Staff are rude and not welcoming. Discrimination!!! They don't want to give us the table my kid asked. Left right away. I'm not sure about the food, though, as I didn't taste it.

Too much salt or seasoning in the dishes and it’s not comfortable to eat it . Two of the dishes have the same sauce. £.5 for a take out box if you need to bring food back home.

As complete novices with hotpot, we asked for help. Staff were lovely and helped, making recommendations and support with cooking. The food was gorgeous, and I would recommend whole heartily.

The quality of the pickled fish has plummeted and it has turned into sour and smelly fish. Originally, my friend and I were long-term patrons of "Zhang Ji" and would buy tickets from the restaurant upstairs. However, we didn't expect that because of this "first" complaint, we would be treated badly by the waiter. Never help again.

Food was so good! Especially the crispy pork side dish. The staff were friendly and helpful and the portions are massive for what you pay for it. We shared the braised beef noodles (no soup) and there was more than enough. The beef was so tender and the noodles were bouncy! Exactly what we needed.

Never mind the hotpot spot upstairs, the authentic cantina below ground is the bomb! Been there several times now and never left disappointed. When we go, we tend to try three different dishes to share. Did I mention it's the bomb? Very knowledgeable and friendly ladies. Takeaway option for leftovers available.

Not allowed to transfer money, the boss lady took one look at me and charged the money at an exchange rate of 9.5. The food was just average before, but now it feels even worse. Cash only, which means something for city tax. For Chinese, only accept Wechat, but the CNY/ GBP for 9.5…. The bank only sell GBP for 9.42 CNY. Such ******

Food is satisfying if one is looking for Chinese food in Liverpool. Visited last year and found the food tasty but rather salty. However during our visit this year, pleased that they have toned down the saltiness and maintained the quality. Ohh… and this time round it’s easier for us to order cos they have the menu in English.

... wouldn't go again after visiting the toilet set up... couldn't believe toilets are shared with sexes, opposite kitchen with door propped open with a waste bin... surely this is not acceptable by environmental health ?

My reputation is worthy of my reputation, Master Zhang! The rice is generous and fragrant, absolutely conscience!

What can £10 buy nowadays? 2.5 meal deals? A doner kebab? Some nuts? Here at this humble little restaurant in Liverpool, £10 goes a lot further. I got the spicy lamb noodles on the ground floor and it is hands down the best bowl of food I had in my three years at the UK. While the north levels up, the south should work on improving their food… whatever they serve down south is nothing compared to the heavenly cuisines here in the north.

Have been visiting Mr Zhang's on a regular basis for last three years. There was no where quite like it. Large authentic sechuan menu. Good quality large portions at reasonable prices. Menu changed and went up in price about a year ago and again about six months ago. Service is still excellent but quality of food gone down whilst prices now up about 40%. Used to be full of Chinese students and a few more adventurous English. Last several visits nearly empty. Do not know what management are thinking but can see this place closing down soon. Do not visit

Love it, very good and closest to authentic Chinese food I found so far in Liverpool. And the portions are not small. À la carte in the basement, hot pot on the ground floor. And cash only. There is a cash machine outside (paid) or Tesco just few metres away.

I am so sad as I write this. Not long ago, this restaurant was perhaps the most authentic Chinese restaurant in Liverpool, if not the north of England. It was our favourite place. Food was excellent and portions were generous. We ate there recently and it is like a totally different experience. It has changed its menu and degraded the quality of the food which is now just the same as you might get from any Chinese takeaway (or even worse!), but at twice the cost. We were bitterly disappointed and won't be going back. So sad...

Sadly Mr.Zhangs kitchen is not the same it used to be! I have been going there for over a year or 2 but the dissatisfaction and disappointment i had from my last visit was surprising. I think the customer facing staff in a place makes a lot of difference to your experience and thats why i always went back these last 2 years until my last visit where I found the staff to be not welcoming and borderline rude. Also i couldnt find any of the old staff out of which some used to be my favorite specially the lady with the glasses. She was so kind and welcoming. Anyways The food was very average and it was quite disappointing when i couldnt find my regular order on the menu because they changed the menu it seemed and we werent allowed to customise. The lady taking the order said no to everything (i wish i knew her name but she had short ponytail) and to my surprise we werent given chopsticks while every other table had chopsticks! May be she thought we werent good with chopsticks because we dont look like them! She also had an attitude and a smirk when we asked for chopsticks! Overall the whole experience was bad and dont think im going back there for a long time now till they reshuffle their staff and bring the old ones back!

Hi, I have been to Mr. Zhang's more times then I can count in the past two years. Me and my wife have always loved it there. The food was unmatched and the staff were always so kind and polite, until yesterday. We were not allowed to customise orders which we could do in the past for certain dishes and staff were very closed and did not talk to us and they were also, so loud when cleaning table. They now have changed the menu, but not for the better. You now tick a selection on a white menu of which now I feel the personal touch is totally gone. The staff have all changed and are kind of rude. In particular one lady who just said no to everything we asked. She even just put a knife and fork on our table specifically when all other tables had chopsticks. I couldn't have been more disappointed yesterday when visiting as the relaxed and calm place me and my wife came to know and love has changed so drastically.

I have tried boiled fish several times in the UK, but they all showed signs of overturning😅, but this one ~ delicious! The food is delicious and delicious😍. The next day, I ordered a portion of red oil kidney and preserved egg tofu. The boss was so generous with adding seasonings to make the taste richer and more fragrant. It’s really high-quality and cheap Chinese food~~ The portion is sufficient. ,large. Thanks to the boss for his hard work, allowing our compatriots in foreign countries to eat delicious food at great value

Really awful experience for a restaurant. The attitude of the receptionist was really horrible. I understand that the waitress was in a work-related mood, but the fact that she didn't ask anything, but took it out on the customer and verbally abused the customer was really upsetting. It is not advisable to go to the restaurant alone. NOT WORTH IT. What a very bad dining experience. The attitude of the front desk clerk was terrible. I understand that the waiter has emotions at work, but instead of asking and guiding the customer, he directly vents his emotions on the customer and verbally abuses him. It really makes people feel very bad. It is recommended not to dine alone.

We came after recommendations but found the whole experience quite stressful. We haven’t done hot pot before and the lady serving didn’t speak English so we muddled through it together. Felt she made us over order as it was way too much when it came out and we did try to order less. The food was nice but the whole how to cook it and eat it was not straight forward. And the lady server kept trying to come over to show us which then just became more annoying as we just wanted to eat. I would suggest some cards in English so that customers can understand how to eat and order. This would then make the experience more enjoyable for the customer and server. Also I thought it was expensive - 50 quid for a hot pot for 2 and 2 waters. We had beef slices, spinach, 4 meatballs and noodles. Considering you can get a big bowl of noodle soup for a tenner I felt the price was way too much.

Been eating here for a good year now, takeaway mostly, so it’s definitely a place to try. Love it here ☺️ staff is very friendly and food comes quite fast, even if it’s a full house.

Family of 5 went for lunch today at 14.30. clean and well presented place. Friendly staff and rapid service. There was only 4 covers in so we could choose where to sit. We sat on street level because of the type of food we wanted. Food was piping hot and plenty of it. Doggy bags were needed and kindly given by the staff. Not much choice in beer only serving ice cold Tsingtow. At first I didn't think I needed the beer, how wrong was I. I was so impressed, I ordered my meal again to take home. Good prices for City dining and parking is available at Tesco's a few doors down. £2. My family are all from Mainland China and we highly recommend this place.

Huge portion of noodles sell for £9.5 only, basically 1 bowl of noodles is enough for 2 people. We also had coconut drink which is amazing This restaurant also has 2 level, upstairs is for hotpot and noodles, downstairs is for regular dishes.

Use to visit this restaurant weekly as it use to be our favourite in Liverpool and now I will never return, food is absolutely disgusting and cold.. also served on prison trays.. such a down grade of what it use to be! That’s one way to shut down a restaurant.. 🤷‍♂️

原本以往的水煮魚、酸菜魚、大腸等也很好吃，但現在卻沒有了。Lunch只有三餸飯、炒飯和炒麵。好大碟但不好吃，飯黐在一起，沒有味的，炒麵是炒伊麵，但餸不多，牛肉炒麵的牛肉煮得老，不好吃。三餸飯比較油，只有土豆絲和牛仔骨較好吃。如果繼續只賣這些食物的話，不會再來幫襯了。

以前味道質數幾好，但最近兩次去，好明顯味道差了很多，應該是換了廚師，不值再去。

food was decent. The broth of the beef noodles me and my boyfriend had was really nice and the noodles themselves were a good texture. The beef however was fatty and not flavourful but that’s just my opinion. However, the service was awful as we kept being stared at and felt judged and rushed to leave the place as quick as possible.

Went here for the first time and it was so good. One of the best Chinese restaurants IMO. We have braised pork hock with sauce and morning glory with XO sauce and both were so delicious. The portion was good too and very filling. We paid around £33 for everything including 2 bowls of rice and drinks.

The food is amazing here! It’s one of the best Chinese restaurants I’ve ever been to in the UK. The food is just like how it tasted in Xi’an, China. We love it so much and can’t wait to go back when we next visit Liverpool again. Oh and it’s cash only, they don’t have a card machine.

We’ve tried a few hotpot in the past and being in a new city we was excited to try a new one. But we was disappointed, the atmosphere in the venue wasn’t it for us, we felt judged and watched all through our meal and we didn’t receive some items we ordered until the middle of the meal only because they saw I was checking my receipt. They also didn’t tell us the sauces was an extra £2.50 a person (didn’t both us but wouldn’t been nice to be told) Not all was bad, the food was was lovely but didn’t get any help is telling us what was what.

I have been a few time and always nice. The range of food is fabulous and fresh. The way they present the food is absolutely amazing. We can make the dipping sauces by self. The staffs are very nice and helpful.

Really enjoy going here, food is generally good but I stayed safe on the menu (chicken kungpao), but there is a big menu and most of the client's where from the Liverpool Chinese community and it was crammed so clearly authentic and good quality.

Fabulous sichaun food. Some unusual dishes on the menu but everything I've ordered has been really tasty. The food isn't particularly spicy, as I would expect but I guess you can ask for extra spicy, if that's your bag. The staff are always cleaning up and the restaurant is clean and tidy.

Authentic with big portions. Upstairs serves hotpot and 油泼面 (oil splash noodles) which for some reason has to be ordered separately to any orders downstairs. Highly recommend the 油泼面 which comes in long hand-pulled strands in a thick spicy sauce. The place always seems to be packed with family gatherings and students.

Ordered Aubergine stuffed with Garlic sauce from the vegetable section of the menu, arrived stuffed with Pork. The staff refused to accept any wrongdoing despite the menu making no mention of pork in the dish. We are regulars here and we’re so disappointed. Worse still, the staff were rude and after much discussion only agreed to a 50% discount of the dish. I would strongly encourage people, particularly vegetarians or vegans to avoid this place. Whilst I’m not a vegetarian, the reason we ordered a vegetable dish was to avoid meat.
