Very average experience. Staff seemed overwhelmed and stressed, subsequently the service wasn’t great. The food was obviously mass produced and very average. One dish was very salty and the bread was terrible. Overpriced for what it is. We wanted to try it but will not be returning- we will go to a proper curry house next time we want to eat Indian food.

Bland food - lack of flavour; experience was too brief. Someone should have said goodnight at the end. Pricey for what it was.

Tables packed tightly especially tables for two, we may of been sat with the people on the two tables of four, where we were sat in between. Food is presented well and the service was quick. Food however was not great. Chicken thighs with the skin on served not even warm but tepid, put me right off. None of dishes were served hot, certainly off putting, must of been thrown in the microwave and out just as quick. A fifty quid lunch just made me think that I never ever want to go there again. Don’t waste your money on cold food.

We had visited the Oxford one a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it and as it was our anniversary decided to try one a bit closer to us. The food was excellent once again, however one dish got missed and we had to ask for it at the end. The staff we found not particularly friendly or happy, Oxford they chatted to us and asked if food ok and always told us what dish they had put on the table, sadly this wasn't the case here, just dropped on. table then walked off.....and. no napkin love here.....maybe a good idea! We will go back to Oxford again but not here!

We visited here last weekend, never got to eat, because after sitting and waiting for half an hour nobody came to take drinks orders or food orders. So we decided to walkout especially as you are only given a 1.5hr slot for service and food. Very disappointed. I WROTE THE SAME REVIEW LAST WEEK ABOUT OUR VISIT BUT TONIGHT I CANNOT FIND ANY TRACE OF IT ON HERE. Or no longer on my profile so clearly someone has removed it. . . 🤔

I visited this restaurant with my daughter at the beginning of April. She'd heard great things about it. The decor was fab and we were shown to a quiet table. The service was good and the waitress suggested a few options. We love Indian food and just couldn't choose as there were so many lovely things to try. So different from the usual and great street food, beautifully presented and tasty. We both agreed we could happily go back again the next day and eat a completely different menu and still be pleased! Not sure where negative reviews come from .... all the people who were sitting near us had already been before and enjoyed it. Give it a try ... I've recommended it to several people ...

So the location is easy to find, the decor when you walk in is almost like a dream with it's soft fairy lights around the entire restaurant. This is even before you are seated, we were then asked if we would like to sit in their swinging chairs, obviously if you haven't, you should 😊 service was friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed which was lovely. All parties were driving so we had mocktails to start, I would highly recommend trying any of these. So delicious. Three of us ordered a few dishes each so that we could share a variety of the menu. Highly recommend the yoghurt chat bombs. We had sticky chicken, firecracker chicken, ruby wraps along with mutha butter chicken, paneer and another chicken dish, can't quite remember but along with our rotis and rice it was literally like a banquet. Danni was our main waitress lovely manners, attentive to our table and we even had the Junior Soux Kieron deliver some of our food which was a very nice touch. We had one of the deserts which again I can't remember the name but it was like a warm syrup sponge with coconut ice cream. The Mowgli experience was fabulous. All in all highly recommended. Thanks 😊

We were surprised to be able to book a table on the day but were excited nonetheless because we had heard great things. The decor is amazing as you walk through the restaurant but that is where the expectations started to fall. Our table was fine but close to toilets service was ok and food was ok but when I go out I expect an event. We honestly could’ve been in and out in 20-30 minutes. It felt rushed. We were told to order 2/3 dishes per person and we ordered 6 between the 2 of us…..I’m not sure it was enough. I was still a bit hungry at the end. Dessert helped but it was all a bit underwhelming. The tarka Dahl was so watery and quite small in the bottom of the dish. The puffed up bread we had wasn’t great. The lamb and fish curries were lovely though. Would we go back??? Definitely not. Sorry but I love a curry but this was average and way too quick!!

We came here for lunch on the 11th March the surrounding is very well done but contrary to the menu stating that food will come out in stages dependant on cooking time, ours all came out at once 6 dishes the food was teped to say the least, as though it had been prepared before hand and badly warmed up. To say this was a disappointment was an understatement as had been looking fwd to this. Given the glowing reviews my work colleagues had given me who had eaten at the london restaurant. £50 later and a disappointing meal

Saturday, April 6th, 2024: Our daughter made a reservation for us at MOWGLI in Bury St Edmunds. We arrived at the reception desk and confirmed our name. The receptionist lady could not find the reservation; after repeating my surname and spelling it (three times), I was asked if it was Bury St Edmunds MOWGLI that had been booked and if I was sure I should not be next door at COTE Restaurant next door. We stepped outside as there was a queue, and my daughter sent over the reservation. Re-entering the restaurant, another staff member checked my phone, and I had to spell my name out for the fourth time. Eventually, we were shown to a table, no apology, and walking up the stairs, I said to the lady who first searched for our booking, "Found it," with no response, and throughout the evening, she walked around looking very sour. Before I continue, I fully acknowledge that staffing is an issue in the restaurant business. The young lady serving our table asked if we had been to MOWGLI before. My wife had been to Bury St Edmunds a few weeks before. She explained that it was like Tapas (great, I love tapas) and would arrive in stages, which is fantastic. We ordered drinks, and it was clear there was a lack of staff; the staff there were working at a high pace, and the manager was dashing around. ** Some staff wear MOWGLI T-shirts, and the sour lady and the manager, I believe, wear casual clothes. I appreciate that this is the modern way, but it looks so shabby. I know the concept is street food, but please consider this: it could be better. Our order, which was to arrive in stages, came all at once, which was fine. However, the table needed to be bigger; given that we had six items, we needed more space—a very uncomfortable dining experience. Ruby Wrap—Very nice flavour, possibly my favorite. It's a little heavy on tamarind sauce but very nice. Lamb Chops were very flavorsome, with the right amount of spice, and the vegetables served with the dish were a tasty accompaniment. Mother Butter - I enjoyed this dish's lovely flavor, good combination, and light spices. House Chicken - Wishy-washy dish, inferior. I don't know how this got onto the menu. The rice was very uninspiring and needed some pomegranate jewels, maybe, and the Roti was acceptable. While having dinner, the restaurant had an undercurrent of disharmony. Staffing was the issue, and when ordering food and the dinner being served, you would have expected the server to return to check and allow for another drink order. This did not happen, and lost revenue for MOWGLI. We asked our server for the bill as she left another table, and she said, "Yeah," in fairness, when she did return, she asked about our dinner, and I pointed out that the House Chicken was not the best and she deleted it from the final bill. Staffing and training are the main issues here, so I only partially hold the staff accountable; two staff members handled the reservation terribly. I appreciate that technology can be unreliable, but at least an apology. I accept this is street food, but I don't get the concept mixed up; I am the customer. If I were to buy a dish from a street vendor, I would get better service and a smile at a minimum. The food was nice, but there was no "wow" factor, and when you deliver a new(ish) concept, there needs to be a "wow." I have no urge to rush back, and the service, food, and presentation of the two Indian restaurants I use are better than MOWGLI. I will be surprised if the chain is still in business in five years; I think you will step away once you have dined at MOWGLI twice, nice concept but limited appeal.

The whole concept is Indian street tapas, very similar to 'Dishoom' (a London restaurant, which is phenomenal) Service and staff were pretty good. The decor is really nice. The two people tables probably aren't big enough for the concept of ordering multiple dishes and you are constantly trying to shuffle around everything. There was no check back, which would have been a good opportunity to offload some of the empty pots/dishes and declutter the tables. The food seemed reasonably/ high priced. The house lamb was lovely, gunpowder chicken (I think it was) also very nice. I'm not a fan of automatically adding a charity donation onto the bill, it's sly. If a big company wants to donate out of its profits please do, I don't like putting it on the customer. The correct/ polite way would be to have a 'would you like to donate, yes, no' option on the card reader at the end. It may be small amount, but it's just rude. Glad we visited, probably won't be back in a hurry.

Having tried Mowgli in Leeds I was so looking forward to visiting this new Mowgli having opened an hour away . The food was just as good as before but the service really let it down . Our drinks order was taken followed by our food order but then we never got spoken to again . After finishing our food we waited for about 1/2 hour for someone to clear the table and we then asked for 2 more drinks, after waiting a further 30 minutes no drinks had arrived so we decided to get the bill and go elsewhere for drinks. No desserts were offered either. They did take a discount off our bill. Really need to work on the customer service side as I definitely won’t be making the hours drive to here again.

Awful service. Wish I’d read tripadvisor before taking my wife for her birthday. The restaurant decor is lovely and as others have said the food arrived quickly but was on the lukewarm side. Tasted ok: no issues there really but as a Dishoom fan there is really no comparison and Dishoom wins hands down. And now for service: no check back on food, completely ignored after it was delivered almost like we were not there. The staff were focusing on seating more guests rather than attending those already in! Waited 20 mins for plates to be cleared: longer than it took us to eat the dishes. When the young lady was asked to wipe the table post mains we were incredulous as she took a blue cloth and wiped it onto the floor by our feet! And then furnished us with the dessert menu by flinging it into the table. As others have mentioned this is a training issue and probably one of supervision too. The food is ok, but the attitude is unacceptable and the 10% service charge is laughable in context. We won’t be returning sorry Mowgli: nice brand, poor execution.

Firstly the food was fantastic, we all enjoyed different dishes and it was all tasty, hot and beautifully presented. Cannot fault this at all. The service wasn't the best. The restaurant was busy with very few visible staff. It took 20 minutes for our drinks to arrive, very straight forward order. At no point were we offered any more but had to ask. It took some time to clear our table of mains. We were asked if we'd like to see the dessert menu of which we said yes. 15 minutes later they hadn't arrived so we had to ask for these again. Service charge was added to the bill, given the lack of service I think this was a little unfair. It's a shame the food was let down by the service provided which seems to be echoed with other reviews and hopefully something management are working on to make this a great place to visit as it should be.

This was our second visit to the new restaurant in Bury St Edmunds. Although we understand the dishes are intended to be small plates, most of the curries were similar in taste, with lots of sauce and very few pieces of meat/paneer. The food comes out quickly but most dishes were cold, other than the lamb chops however the meat was overcooked and dry. The service was the real downfall. The service at the table was let down by: - an impersonal waitress - having to call back the waitress when she didn't return to take our order - the waitress throwing the plates down on the table and not even setting them (we did this) - when the food arrived, we conferred with each other whether that was everything and a different waitress snapped back "that is everything" and walked off. - no response when we asked to take off the service charge (red flag! - it must happen a lot) - no ice in the wine cooler (nor was it refrigerated) so asked for ice for our drinks - no check back or attempt to check whether we were satisfied with the food and the service ***SERVICE 0 STARS*** We left feeling like we had inconvenienced the restaurant and that the price tag did not match the experience. Such a shame as we love the idea of Indian small plates and they need to very quickly invest in training their staff or looking at their recruitment. In a side note, we visited Everyman in their first week, another chain. They ensured the smooth opening of their new chain by bringing in supervisory staff from another successful site in London. This quality assurance of customer service was recognisable in every aspect of our visit. Mowgli could certainly do with something similar.

Hadn't been before had a fantastic meal very tasty all different levels of spice and flavor, however we did say that we hadn't been before and asked the waitess for advice and to tell us if we had ordered too much food, she wasn't helpful could have said start of with this then you can always order more but didn't so we over ordered and the fact that we could not eat it all and they stuck a £1 charity charge on the bill was a contradiction as there are people starving and they are throwing out our food, we were not offered a doggy bag so shame on you the charity tip was an oxymoron and an insult. Hasnt put us off and we would go back and start small and work our way up as we learnt the hard way shame the first experience was not as informative as it could have been due to staff lack of communication.

At last - an excellent Indian restaurant in Suffolk! Food was great and tasted really fresh. Although the portions look small, the food was surprisingly filling so no-one came away hungry. Good choices for non meat eaters. Would recommend the paneer and Bel Puhri but...

Having visited Mowgli in Liverpool many times in the past, really excited that we have one locally. Food was, as usual great, but service complete car crash. One of the distinctive aspects of Mowgli, certainly in Liverpool, was the young and enthusiastic staff, all smiling...

A bit disappointing to be honest. Excellent service and decor but the food was not the greatest. Had really hoped it would be great. Maybe we chose badly

Absolutely sensational food. Some of the best i've experienced in Bury. The gunpowder chicken was divine and the himalayan cheese toast was mouth wateringly beautiful. We were served by the most fantastic waitress Yaz, thank you very much for being accomodating and wonderful.

Wow, really good. I don't usually like Indian food but... This is totally different from most spice restaurants I've been in. The décor is delightful. The service great and the food amazing. Definitely a place for return visits.

Disappointed, didn’t live up to expectations. Service understandably not polished - early days. But little attempt to explain the menu or enthusiasm for the concept. Very expensive for what’s it is.

Lovely staff and a pretty building. A new restaurant to Bury so we decided to give it a try. Although there are other restaurants in this group of n various cities, none of our London based kids had ever tried it. We were attracted by the fact that it welcomes dogs, so ideal for a spot of lunch after walking round the Abbey Gardens and the Cathedral: all genuinely dog friendly. Our dogs were made welcome but not fussed over, which is ideal for them. The Streetfood was authentic and delightful. There is plenty of choice in the menu, so we decided on the tiffin boxes as mains: that may have been our downfall, having selected one meat and one veggie, as we do enjoy vegetarian Indian food. The chef selects the dishes for the tiffin so we ended up with 3 portions of lentil or chickpea based curries, plus a very odd potato and tomato dish which my husband described as bitter. The chicken and lamb curries were good. There was a distinct lack of green vegetables, which I find odd in a Indian vegetarian selection. Food was ok, and I would come back for the Chaat and some drinks. Hopefully the mains will become a bit more inspiring: a touch more like Dishoom or Kricket maybe. I understand that this is meant to be what Indian families eat at home, but the ones we have eaten with certainly would have found the tiffin selection a touch dull. It did remind me of the university guest house in Bangalore. The staff are trying very hard, and hopefully in time the kitchen will be able to up its game.

Booked a table for Mowgli on their opening day as heard great things about this restaurant chain. First impression was good, loved the decor which was bright and sparkly compared to the old Bill's restaurant that was there. Very happy attentive staff and given that Mowgli is a different concept to the usual Indian restaurant, needed the waitress to explain how it works. Best way to describe it as Indian tapas but all I know is the 8 different dishes that hubby and me ordered were all absolutely delicious. The portions were excellent as well and even though we both have 'healthy' appetites both said 3 each would have sufficed. Needless to say Mowgli is now on our list of favourite restaurants in Bury and we have already arranged to visit again in the New Year with friends.

Just stunning… the food, decor, atmosphere, service… everything was spot on! From the minute we walked in we were warmly welcomed and had the menu explained to us. We were a party of 3 and chose a selection of dishes (including gluten free which was perfectly explained on the menu). Dishes we had never heard of alongside well known favourites, but either way it all was perfectly presented and tasted amazing. The decor is lovely and the music created a really good vibe. All in all I would highly recommend this restaurant and I’m really pleased it’s landed in Bury, will definitely be returning!

It was opening night so only time will tell if this is the 'real deal', HOWEVER......... A real buzz about the place when we entered with a genuine warm welcome from the front of house. The food was excellent and is served up as advised by our waiter on 'small plates'. We shared 6 x dishes consisting of lamb chops, chicken thighs, cheese on toast, chat bombs (amazing!) and could not fault a single dish. Fragrant, fresh & perfectly presented. All very reasonably priced with our bill coming to just shy of £70 including drinks and optional 10% surcharge which was well deserved by our faultless and friendly waiter. Great experience, looking forward to our next visit.
