With the Rainy weather and it being 4pm in a town that i would not recommend visiting, we found the most wonderful cafe, with all items being baked on site by the owners it was absolutely a delightful treat. They were so kind as we were very late in there working day, the Coffee & hot choc were tasty and smooth, We had the blueberry and lemon cake and 2 chocolate brownies both were fresh and absolute delish. The blueberry cake melted in your mouth. Also had a range of teas and teapots. Very friendly and i would highly recommend the owner told us they were in for a late night of baking as they had had a busy day.

Always visit this charming cafe when we come to Penzance. Have been about 6 times whist on holiday. The food, atmosphere and service have always been fantastic. What a shame it was ruined this year when we visited for lunch. Firstly I am quite aware it was half term so new it would be busy. It was only 1.15 so still early. We found a table and was told food was taking a while but we had no problem with that. We were eventually given a menu and chose from it. After about 15 minutes (which we were happy to wait) we ordered only to be told my husbands choice was sold out. He chose again and that was sold out too. He chose again and 5 minutes later we were told that was sold out too. I wanted to leave but my husband insisted we should stay. He ordered twice more and again sold out. The poor young man taking the order was obviously embarrassed. On the 6th order we decided to leave. We felt terrible and very disappointed 😞. If the lady had said when we sat down almost all hot food was sold out we wouldn't have wasted our time. Feel so sad as love this place.

Visited during half term 2024, really busy every table full, a slight wait on food, but what else would you expect for food made fresh, food was very good so we're the drinks, disheartening to see the behaviour of some people due to the wait time, clearly they had been let down by staff and were doing there best. Everything was well worth the wait and the service was exceptional even very apologetic over wait times. My only criticism and it's a finicky one considering its high season is the food on the main.menu was a little over priced, 13.95 for a crab sandwich plus 2.95 for a side salad, however I do get that the cost of goods has exploded. The service and quality and flavour of the food does make up for it though, my advice is if you want cheap and cheerful don't visit and give the staff grief, if you want quality and great service where the staff are pleased you have visited then this is a must vist. Message to the owners, dint get disheartened by the ignorant who would be better off visiting wetherspoons, you're doing a great job and some of us tourists believe in supporting local business so keep up the great work.

A fantastic cafe, I have had coffee there for a few years but hadn't tried the food yet. Though I always thought it looked amazing coming out of the kitchen. Finally had lunch there the other day and ordered the chicken fajita. This was the best fajita I have ever had. It was cooked to perfection, the combination of fresh, quality ingredients and flavours made it the exceptional fajita that it was! Served with a nice salad, some melted cheese, sour cream and the best guacemole I have ever tried also. The guacemole is one of the tastiest things ever! I can't praise it enough, you could tell that the fajita was put together at a very professional standard. They have a genius in the kitchen. A Penzance gem!! and great chilled vibes :)

Discovered Mr Billy's cafe in Penzance last year. I have been there about 4 times now. Quite a strange looking cafe being such an odd shaped place. Always sat in the front on the tall stools or the soft comfy chairs in the front window. Nice coffee served here and for the last three times had their homemade teacakes. Always have enjoyed them. Visited on the 27th January 2024 once again looking forward to the teacakes. It's wasn't overly busy in the cafe at the time, but the young girl brought our drinks, but mentioned it could be a bit longer for the teacakes. So we waited ...and waited......and waited ...until after around 15 minutes later she came back to say we would have to wait...and ....wait Zzzz.... so we didn't bother gulped out drinks down and left hungry and quite unhappy with our experience. The thing that annoyed me most was the lack of a Sorry.. The first 3 visits were great....but this one wasn't. It kind of put me off going back..but we'll see. No idea what the problem was just toasting two teacakes...really !!!

Waited 25 minutes for a tiny bowl of soup. We went to ask how long it would be - very pleasantly. A woman brought it over eventually and said there are other people who need feeding before you. I couldn't see any as there were only 6 people in there all of whom had food.... very rude. I will not be returning.

Always worth writing a review again as it confirms the constently excellent standards of service and food remain. So many place we have been to, standards have slipped for a variety of reasons. There were so many cafes to chose from in Penzance but this one looked great, it looked quirky and there were plenty of people eating in there so we decided on this place. The lady that initially ‘welcomed’ us wasn’t particularly welcoming! But we took a table anyway because again it looked so lovely. We were then served by a lovely young girl who was incredibly friendly. The food took quite a while to come out so my husband asked how long it would take. So this was back speaking to happy Harry again and she still wasn’t very happy. When the food did come out it was absolutely delicious, the presentation was gorgeous so it was well worth the wait. Happy Harry then came up to see if we’d finished. Again, no smile… nothing. It felt like it was a bit of a chore to be honest. So we decided to leave, we were going to see if we could have some cake or something sweet but when you’re met with such unfriendly demeanour it doesn’t make you want to stay. I paid, I was served but the friendly young girl and we left. But we left feeling a bit hard done by. We like to support a local business rather that a costa for example and we felt like we were just not welcome. She really could do with looking at the younger staff and how they were, because they were great. It was such a shame. We won’t be back.

Our arrival was welcomed with the kind of suspicious looks that were once reserved in the 18th century for out-of-area wreckers visiting a rival patch. Once it was established that we did not want ONLY to use the toilet we were faced with a battery of Covid precautions which make it hard to welcome anyone in any establishment. Once we settled in, initially for tea and cake, we decided to make it an early lunch and that seemed to warm the atmosphere completely. For our part of the deal, the food was extremely good. Croque Madame was excellent, the use of ciabatta a masterstroke. Spanish Stew was very good though it might be a good idea to cook it with the olives - which, instead, are optional - rather than pour them in in immoderate quantity. Eating is much less fun in Covid times because of the whole pantomime but I would recommend anyone to go to Mr Billys for food.

Whilst away, we had a day trip to Penzance. We happened to come across the most amazing little cafe, with the best gluten free options and the most amazing collection of Tiffany lamps There was a huge variety and selection of light bites, sandwiches and meals - the specials board was full of choice too! We had a table that looked right into the kitchen, which I am always fascinated by. The chefs were hard at work, as everything is prepared fresh for that meal! I opted for the goats cheese & beetroot salad; I’m not lying when I say I think it is the best salad I have ever had! It was packed full of flavour, a massive portion and the combinations of the goats cheese, bet root and the peppery dressing were sublime! I also had a side of fries, purely because they have a separate frier for all things gluten free & I couldn’t resist! The staff were extremely knowledgeable about all dishes, pretty much all of them could be adapted to be gluten free and there was a huge choice! We all loved our meals and it was a complete bargain, as we visited as part of the #EatOutToHelpOut - I would have 100% paid full price for the food we received! We felt completely safe by the distancing measures & the COVID precautions! It was the most thorough wipe down of tables and chairs, I have seen. Staff are in visors and there is excellent procedures around the toilet & sanitisation stations too! I would definitely recommend you trying it if you are in the area!

I haven't been to Mr Billys for a good while due to the slow service and unavailable specials at lunch time, which was the case on a couple of visits, although the meals I had here were always good. however I decided to give it another try for lunch, the service hasn't changed much still very slow even though the place was nearly empty. I had the home made burger which arrived as two small burgers which were dry tasteless and overcooked in between a very dry bread roll, served with a small salad which was the best part of the whole meal. It was very disappointing as they have such good reviews and many locals go there all year round, which is normally a good sign. My wife's meal was ok so I have marked the food as average.

We love this place for a nice family lunch when on holiday. It's well hidden at the top of Chapel Street, in Penzance, and it's great for pizza's nice fresh salads and sandwiches, but the Crab soup is the best. We followed the chef from his former restaurant at the Beach in Sennen Cove. It has to be experienced to be believed. Well worth a visit.

I love Mr Billy's, whenever my partner and I have a day off we head to Mr Billy's for some lunch he loves the Spanish stew and I really like the cheese board. It's a lovely café and the staff are always really happy. The selection of teas are really great and we are slowly making our way through the menu!

Wanted to dine at Mackerel Sky but it had just shut down - one of the staff clearing up the place recommended Mr Billy's round the corner and we popped in. Have to say their crab soup was excellent and hearty and the ladies running the place were so friendly, it ended up being a very lovely experience. The place is also rather quaint and old school, sitting by the shop window was nice and they also have sofas/couches to relax deeper in.

We chose the crab soup from the specials board, what a fabulous soup it turned out to be, very flavoursome served with hot bread. What is not to like.

Crab sandwich - Newlyn white crab on brown, side order of olives and large americano with extra shot and cold milk on the side. Table 5, soft chairs. Nice young lady server. Attractively arranged cafe alongside walkway off main street in town centre. Not my first choice for lunch, but chosen because others closed.

The range of tea is amazing. There's a choice of seating: sofas which take some getting out of, especially after cream cakes, or more traditional dining variety. It is often busy.

Read a travel book a while back, about a coastal walker pooing in for a hedgehog ice-cream, made from Cornish clotted cream and was advised to comeback in the morning for their sausages cooked in clotted cream. We tried the ice-cream recently and can't recommend them enough, now need to loose a other stone and possibly a heart bypass..but i will be back! Try to be clever ( out of hours /season or walk down hill) if using carpark, as gets expensive if just going for an ice-cream.

An excellent choice for our lunch with friends. Beautifully appointed and a lovely lounge area on arrival which is ideal for pre-lunch drinks and menu browsing. The menu was excellent and we were able to have some starters as mains and vice versa to accommodate our appetites. The food was fantastic and very good quality. One of our group commented that the mussels were possibly the best he had ever tasted. A good selection of beers, wines and spirits accompanied the menu perfectly and we had a thoroughly enjoyable lunch.
