Morton's Fish & Chip Shop in Moyle

Disappointing. I have eaten out of Morton’s for years and was looking forward to my first visit since Covid began. I was expecting the usual large piece of fish with plenty of chips and the option of the Jumbo Cod which I usually went for. Unfortunately there was no Jumbo Cod option and the portion of fish I received was small, not that great and overpriced. What a shame.

Be prepared for a wait cos everything is cooked to order & there will likely be people in a queue in front of you. A 20min wait for takeaway isnt unusual. Good sized portions.

Have been going here for a few years now and had always really enjoyed the quality of the food,it was worth paying a little extra.But lately it has dipped,called on Easter Monday and got 2 fish and chips not impressed.

This is one of the best chip shops in the country and the fish is absolutely amazing, fresh and perfectly well cooked. Friendly staff. I cant wait to go back after this lockdown. Theyre not closed or anything but we like sitting in the dining area in the summer. If you havent tried this place then you're missing out.

Our phoned order was taken courteously. It was ready on time and the contactless payment taken efficiently. The freshly prepared fish and chips were excellent, as usual. The only thing I would suggest is a transition from polystyrene containers to cardboard and from plastic bags to paper.

Heard the food was good, so passing through from afar today and wanted to sample the fish n chips. Went to go to hatch waited a second and then was told by a local by stander to call round to the door. As I walked in I was screamed at by a staff member ‘ you can’t come in here’ and I mean embarrassing yelling. I was shocked and embarrassed and just walked away. Got my fish n chips else where. Horrified to think staff would speak to customers in this way.

Called today for a fish and chip. Arrived at 1.10pm, was told I wouldn't be served until 2.00pm. Really!!! This is way too slow for takeaway. There were 6 people waiting for their order that had already been placed. Disappointed as I know the food is so good.

Arrived in Ballycastle and needed somewhere handy to eat near where we were staying. We used Trip Advisor to scope out the local area and this came highly recommended.We ordered cod and chips and it was fabulous freshly caught off the boat that day. They also do other typical chippie food such as burgers, chicken fillet burgers, scampi, pasties, sausages etc.Very tasty and good value I would advise you to try this tasty gem right opposite north street in the way into town on the coastal route.

Ordered a battered cod,battered sausage,pastie and curry sauce came on a timely fashion. Sat at summer seats beside ferry. Fish had a extremely golden light crispy batter, as did battered sausage and pastie would melt in mouth. The cod was like a fillet steak. Will be back. Great day trip for good food

on a busy weekend the wait is around 30 minutes. But it is well worth it. You can take your carryout and eat it across the way in their seated area or go outside and contend with the pigeons!

This has to be the best place ever for fish n chips , a must to visit when in Ballycastle, you will have to queue as it is very busy, especially at the weekend.

Best chippy in the country. Never a bad meal. Would highly recommend the large chicken fillet burger. Others in our party had the fish again lovely. Great portions and great value. Always busy which tells u something! Lovely to sit in the covered area but due to COVID it’s takeaway only.

Absolutely recommend Morton’s fish and chips was delicious never in a long time have I tasted nicer fish had lovely thin crispy batter cod was just yum chips was dry and staff done a wonderful job I new when we walked up to it it was good the queue was long but well worth waiting for my order. X

I totally understand the situation with Covid 19 but I had to try nearly 20 times to put a phone order in. The chips looked and tasted like they were frozen and not fresh and the fish was over battered and greasy. We were so disappointed as having been here last year and it being absolutely delicious it was like a different chip shop . Hoping the usual standards will return but I wouldn't be going out of my way again while out on a day trip.

Called on a really wet Friday night on way to caravan. Had a Fish box & extra chip between us. Mega!

I have know about Mortons for Years. But never get out enough. Some of the finest Fish and Chips along the North Coast. A real local Gem.

I stumbled upon Morton’s for lunch and a taste of home and I wasn’t disappointed. They have deals going so I had two sausages and chips. They have seating across the road for you to sit and enjoy in the warmth. MakeSure you add the garlic dip!

I must admit I have had food before which has been very good, but this time I was not impressed, both chips and fish was very tastless, left half of it

I have eaten here twice , there is a good choice, everything is made to order and you can eat in a nicely decorated, covered area beside the chippy, our fish was huge, crispy and the chips were dead-on. Simple food done well, I think the secret is to eat them immediately, so they don’t go soggy in the wrapping, yum yum!

Ballycastle is a lovely shore town and right in the heart of the city is this Fish & Chips takeaway location called Morton’s. The staff are locals who are warm and friendly, who do not mind chatting it up with you while you wait for you food. They also have an enclosed outside seating area with plenty of tables and seats for you to enjoy your meal. Highly recommended.

It must be at least 12 years since I had a meal from here, and I must say, the quality is equally as good as always, I would rate the food as one of the finest. Simply delicious.

From the outside, it looked like any other fish and chip shop but the efficient service, friendly staff and probably the best and freshest fish I've ever had from any chip shop around the country makes this place stand out!

Last visit was in February and decided to give this chippy another visit 2day and ordered a gluten free fish supper. Fish was fresh with a nice crispy batter with a large portion of chips to complement. Couldn't ask for better (keep up the good work mortons)

So I have heard about this place for years and everyone seems to freak out over how good it is. I finally tried it and I have to say - it was some of the best fried cod I have ever had in my life. The portions are generous and everything is made to order...I ordered two pieces of cod and chips...the rest of the menu is a host of other deep fried delights...the fish was out of this world, the chips were perfectly fine....they have indoor seating, but it is a separate building...I just took the food back to the house i was renting...there were a few people in line, but nothing too bad and the service was good. Certainly one of the best deep fried experiences i have ever had in my life. You have to order sauces (tarter etc) a la carte though...I forgot to

WE had heard about Mortons from friends who told us that when you visit Ballycastle you have to try this place for your Fish n Chips. As we were in the area we decided to call in & try their food & we weren't disappointed. We decided to go for the Jumbo Cod supper between us as we had a dinner reservation later & it was the right choice as the Fish was massive with really nice batter & lovely chips. It's a small chippie but they do have a small area beside the shop with tables to sit at with your purchases. I would definitely recommend a visit to Mortons if you happen to be in Ballycastle.

Best fish and chips in Ballycastle and fresh in fro the sea daily. Nice restaurant beside the take away. Be prepared to wait at peek seasons and weekends and it is very extremely busy but worth the wait.

We stayed a night in Ballycastle. Came across this busy little shop thought we give it a try. We got young cod fillets. Absolutely Devine. Loved it so much we came in again next day.

We had fish chips and scampi- brilliant ,one of the best I have ever tasted. The cafe is obviously very popular as they were many people waiting but the wait was worth it!

We stopped after coming off the Rathlin ferry having read about Morton's here. Friendly service, well priced and excellent fish and chips, and definitely try the crab cake and chowder.

Always busy, which shows it's popular. They do a great selection of fish, and other chippie foods, with things like scampi that you don't see in many other chippies. All lovely and fresh. Have it on good authority that the gluten free batter is good too, and lovely to see they do it.

We had a lovely takeaway from this institution whose reputation is well deserved. Well worth a visit, not fancy but the very best of ingredients well cooked and served with a smile.

My wife and I went here on Monday evening 2nd September 2019 as it was recommended. My wife went to order whilst I went to seating area across way. First thing I noted were 2 small dogs - should this be allowed I thought? Dogs were quiet and well behaved until 2 more came in and all hell broke loose. Yapped and barked - took a minute or too to get settled. Wife arrived with order which was OK but nothing out of ordinary. Batter on fish dry crisp and tasty chips. No more barking from dogs but a distinct smell - not in an eating area thank you very much. My wife told me there was a sign to say all pets welcome - I hadn't seen. Wish we had this Fish and Chip Shop nears us in England .We only have Fish and Chips when we are on Holiday in Ballycastle .

You can’t come to the seaside and not have fish and chips and there’s no better place in Ballycastle to give it ago than Morton’s down at the marina. They do HUGH batter fish and so much more and become very busy during the holiday season when you could que for quite some time (last time I waited for approximately 20 minutes) but it’s well managed.

One of my favourite chip shops!! Would highly recommend, worth the wait and travel. The new outside seating area is a great idea and it isnt always sunny in ballycastle and it saves getting soaked or eating in the car.

Last visit was 8 years ago and the Fish and Chips is still superb. I had American family with me and they enjoyed the whole experience. Since I was last there a sitting area has been added which was great on a rather wet and windy day. I will no doubt be back on my next t visit for the north of Ireland.

A must have treat while you're in Ballycastle, whether there to sight see, go fishing, or visit Rathlin Island. They use their own catch and hands down it's the best fish and chips you can get. If you're in the town call in and you won't be disappointed.

Had fish and chips here while staying in town. Waited 20 mins for the pleasure... It was.. ok? By the size of the queue and the wait I did expect great things. It was nice but meh? I think the queues may be due to the location on the strand rather than the quality of the food. It was fine though. I'd probably eat here again if in town.

Staying in Ballycastle for a few days we decided our last evening had to be Morton’s fish and chips eaten on the harbour side.

Had fish chips crab cake, chips dry fish over cooked. Eat in covered area opposite the best thing was the wooden seat.

Placed right next to the harbour and rathlin island ferry. Was looking forward to eating here and it did not disappoint. The fish and chips were superb and tasted delicious. £5 for the food and a can of fanta so very good value.

I was at this place a few years ago and always looked forward to coming back sometime.

We wanted to try this as there were great reviews and long queues- always good signs. We both had the cod and chips and were very surprised that the cod wasn’t very special and we had very few chips. We were quite disappointed but perhaps it was just an off day

I just had the nicest food in Mortons unfortunately it was spoiled by 2 dogs in the outside eating space. I do not know how hygenic it is to have dogs where people are eating. This is now a problem everywhete you go.

10 of us arrived on a Friday evening and the fish and chips we got was second to none It is a carryout but they have a room across from the shop with tables and chairs to sit and enjoy

Lovely food. Generous portions. One portion of Cod Chunks (fresh fish) with Chips was enough for two of us (five lovely chunks each) and the assistant divided it into two separate boxes for us which was very helpful too. Good system with efficient and pleasant staff. The adjacent seating area with tables was spacious and clean and very convenient, on a wet day, to eat our food in comfortable surroundings. I'd definitely return.

Always busy which I cant understand why as both chips and fish where soaked in oil. Chips soft soggy and top of leader board for worst we have had.

No other establishment comes close,to the fish supper served here. Best on Ireland, by an absolute mile. Nothing else needs to be said!

Very disappointed with a very poor take away meal from Morton’s.Having visited last year and had a really tasty, albeit expensive takeaway on a family day out, we were hopeful of repeating a return visit.However, the chips were greasy, fish well over cooked to the point of the batter being actually hard and gravy was like tar with lumps.Not worth a penny of the £25 we paid for 4 chips (2kids) with sausages and a fish. The over flow area we ate in last year was unkept and littered with food remnants all over the floor and table tops this year.Perhaps the business was under new management or management don’t care this year.Sorry but we won’t be back.We love Ballycastle and will go somewhere else next time -love Marine Court and Harry’s further down the coast but still plenty of choice in Ballycastle.

Enjoyed our fish and chips in the seated area. The range on the menu is good. The meals are cooked fresh. Fish was good and the battered sausages. The curry sauce was very good. A sweet unique flavour. Good for fast food and hungry teenagers.

I used to regularly drive the 40 miles from my home to Ballycastle along the north coast of Northern Ireland for a fish and chip lunch or supper. The cod was always cooked to perfection, being moist and flaky with the batter a perfect accompaniment. However, my last two visits were so disappointing. The previous one 4 months ago wasn't great, but I put it down to a bad day or change of cooking oil or something. However, we visited again yesterday afternoon and had the usual jumbo cod and chips, regular cod and chips, a portion of onion rings and a portion of baked beans. The chips were poor to the point that my wife asked if they were re-heated. Spookily enough, a friend took his mum there last week and he thought that the chips were not freshly made then. The cod however, was a massive disappointment with them being totally overcooked to the point that the fish itself was dry and stodgy and the batter overly crispy and dry. I used to rave about the quality of Mortons fish and chips, saying that it was the best chip shop in Northern Ireland, but no more. It's a shame, but they are always packed with people queueing out the door to order. And to be fair, they are not cheap, with the above order coming to a few pence short of £20. I won't be making those long drives for fish and chips again. There are nearer options that are now far better.

È un discreto e molto frequentato fish&chips; da asporto nel porticciolo di Ballycastle; hanno anche una specie di gazebo coperto dove sedersi a mangiare. Il pesce è freschissimo, il fritto un po’ troppi oleoso ma saporito e la zuppa è deliziosa! Molto economico, soprattutto considerate le porzioni giganti.

Tried Morton’s yesterday because of the reviews and we were pretty disappointed!

Visited Morton’s while touring beautiful Giants Causeway and Ballycastle. We had 55 in our party (day-after-wedding). Angela helped us arrange all the menu orders ahead of time and even reserved the indoor tables for us. Food was great, so fresh and huge portions. All of our guests had a wonderful time! Such a friendly community atmosphere at Morton’s right on the fishing piers next to the boats. And Thank you to all of Morton’s regulars who may have been a bit surprised by our large group. We heard no griping and we really appreciate the Irish hospitality!

Good fish and chips, and onion rings, a little pricey but good quality and a good menu, all freshly cooked.

We had to queue up for half an hour to just order & pay & get a ticket for our turn , it was all freshly cooked & we had another half hour wait for it but every minute worth the wait ! Absolutely delicious ... they had run out of jumbo cod but cod fish supper soo good & the side order of onion rings! We will visit again before we leave !

Was told by a few people to call in and try this fish and chip shop , ordered lunch for 1 adult and 3 kids £21.00, Expensive for average food , nothing out of this world , maybe my expectations were to high , overall a very poor experience, staff were not overly friendly and food was ok , won’t be back in a hurry !

While no doubt Mortons is a great fish and chip shop and they do a roaring trade. We visited there at the weekend.We purchased kids meals and a pastie for the grandfather, I asked for a couple of chips to compliment the pastie,as every other chipshop would do free of charge, I was taken back by the refusal of the youngman serving me.

Morton's fish and chip shop as to be the best fish and chip shop in Northern Ireland. I've been here several times over the last 5 years and am impressed by the quality. All food is cooked on request to perfection. The addition of the sitting area is useful during wet weather. The only concern i see is that particular area of Ballycastle it can be difficult to find a parking space (especially in the summer months)

stopped here for late lunch after visiting Rathlin island. great fish and chips. perfectly cooked, perhaps best we had during our 18 day visit to Ireland; large portion sizes; reasonable prices. Highly recommend

decided to get lunch here based on the raving reviews on here and friends of friends. And it was disappointing. Bog standard fish and chips, nothing special at all!

Before leaving Canada to come to Northern Ireland I watched several TV shows and researched places I wanted to go, on a couple of occasions Morton’s Fish and Chips came up. I can see why. The value and taste were well worth it. The food was great and I would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting.

Takeaway with friendly helpful staff - and a big room with tables and chairs next door to sit down and eat your food. Fish and chips very hot and tasty.

I am gluten free so trying to find a quick lunch spot is quite hard, especially when I’m traveling. But Morton’s was extremely accommodating and made me fish and chips that were gluten free! And they were delicious! Fresh cod with tarter sauce and chips. It was the perfect lunch for my husband and I and he enjoyed the non-gluten free fish and chips as well. We both recommend this place!

Not as good as recommended. The fish best part, the chips were average at best. They closed early even on a Saturday.

This was a lovely family lunch with a wide variety of locally caught fish dishes and very child friendly with exceptional service from very helpful staff.

We got told to try this place. And then saw it had good reviews on here so tried it. We all had normal fish and chips etc but 1 of the party had a jumbo fish and chips. It was so big it was funny. So 10/10 for portion size. The food was quite good quality as well. So all in all its a good place to have dinner. We sat in the cabin thing they have next door which is pleasant enough.

Their fish n chips was good AF. Their beer battered fish was longer than 12 inches and cheap. I highly recommend this place if you are a big fan of beer battered fish.

Had a great fish and chip meal here, huge portions. Separate seating area across from the shop with picnic type tables and bins for rubbish.

Can thoroughly recommend Morton’s as an excellent seafood venue. They also have a separate venue for sit down takeaway as well. The food is both excellent and varied. The harbour side venue is superb. Finish off with a superb ice cream from nearby Mauds.

Oh dear what a letdown. Been to Morton’s many many times in the past but the last two visits where a big disappointment for a chippy with such a good reputation.

We had lunch yesterday and feel it was the best fish of ‘fish and chips’ that we have ever had. Cooked to perfection: the fish tender and tasty and the batter light. Liked the the separate room for eating too. Clean and spacious. Keep doing what you are doing.

Previously visited with family from England a few years ago. It was a nice day and they loved the big portions and the settling. It made a wonderful day out for them, so i said must come back anytime I’m in the area. I’m gluten free, and it’s wonderful they cater for it but I visited twice over last number of months and sad to say I think it’s not as good for some reason. Felt disappointed both times.

Very fresh, big choice, convenient organised, because you can order it and wait in the room designated as a eating room in separate building. So it is take a way with place where you can it as well.
