Mr Chilli in Liverpool

It is located in a bar and nightclub area and has many dishes. However, I think the individual items in the all-you-can-eat hot pot are a bit monotonous. The CP value is ok, it is clean and ok, and the service staff are polite. Heavy oil, large portions, one bowl of rice can only serve 2-3 people. It is recommended to order a few dishes for how many people there are.

Received our order which was not pleasant & we would not order a takeaway again Sui mai's were of mashed sausage texture the filling for a well known restaurant unacceptable Spring rolls were full of long sliced onion? I have never had this in spring rolls before Crispy chilli beef very light brown hardly much flavour. All 3 items I have ordered in this restaurant before & was lovely

Really :) loved the food in there. We had a set of food to try as much as we could. I have been always fussy about food but really liked trying these dishes. The floor set in the restaurant is very vibrant, plenty space. You could get a table with hot pot, big table available too. I would definitely recommend to anyone living or visiting the city of Liverpool

What find! A hidden gem A really good Chinese restaurant on the corner of Seel street and Colquitt street very popular with the Chinese community. Great prices and food, will be going again and again An easy recommendation.

I went here while on a weekend in Liverpool with 11 other people. All 12 of us thought that this was one of the nicest and best Chinese meals that we have had! Highly recommend this place if you are from the area or just visiting.

Had special fried rice and Sichuan dumplings for dinner and it was so good! Great quantity and quality. Friendly service and plenty of seating. Thanks so much!

Went to the restaurant at 4:00 pm and ordered noodles and Sichuan bacon. The shaved noodles are great, generous portions, delicious and chewy. Since I don’t like spicy food, I don’t know if their spicy soup is very hot. The waiters are great, attentive and polite. The most important thing is the affordable price.

We had the hot pot session - adult price £25 for 2 hr session but have to have minimum 2 people. the food selection was good, but the time to get the ingredients was quite long, albeit it was Saturday night. They lost our order on one of the rounds.. Staff were friendly but a smile would be nice. The fried bun was very lovely. The cold appeitizers were very nice. Lots of chilis and tons of oil.

I attend regularly for celebratory occasions or on dates. Bargain all-you-can-eat hot pot with delicious fresh and exotic veg, very generous portions of meat and a massive selection. The a la carte menu also looks delicious but I can't help always going for the hot pot.... Staff are also very friendly and helpful, though recommend bringing separate cash for tips. Hands down my favourite restaurant in all of Liverpool!

I have been searching for authentic Chinese food here in Liverpool and have found it. Mr Chili's has got everyone beat. Food is served very hot and tasty food, fantastic service, and such a variety of dishes. The Hot and Sour soup is superb and the Gong Bao chicken is the best.

Authentic Sichuan taste with reasonable price. Their dry fried intestine is the best. I will definitely come back when I’m in Liverpool next time.

Me and my Malaysian Chinese family Been going to tai pan and chung ku for a long time. Decided to try something new for CNY as we heard those two places weren't as good recently particularly after tai pan was shut down for a long time. This place is Superior in flavour and value. Went once on Saturday and got lots of dishes, went again on Sunday for hotpot. Will make this our regular place going forward.

We can't get enough of this place. Absolutely perfect every time we've been here over the last 5 years (and there have been dozens of visits). Great food, freshly prepared.

I was in town so I asked two random older guys where I could find the best chicken and can of coke. However they recommended me to have a nice Chinese meal and suggested mr Chillies. I got a chicken curry. It was superb.

It was empty but the food was lovely, shared a hot pot..for the 1st time and was a good experience 👌🏻

Excellent chinese food, better than the rest of Chinese food in Liverpool. Portion size is generous and price is reasonable. It's not too crazy spicy as well but you can taste the autheticity.

The banquet was great. Good & freshly prepared and served hot. The dishes were varied and plenty of them and the quantity's were very generous. Nice staff and no rush for the table. Prices were very good.

The food was fairly standard for a Chinese in town, had better and worse. The restaurant was not prepared for our group upon arrival, considering it was a booking. The waiter was frankly rude. Ignoring requests several times, very unprofessional. Another didn't really know how to serve to a table without pushing into or leaning over guests. Unable or unwilling to split the bill as we wanted it. Generally, they didn't seem to want to be there or provide services to us. Our party brought the atmosphere so they didn't ruin the night, but returning won't be high on my agenda. Wouldn't recommend.

Food is good but service is poor. They also tried to slip in an extra person for hotpot. Worth it for the food but check your bill.

We got a hot pot and it was honestly one of the tastiest experiences of my life! Such good fun and added points for the bao buns, so delicious!

We got there just as it opened and the restaurant wasn’t ready. We ordered a Char Sui Wonton noodle soup, chicken sweetcorn soup, Sui Mai and Har Gau, Prawn toast The sign of a good restaurant is how fresh everything is and the Char Sui was very poor and not fresh at all, the wontons appeared to be shop bought and not made in house and the noodles where definitely out of a packet and not the fresh egg noodles you get on top Chinese restaurants. The Sui Mai where extremely disappointing and had a very funny taste. No prawn on the top and where definitely bought from a super market. I was very disappointed and dissatisfied with it all to be fair and won’t be coming back. If they want to compete with places like the Mei Mei then they will have to up the quality and learn how to present it better!

My partner and I came here for a late afternoon lunch, as they'd been before, we had the hotpot, which was amazing. You get a cold starter and a choice of different meats and vegetables, but can always order more if your hungry enough. Needless to say we'll be back.

We arrived, they to ask us did we want any drinks. We tried to order two Chinese beers, then they tell us, they can’t sell us any alcoholic drinks. Something to do with the license. Food served on cold plates and bowls. Crispy duck wasn’t crispy. Service was poor, non smiling waiter and waitress. We think the soup was out of a tin.

Other reviews state food is oily but that is standard for sichuan food. The real crime is tgat the food is quite bland, which is a shame as the portions are quite generous so would gave been great value for money if it had more flavour.

Food was really tasty however the experience was let down by the service. We had to ask where our rice was and our meal was near cold when it finally came out. Was tricky to get anyone’s attention when looking to get the bill or pay. I understand that it was a Sunday eve so staff were probably tired out and ready to go home but it wasn’t fair on the customers. Shame cause the food was delicious!

Took a chance on a very busy day in Liverpool. Service excellent staff helpful, nice oriental atmosphere food was fine for most of group but I found mine very salty. Young chow fried rice really nice the meal for two was really good value for money. I would come again but different food this time

Delicious food served by pleasant efficient staff. In times of rising prices we thought we had value for money. Here on a very busy Saturday night we enjoyed the buzz of a very popular restaurant and a range of tasty flavours. Definitely we will be back.

Random choice of restaurant near where we were staying - had a delicious set meal with generous portions - friendly staff, good atmosphere, and would recommend.

Avoid. They clearly forgot about my order when I arrived to pick it up. They spoke over me in Chinese and sighed constant when I asked what was going on as no one would speak to me and there was clearly an issue. They told me they hadn't put the order on yet even though I placed it two hours previous for a selected time as someone had a plane to catch. The ordered was rushed and unfortunately this lead to some very dodgy pink looking chicken. My dad ate some before noticing the color. He has had to leave work early today as he has been throwing up a lot. Mistakes can happen and I get that but its how you handle it, and they handled it very poorly and quite rude. The manager had asked me if I was ok and as I was answering another woman spoke in Chinese explaining the situation and the manager rudely walked away and ignored me during the conversation. Rude Rude Rude.

The staff was rude from going in to going out I wouldn’t recommend this place even for a dog I was very disappointed by the staff very rude avoid I won’t be going there again

We had a wonderful meal at Mr Chilli. The food was incredible, especially the steamed sea bass. They even had a robot waiter!

Ever since we discovered we had a fine Szechuan restaurant in Liverpool, we've returned many times. Takeaway only just now, of course, but as excellent as ever - hot and sour soup, bang bang chicken, hotpot rabbit, lamb with cumin, twice-fried pork, Chengdu duck all as fine as ever. Even writing this sends me back for another treat.

Staff were nice enough "but" the plates came and they were warmish.But by the time the food came, the plates had lost there warmth.The food was not hot enough also. I had chicken fried rice, so I was a bit worried about the chicken and salmonella. Three of us ate and we all had food temperature issues.The decor was nice. Atmosphere was good. Complimentary orange and melon after the meal, so no sweet course required. No problem with the drinks.Prices were middle of the road.Would not go again due to plate and food temperature.Should have complained, but I did not, but I should have done.Also complimentary mints with the bill (nice touch).Went at 7 pm- not too busy.End note: the plates and the food has to be warmer.

A group of 5 of us enjoyed an authentic Chinese meal here last night - ribs spring rolls and steamed prawn/ pork dumplings were delicious - and very reasonable prices. Service was friendly and reasonable efficient - the mains came quite quickly afterwards - very large portions so next time will prob get 2 between 3 - we ordered mostly off the Szechuan menu which had a huge variety of meat, fish and some veggie dishes ( 1,2 or 3 indicate how spicy the food is ) The rabbit and type of mushroom hot pot was full of delicious interesting aromatic flavours - very spicy; the chicken and peanut dish was delicious too - my beef, spring onion and ginger was a little bland. Rice and noodles perfect -we were left to relax at end of meal which was nice- the restaurant itself is authentic and modestly decorated with large red lanterns hanging from ceiling - it was busy but in a good way with couples/ family and friends groups of 4-6- next time we’ll be braver and try prawn/ mussel poss lobster as well as the aubergine dish ( thru had this on another table ) and a diff hot pot too- good price at £25 each including a 2-3 large drinks each

5 of us went for an evening meal. The restaurant was about half full and the service was pretty good, very polite and helpful though some communication stumbles and occasionally they forgot items or people were kept waiting for some dishes. The menu consists of some typically English-style dishes at the front then the Sichuan dishes at the back of the menu. We had a mixture but mains from the Sichuan menu. The starters were good - soup, dumplings, spring rolls. Mains - chicken with peanuts, rabbit stew, beef in ginger. The portions are very generous so you may not need a whole one to yourself! It was very tasty but far too much food and a huge amount of the red chillis on the chicken & rabbit dishes which were really difficult to chew and we ended up leaving most of them. The beef dish was lacking in seasoning. Had we been more adventurous we could have tried gizzard, Duck tongue or frog but not really our thing. Neighbouring tables had seafood including lobster and huge prawns which they looked like they were enjoying. It was £25 each with a mixture of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. I wouldn't rush back, but I don't have a very daring palate! (See 'Julia's friend' for her view on the same experience!)

We went to this resteraunt tonight and was so disopointed .The room was cold to start with.I ordered Chrispy Roast Duck with chinese mushrooms and boiled rice.My wife ordered fried shreded sizzling steak with boiled rice.I have to say this was probably the worst meal we have ever had.Cold and wet.The rice was in one lump and stoddgy.very poor for £38 We will be giving this place a wide berth in future.

If you're here for great service and standard British-Chinese food, you might not like it. Ask for the Sichuan menu, order stuff you've never heard of, it's all fantastic.

Visited last night around 6pm. With it being authentic we saw food being served that we did not recognise from your normal Chinese restaurant. Yes, some of the waitresses struggled a little bit with their English but the waitress who served us was very helpful and polite. We only had soups and dim sum it was enough and very plentiful. Just what we wanted. Would recommend.

Visited lunch time 30/12/2019 arrived at 16:10 and left at just after 19:00 Placed our order and seemed all good, soup was really nice, starters arrived while still eating the plates were cleared away, then he had to wait for duck. Then it seemed that the staff had there lunch were we were left to wait for our mains after waiting 40 mins we reminded them we were still waiting. Desserts I can not comment on as we paid and left before these arrived. The service was awful, they did not seem to care, short staffed, tables were dirty. Such a lovely surrounding but disgusting service worse I have ever experienced. Don't waste your time or money.

Really disappointed with the food here. It was plentiful but unpleasant. My dish didn’t arrive and when it did was clearly hastily cooked and tasteless. Chicken was unpleasant and slimy and rice very stodgy. I’m surprised to see such good reviews. Service was friendly but that’s all I can say.

Myself and my friends were forced to pay £12 each for food. We were paying over £60 for cold food. We then complained and the waiter threatened us with sexist comments and violently. The cashier said “shut up or I’ll hit you” with a stapler. Disgusting. Never ever visit.

This isn't your typical chinese resturant. They deal with Sichuan style cooking which is notorious for being HOT.

This has to be the worst meal we have ever eaten. Ordered chilli chicken. The dish arrived smothered in red chillies which were tough and was like eating plastic. The waitress asked us why we didn’t eat it and when I said about the chillies she sad they were only for decoration and Chinese people like them.

Real Chinese restaurant. Very friendly staff. Service is perfect and clean atmosphere. Foods are great. You should try hot pot at least once and this is really perfect place.

Having been around thirty times, I have to say, it not only delivers the most sensational and incredible array of Chinese delights but just being in there makes the diner feel like they are eating in exactly the right place.

Popped here before comedy club, had the all the you can starter platter, soup was lovley, everything else was just bog standard. Very expensive for what it was, 4 of us went and 3 of us today have very upset stomach. No response from management. Unprofessional

Came here with friends who frequent often so was expecting high standards. They recommended the hot pot, choice of broth followed by choices of meat, fish and vegetables in which to cook the food. From frozen crab sticks to rubbery squid, it was all fairly tasteless undo unappetising. Couldn’t fault the amount of food that was served it’s just that you didn’t really want to eat it! A shame as could have been so good! The staff are lovely though so will probably give it another go but stay away from the hotpot!!!

We were recommended this restaurant and were impressed.The staff were very friendly and helpful as we appeared to be the only english folk eating at the time and needed some guidance.

Walked past here early Saturday evening Liverpool city centre was busy but the restaurant wasn’t and my husband was hungry so we popped in.

With a bucks party of 14 so anything can happen, but the food was great and quickly served, fresh and hot. Plenty of it and we even left some which was amazing. They don't use MSG on request so ideal if you have an intolerance. Good prices as well.

Visited here with my family last Saturday, the appetisers were so good! Freshly made dumplings and spring rolls which went down a treat. A half crispy duck which was moist yet not greasy. I recommend the Szechwan mains, the pork hock has to be my favourite! Big portions and reasonably priced. Will be trying the hot pot next time.

Mi novio y yo frecuentamos este lugar a menudo como un regalo, estábamos muy interesados en probar el Hot Pot chino y nuestra primera experiencia en Mr Chilli ciertamente no me decepcionó. El menú se explica bien y la selección de verduras y carne es absolutamente increíble, puede parecer caro al principio, pero lo que obtiene por su dinero es simplemente excelente, incluyendo una bebida y acompañamientos adicionales en algunas ofertas. El Hot Pot en sí mismo es absolutamente delicioso, ¡hay que probarlo!

9 personas todas con buen apetito se movieron sin reservas el viernes por la noche. Saludos calurosos y mostrados a una mesa. Los menús llegaron puntualmente y las bebidas se tomaron en orden. Puede solicitar el menú chino chino o el menú chino británico. Todos fuimos por todo lo que pueda comer entrantes como pato y tortitas. La comida estaba recién preparada y puesta en una mesa absolutamente preciosa. Todo lo que puedas comer 12. 90 cada uno y puedes comer más de lo que es bueno para ti. Lugar brillante, lindos alrededores y visitaremos nuevamente.

El Sr. Chilli no sirve mala comida, en absoluto. PERO, su servicio de llevar es horrible. La segunda vez que han entendido mal nuestro orden de llevar. La primera vez pedimos fideos y arroz, y solo nos sirvieron arroz, y no el que pedimos. Esta vez fue aún peor. Pedimos arroz especial para llevar y pechuga estofada con fideos especiales. Pues no había arroz. Ambos recipientes tenían rebanadas de fideos, enormes y recocidos, y los que tenían la pechuga, a pesar de tener solo "uno frío" en el menú, no eran comestibles. Y puedo tomar comida picante, pero esto era increíblemente picante. Además, no fue lo que hemos pedido. He estado comiendo allí con un amigo que habla el idioma y siempre nos trataron muy bien. Pero no vale la pena pedir una comida para llevar allí, porque definitivamente no recibirá lo que ha pedido.

I gave up on Chinese restaurants some years ago when they were consumed by the abominable buffet syndrome, but this place looked like the real deal so Mrs P and I made it our lunch time destination. Although there is an "all you care to eat" type offering (brought to the table rather than kept warm in a baine marie for 3-6 weeks) they also have a full a-la-cartre menu, mostly in Chinese, but with helpful pictures and limited English subtitles. Our waiter was not especially helpful or engaging, so we did that "stick a pin in the menu" thing and our resulting dishes were more than acceptable. Mrs P's coriander beef dish was tender and tasty, if a little overwhelmed with thousands of coriander seeds. My dish, some kind of pork hock was absolutely magnificent. Beneath the 3 inch layer of blubber there lurked moist, flavoursome chunks of melt-in-the mouth pork that really made the dish entirely worthwhile. Scrape off the mountain of fried birds eye chillis, get two strong friends to help you lift the layer of fat, and then tuck into the most mouthwatering, succulent, delicious food you will ever encounter. The broth in which the dish sat was absolutely magnificent, and the cabbage in the broth had taken on all the flavour of the meat and the broth. The rice was stick and perfect for mopping up large quantities of the broth. At £48 this was not the cheapest of lunches, but the quality of the food made it excellent value.

I'll start this review with a huge disclaimer. For me, Mr Chilli has consistently given me the best Chinese food that this city had to offer, always really authentic, its made me experiment with new things and experience Chinese food that's certainly a lot different from the standard sweet n sour we get regularly in this country. Countless times I have eaten from here and really enjoyed the food.

Came here tonight and received the worst service I’ve ever experienced. Firstly, we sat at our tables and waited half an hour before we had to ask someone to order drinks. 20 minutes after that the drinks came. We ordered the all you can eat soup/starter menu... well in 2 hours we only received 3 dishes. Another half an hour wait for second round of drinks. Nobody approached our table to ask how the meal was or if we needed anything - we always had to chase down staff to get our order. Empty plates and glasses were left on our table for the whole night. Staff avoided our table in favour of large groups and no apologies were given for the extensive waiting times. The bill was thrown at us without asking for it... then when I told them how unhappy we were with the service and informed them we wouldn’t be paying in full, the waiter said all he can give is 10% off and walked away from me without waiting for my response. I explained how bad the service had been and his response was ‘We have been busy.’ Well, it’s Saturday night - you should plan for being busy. And if you are so busy that you can’t deliver an adequate service to your customers, you should be turning away people away at the door instead of squashing as many tables in as possible. He also said ‘Well everybody has been waiting a long time for their food’ - as if that is a reasonable response? No apologies given whatsoever for what can only be deserved as the most shambolic service in the food industry. AVOID AVOID AVOID spend your hard earned money in places that appreciate it, Mr Chilli’s certainly doesn’t. We will never be back.

The food was amazing! Danny was so patient with us and he gave us amazing advice about the food and everything. He was the best! Thank you Danny we are so going back thanks to you!

It was the first time that we tried hot pot and we had no idea of how it worked at all.

Came here with a friend for my 1st hot pot experience. We got a load of fish/shell fish and some beef. There's a good selection of asian vegetables in the corner of the restaurant which you get yourself.

Really tasty food with lovely staff! Especially one of the local waitors who was so sound! Really enjoyed it, have been twice and would defiantly go again !!

I really enjoyed eating here, the portions were big and tasty. Staff are very friendly and look after you, food is served quite quick as well. This was my first visit but it won't be my last, I loved it! For what you get, it's very well priced. Definitely try and visit here if you're in Liverpool.

Since my last review things have got cheaper by a pound or two per dish which is good news.

This is probably one of the best authentic Chinese meals I have had outside of China. Would highly recommend hot & sour soup, the chicken with pepper, and the green beans with pork.. All really good.

Try booking a restaurant for 20 people at 7.15pm on a Saturday night, two months in advance, then calling the restaurant 24 hours before you're due to arrive with 20 elderly guests for a special birthday party, to ensure the booking is secured. Only to arrive on time and find they don't have space for you because.. they're full of customers! There is a booking for you but no space.. it's in their diary, on their counter. This then leads to them trying to get you to go to their other restaurant 15 minutes away. They do, after some debate decide to pay for taxis to move 20 people to the other location, then, after a further 15 minutes they decide this is not a good option (financially for them) and can accommodate 20 'elderly' people, but at a later time.

Most of the restaurant was packed except Mr Chilli, it was have empty so let's go for it! Waited approx 30min to get served, once we got our drinks after asking twice, waited three quarters of an hour for our meal. The food was actually very good and tasty, again asked for another drink , it came after twice of asking.

The service was pretty shambolic to the point they'd forgotten our booking. Drinks took forever ... too many things to write about. They made up for it with great food but it would put us off going back.
