Food was good but cutlery was filthy and the tables were disgusting. The first knife I picked up still had food on it. Hard to find clean ones.

Got a salad from the salad bar, mostly pasta, enjoyed it. Completed the meal deal with a full fat red bull and a boost bar. Bishop Auckland great place - needs a brothel.

I am a Coeliac and often find it difficult to obtain gluten free snacks or meals in cafe's and restaurants. For those who are coeliac or who know the consequences of eating anything containing wheat flour or cereals, will realise you can become ill very quickly afterwards.Clair's Gluten Free bakery is a clean and pleasant Cafe on Newgate street In Bishop Auckland which caters for both coeliacs and normal diets and the quality of food is amazing, coupled with reasonable prices and pleasant surroundings. Situated a couple of doors from Boyes store it has parking to the rear, and blue badge parking outside.

We called here this afternoon, after shopping, around 4.15 for an early tea. First requests for Lasagne and Beef and Ale Pie we’re unable to be fulfilled as they had sold out, so we both settled for Fish, Chips and Peas. Covid 19 precautions seemed to be very good, with tables allocated ( no-one at cafe entrance, but checkout operator allocated for us), screens between tables. Food arrived quickly and was hot and freshly prepared with generous portions. However, sitting finishing my cup of tea, I observed the young man who was pushing round a trolley, collecting trays after customers had vacated their tables. I was horrified to note that, although he had a spray (presumably anti-bacterial), the best the tables were getting was a quick wipe - not even the entire table top - with a raggy piece of j- cloth. Surely during the current pandemic this cannot be good practice? As we left the cafe, I approached the waitress who had served us. I very politely expressed my concerns to her, but the reply was that the young man was “not part of...” I just responded “Okay” and walked away, not wanting to engage in an argument over what I felt to be a blatant failure. I am sure that the management of Morrison’s of Bishop Auckland will be unaware of this example of very poor practice, so I hope that their attention will be brought to this review, and this failure will be rectified. It is such a shame when all their other staff are working so hard to do their best for their customers.

Having missed our regular breakfast visits we were delighted to find the cafe open again. Everything possible has been done to limit personal contact and and the divided seating is great. Tables and chairs clean and sanitised and staff today 20th July friendly and helpful. Special thanks to Dan who is a gem. Menu is slimmed down and a couple of items were missing from our breakfasts but did not complain to hardworking staff. Enjoyed our meals.

Called in here for meal with my friends today while visiting Bishop Auckland and there was a bit queue so see used the self service. The meal in cafe in this store was good and it was tasty. The service was average and they ask if everything is okay were as other stores that have a cafe don't do this but this store does . There was a big queue for hot drinks machine due to one been switched off and the other been out of order since there was only one machine working.

We take my mother in law to morrisons every week and call in for food. The food is actually really nice but the staff are terrible. The restaurant is always full of dirty dishes. There is one girl I think her name is India and she is really good but the rest are useless. Today I had to show a member if staff how to put my order through as she just could not work the till and there was a queue building up. It took her 10 mins to order 2 simple sandwiches then it took 30 mins for them to arrive. The sandwich was bacon egg and tomato how easy yet each item arrived separately. This cafe is useless

Today the cream scone was awful... It's what I always have here, and this was dry, heavy and cheap-tasting.Clearly, they aren't serving the same product I've enjoyed in the past, and I wouldn't bother with this again if it remains as it is. Such a disappointment...

Visited with a friend, there were no trays to put your food and drinks on so people were balancing items, lady at the till seemed to find this amusing, not so amusing for the lady who nearly dropped her cheesecake all over her. Hardly any cutlery and no napkins. A dubious looking roll of kitchen roll was placed there instead. One of the coffee machines was out of order. My cup was so dirty I could tell what drink had been in it previously, went back to get another and after 5 minutes of playing swap the cup realised they were all that dirty. Used the dubious kitchen roll to wash my chair of food and dirt before I could sit down. Was relieved I had some wipes in my bag so I could clean the dirty table. No table number stands so I balanced my card on the window sill, at which point I noticed the week old food crusted on the window sill turning green. The leather chair opposite me had been changed a different colour by the food and dirt stains on it. The floor was dirty. My friend asked if there was any gluten free bread for toast, they looked at her like she was a Martian and said no,they only had one toaster and they don't cater for gluten free as they only get asked about it once in a blue moon, but she could order the gammon dinner (at 10am in the morning). Was put off the gammon dinner by the ladies dirty apron she was serving in. Needless to say we made a sharp exit without eating as I wanted to survive the day and won't be returning any time soon. Such a shame as this used to be packed out every day and had fantastic food and service. Sort it out Morrison's.

Called in for breakfast and what a nice surprise. Quite a clever electronic ordering system which was simple to use. If you didn’t want one item you could replace it with another. We had sat down for only a few minutes and the food turned up. The food was very good quality. Staff pleasant enough. Only downside was the tables could have done with a better wipe.

Went in yesterday with a couple of friends for lunch. The electronic ordering system is useless, confuses all the old folks!, doesn't allow you to alter any items on the meals, swap things out etc.Louise on the till was excellent, sorted out swapping black pudding for extra beans etc. Unfortunately what I got wasn't what I ordered!. I asked for toast instead of fried bread and get the fried bread, it was deep fried and absolutely dripping with oil, left a big puddle on the plate when I took it off. The hash browns were the same, just a soggy wet mess of oil.One of my friends got the chicken burger, it was very well done and dry, chips were the same. The nice lady who brought the meals kindly swapped the fried bread for toast (which was burnt and the packets of butter were half melted), she said she'd come back to see if everything was OK (left a card on the table) but never did.

I love this cafe for informal business meetings. Great value and a great vibe; spacious, bright, relaxed and not too noisy. We love the coffee, and the cream scones are wonderful!

We like Morrison's cafe as we can always get good food at a good price. Experiences vary and this cafe was let down by ordering and coffee machines not functioning. But food and service were good

After having been closed for a couple of years the pub is now due to re-open on the 31st October 2024. Greene King are saying that the re-opened pub will revert to it's former name of 'The Sportsman's Arms' (in recent years it had been named 'The Belmont'). I've given a three star (average) review as I haven't a clue yet what the pub will be like - I just thought it might be useful to post that it is re-opening soon but I can't work out how to post without giving a rating. I'm hoping to return with a five-star review soon!!
