Mother Hubbard's Famous Fish and Chips - Hemel Hempstead in Dacorum

Just had fish and chips not happy food was dripping in oil with loads of oil at the bottom of the box and chips not cooked long enough put straight in the bin will not order from you again as this is only the second time ordering and both times not impressed

It is a very nice fish and chip shop. Food was very good and portions were a very god size, The service we got from Sharon was excellent she made sure we had everything we need and was very friendly and polite. The eating area was very clean. Would highly recommend.

Was inquisitive to try Mother Hubbard as the first shop was launched on the year of my birth 1972 - arrived yesterday for lunch with my BFF Megan - we ordered the meal deal of haddock; chips; drink and a side of our choice for just under £11 - (I chose curry sauce Megan chose peas) - waited inside whilst we watched our fish being freshly cooked - (decided to eat inside) - sat down and proceeded to sprinkle salt & vinegar over my fish & chips - dipped my chip in the best curry sauce I have ever tried - cut open the thick; freshly cooked Haddock - well - unbelievably fresh; tender; tasty & crispy - 10 out of 10 - can’t wait to return - yummy; yum yum. xx

Doesn't seem.to be any enthusiasm here. I asked how big the large chips were and I was told the chips are all the same size. OK, doesn't really answer my question, so I asked how big were the chips and I was shown a box. is it enough for 1,2 3.people etc Anyway, ordered the food a returned home. I found the steak Pie dry and the pastry very hard as if it had been cooked gourd ago. The box I wad shown wasn't even fully, and again the chips were a bit hard. I'm pretty disappointed as I was expecting good things from this chippy. I'd rather make to effort and go to the boxmoor chippy, Portion size and food is much fresher

The battered fish was cold with soggy mushy batter and covered in grease. Had to throw away in the bin. The box container was fat saturated inside. Never use this place again.

Grilled fish and salad was superb. Maybe a little more salad variety would be good but the fish was lush. Fish and chips was also very good according to my hubby 🙂

Mother Hubbarda. Normally great fish and chips but this time all I can say is No Comment. Just as well I had the 40% discount and the 5 star discount.

Fish was terrible. I went for the mother of all fish. Was full of batter and a small fish was hidden In all that batter. Chips were average but not bad

The fish and chips were one of the best I've had and the beat part being a Halal fish and chips location. Toilet facilities available. Ample car park around the area, quite and a cosy palace.

Fish and chips were lovely as expected. Very large onion rings and sausage in batter were very greasy I’m not sure we would order them again. Curry sauce was delicious. 😊

Batter on fish was over cooked and the chips were awful seemed as if left over from day before. When I fist ordered they were lovely but not any more, really disappointed

2nd time I have ordered, was delivered earlier then the estimated time. I was missing the chips from my pie and chips order, but after a quick phone call all was resolved. Delicious food and good customer service. Highly recommend.

Great service, friendly cashier, food is amazing - great portion sizes at very affordable prices. Everything tastes so authentic and made with love, proper northern style stuff, not the overly processed stuff we're used to down south. Sausage and chips for £4.75, absolute steal when most places the chips alone nowadays are getting close to £4. Feeding a family for under £20 made easy. Definitely going to be going back.

Sick to death of getting given runny curry sauce - I even put an emphasis on it each and every time. This last time she even said to check before leaving the store but I told her I trusted them. HA what a silly boy I am. 5 times in a row - just check what your serving.

the batter wasn't good. It looked, smelt and tasted like it had been fried in old oil

When I go into a restaurant I expect my food to be served on a plate, and have metal knives and forks.and if I have a can of drink I expect to have a glass. You don't get that service in this restaurant. The meals came in a cardboard box and with very small cheap wooden knives and forks and no glass was available. I'd been in hospital at London Bridge all day and I was very hungry, so I ate the food. The food was not very hot, so normally I would send it back I will not waist my time at this place again.

very expensive!!!! for greasy (not massive) jumbo pollock!!! chips were just ok. I think if you're selling a cheep fish for big bucks you need to be more consistent with the quality im disappointed, too expensive to try again 🤷‍♂️

I’ve visited this restaurant/ takeaway around 9 times. On each occasion the food has been excellent. The servings are large. The batter is light and airy, unlikely to upset your stomach as with heavy batter. I continue to be pleasantly impressed.

It’s expensive for a chippy, but the food was delicious. Although the curry sauce was a bit too mild.

Not great. Called and although the staff was nice and they gave a free sauce and battered sausage, the timing was disappointing as we requested a time and it was 35 minutes late.

The food was ok. Nothing special. The spiced fish was as seasoned as a dry wizards sleeve. The chips, while hot, were almost wet and dripping in sin. I ordered two kids meals but the associated drinks didn’t accompany the delivery, which left a bitter taste in my already horrified mouth. The meal was average and I’m assuming Mother Hubbard is on holiday? She’s going to be furious on her return. I’m sure she would have sent out far better than what I received today. In future I’ll order from Wicks or B&Q. I hope you all have a pleasant evening. Thanks again for making me question why I bothered ordering take away from a company run by someone who lives in a cupboard.

The only place I go to now for my fish and chips. I have never had a bad portion, it's always been very nice. They are generous with their portion sizes too.

had a notification to say its being delivered but after 20 mins had to ring the restaurant as nothing had turned up, they said they didnt know what happened, i do now as checked cctv and they tried to deliver to a house opposite us food was its usual good standard shame about the delivery
