Great sausage and chips at good price.

This place I imagine is a bit of a tourist chip shop rather than for locals. The big advantage to this chip shop is you can sit in for no additional cost. Service was very friendly. Prices maybe slightly above average but understandable given the location and seating. Ordered 2 chicken fillet burgers but was given a chicken fillet burger and a fish in a bun. The server quickly sorted out the issue very professionally. The chicken fillet was massive although it was fairly bland and greasy. I would not rush back but handy for a seat if you are in Portrush for the day. Overall I would give the place a 3.5 at a push.

Got beef burgers upon them being eating until we noticed that the burgers where half raw needles to say my young boy was sick upon finding the raw meat because he had about 3 bites before noticing and my bother also sick upon taking two bites his was half raw also

What wonderful potatoes, it was so nice. Ask for gravy and curry mix as that is the best thing for taste. The clock on the wall is still on British Summer Time in November but that did not cause any inconvenience as I have a clock on my phone. Thank you and I will be back for more chips.

Went here yesterday. £25.20 for 2 fish suppers, and 2 small bottles of Fanta. We had quite a wait, even though there was only 4 people infront of us, and 2 of them had only ordered chips The chips were ok, except they forgot to put any salt and vinegar on them. The fish however was absolutely disgusting. Completely overcooked, and rubbery. Got to b the worst fish I have ever been served. It went straight in the bin. No way could anyone have eaten it. We will never b back 🤢

Got the takeaway, waited 45 minutes and the fish was overcooked and really difficult to eat. Rubbery fish and burn batter. I thought it would be better while it was busy but probably better to go when it's not busy

Really surprised how bad this place was. It was a really long wait & then it was the wrong food when we opened it at home. Even then we ate it and the quality / flavour was poor. 😐

When i am in portrush i will call in occasionaly really good food well cooked no grease pleasant staff uually in the summer they have a sit in area Everyone needs to try it once you will return.

Just had a fish supper with peas, and could not fault any of it. Good quality, large portion and good value. Only needed one supper between two of us. Cooked when ordered, short wait, so was freshly made. Friendly staff. Would recommend . Hate to see bad/negative reviews, so just posting a positive one👍

Was down working called in for lunch. Out of this world beautiful and portions were massive.

This place is a disgrace the staff are so rude its terrible, had to wait at least almost 2 hours for chips and battered sausages never order from here it’s not worth the WAIT.

Came on a Friday afternoon at the end of September and had just one fish supper. It was everything you would expect and want from a fish and chips takeaway- so for me it was much better than the others who posted negative reviews.

Called in when the delicious smell got the better of me, chips, sausages (which are massive) and a few pasties between us and we where more than pleased.

Very good chips and gravy/curry with just a little bit of a wait

Chips were okay. Nothing more than that though. 20mins waiting,and wasnt waiting in a que. Orderd chips and curry sauce, expecting a medium chips and a pot of curry sauce. Instead I got curry and mashed potato. On what looked like a kids portion all for the value price of 4.50 Restaurant looks like it's run by teenagers who don't care.

Tasted OK. Woman at the counter was OK, not overly nice but not rude either. Price was slightly higher than my local chippy but not all that much higher. The wait time was a long long time for what it was. I probably wouldn't wait again, all I got was chips and it took almost 20 minutes, most other chippies give you it almost instantly as it's such a small order.

We always get a Mr chips when we are in Portrush, always very tasty and good value too. It does take a little while but it's all made fresh so I don't mind so much.

Tasty Hawaiian Burger but Mr Chips charges more than advertised price on menu board. That's illegal!

Was here tonight use to be the best gravy in the country it was dreadful. I got a chip cheese and gravy and it was tasteless. One kids chip and curry was grand bt other kids sausages looked great but tested dreadful

Need to wait around 10 minutes after ordering the food and it’s worthy! Chips are very crispy and delicious, also love the juicy chicken nuggets!

Great food, both my wife and I love it and bonus is so do our children. Far better food than the other not to be named fast food chain not for away.

The best chippy that I know, I truly could not recommended this place enough. Just had the best curry chip of my life. Every chip was covered with sauce, not just sauce on the top, yet each chip remained crisp on the outside and fluffy in the middle. A good range of chip sizes, from fat fluffy ones, to small crispy ones. Just a dash of vinegar, not swimming like most places, and the sauce itself is the best I've had. Lots of flavour, without being too spicy. Truely fantastic.

DO NOT EAT HERE! Awful service, slow and rude staff. Not worth the price for the food, mean spirited people and were rude to every customer walking in.

After a patient wait of 15-20 minute, got two fish suppers. Upon opening to eat, one fish was burnt to a crisp and inedible. Other fish was partially burnt. One fish went straight into a bin. I really don't know how anyone can possibly have the cheek to serve that to anybody in that state? Do the staff know how long to cook fish before it becomes overcooked? Needless to say, I won't be going back here.

Great grub, great service a proper chippy

Visited tonight to get two mini meals. 2 girls working. 1.They were not wearing masks, or gloves, and no sanitiser for customers. 2. The service was barely polite 3. I waited outside in the cold for 2 mini meals for almost 30 minutes. The batter was good. The chips were edible. I won't be going back again

Absolutely shocking service from young Dark haired lady. Was ignorant from the beginning and didn't think I was a genuine customer so was contimplating taking my order. I then asked for red sauce on my burger and received a sarcastic remark. To top it all off received my burger wrapped in tin foil...Once a Good Chippy rapidly going down hill in terms of service and quality of the food.-16/02/20 @8.15PM

One of portrushs best chip shops. The staff are really friendly as well. The menu is not to badly priced. Can be quite busy on a good day at the port.

I visited this chippy on a teatime evening, hoping to have a good fish supper. I ordered and the service was great. The staff were friendly and chatty and helpful. The meal arrived after the drinks so I thought great... perfect. How I was so wrong! You get the food wrapped in paper as you would carrying out and also plastic cutlery. I would see through it if the meal was cheap and this is the reason. It worked out quite expensive. The food certainly was hot, but as soon as I stated to eat the fish, I came upon bone after bone that put me right off. My son actually swallowed a bone and took him a while to try and clear it. In actual fact, the most of it went down the shoot into the bin. A total waste of money. The chips were undercooked, and quite a few hard chips which I couldn't eat. I was so disappointed...I refuse to go back. The place is clean but for the food, definitely not recommended!

With the carry out Chip Shop closed for renovation, I used the sit-in Diner part of this establishment which can also be used for carry out.. The food is excellent, fresh with large portions. The most important part is the cleanliness of the premises. Absolutely spotless. Over several nights we tried the Fish, Pasties, Chips and of course Mushy Peas. All Excellent. The only disappointment was one evening a side order of French Fried Onions was overcooked because the two girls on duty were so busy talking they overlooked their duty. This would not put me off for one bit, as the other food was cooked to perfection. Will certainly return.

The chips were dark brown and tasted like cardboard but even worse was the battered fish. The batter was bright yellow and very thick. I picked the fish out which was watery and tasteless and covered in yellow slime from uncooked batter. It was expensive and overwhelmingly disappointing. Avoid!

Got two hawaian burgers no onions no sauce.i ask every thing on them meat was really greasy chips not great.students workin and havent a clue.more make up on and fake tan and not listenin wont be back the price £12.90 for rubbish.

Als wir auf unserer 4 wöchigen Irland Reise mal so richtig Appetit auf Fish and Chips hatten, wählten wir dieses Lokal und haben uns das Essen mit genommen. Es hat unseren Heißhunger gesättigt und die Portion war schon eher zu groß. Alles in allem hat es uns sehr gut geschmeckt und war genau das richtige für einen Mittagssnack.

I've spent some time in Fish and Chip shops over the years, and when we went to PortRush, we were looking for an authentic, sit in "Fish and Chip at the seaside" experience, Well we certainly got an experience...First: The venue, although did have an outlook of the see, was cheap and plastic. Food was served as a takeout and you had to eat on from the paper, with the plastic folks provided.Secondly: Chips and other food that comes from a fryer are traditionally oily and greasy - This is part of the charm... However Mr Chip somehow managed to suck every but of moisture out of the food to the extent is was practically inedible, not to mention the glupey dry curry!Worst food I have ever eaten, and I'd consider myself fairly well travelled having eaten fish heads with peanut butter soup and Indian vegan train concoctions Also, if the staff smiled and maybe do a Customer service course, that might also help.Regards

Yesterday me and family where at this place and it was AWFUL! It was DISGUSTING! We got served food in bags, the place was smelly, the food was DISGUSTING! It tasted as if the food was cooked down a drain! All of us felt sick after eating the food! The building was FILTHY! Chips everywhere, rubbish everywhere bottles everywhere! I would not go back if you paid me too! Adjectives: DISGUSTING AWFUL DIRTY FILTHY MESSY SMELLY! DONT GO THERE!

Big portions clean the girls were very pleasant but the public have no manners there's a seating area with no extra charge so people just go into it eat there food & leave don't even clean there mess disgusting behaviour but those lovely girls have to👊👊

I enjoyed my baked potato with cheese and coffee they were both good quality and very reasonable at £3.60. Being able to sit in with a sea view was a bonus.

Worst chippy in the world. If I was able to rate this place between 1 and 10,000 I would still struggle to justify scoring it a 1. There are 2 main areas for concern. First there is the staff and the atmosphere of the place. There were 5 young ladies working behind the counter, to say they were miserable is greatly under stating their demeanor. Doing anything seemed to be an almost impossible chore for them all. This gave the place a very uncomfortable and depressing feeling. Secondly there is the "food", if you could call it that. I only ordered chips, big mistake. Imagine this, chips cooked in oil that was not hot enough. So what I got was pale coloured mushy chips on the outside that were raw in the middle. That was bad enough, but they were saturated in oil and the oil smelled and tasted of rotten fish. I tried 1, quickly spat it out and tossed the rest in the nearest bin. I seriously doubt that the oil used has been changed in months. I decided it was better to go hungry rather than risk food poisoning. I would have gone back to complain, but I couldn't stand the thought of going back into that depressing environment. This place is to be avoided unless you enjoy eating rotten fish flavoured oil and food poisoning.

We called in last night for fish and chips. The blonde girl was rude and miserable looking. Granted it was very busy with the open being held in portrush but the rest of the staff were pleasant enough. The fish was over cooked so won’t be rushing back iam afraid

Almost the worst fish 'n' chips I've had. Fish tasted 4 or 5 days old, why you're next to the ocean, then the batter was still wet inside, take away boxes are made for toddlers, threw half of it away & whats up with the confederate flag?

Only had chips and those were fine, but wouldn't rate too highly based on that. The decor in this place is honestly hilarious though. I'm from the states, and to my amazement, I find a giant picture of the confederate flag brazenly displayed in the restaurant. For those unaware, the confederate flag is that of the side that was trying to preserve slavery in the American civil war so... perhaps not the best thing to be hanging in your diner.

The food here is very good. I get something from this place every time that I visit Portrush. The staff are pleasant and the price is reasonable.

OK “chippy.” There are two restaurants with very similar names under the same management, about 30 m from each other. This was the diner, further north than the other, and it is the one that features both takeout and eat in, and uses vegetable oil, whereas the other uses the more traditional lard. When I walked in, a woman was pushing her food back across the counter demanding a refund, claiming that the food was inedible. She prevailed. I ordered takeaway at the counter anyway and I am pleased that I had a different experience. I ordered onion rings, fried battered cod, and well done “chips“(also called French fries), and this served 2 adults, with food left over (portions are large). They do not offer tartar sauce, but do offer a bewildering variety of condiments to purchase. I chose garlic mayonnaise. Ketchup was not listed, but I found that whilst waiting for the food I was able to enter the seating area of the restaurant and fill two little plastic cups with ketchup. The food had an odd smell, a curious detail, because it tasted fine. I did not ask which “vegetable” was the source of the oil, but I hoped it was not cotton. The well done chips were not in fact well done. Other reviewers describe the portions as small, which baffles me. They were rather large (the portions, not the other reviewers). For a restaurant of this type, the menu is extraordinarily diverse. If you are from Glasgow you might not have any trouble understanding the local accent, otherwise, you might.

Chips were lovely but the chicken and fish were severly overcooked

The young blond woman was extremely rude to the point I had to leave with embarrassment. I am absolutely appalled at the service! A woman in front of me asked for a refund because the wait was so long. There seems to be no organisation what so ever. I am Honestly so surprised this business is still running with the staff they have. First & last time I will be here. Food went into the bin after a few bites.

I arrived in Portrush late in the day with little food options available. The food is made to order which is a positive for quality and a negative if you're in a hurry. I thought the Fish & Chips were pretty good. I would probably stick to that since it seems to be there primary dish. The staff could have been more friendly but at the same time it was late in the day and they were mostly kids. The restaurant attempts to replicate an American Southern Diner which was fine but most American visitors would probably appreciate the confederate flag taken down from the wall. I understand too many this represents a culture but too many others it represents racism hate. If it is that divisive than go ahead and take it down.

Went to Portrush for the day and called in this place for something to eat. Food was terrible and service awful, got 2 kids meals that were ok, but the Hawaiian burger was not nice. The bap and meat were stone cold and the lettuce was browning round the edges, bought burger back to be told it can't be cold it was only made. Told them if you serve a burger in a cold bap then it will go cold got money back.

Took a trip to portrush and for lunch thought I’d go for a fish supper as I normally find in seaside towns they are much better than in the city, so called into mr chips were the staff looked beyond miserable fair enough it was busy and I’m sure it has been a very busy few days for them with the nice weather but the 3 women working there actually gave what can only be described as angry stares at the customers like they didn’t want them there, so placed my order and to be honest it didn’t take as long as expected I mean it did take about 20 minutes but it was very busy, got my food and was concerned before I even opened it as I had overheard another customer saying the fish wasn’t fresh it was frozen and pre battered as he had seen the staff putting the frozen fish in the fryer, took the short walk to the beach to enjoy my meal, and was actually horrified when I unwrapped it my fish was closer to a black colour than your normal brown colour you would expect, you clearly see how burnt it was and it was rock hard I couldn’t even bite into it, I have never seen anything like it in my life, the chips weren’t bad but there was only a small handful of them, I did my best to eat parts of the fish as I was so hungry but it really was inedible, place should be disgusted with itself for even serving me this, I would have brought but it’s so busy I just can’t be annoyed. I for one will never be back and I would advise others not to ever go either.

Called in today ( easter monday ) with my family, had to stand for 10 mins to get a table then to be told by another customer that your supposed to order the food before you find a seat , no signs to tell you this! , finally got a table it was stinkin covered in sauce juice and god knows what else , asked the girl for a cloth to clean it as they looked busy , she told us no sumone will be out to clean it , noone did! We moved tables to a sort of cleaner one , our number was called for food 20+ pound and when we looked at it we where shocked kids meals where tiny hardley any chips which where over cooked , eatting my chicken burger i felt slime in my mouth and thought this must be processed chicken it was like jelly! , i spat it out and looked at the burger it was raw in the middle! We called the girl who said oh god let me get sumone she snatched the burger from me and flew out the door with it then another girl came in and said im sorry about that would you like another one we didnt cut far enough into the chicken ( the chicken hadnt been cut into at all! ) i said no love i feel like im guna be sick to which she replied il give you your money back , i thought she meant for the whole order no she gave me the 4 pound odds back for my burger , we left disgusted , 3 hour later and i vomited for 15 mins solid into a carrier bag and have been sick all day we had to go home , our kids easter ruined thanks mr chips! Safe to say we wont be back!

The usual bank holiday visit to Portrush and to the very small, very busy Mr chips. Again service is really really sloooooooooow. It was 30-40 minutes before order was taken as they seem to cook to order as not a lot of space to cook in batches and keep warm. Staff weren't very pleasant, yes under pressure but a smile and a thank you is important in customer service. The card machine wasn't working but this is only made clear once you get to the till, after standing for 40 minutes and are only told when you present your card to pay. There is a tiny written note on an A4 sheet at the till, which is written quite faintly. They should put the sign in the window. At least 2 or 3 people were annoyed as they were only made aware at time of order. 20 minutes after ordering my order wS ready. It was half dished out then staff member disappeared. It was moved from fryer to counter opposite and staff member disappeared again. Salt and vinegar was missing from orders, sauce had spilled from tubs and no napkins or cutlery were given. Chips were nice previously but greasy today and left a thick film on my tongue. Goujons were overdone as sitting under a heat lamp. Big improvements needed.

Hard to beat, delicious proper chips and good gravy.

Stopped in for impromptu fish and chips and enjoyed sitting in and looking out over the sea. Pretty good quality with plenty of chips. If you're sitting in, make sure they realise this and/or you listen out for your number being called.

Great food but the staff cant really give good service due to the small building.

Went out tonight a drive with my girlfriend to the port. The Dolphin was packed so drove around the town and ordered instead in Mr Chips, well never in my life, did i get the worst Cod in history, all batter no fish, and way over cooked..totally disgusted, and why is it that in other chippys you can get good cod ( Bushmills, Ballymoney not to mention Ballycastle), but not here, more into profit than quality as far as i can see. Never again i will set foot in this place..God help Portrush if the Opens coming....:(

Recently went here with my family on Monday.when I entered the only employee was on the phone and picking his nose! ...I did not hear any sound of washing hands before he cooked our food! Totally unhygieneic and I don't understand how on earth they have a 5 rating on the door. No gloves used at all and constantly on the phone handling money and then touching food! Disgraceful.

Was visiting relatives and one recommended this place, I will never believe their recommendation again! We have eaten fish and chips all over the world, but I can honestly say this was the worst EVER. We waited a very long time, even though there was no one else at the take out, at some point the men working there just went out for about 10 minutes so one was checking the fish or the chips. Boy, did it show! After being cooked for about 15 minutes the batter had been so overdone there was NO FISH inside, it had all solidified and the batter was as hard as rock. The chips were burned and inedible. We couldn't even be bothered to go back to complain as we felt so sick after trying to eat some. Will NEVER go near the place again and neither should you!

Called in Sunday evening for some fish and chips. Young fella behind counter was lovely. Very friendly and able to have a conversation with us. Great customer service skills. The fish and chips were very tasty and cooked to perfection. Will be back next time we are in Portrush.

£3.90 for a small portion of chips with cheese. Was recommended the place by someone who used to visit 10 years ago. Chips were average at best, and stupidly overpriced.

Terrible chips, 4 portions for £10.80 chips were rock hard. Maybe they re cook them or something, but Mr Chips is a misleading name if ever there was one. My advice, avoid avoid.

Stoped in for a quick snack of chips and gravy and was very very pleased almost went back down for more, super glad they stay open so late.
