I recently visited the Morton's Bar & Grill at the Hatfield Hotel for a meal with my family (2 adults, 2 children). We booked in advance and asked for a high chair for my toddler which was all nicely set up when we arrived. Often when we request this at the time of booking at other venues there's a rush amongst the staff to get one over to us that's clean and not in use, so that was a nice change.Knowing that we have 2 children due to being previously advised during booking it would have been nice to have the childrens menus on the table and not have to wait and ask for them. Once we had the menus I was quite annoyed that our waitress had to go and ask what the soup of the day was. We certainly weren't the first table in of the evening so it would have been more professional if she greeted us with the soup of the day and childrens menus upon arrival without having to ask and wait around. While we were waiting for the waitress with the soup info I was able to look around and enjoy the lovely seafront location. It was a clear evening allowing us an excellent view of the boats passing by. The tables are arranged nicely so that everyone is able to enjoy a good view and the general restaurant was well decorated to a reasonable standard. The doors open out to the seafront where there is additional outdoor seating. I can imagine this being really pleasant on a summers day/evening. The only thing I found off putting was the strong smell of smoke coming into the main restaurant every time someone came in or out of the doors. For a non smoker it wasn't pleasant when you're trying to enjoy a meal. When we ordered the meals, they kindly asked if we'd like the childrens meals to be sent out with our starters as anyone with children will know it just saves a lot of hassle! It didn't take long for the starters/childrens meals to arrive. I wasn't very happy that the waitress put my 2 year old's burning hot plate of food directly in front of him even after advising us it was very hot! I've been to a lot of restaurants and they always put the hot food to the side out of the child's reach, so this for me was very unprofessional and a big no-no! We had to grab the plate and move it immediately out of the way as 2 year olds grab things, that's what they do! I ordered the soup which was supposed to be Tomato & pepper? It was actually more like tomato puree, very thick with a watery gloop, looked perfect for any pizza topping. It was also very salty. They served it up on a wooden board in an old fashioned pot which looked really rustic and traditional with a bread baguette and butter to the side. The bread was fine, it was a real shame about the soup. My Husband ordered whitebait which he said was delicious. It arrived in a little basket and the presentation overall was of a good standard. The childrens meals looked cheap and cheerful. My Daughter ordered the macaroni cheese which looked microwaved and my Son had chicken bites with mini waffles. It was actually one big potato waffle and the chicken looked really overcooked, dry and far too crispy. He took one bite out of the chicken, spat it out and didn't go back for more. I had to feed him again once we got home. The main dishes - I ordered the Belly of Pork with garlic mash & seasonal vegetables. The pork was fatty and the skin which is usually nice and crispy was solid. Myself & my Husband tried it and it took a lot of effort to break it without breaking our teeth. The mash was average and probably the best part of the meal. The veg was OK, not soggy or overcooked but looked frozen and warmed up.My Husband ordered the Classic Combo and he really enjoyed the tandoori chicken. He asked for his steak to be 'medium' and he said it was cooked to his liking. He enjoys a mixed dish so this was perfect for him. He did try my meal and the childrens dishes and agreed that they were substandard at best. I think he was the only one who came out of the restaurant happy with his choices. The drinks were so-so, my Husband ordered a Bitter shandy which was flat as anything. I ordered wine as you can't usually go wrong with bottled stuff so I felt pretty safe. We also ordered an Apple & Mango J20 and my Son had his own beaker of juice from home. The bill came to £76 which for a family of 4, each having 2 courses isn't bad if the food is good. I felt disappointed overall. I've allowed one circle for the beach front location and the other for the interior decor as it was quite inviting. The staff need to seriously train up properly and be taught that you don't put burning hot food in front of young children in a highchair and secondly figure out what they're serving each evening instead of having to go and ask someone like we'd just dropped in uninvited. I wouldn't come back here for a meal whether it was with my family or just as a couple with my Husband. I'm glad of the experience though as my friend was looking at the Hatfield for a wedding venue so I think my feedback may help with her decision!

Having a short break from my stressful job at Kessingland Beach Holiday park, and this lovely pub is just round the corner and within walking distance. Wow, atmosphere is lovely, very welcoming and genuine local pub, we left our dog in the caravan, but found they let dogs in the pub. Big seating area outside, that would be lovely to sit in, in summer as it overlooks the sea. Hubby had the cheeseburger which came with coleslaw, crinkle chips and onion rings, he said it was lovely, with a proper butchers burger, I had fish and chips with garden peas, or shall I say Moby Dick, it was that big.... Beautifully cooked meal, really enjoyable, thank you, it was lovely.

As a stranger to the area, checked the website that shows the shop was open. It wasn't so went to the other shop at the other side of town, where the food was excellent ,the staff friendly and very busy, good luck to them. They deserve it.

Eat here regularly. Always lovely, freshly prepared food. Good choice and specials available as well. Reasonable pub prices about £12-19 per meal) snacks and light menu also available. Plus there is a loyalty programme...bonus!
