautiful white chunky fish. Lovely waitress

Was spotless ,but under staffed.lot of people walked out to long to being served,fish under cooked,could be one off ,no WiFi,said would have to get code from next door but to busy, should have code on wall were you can see it

A group of 15 of us turned up unexpectedly for a fish and chip supper. The service, given our large number was excellent. Our orders were taken and prepared promptly. The food was beautifully cooked and well presented. We were able to move tables together so that we could be seated comfortably together and it made an ideal place to sit, chat and enjoy a meal. My husband and I have eaten at Mr Chips regularly over many years and have never been disappointed, despite it being under different ownerships. Tonight we felt pleased to have recommended it.

One of the best fish, chips and peas we have ever received. Service was excellent. You cannot get better. Fresh and clean tasting, we will be going back. Five star rating.

We certainly got stuffed. Mother had scampi and chips, she really enjoyed the scampi, couldn't finish all the chips though. My brother and I had a jumbo and chips each. The jumbo only just fit into the box let alone my ever expanding waistline. We were served by Mollie who cooked and Meg who took the order and payment. Friendly polite and I was in and out quickly, just how I like it.

Just eaten for the first time in the restaurant.. Totally delicious, the fish was so fresh and battered to perfection!. The chips and condiments were fresh and tasty. Service was superb and staff friendly, the atmosphere was relaxed and inviting. We shall be returning very soon.

Wanted eat-in fish and chips and you just wouldn't believe it would you - how difficult that is since Covid!We live on the coast between Skegness and Mablethorpe so you'd expect to have dozens of f and c restaurants open nearby ... Nope ...most only going take-away so ended-up phoning Mr Chips in Louth, miles away!Very friendly/efficient on phone - yes "open for inside meals until 7".Both had haddock, me on a deal with tea, side and b and b. As a southerner was staggered that big gherkins were available. Most Lincs places have never even heard of them let alone got them!Good price, good f & c, good gherkin ...did I mention that already ha ha ... Tea decent (bread as ever thin supermarket sliced, sadly, but that's standard everywhere) and, most importantly, excellent Covid precautions in place.We'll be back!Thanks to staff and owners.PS One bizarre thing though: if you use the loo, it's like platform nine and a half (or whatever) at Kings Cross station - suddenly you're in Fantasyland. You'll only know what I mean if you use the loo. Don't get lost!!!

I just had to write this review as I really wasn’t satisfied with my fish and chips, we went in on the eat out to help out Tue dinner, I had cod and chips, the cod was very wet the batter was soggy, I ended up with a wet plate, the chips was cooked but looked white and just wasn’t nice even though there was loads of them on my plate, no taste from the fish or chips. We had a cup of coffee that turned out to be half a cup,. No sorry I won’t be back and pleased I didn’t pay full price for them

Went to the takeaway side and not impressed at all. Ordered the food for 4 people and was overcharged. I usually add my order up before ordering and after paying I did question the amount I was charged. The girl looked blankly and I asked if I could have a receipt and was told no. The other woman looked at the till and said she’d charged me for large chips so returned 40p to me. The chips and curry was served up in a thin cardboard box so the curry sauce seeped through the bottom. I still wasn’t satisfied with the amount charged so added it up again after we left and she had still overcharged me by another 90p. Far to say we won’t be visiting again

Never had a bad peace of haddock from mr chips always lovely flakey haddock and the fishcakes actually have flakes of fish in them chips are always crispy on the out side and fluffy on the inside I highly recommend

What started as a quick lunch break snack turned into a full blown huge haddock and chips almost couldn't finish it as there was too much. Had a refreshing slush as well which took me straight back to my childhood. Staff were attentive and friendly.

Visited mum this week in Louth, she loves going so we accompanied her, had fish and chips and mushy peas, couldn't believe the amount of variation on the menu. Fish was cooked well, batter crisp. Bill was half price too due to eat out special. Will return at some point when we come back to visit mum.

Social distancing measures in place, we queued up and were directed to a table. Order was taken promptly by a nice and happy young lady, ordered a jumbo haddock, chips and beans. When it came it was piping hot, cooked beautifully and tasted divine. I'd missed going out for food whilst on lockdown. It was busy, but everyone did as they should so I'll definitely be going again.

Fantastic service as always.The staff can’t do enough for you. I’ve been here several times as a big family booking also and have thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Our visit to Mr Chips was out first since the lockdwon restrictions had been lifted. My previous visits had been so enjoyable alongside a highly professional service myself and my family new we would be in safe hands. As always our Fish & Chips were excellent, served in good time, with all Mr Chips staff being friendly and highly professional in their approach to the demands of these difficult times. Looking forward to our next meal. Thank you all.

Fond memories of visiting Mr Chips as a cold living in Louth. When I heard it had closed I was so sad. Visiting Louth today and seeing in it in its new incarnation I was overwhelmed. A new Mr Chips for the 2020s and, dare I say it, the food better than I remember ❤️❤️❤️

Best fish and chips in Louth. If we fancy fish and chips then Mr Chips is where we go every time, the fish is always excellent and so are the chips. If your visiting Louth and your hungry then definitely check them out.

We had 2 jumbo specials on take away,the fish was a very good size nice and white and flaky.new potato chips can not fault at all, service was amazing. I have a great appetite but even I struggled to eat it all 10/10

Had a lovely jumbo haddock and chips with proper Heinz beans on the first day they have opened since lockdown and the quality and service is as good as it ever was, in fact the social distancing they have implemented is extremely good and well thought out. Hats off to team.

Bought Fish and Chips to take away which were excellent. They were cooked to perfection and the boxes they use to pack the food keeps it as good as when it was made. We will certainly use this place again and would highly recommend it.

Entered, greeted with a smile and asked what I'd like, there were a couple of people in the queue awaiting food, ordered a jumbo haddock and I was going to eat in, shown to a table, asked if I'd like a drink. Food was served in a very good time frame. Piping hot and fresh, the chips crisp and a lovely golden colour. The beans were delicious and heinz. A very good experience.

Visited yesterday (Tuesday) had our usual fish, chips, mushy peas, fresh brown bread & butter & pot of tea, everything cooked to perfection beautiful white fish, tasty chips no complaints whatsoever, service excellent, staff pleasant & hard working including Kelly who I believe was the fryer & helped deliver meals after plating up. Keep up the good work we will be back soon for more of your fabulous fish & chips.

Had recommendations on this place, one of our party of 4 had been regularly in the past so was looking forward to getting a decent fish & chip meal.After walking all round the restaurant for a table there appeared to be 5 empty tables, we seated ourselves near to the counter, waited about 10 minutes yet still no.one came to take our order although they did go and take orders at 3 other tables that had sat down after us (all groups of school children that had come in).At this point I walked up the counter and politely asked if we could have our order taken, was told to go sit & a waitress would follow.Order was taken. Food waiting time was about 15 minutes. 2 set cod meals came which should have included bread. No bread came, had to go to counter and ask. Waitress brought it and dumped it on the table with a definite attitude.3rd cod meal included a sausage, not sausage & no bread & butter delivered, again.. had to go and ask.4th meal, boiled cod.. no bread delivered.. didnt bother asking for it.2 cods were cooked, 3rd & 4th cod was translucent and mushy.. and had a funny amonia type smell to it. Both my friends left the fish as they said it was not cooked properly.1 person had a coffee of which he received 3 quarters of a cup. We asked if they could top it up & waitress brought a pot of hot waterBy this point we knew not to even bother approaching waitress again due to the issue of keep having to moan (embbarrasing) and her attitude.Went up counter to pay the bill, server kept walking off as we stood there, knew not to even bother bringing up all the issues.. and then while standing there ready to put card in machine someone from the takeaway counter came and just took the card machine away to use over there. So now we had to wait ! All in all, I would not refer this place to anyone. This may have been a one off or maybe standards have dropped I dont know, but this was an awful experience in all ways.

Best chippy in Louth by far, big portions at a very reasonable price, the fish I had today was absolutely perfectly cooked, the staff are really friendly plus the array of condiments was a surprise, definitely will be back. Mick

we bought fish from them the other day and the fish was on the turn ,, 3 days later we cant get the smell of bad fish out of the car even with Febreze,, DEFINATELY WON'T BE GOING THERE AGAIN

Bought fish and chips to go. There were lots of variety on the menu including Thai fish cakes which was something a bit different, but back to the fish and chips... the fish was cooked freshly whilst we waited and was lovely and white with crispy batter. The chips were great and the portion was good and a fair price.

My self and wife tried Jumbo Haddock and chips with a side of mushy peas.There was plenty of chips but the Jumbo was far from that the menu states 12 - 14oz it was more like a 10oz at best the batter was light and crisp however the fish was not the freshest as advertised being delivered from Grimsby every day.I did eat most of mine but my wife ended up leaving the thick end of her fish as it tasted foul and stunk terrible i tried it and it was like ammonia a sure sign of old fish.I certainly wouldnt be returning as when i mentioned the fish wasnt that great i was just told thats £ 15.20 please a young girl said its fresh every day from a chap in Grimsby she didnt know who though she did say ill mention it to her boss , coming from Grimsby and working in a fish shop and a local fish merchant i like to think i know good or bad when visiting fish and chip shops and this wasnt one of the best.

Just took order of large chip takeaway only to open it, after I got home, to what I can only describe as a regular portion of chips in a large box. Quality of food good, but overall very disappointing.

Just had jumbo fish n chips with mushy peas takeaway and if seagulls were sounding off outside I would of thought I was in Whitby. Come to Louth and try this Lincolnshire Chippy !! The staff are brilliant and the food was delicious. What more can I say then Come on Down !!!!

Can remember going in here as a child when I think it was Hagans I don't live in the area but after it reopened thought I would give it a try. Just a meal to take out we both enjoyed our food a trip down memory lane

well ,iv been here before and was well impressed ,only to go last Friday and well was disappointed ,i had regular haddock and my first impressions on eating it was it was a bit watery only when i got to the tail end my thoughts were proven, i did not enjoy it and it was not cooked, as it had water in it which you only get from frozen fish , on explaining this to counter staff that it was for their good i was telling them this, as customers would not come back if this is what happens. their response was id eaten it so it must have been ok, well im eating else were in future sorry you have lost a few customers,plenty of good fish and chips in louth

Best fish and chips in town. fish is light and fluffy, not greasy or lathered in batter. chips are crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. amazing value for money with friendly staff and modern style restaurant. perfect way to end a morning shopping or to take a break during a busy day. also highly recommend the battered sausage and curry sauce. 10/10 will be going back for more

Served lunchtime today by a lovely friendly young lady, food was of an excellent standard as always. Dietary requirements were catered for without hesitation and nothing was too much trouble when checking ingredients .

Mr Chips has been a firm family favourite ever since I was small (that's over 40 years now). All the family have visted countless times.

Just had the worst fish and chips I have ever had. The standard of fish and chips we were just served would be an embarrassment to Mr Chips previous owners. Burnt fish, dirty batter and under cooked chips covered in black bits. Very disappointing as it used to be faultless every time.

I visited with my little girl recently and have also had a take away (or two). The service was great, the friendly waitress was very polite and helpful, service with a smile! The food came in good time and, as with the take aways I have collected, was very nice. The fish was excellent and the chips were great too. It all tasted fresh I had a very pleasant experience all in all. Will certainly be going back, for the food and the great service. Absolutely the best Fish and Chip restaurant in Louth, no doubt about it.

Came here for lunch with a few colleagues on a weekday afternoon , as soon as I entered staff were very fridndly and welcoming. Did not have to wait too long for our meals and food was amazing , batter was nice and light and chips were cooked to perfection. Would definitely recommend.

Fantastic service, great food and plenty of it. Freshly cooked, it was busy but table service was quick and informative. Quickness due to set amount of tables per server so they can concentrate on few customers.

have been here twice now and i must say i know good fish and chips as i buy my fish on grimsby docks, the place is clean ,and staff friendly the price is good, and even with tea and bread an butter its a good meal, the chips are plenty and nearly beat me , will be going again ,keep up the good work

Sadly Louth is curiously not blessed with a top class fish and chip shop and I’ve tried them all in the last year. Mr Chips was historically popular but the quality declined from the 80s onwards. The latest incarnation is perfectly adequate. The fish and chips are good but not excellent. The surroundings are fine and the service and ambience is very good. I’m happy to eat here but if I want first rate fish and chips I go to Grimsby or Cleethorpes, perhaps Horncastle or Alford.

I ordered 12 meals for our staff meeting. The food was delivered on time and was excellent - all the staff wolfed it down! Great food, excellent value and top staff at Mr Chips! Couldn’t ask for more - well done guys!

Friendly staff, lovely white fish, super hot. 2 x large haddock,chips,peas,coffee & can of pop £19. Clean, pleasant surroundings. Would visit again. Our only gripe would be that the salt wasnt very salty ! Luckily i keep satchets in my bag.

We popped in to Mr Chips on Monday at 5.00pm. There was only a couple of tables being used. I ordered haddock special, and my wife and an elderly friend had small haddock.

Ryan and I went for our tea the other night. We had the regular fish , chips and peas. We really enjoyed it. Every thing was cooked to perfection. I couldn’t fault any of it. I will certainly be going back and would recommend it to anybody. It was good value too.

I recently visited the newly refurbished Mr Chips in Aswell Street in Louth and was pleasantly surprised. Mr Chips always had a good reputation for quality fish and chips and many were saddened when it finally closed its doors. However, it is open again after extensive alterations (some of which are still on going). The quality of the food was good and generous portions too. The staff take your order at your table and and all are friendly and attentive. Certainly worth a visit.

It has been a family tradition to have lunch here, whilst visiting the annual Christmas market. We have missed doing this whilst Mr Chips was closed. We were quickly shown to a table and our orders taken. It was nice to have a waiting-on service, instead of having to queue and order/collect at the counter. The restaurant is looking more contemporary than previously. It's clean and tidy and was dressed for Christmas. Nice touch of crackers too on the tables. Our special of fish & chips, a side, bread & butter plus tea/coffee is excellent value at just over £8. Great tasting food, hot and fresh, served quickly and by attentive staff. Well worth a visit. We haven't tried the takeaway yet, but fish & chips eaten fresh (not going soggy whilst wrapped) are always the best.

I visited today for the first time since Mr Chips reopened. It used to be a favourite place when I was growing up so it was a natural choice to go today when visiting Louth. For a Sunday lunch with a busy Christmas market nearby, I was surprised to get a table so quickly.

Got a takeaway from here a few weeks ago and my fish was raw and fish cakes wasn’t very nice either thought I would give the a try when it opened again seems was a big mistake plenty more better chippys in Louth will not be returning

My first visit since Mr Chips re opened, very efficient waitress service & the food was very good, very thing from your favourite fish and chips to spam fritters all at a very reasonable price.

I went with my wife for lunch we both had haddock special which is with chips aside and a cup of tea. Both thought the fish was very nice but the chips were just aweful they were rock hard and to me tasted like when vac PAC potatoes are left to long. Or maybe had been redunked either way chips were sh#t but fish was lovely

Visited Tuesday lunchtime. I ordered the special jumbo fish & chips & my husband ordered the special fish platter. My fish was hardly jumbo, but was edible. My husbands fish platter scampi & fishcake was ok, but the mini fish was extremely mini! Unfortunately the same can not be said about the chips. They appeared to be warm ups & were not edible. Upon paying I informed the staff member who did not seem interested in my complaint.

Called in today for the pensioners special,was not disappointed.The food was piping hot and was lovely,just enough would recommend Mr Chips.Service, cleanliness, and food were spot on

Used to go here years ago but was sad to hear that it had closed. But now it has reopened and it's lovely. Both my husband and I had Spam fritters and chips. Gorgeous, not greasy. Batter just right. Good value for the money

We had fish and chips on Friday night around 7.30 ish for a takeaway have to say these are the best fish and chips around no need to travel to the seaside these top any I have tasted. They was hot and crispy just perfect. Even the nice touches like cardboard boxes instead of polystyrene, a nice paper bag to bring them home in. over all excellent.

Visited during first week of opening after previous incarnation of Mr Chips closed 3 years previously when owner retired. Place completely revamped,grub great and very good value. Staff lovely and better opening hours now including Sundays...we will return

Been a few times now since Mr Chips re-opened and cannot fault the place. I usually have fish and chips and they are always excellent. We are now going to make it a weekly lunch for "Fish Friday!" :)

Having just paid a visit to Mr Chips after having the customary fish and chips I left feeling slightly deflated ,let me tell you why . As I said I had fish and chips and while the fish was obviously fresh the batter was somewhat on the thin dark side rather than thick crispy and golden brown the chips were warm rather than hot as you would expect ,the menu,s on the table were covered in tomato sauce ,the salt would not shake out of the salt pot as it was damp and neither would any of the salt pots on any other table that we tried , also the table we were sat at had not been cleaned properly as there was still food on it , there were plenty of staff on duty and they were mostly very welcoming ,but I do feel the management should get their act together and explain to the staff attention to detail is essential when working in a reputable business and not just going through the motions
