Just came back from an over night stay for my husband's birthday and as usual we were not disappointed. The staff were very friendly and efficient even though they were busy. The food, in my opinion, was as delightful as always, it looked good and tasted perfect. Staff are well informed regarding the dishes and explain them with a smile . Already booked to go back.

Very pleasant surroundings and greeting on arrival. Service in bar average and at table also. On several occasions we had to seek service and ask for wine to be poured. Canapes in Cocktail bar were well presented but other than Tartare limited in flavour. These was no Cocktail menu and when we tried to communicate with the Bar tender she did not offer any suggestions either. Our Champagne was not chilled sufficiently. Without describing every course I would in summary say the flavours presentation and content if several were underwhelming. The Risotto being an exception. Our second bottle Of wine was poured I to the same Glasses as first with no offer to taste. It was borderline . The banana ice cream was almost room temperature and our meal had taken so long we had to take away chocolate selection and forego Coffee or After dinner drink. It took 15 mins to get our account and when it arrived we felt sad we were leaving having had such high expectations. At almost £200 per head it was a quiet rather than ebullient journey home. We chose Puilly Fuisse

Went to celebrate a big birthday. Amazing from start to finish, starting with canapés and cocktails in the sunny gardens served and explained by Galton. Every course was a delight and the wine pairing was wonderful and beautifully detailed. The staff were very professional but also very personable. The house and gardens added to the experience to make it a most memorable evening.

This was a most amazing & delicious afternoon tea. Moreston Hall is a beautiful place, the gardens are stunning & beautifully maintained. You are welcomed & made to feel special as soon as you arrive. We were shown to our table in the conservatory & having driven 2hr 40 mins from London were very hungry. We had to wait around 30 minutes before any food was brought out though we did have water, tea & a lovely cold glass of champagne. When the food did arrive it was absolutely delicious & beautifully presented. Every mouthful was a delight. The only reason I can’t give a 5/5 is because it was probably the hottest day of the year & it was uncomfortably hot in the conservatory.. yes they had the doors leading out into the garden along with some windows but this just wasn’t enough on such a hot day. Our Delice cakes were melting (as were we!) By the end I felt so hot I couldn’t wait to leave.. I know it spoils the aesthetics of a room - building but the conservatory definitely needed a couple of portable air conditioner units or some good fans. Ona cooler day this would have been a 5/5 experience. Aside from the sweltering heat it’s a stunning place & I would definitely return but perhaps in the autumn or spring as on such a hot day it ruined it a bit.

Can safely say one of the best meals of my life! I have eaten in a few places with stars in my years but Morston Hall has it spot on. The menu celebrated food in such a way I've never seen. The John Dory we had was melt in your mouth. Have never had fish like it and to turn the humble beetroot into something I would eat every day of my life is very special! The service was wonderful. From the second you walk through the door you know you are somewhere special, with every member of staff have time to chat and tell you anything you wanted to know. Not only that our canapés were delivered by the main man Galton himself. A wonderful surprise and seemed to give every table plenty if time. I am lucky to live locally so can visit agian, if you are not plan your next hoilday around it!

An absolutely unforgettably delicious gourmet birthday experience which kicked off with champagne in the sunny herb garden. The place has a wonderful feeling of calm sophistication. Dinner kicks off with theatrical cocktails and canapés served by Galton Blackiston himself, followed by seven courses of culinary perfection enhanced by an imaginative (and fascinating) wine flight. We couldn’t fault the food or the impeccable service - attentive but discrete, polite but relaxed. Really fabulous. We plan to return soon.

We have just come back from a 2 night stay at Morston Hall. We had a great time from the minute we arrived to the moment we left. We stayed in Poppy, which was spacious and very comfortable. Dinner on both nights was a lovely experience. Some people have complained about waiting around, but we really enjoyed getting to the lounge area early, relaxing and enjoying some pre drinks before the dinner service started. The food was great, and the execution of the cooking was top drawer. The breakfast was another enjoyable experience, and the full English was cooked to perfection, but I would advise anyone who likes them, to have the smoked kipper (smoked on the premises) as it was probably the best one I have ever had. The smoked haddock also looked just as good. What made the stay truly memorable was the hosting during the whole of our stay. We were made to feel very welcome, cared for and at ease by all the staff at Morston Hall. They have the knack of making you feel part of the family whilst also delivering the type of expert service you expect from this level of establishment. We enjoyed it so much that we booked a return visit to stay whist checking out. We can't wait to return.

Wow what a fantastic evening. We couldn't fault a single thing, the food was divine - every course was exceptional. The service was also faultless. I'm pregnant and there is quite a few things that they adapted for me on the menu, such as under cooked meats and unpasteurised cheeses. They even brought out my own butter! Not only that but Galton personally checked with me if each course was suitable and if I was happy, I couldn't have felt anymore special and taken care of. What a truly unique experience. Can't wait to visit again when I can enjoy the wine pairings and the cheese trolley properly!

I visited during the busy month of December and thoroughly enjoyed my taster menu experience. I usually prefer savoury foods, but the desserts were exceptional - like miniature works of art, although every course was delicious and thoughtfully prepared. I'm not used to Michelin experiences, so I anticipated feeling slightly uncomfortable, but the restaurant had a lovely relaxed atmosphere and the staff were very friendly and attentive. I would return because I've heard their roast is fantastic!

The setting for the restaurant is incredible. A large hall that has a feeling of grandeur from the moment you walk in, that said it feels very homely. The subdued lighting adds to the atmosphere and helps you to relax and unwind. The staff are attentive and courteous and they give you plenty of time to settle in and choose what you would like to eat and drink from the menu. We opted for the taster menu to give us a spread of tastes throughout the dishes, and also to try something new, something we would not normally have ordered straight from the menu. Each course was accompanied by a wine selected to go with each dish. The wine was superb and obviously had been well thought through. The taster menu consists of 7 courses. Each one was a pleasure to the taste buds, which coming from a non foodie, is something I did not think I would ever say! I had never been to a Michelin star restaurant before but I will return. This visit changed my view of what good food really is, it was incredible. Mr Blackiston even came to the table to ensure we had been looked after and everything was OK with our food and service. A one word review...INCREDIBLE

Great food. No doubt about it. Start to finish top notch 1* Michelin fare. Great amuse to perfect choc soufflé (best soufflé I ever had). Ok maybe I would have preferred the petit fours not to be white chocolate- but that’s about the only food complaint I can manage. I’ve been to some fancier places this year, but this dinner I really liked. Just the right amount of care and attention. Everything on the plate had its purpose and did it perfectly. Of course, I’m a sucker for truffle butter and freshly baked bread, too. The place is generally attractive and well spaced. Given the food, I was happy - and would certainly go again. However, one or two minor other quibbles Slightly weirdly, the early dining slot means you sit for a hour or more with drinks and amuse waiting for the other dinners to arrive, then everyone is served in sync. We were hungry by the time we moved to eat - and could also have used our early evening otherwise. The staff were friendly and engaging but perhaps too casual (banter should be with customers not each other), too many spills, incorrect bill. Ladies toilets had no way to dry hands. Our table was under the fire exit light so had that weird fluorescent sheen - easily addressed with additional lighting.

We were very fortunate to be able to get a table here on a Monday night at fairly short notice, as you would expect with a Michelin starred restaurant it’s heavily oversubscribed. The service from the welcome to the bill was pretty faultless. A mix of formality and informality. The food was exquisitely prepared and the tasting menu delivered the quality we had hoped for. The only downside was that there were no real surprises, the skills and the flavours before us were high quality but there wasn’t much in the way of risk. Perhaps we were expecting too much! The wine flight was explained with real knowledge and was an exceptional accompaniment to the meal. Atmosphere in the restaurant was lacking a bit. It’s difficult for venues when they have to space tables out more than they may have done before social distancing measures but it does mean that they struggle to break the formal feel where everyone has to speak in hushed tones. Minor criticisms, I know. It seems a tad unfair given how high quality everything is but when you pay this sort of price, you do expect as close to perfection as you can get!

Amazing food ! All the courses from canapés to desserts were beautifully presented and so tasty. Just a couple of disappointing factors, we were served some delicious crusty beer and treacle bread which made a lot of mess on table, being a Michelin star we would expect this to be cleaned but we had to ask and the waiter just brushed off with his hand, we asked for an extra chocolate and very reluctantly we were told we could only choose one! We also asked to purchase two extra glasses of one of the wines from pairing but was told this was not possible . Kieron was excellent and certainly knew his wines and was friendly unlike the waiters that brought the food but overall a lovely experience just let down by a few minor points for a Michelin star restaurant.

I visited here with my husband for their evening Taster Menu. Neither of us have been before. There is plenty of parking and we had no trouble getting a space. The whole dining room eats at the same time so you could attend from 18:45 for drinks and canapes at your table and food began at 19:30.The tables were well spaced out which was great for COVID and also enabled you to have conversations with your table without having to shout and yet also keep it intimate. When we asked for some water for the table, it was much appreciated that we were offered "tap, still or sparkling". We always just order tap water and don't like when people offer just still or sparkling. The food itself was delicious. This isn't the first Michelin we have eaten at but my favourite (so far). The food isn't pretentious and the flavours are 'normal'. You won't get snail porridge or something that looks like a fried egg but actually tastes like lavender ice-cream here. What you are served tastes of what it is meant to taste of. The menu had a variety of fish and meats and every course was delicious. I think my favourite savoury dish was either the chicken wing (how do you get so much flavour from a bland little piece of meat?) or the monkfish. My least favourite was the suckling pig, but this was solely down to my least favourite meat being pork. Just bad luck on my part and there was certainly nothing wrong with that dish itself. The sweet dishes were both amazing. The milk ice-cream was, I think, the best ice-cream I have ever eaten. And I've eaten a lot. The lemon tart was perfect and the Italian meringue was absolutely out of this world. My husband had a gin with liquorice to start and he said this was delicious. He also had the wine pairing and enjoyed all of these in different ways. He wasn't keen on the dessert wine on first sip as it was very sweet, but when he drank it with the lemon tart, it complimented the tart perfectly. The service was predominantly from very young staff but there were no issues as far as we could tell. They were all very polite and when asked about dishes, knew the answer each time. Galton did a walk around which my husband was especially happy with. The toilets were small (only two cubicles) and I didn't think they were as clean as they could have been. Nice toiletries though. The ONLY thing I could criticise is we would have preferred a bit more consistency in the service. For instance, the bread was delicious. Absolutely superb. The table next to us finished theirs at about the same time as us and were offered more. We finished just afterwards and were looking forward to being offered more too as we would have liked it throughout the meal to mop up the sauces (I'm Northern!) and to accompany the cheese course. But we weren't offered it and felt too awkward to ask ourselves. And again, at the end of the meal the same table near us ordered a coffee. My husband ordered the exact same coffee they did yet despite theirs being served in a 'normal' sized cup, my husbands was served in an almost espresso cup. We were visiting as I had surprised my husband for a special birthday of his. This was meant to be last April and because of COVID it was cancelled twice. I had explained it was a special birthday on booking and it was mentioned again whilst we were there but no 'extras' were offered to me on booking to make the evening even more special and the staff never mentioned it whilst we were there. But another table got a treat brought out and sang Happy Birthday. So I felt a bit awkward as I think my husband thought he was going to get the same and didn't.Nothing major though, we'd just like a bit more consistency between all diners. After all, we are all paying the same.Literally the only other thing that made me a bit uncomfortable was the COVID situation. The staff were all superb and all wore masks throughout service. We wore masks when first entering and kept them on until we sat down. We then put them back on when standing up from the table to use the bathroom. However, I only saw two other people wear a mask to go to the bathroom and a lot didn't wear them to leave at the end either. We had been seated in the first room so saw everyone arrive, leave and go to the bathroom. And it was honestly quite appalling how few people wore masks. Some even had them around their necks but didn't bother pulling them up. It is awful when the staff were so conscientious at protecting customers yet customers cannot be bothered to do the same back to the staff. We were the youngest there by a good stretch and to see so many elderly people not care about each other or staff that were working so hard is very sad. This isn't the establishments fault though and realistically, even if they had challenged these selfish individuals, they don't have to legally comply anyway so why should the staff risk getting abused? The tables themselves were really well spaced though and every other COVID policy they had in place was perfect. We both had the taster menu, my husband had a gin and a bourbon, one wine flight and one cheese course. The bill came to around £320. We will definitely return to Morston Hall. We would like to try the Sunday Lunch next, I think, and will return for the Taster Menu at a later date too. I cannot fault the food at all. The way the kitchen managed to get those flavours from 'normal' foods was outstanding and every course was delicious. We didn't leave hungry and were pleasantly full. Thank you Morston Hall and Galton. We had an amazing evening and wouldn't change a thing about our meal.

We had a reservation in April which was cancelled due to lockdown, and rebooking became impossible as rooms get snapped up instantly. We finally managed to go for 3 nights to celebrate my OH birthday and had a wonderful experience. This time we stayed in the Sandringham room. What’s not to like?Service in the restaurant was impeccable, the dining room was airy and welcoming, every dish on the tasting menu was faultless paired with delicious wine.Galton was there in the evening and breakfast speaking to each diner which was a lovely personal touch - and it really added to the experience. We will definitely be coming here when we next visit Norfolk Broads.

An excellent dining experience which sets a high standard of extremely tasteful food and good wines all perfectly served in very spacious pleasant country house. Each dish was a careful balanced combination of flavours which stunned the taste buds. Excellent value for a high quality dining experience. Came here for afternoon tea and then the tasting menu, whilst on holiday in wells next the sea. It was fabulous .the afternoon tea in the conservatory on a sunny day was just perfect, setting, food, service all wonderful. Returned a couple of days later for the tasting menu, which we loved. We were in the next room to the best conservatory, but the food and service was excellent. We highly recommend you try this wonderful restaurant.

Being born in Norfolk and living in London. I finally got to go to the famous Morston Hall, having cycled and driven past it many times! Expectations were high due to the great reputation it has and we were not disappointed. They suggest to arrive around 6.45, which we did and we were able to have a glass of champagne in the garden before the service started at 7pm with canapés. This is a taster menu, and we also opted for the wine flight which is an additional £70 but worth it. The food was fabulous, highlights were the Wagu beef (from Suffolk, but we’ll overlook that) and the Celeriac and Kings Lynn shrimp veloute. The cheese board trolley was also a lovely touch. The staff were lovely, helpful and knowledgable. Only fault would be the atmosphere is a little stiff, could maybe do with some light music or someone on a piano. Food and service however are impeccable. Recommend for a treat.

This was our first Michelin Star dining experience to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We had the seven-course taster menu - we had to book months in advance to get a weekend booking which is always a promising sign! We were impressed that the chef took the time to personally meet every table, and also saw that several of the guests were regulars who'd struck up lovely relationships with the staff. The food was incredible, each mouthful an absolute treat with textures and flavours to die for. We were really impressed by the professionalism, knowledge and warmth of the staff who created such a wonderful atmosphere in the dining room. We would 100% dine here again and would love to return for our next special occasion. Thank you for the perfect ending to our anniversary weekend away!

We visited twice, once for afternoon tea and once for the tasting menu.Firstly, the food is fantastic. I've had so many mediocre afternoon teas (especially in beautiful settings where establishments rest on their laurels), but this was wonderful. The gooseberry choux is the best choux pastry I've ever eaten, better than any I've had in France. The manjari chocolate confection also exceeded all expectations. Overall, couldn't fault the afternoon tea. The jam is the best I've had, way better than any you'll get in Fortnums and I ended up buying 5 jars. Service was equally good, we had a perfect time and really appreciated how well looked after we were. Kindly, the gentleman looking after us also found us space for the tasting menu! The tasting menu was fabulous, it's so well done from the canapes (exceptional) to the sourdough and raw butter (never thought I'd get so excited about bread and butter, but it was amazing). The subsequent 7 course tasting menu was similarly lovely - the crab and shrimp crumpets, brill and puddings were particular favourites! The chocolates were also a pleasant surprise, as good as you'll get at a dedicated chocolatier (I'd say they were on par with Rococo). I also really appreciated that they accommodated me with the wine flight (I couldn't manage the full flight, so they let me have half a flight). Overall it was a great experience. The only niggle I had, was that the lady sommelier spent a lot more time describing the wine to the older gentleman at the table next to ours; she skimmed over these with me and just told me the names. Nonetheless, a great experience and I'd happily go back. As a tip: book in advance and ask for a table by the window I'd they're available.

I really enjoyed our visit here, we stayed 2 nights which means 2 tasting meals. My husband hadn’t realised it was only that! Plus he’d booked and it was World Cup football night on day 2 so please excuse our early departure from the table! The meals were delicious, the 2nd day was quite different to the first and more to my taste.. They catered really well for dietary requirements and we met the chef.Breakfast was lovely as well, there’s a lot of variety and the portion sizes are sensible so you can have a couple of things like some fruit and then eggs on toast. It would be nice to go back in non covid times as I expect there would be more interaction and a friendly atmosphere rather than functional as places have to be at the moment. The hotel is near the coast so we went on seal boat trip and did some walks before moving up the coast to Holkam… another review on the way!

The food, service, wine and value for money here are all incredible. It is a warm, welcoming environment in which everyone is served the same 7 course menu, creating a lively ambience. We dined 2 nights, once cooked for by Galton, Chef Patron, and once by Greg, Head Chef. Both meals were divine. Fish comprised the majority of courses on both evenings and the meals were sublime (one slight letdown on a Brill and leek dish which was average rather than brill) but the general standard was almost faultless. Service was attentive and friendly and totally unpretentious.A glorious standard well deserving of its Michelin star and that has adapted well to COVID restrictions; always felt safe and secure and meal finished in an unhurried way before 10pm. Highly recommend the wine flight and this place in general. Worth a massive detour to take in its loveliness. I have done a separate review of the hotel, which is equally glowing!

It was very hard to get a table here. It’s that exclusive! Around the area there are some lovely places to eat, but this is of course head and shoulders above the rest considering it has a Michelin star. The staff were very accommodating to let me and my wife and child arrive, we were very thankful for the service that they provided and of course accommodating the fact that we have a two month old baby with us.As expected, there is an air of grace and an ambience of sophistication that surrounds this establishment. The grounds are beautiful, the service is friendly, respectful and professional. As you get your table he were greeted with the most decorative display of cutlery and china. What followed was a seven course tasting menu, you are greeted by the head chef before your courses of even start, which is a lovely touch and you do not see in establishments in central London as example. You can tell he is proud and is open to discussion about his background, and the menu, which makes the occasion even more special. The food I must say it was absolutely delicious. Everything was cooked absolutely perfectly. You can tell that all of the food was sourced with care and love, but I was a bit disappointed that there wasn’t more locally sourced menu additions, with a lot of the produce coming from Dorset and Scotland as example. Part of me did want some locally reared pig as example. However the scallop with beef shin was delicious, as was the duck with beetroot and five spice sauce, but the highlight was the pistachio and chocolate soufflé which is a combination that I’ve never had before and absolutely outstanding. The only thing which is bugging me here, is that I’ve had dinner like this many times. There wasn’t really anything very imaginative with it all. It’s almost too classic. I’m starting to see a shift in the way that food is delivered, lots of street food restaurants now occupying the tastebuds of the newer generation. Even other Michelin star restaurants are starting to become a little bit more creative. I understand the chef was classically trained, and this is absolutely perfect in today’s world and for the setting that you find it in. However this meal is a lot of money, and I just wish I could walk away and say that I had something different. Was I blown away, yes with the quality but no to the imagination. However this is an outstanding experience.

Lovely that Galton came round the room a couple of times and chatted from a distance with us and all tables.Food was all very good. Our advised preferences were complied with. All food was excellent. We were determined to support our favourite restaurant with rooms as soon as was possible after restrictions were relaxed, and booked a three night stay on a dinner bed and breakfast basis. The joy is having three different tasting menus over the stayThe venue is Covid savvy, QR code on arrival, ,masks worn by all in public areas. Good availability of sanitizer as you change rooms. The staff are great, friendly, knowledgeable, and keen to ensure that you can enjoy the food, and the sommelier.. well frankly brilliant. We enjoyed the food immensely, and is a great touch that the resident “celebrity chef” comes around with the canapés and is happy to take questions on them or the menu.My partner has a soya allergy, and they were armed with this information in advance, and on the third night the amendments to the canapés and the Duck course were unidentifiable from my but were completely safe for her. There were some surprises in the vegetables, beetroot and apple whirls are stunning.

Partner had tried to book the restaurant a couple of months earlier, firstly for Sunday lunch then either dinner of afternoon tea but the restaurant was full all week. Being persistent he called a couple of weeks later to try again. The friendly voice on the phone suggested going on the waitlist for Sunday lunch. Two months later we arrived at our rental cottage on the Friday and that afternoon we received a call informing us we had secured a table for Sunday Lunch. Great luck! the restaurant is beautifully laid out. Covid precautions were in place (sanitiser, NHS App QR code etc all staff wearing masks. The set four course Sunday lunch was exceptional. The canapés were a nice touch. As it is a set lunch we were a little apprehensive regarding the lack of choices but each course was delicious and the team produced very interesting and tasty food. The service was very attentive but not pushy, definitely recommend.

Upon arrival we expected to be asked to sanitise our hands and possibly have a temperature check. Instead we were ushered into the dining room (you can't sit in the lounge as we have done previously, due to Covid). That is fair enough. However, we were completely shocked that the staff were not wearing visors or masks. Our table was near a main walkway, despite it being very easy to pull it back. All of this added to us feeling very anxious. Staff do get close when placing and collecting meals and we just felt very vulnerable. Cutlery was placed on tables by staff, not wearing gloves who had previously touched a guest's mobile phone to take a photo - touch points! So many and not acceptable during a pandemic. We also felt that guests, as you can only dine for the Sunday lunch, should arrive via the conservatory so as to avoid going into the main Reception. Surely that makes a lot more sense? The food was nice but not too exciting. Some of the staff were clearly very inexperienced and not the standard one would expect in a michelin star restaurant. The toilets need some tlc - they are dated and clearly were not being regularly cleaned and checked during our time there. Hand towels had run out and paper towels were lying all over the place. Again, what is going on? We would not recommend or dine here again as we quite simply, did not feel safe. Other restaurants have given us much more confidence including those without a michelin star. Such a shame.

What to say about Galton’s Morston Hall restaurant? Let’s start with: food excellent, wine excellent. We stayed for 7 days, so with a different tasting menu on each day, we had a chance to see the full range of Galton’s cooking. The trio of appetisers to start were always interesting and inventive. The whole menu was well-balanced and showed terrific skill, with a lovely range of flavours, mostly from local produce. Perhaps in the “room for improvement” category were a brill course and a beef course, both of which were lacking in flavour, but that’s not bad, considering the total number of courses that we ate over the week. Perhaps there could be more innovation in the desserts, but they were delicious anyway. As for the wines, the list was good, varied and interesting. Importantly, the prices were extremely reasonable for a Michelin-star, with some of the lowest mark-ups I’ve seen in a long while.

We visited for dinner on Saturday, having an unexpected cancellation and we were top of the waiting list! I had tried to visit for lunch about 12 years ago, when I bought Galston's book (some great recipes), so we were pretty excited. It didn't disappoint. The food was so unusual, many little hidden "extras" inside each course, and as we were not hurried we never felt too full for the following course. Even managed the delicious home made chocolates at the end. The pea and mint course was the best, but all quite fabulous. Just sorry not to see Galston there. Thanks to the wonderful staff who served us too....
