Awful experience AVOID AT CALL COSTS. Parking only for guests even though their car park is not full. Slow, offhand indifferent service. Mediocre food. Mediocre meat, under or overcooked vegetables. Stale desserts with items missing. Grossly overpriced wine. Noisy dark dining room. A thoroughly uneaten experience. Go to the pub. Everything is better. Never, ever again.

Afternoon Tea without the teacups? There's nothing more British than a pot of tea for two, so I was really looking forward to taking my daughter out for the Graduation high tea at Morgan's to celebrate her graduation. We were shown to a neat little table for two right in the middle of the splendid dining room. The centrepiece tea stand was indeed a spectacle piled high with a generous selection of sandwiches, pastries and cakes so we took plenty of photos, the maitre-d offered us water which duly arrived. We each had a water goblet and wine glass but curiously there was no tea cup to be seen so sipping our water we waited for the tea to arrive. I imagined a huge silver tray furnished with china teacups and saucers, teaspoons, a piping hot silver tea pot and water jug (for the all important boiling water) sugar lumps and perhaps some little token from the hotel to mark the celebration, this was advertised as a graduation high tea after all..would it be white chocolate scrolls each wrapped with a red ribbon perhaps? Our excitement was building. Not having had much for breakfast and what with the lengthy graduation ceremony we were both famished and so started on the delicious sandwiches, the grand tea tray was sure to arrive! After a good while it became obvious that out tea wasn't coming so I attracted the attention of a waiter and politely mentioned that we were still waiting for the tea to arrive. Not long after my quiet word with the waiter the 'tea' arrived, yes just one single solitary stainless steel teapot deposited on the, cluttered, table no hot water! (Sacrilidge!) No cups! (Unbelievable!) no milk even! (is this real?) The waiter had darted off to serve another table. In fairness we did have sugar lumps already on the table; although neither of us take it, the thought was there. In my experience as a retired hotelier myself I find that these days the standards of catering are shocking, such a disappointment. All the hard work put into the delicious sandwiches cakes and pastries ruined by a lack of staff training on how to serve a posh tea for two. We eventually received what was needed. Although instead of a hot water jug, we received a small milk jug for the hot water. It appears that you can't get a proper lidded hot water jug with your tea pot these days. I could explain the reasons for this basic accompaniment but feel I ought not need to. We did enjoy the occasion and had a laugh about the tea or indeed lack of it. It didn't seem right to spoil the occasion by complaining at the time. As we were here for the graduation we were offered a glass of prosecco back downstairs in the lounge, it was a nice touch though we declined but we just both felt that more thought could have gone into this very special occasion, even a congratulations card. I would love to send them off to Claridges to see how it's done properly!

Went for a meal, we were a party of 20ish. Waited about 3 hours to have our three courses. My main was brought out after everyone else had finished their main. The main I went for was a veggie option "vegetarian kebab". It was pathetic, just a few bits of veg on a skewer on top of lentils. No effort put into it at all. We waited another 45 minutes after the main for the desert to come out. The waiters were all nice but young people who clearly did not have much managerial support or guidance. The food from my perspective was very poor. This is the second time I've been now with a big party and the same outcome. Very disappointing.

Arrived and shown into the dining room… what’s happened… the furniture has all been replaced with cheap wonky white furniture which looked completely out of place and not in keeping with the room. Looked like something that would be better suited in a working man’s club. My chair was wonky and felt as if it could fall apart at any moment and was very uncomfortable! I have attached pics of how it used to look bs what I saw today! … hope it’s going through a refurb and new furniture is on order!!! The Sunday lunch was good however, although a little cold! Great variety of vegetables. The beetroot, onion and goats cheese tart was rather dry… would have liked more goats cheese. Every course was presented very well. Special mention to Ffion- she was excellent, nothing was too much trouble. Thank you Ffion.

We live in France but had Sunday lunch here for the first time in April during a visit to Swansea, so it was our first choice for lunch on our return to Swansea last Saturday. The experience was again an excellent one given the sublime ambiance of the building. The staff were attentive and welcoming, especially given their clear inexperience of service. The menu choice was good, courses presented beautifully, although all could have been warmer for me. The main course ( I chose beef) was voluminous, the selection of veg almost excessive, but at least no one could be disappointed . The rickety white chairs were distinctly uncomfortable and were like the cheap hire chairs for outdoor wedding receptions. I am sure we were more comfortably seated in April. Only one small hiccup - in April we parked in the car park, so naturally pulled in there again, but were informed by reception it was only for residents. My husband is a blue badge holder and could not have walked the distance from any ‘nearby’ car parking. Luckily as the car park was practically empty, the receptionist opened the barrier for us. Were we however not able to park there in future we could not book again, which would be a shame. Overall excellent price/quality ratio for a restaurant meal.

Used to go to Morgans for lunch and/or Sunday lunch and was a bit of a hit or miss scenario so was interested when I got an email to say they were now open for Sunday Lunch again. Place is much as it was, comfortable, nice surroundings, good tables etc. Staff were welcoming and pleasant - as before they do seem to rely on students/youngsters for service but in fairness many of them and willing to help. Had a good two courses. In fairness you could not fault the food, even though at £22 for two courses it is not the cheapest - my only feedback was that it could have been hotter - especially the various veg which came up in separate dishes - it was not a big problem but much cooler and it would have gone back. That aside the food and service was good. What really got me though was the wine prices, I know its Morgan's but £9 for a large Pinot Grigio (and not even a good Pinot) is scandalous in Swansea where even in a restaurant in Swansea its between £6 and £7.50 so basically £18 for two glasses is just taken the Michael! Funnily enough I looked on their website and Pinot is listed at £8.50 (still high) but maybe that is in the bar and and extra 50p in the restaurant! Its just things like that which take it away from the place as a regular venue. That is nothing to take it away from the staff on duty who were very attentive and welcoming.

Sunday Lunch on 10th July. The food was excellent, the presentation of the food was impressive and every dish was created with attention and care and looked very appetising… but the proof is in the eating! Thankfully it did not disappoint! The food was served hot and it was delicious with great flavours and combinations (goats cheese tart to start and roast beef for the main) the beef was cooked and presented to perfection!), I also appreciated the variety of crockery to present the food. Also appreciated the lovely fresh flowers and bottle of water on the table (nice touch). The service was also very good, everyone was so friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble-I have to mention the lovely Rosa… such a lovely lady. I feel sad that I have to leave the following feedback but it really affected my experience in a negative way. Morgans is a beautiful hotel and guest experience is vital, especially if you want your guests to enjoy their experience and want them go come back. I booked Sunday Lunch and was expecting to be seated in the main dining room… alas that was not to be… On what was one of the hottest days of the year, The manager chose to seat nearly 30 people in a very cramped area on the landing/atrium/foyer area with a glass roof (which was full of Birds poo!)… So we were immediately disappointed as I have sat in this area before and disliked it… the tables were literally so close and cramped that people including the restaurant staff could not even walk around the area/tables with ease. It was uncomfortably hot due to the sun beating down through the glass roof. Also the tables were crammed so close together you could hear conversations of the tables nearby it was as if they were sitting with you! Sunday lunch is a nice family occasion and it was ruined… Why seat people in an area which is not even a restaurant?!! I made my disappointment known to the manager immediately he just said that due to the number of people dining that it was not worth them opening the main dining room! Really?! There was at least 30 people there at that time!! The main dining room is not that big…but it is a lovely setting for Sunday Lunch. If I choose to eat either breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and it dinner again at Morgans, I want it to be served in the main dining room… it’s a lovely room and befits the standard of food served. To be honest when we were told we were eating on the ‘landing’ I really didn’t want to stay! I remember booking dinner for Christmas Eve, approx. 4yrs ago, (it was our first time out for dinner on Christmas Eve, we normally stay at home and have a beautiful dinner), we were really looking forward to it… only to be bitterly disappointed by being seated on the same cold landing, which was completely lacking in ambience and festive cheer… why?! Because they had laid the tables for Christmas Day Lunch! I’m sorry but they could have laid up the small number of tables after us… never booked again or will for Christmas Eve dinner at Morgans! Please can Morgans management think less of themselves and think more of their guests dining experience and open the main dining room for EVERY service. I am worried about booking again as I do not want to eat on a ‘landing’! Also in today’s age, I am taken aback as to why nobody at Morgans responds to feedback?, do they even look at feedback or care? Im sure they do… but they need to show that feedback has been taken on board and changes will be made!

So, I paid £20 for a set à la cart menu. Three courses of the tiniest portions I think I have ever had ANYWHERE! I was here for a friend’s birthday in a PRIVATE FUNCTION ROOM, and thought that it would be lovely to experience a 5* hotel meal... how wrong was I!? I pre-ordered my meal. The garlic mushrooms were lovely, and actually the ONLY nice thing about my meal. For the main course, I ordered a sirloin steak, medium, which the very miserable teenage boy waiter brought to the table and called me by name, then plonked it down on the table in front of me. I had ordered pepper sauce... none on the plate, so I had to ask for some and also stated that this had been pre-ordered. Then just as I was about to cut the steak, the waiter came back in with another plate and said “that’s not yours... this is” - no apology... just swapped my plate, and chucked this new dish down in front of me. Still no pepper sauce. My plate had about 6 thick cut chips on it and four cherry tomatoes on the vine. By this point, I was starting to get slightly frustrated. In order to fill my plate, I had to pay an additional £3-4 for onion rings JUST TO FEEL LIKE I HAD A FULL MEAL!!!!Just when I thought it couldn’t get any worse, I ordered a Malteaser Cheesecake for my dessert, to then be told that the chef didn’t have enough cheesecake to go around the 13 of us that had ordered... DESPITE THE FACT “dessert of the day” HAD BEEN PRE-ORDERED!!! I then, out of courtesy to my fellow diners, opted to change to the chocolate brownie... to then be presented with ONE brownie, cut in half into two triangle slices and plonked on a plate with cheap ‘strawberry ice cream syrup’, which they were trying to pass off as some kind of fruit coulis. It was so dry that I had to ask for cream, in order to be able to eat it. Disgusting!I also had two glasses of Shiraz which combined, came to something close to£15... I paid less for a better quality wine in the Ritz in London. Tiny portions of pretentious food combined with miserable teenage service...I will NOT be returning.

It was my Birthday and we had a voucher to use for Morgans which we had for our wedding. We checked out the web site and saw the Morgans Christmas Weekday menu which was £28 per person fir a 3 course meal. So we booked a table well in advance for a 4pm meal for two as it was my Birthday today. On my wifes and i arrival to the hotel i went to the bar and told them i had booked a table for two at 4pm they then took me to a small room with 8 tables in and said any of the 4 corners which were two seater tables . We were presented with the menu by a young waitress who I asked her if we could have the £28 menu which i showed he on my phone, which she told us its only until 3pm, and walked away. I checked on the web page and it did not say anything about the finishing times. After a couple of minutes she returned to ask if we would like a drink. Which we had half a peroni and a bottle of zero alcohol peroni. Each table had candles and Christmas crackers, so why not it was 5th December lol. So as you would we pulled the cracker which must have been one of the cheapest crackers you can buy the gift a plastic spinning top and a plastic paper clip lol.Starter for me salmon £8.95 and for my wife soup £5.60 Small portions but tasted good.Main food Turkey for my wife £ 16.95 and 8oz fillet of beef for me £24.95 Turkey cooked well but the roast potato tasted of old fat the thickened roasting juices very thick and a little overpowering. Side of sprouts, red cabbage and Swede ok. The chips on my meal again tasted as though they have been cooked in old oil, but the beef was fabulous tender and cooked perfect shame the rest was not good. Over all the value for money £63 meal for two in a back room no atmosphere not the best service or quality we felt a little over priced. Morgans Hotel from the outside always looks impressive even more so at this time of the year covered in Christmas lights. You expect it to be the same but it looked run down and un loved not cared for at all and very disappointing. There is much better quality places to eat out in Swansea which explains why only 4 more ladies were eating there. Would i go back? Sorry No.

We booked Morgans for my husband's 70 th birthday lunch today, but did not stay overnight. I cannot express the level of service we experienced in the restaurant, bar and at reception, it was just outstanding. We had to change the date due the road being closed on the original day booked, then had a problem with storing balloons and the cake. I rang Morgans and everything was sorted with no hassle, they made the table look festive and inviting, and no matter what I asked the staff to do or bring they obliged with smiles and politeness. They ensured we had drinks, extra milk for coffee and tea, extra vegetables with lunch despite being incredibly busy and in demand from others. The food was wonderful, beautifully presented, our family loved the menu, so much choice, and perfectly cooked. We felt the special birthday was enhanced by holding it in Morgans and would definitely recommend it, and will certainly use it again. Visited here for lunch the other day as I had been gifted a voucher last year for my birthday. I took a friend and can confidently saw it was a delicious treat yourself moment! we both had 3 courses, she's a vegetarian but had all the seafood dishes and said they were delicious. Personally, I had the hummus tortilla starter, pie of the day which was mushroom and beef and sticky toffee pudding and each course was delicious! Granted, the starter was literally a tortilla wrap cut up with a blob of hummus and some caramelised onions, I may have begrudged paying for that out of my own pocket, but it did taste good and as it was a gifted voucher I had no qualms! Service was very prompt and while they maybe were not the friendliest staff ever we had no problems at all they were just very efficient. Would recommend going here as a treat, as it is slightly on the pricier side and maybe skipping the starters if there's nothing too much up your street, but overall a very nice experience.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

I’ll start my review by saying that I visited Morgan’s several years ago and had a fantastic meal, which is why when my partner and I decided to visit Swansea to celebrate his 30th birthday, I fully recommended that we book this restaurant for his birthday meal. We arrived and the bar you enter into was just as beautiful as I remember. We had a drink before our meal and weren’t rushed at all to sit at our table - great service. However we were told that there was an event in the main restaurant tonight so we would be seated downstairs (something that we weren’t told at the time of booking). In the dining area downstairs it was clear that they had tried to make an effort by creating more atmosphere with white table cloths, music and a TV playing an open fire but essentially it felt like dining in a wooden box and all you could hear was the buzzy atmosphere upstairs in the main restaurant. Then instead of the a la carte menu we had seen previously online, we were given just paper print outs of a different menu that included a 3 courses for £20 deal. When we questioned this and asked if this was the only menu available, we were told that because of lack of customers they had decided to restrict the a la carte menu to Fridays and Saturdays only as it was quite expensive - something that again we hadn’t been told at the time of booking or online. We then have a look at the wine list and pick a bottle of red, only to be told that they are in the process of changing over the wine list so some might not be available and guess what... our choice of wine wasn’t on tonight. We picked a different bottle and when that came out our waiter noticed that our table wasn’t at all even and that he would be back to fix it. But that didnn’t happen.By this point we feel a little disappointed but we are still having a good time. We order a starter and a main (mini fish cakes for my other half, soup for me and then we both ordered a steak cooked medium rare). When the starters arrived, my soup came but no bread which seems unusual for such a well established restaurant. A few minutes later our main waiter comes down and notices my bread is missing so he’ll go and fetch me some. When it arrives I’m given 4 slices of completely stale white bread and rock hard butter than has come straight from the fridge. We have a bit of a chuckle about it and carried on eating. The soup itself was fine although nothing special. When our steaks arrive, everything looks great. The chunky chips are lovely and fluffy, roasted vine tomatoes are beautifully sweet. However we cut into our steaks and they are both over cooked. Mine was ok and probably just over medium (when we had both ordered medium rare) so I kept eating. My other half’s however was so well done it was grey in the middle so we had to send it back. This meant that we basically ate our meals separately as his new steak didn’t arrive until I had near enough finished. When it arrived it was better but still not really medium rare. We decided to order a dessert so we’re bought menus. However at about this this, guests from the main restaurant were now coming out of the main restaurant and into the bar, which meant quite a lengthy wait for our waiter to come back and take our order as he was busy serving them. At about this time, the music in our downstairs box was also turned off, but we could hear the music had been turned off in the bar upstairs, meaning that we literally sat alone in a room with no service and no atmosphere waiting for someone to come back and take our order. The desserts themselves were ok, although the chocolate cake a little dry. We had planned to stay in and have a few drinks in the bar but at this point decided to pay up and cut our losses. Overall we were completely disappointed with the experience as it really wasn’t on par with the birthday meal we had expected. I’m not sure I would return now. If it wasn’t for the lovely staff, who were very polite and really just ding what they can with the situation, then I wouldn’t even give it a 2 star rating.

Although I would agree that it is good value for money, the food was decidedly average and not of the standard I would expect from such an establishment. One small example is the uninspiring slice of bread which accompanied the soup. Having said that, there was nothing actually wrong with the meal, and the bar area is most attractive.

I don't often go out for Sunday lunch as it's often a let down but when visiting family they told us how good the Sunday platter at Morgan's was so we thought we'd give it a try. Alas you need to book the platters 48 hours in advance but we decided to give their normal menu a go anyway. The food was great - rib of beef, turkey and pork belly all served with a good selection of veg and really tasty gravy. Accommodating a celiac was no problem either. The quality of food was matched by the attentive service and the gin selection in the bar (147 types I was reliably informed on the day of visiting!). I'd definitely recommend and will certainly be back.

Went on November 22nd for a family birthday meal 10 diners in total. One of the most disappointing meals for a long time, the service was no better. Talk about being kept waiting we were seated at 6pm and it wasn’t until 7.30pm that our tapas was served, unbelievable. The main meals took equally as long, the fish of the day was so dry and had no taste, the Cesar salad had chicken which was cooked to death. The burgers were good but not much skill needed to cook a burger and definitely not worth £15. The steaks in all fairness were excellent. The service was slow even though there were only two other tables seating two couples you would think the restaurant was packed. Morgans Hotel looks stunning with the Christmas lights very festive a great job, pity the food and service didn’t match.

Paid £40 for food at Morgan's for boujalais day. Very poor!!! Totally not worth the money. Tasteless. The soup was like dish water, the main was a lump of overcooked beef slapped on a but of mash and surrounded in salty gravy with hardly any veg and the dessert tried to resemble lemon meringue pie. I've eaten we were asked to leave and didn't have time to finish our drinks. I would not recommend and will definedefi not be going there again.

I went for a meal with a group of friends on a Saturday night to the Morgan’s Hotel. They have a closed parking area outside the hotel, which is perfect if you have a reasonably small car, unfortunately the 4x4 we were in could not fit into the remaining tight spaces available. The bar on the ground floor is very smart and comfortable, a great place for a cocktail. The restaurant is on the first floor, there is a lift. (the toilets however are behind the bar area on the ground fooor). The food was excellent, beautifully presented, great portion size (not too big) and very tasty. The set menu price was also very reasonable for the quality of the meal. Service was attentive and friendly. I would thoroughly recommend eating here and would come back in an instant.

Although I could not fault the service, the waitresses were more than helpful, I found myself disappointed with the afternoon tea experience. After having afternoon tea in other hotels, I was expecting bone china crockery with finger sandwiches. The china was in fact just basic white and the sandwiches were triangular with thick crusts. There was no atmosphere in the room which was off from the main bar area. It had a large TV screen which was showing shots of scenery and the background music did not seem appropriate for the occasion. I came to the conclusion that Morgan’s offer a modern type of afternoon tea which did not suit my taste.

I'm in total agreement with the previous reviewer - what a shambles! Crammed in like sardines, food service taking over an hour to be served and nil customer service. It beggars belief that this hotel is classed as a 5* establishment - I'd struggle to give it 1*! No thought was given to the comfort of the customer - just a money spinner for Morgan's. At £32.50 a head for what I would class as your average Sunday lunch, is not cheap. The poor waiting staff tried their best to serve us, but it was an impossible task so we had to resort to passing plates and dishes down the table as there was literally no space for them to get through. A number of our party complained to the manager, who's response was to give us 10% off our NEXT meal in Morgan's. Let's put it this way, I don't think many of our group will be taking up that offer. We were so looking forward to lovely Christmas get together in a fine establishment, in fact what we got was comparable to school dinners in a very noisy canteen! There are plenty of lovely restaurants in Swansea to choose from which offer excellent service and value for money, my tip would be to try them and give Morgan's a wide berth!

Sunday lunch at Morgan’s is a must. We tried the new sharing platters, we opted for lamb. The concept is that the joint is delivered to your table and you carve it yourself, which is great as you can the slices as thick or thin as you wish. It was accompanied by the best cauliflower cheese I have ever tasted, home made roasties and plenty of seasonal veg. If you got room for desert...bread and butter pudding is the one to find room for.

Booked this for a works event as we thought it would be a fab atmosphere with lovely food! How wrong was I. We received terrible service with less than fantastic food. The staff were borderline rude, no I take that back! They were snobby and gave us shockingly poor service. We were in the second sitting and as each table finished their food they folded up the table to create the dance floor. In the end we were the last table left eating while everyone was dancing around us. We felt pressured to rush our food and drinks and in the end left our food unfinished! They made us feel so un welcomed there and made no apologies for it. There was little atmosphere even though it was packed. I will NEVER go back here again!

Both were delicious but I have to give special mention to the steak! Cooked to perfection, generous portion for fillet, melt in your mouth kind of steak! The pepper sauce, which is unlike any pepper sauce I've had before (it was red colour) , complimented it beautifully and was delicious. Staff were attentive and friendly. Highly recommend.

We booked Sunday lunch yesterday and overall the experience was much improved. We hadn’t visited Morgan’s for some months as we felt the service and food quality became really poor at the end of last year and this was our first visit of 2017. Overall we were really pleased with our meal. The food was tasty, and the customer service was great. My only criticism would be the delay between ordering and the food arriving (about 45 minutes). Several guests arrived after us and were all served their main meals before us as they had the beef and we had the chicken. We put this down to the preparation time, and as we weren’t in a hurry this did not really phase us. Would be happy to back! The main dining room has also been redecorated.

Went for afternoon tea and sat completely alone for almost two hours whilst being served very mediocre food despite them telling me they were not sure if they could fit me in originally! The sandwiches were served with white bread (crusts on) and the bread tasted like it came from the bargain section at Tescos. Smoked salmon and cucumber with white bread is just not done folks and why did the ham sandwiches (packet ham maybe) taste of smoked salmon? Likewise the cakes, scones, etc., tasted like they just came out of the packet from the same source, even the jam tasted like it came straight out of a packet.I am only awarding two stars as the staff were just great and very apologetic and reduced my bill by about 30%.Sorry Morgans but I have had much better for a lot less, even after the discount. Don't think it's worth another try, so disappointing with what is supposed to be a 4/5 Star hotel!

Visited for Sunday lunch today.... it was ok.... but Morgan's come on!! You can do so much better. You want to be known as good? Then you need to do better!!! The staff aren't great -nice enough, but not great. You need better, professional waiters, waitresses and managers to oversee properly. An example, like I say it's not awful and sounds picky but just not great: ordered a pint of Stella (after being told Stella was on tap) a bottle of red wine and a pint of diet coke no ice. We got.... no pint (and no explanation why - later found out they didn't have Stella on tap. But no reason why) wrong bottle of wine and a full glass of ice with a small bottle of coke. Like I say not earth shatteringly bad just annoying start to the meal. Linen table cloths that could have been ironed by a 5 year old. Mis matched glasses and cups. Food was nice...apart from the salty gravy. No tooth picks or cocktail sticks. Come on guys.... you can do better....

Booked in here for Lunch with a number of work colleagues as one of our Directors was leaving, it all started really well, nice table all set out for us away from normal diners, service was a little slow and very confusing, were we having 2 courses or 3, who was having what etc etc but we got through it, the meal itself was ok, nothing special but for 2 courses at £10.95 as advertised it was ok. BUT, when it came to the bill it was not £10.95, it was £21.00, we had no notice of the increase at all and the restaurant justified this charge by stating we had a special table and menu, absolute rubbish, the menu was just the same as any other menu on the day, what a rip off.During the speeches they did not turn the music down and the staff were chatting loudly nearby, very rude...Morgans will not be chosen in the future...very poor

I’ve never left a review before but this was too dreadful not too! Horrendous customer service after we ordered over £90 worth of food, delivery driver delivered food to the wrong address with nothing to let us know it had been delivered! When calling to request a refund I was told that I’d made a mistake and to double check with my house and that I should’ve contacted them earlier (even though we waited the allocated delivery time -1hr) We were then hung up on by a member of the team whilst we were attempting to claim our money back 2 hours after our delivery with no food! If I could leave a lower review I would! I suggest no one risks wasting any money on this terrible/rude business!
