Moorhen - Pub & Grill in Harlow

We came here for our first anniversary after getting good reviews about the place. It didn’t disappoint! We will be back. Thank you for the decorations, our waiter was Reece who was very friendly.

Great place for family. Our children had a great time on the playground and adults had the chance to chat. We were sitting in the garden, with a lovely view and managed our children in a playground. Highly recommend.

Always a great experience when I visit with my family. The food is always so nice. Very friendly staff and has a great outdoor play area for the kids. They are also brilliant with allergens with a separate tablet to view and double check.

Friendly staff. Good portions of food. A great pub by the River Stort. Seating outside and watching boats traveling on the river.

Can’t comment on food or Atmosphere. Pub is great, drinks selection you’d expect, amazing outdoor space with tables by the river. Love coming here for a swift one at the end of the day while the kids run off some steam in the massive garden with play area! Would recommend.

Multi-level Greene King pub in an old historic building. Tastefully decorated inside and mostly focused on food offerings but there are some ales on offer plus the usual lagers. It's most notable feature is that it's right on the Stort and has quite a large enclosed beer garden with a kiddie play area. There's a board with a short walk described on it (1 1/4 miles). Good place to bring a young family on a sunny day

I'm now having to eat wheat or Gluten free foods and it sucks! Anyway, I had already picked out what I was going to eat as they actually have a Gluten free menu 😊 however, I didn't realise that I'd picked the week day menu lol. Waitress was brilliant and brought me the Saturday Gluten free menu. I chose a shared meal. It consists of grilled Halloumi, red pepper houmous, sweet chilli jam, piri piri sauce, pesto, smashed new potatoes and a slice of warm toasted bread. Then I had the apple crumble with custard for dessert. I actually wasn't over keen on the crumble. Maybe it's because I remember how a "normal" crumble tastes 🤔 Anyway I won't be having it again. Next time I'll have the Eton mess. It's a lovely pub and loads of parking available. On the canal alongside you can stroll afterwards and admire the boats. Burn off a few calories. My daughter had a burger which she said was excellent and she had the Eton Mess for dessert.

We had a lovely meal, great playground for rhe kiss. Reece our waiter was very helpful and a credit to the pub

Salad was thrown together in large pieces all limp and brown menu been changed not very good now. We won't be going back.

Served by Reece tonight for our work night out. He made sure all the drinks and food orders were correct. Food was quick and he ensured everyone was satisfied with our food. Really good server!!

The atmosphere is very chill. The service is pretty good and the food was really delicious. Calamari was crispy and very yummy. The burger was just juicy and rather meaty and not overcooked the cheese was melted and just a nice toasted seeded bun, really good burger, great taste. The only thing I would say is the chips were not piping hot but were still quite nice

Went to a private party, Jordan and Reece were amazing and looked after us well. There are not many places you can enjoy yourself as a adult and as a child alike.

Since they changed the menu, my daughter doesn't want to go there as they took off the mac n cheese. 😡Now I have to find another place 😂

Great pub, we sat outside with the dogs by the river. The guy behind the bar was super friendly and accommodating. Nice choice of drinks. Little bowls of water are scattered around for the dogs. Have eaten here before and was lovely but didn’t eat on this occasion.

We love coming to the Moorhen, we are usually always served my Milos who is very helpful and friendly, the last 3 times I have had the slow cooked lamb shank. OMG it's outstanding. We will be back

Shannon has served us a few times over the past few weeks, suns been out and this is the pub to go to. Food is the best pub food around. Hot, amazing value, speedy service. Try the cauliflower bang bang starter (little kick to it) thanks for making family dinner enjoyable. 🥰

This place is nice for a family eating out as a treat. Like almost everywhere now it’s expensive and the quality is not what it was.

Had a lovely afternoon at The Moorhen. Great service and the food was tasty and well worth a try! The salmon was amazing and I will definitely be back to try some of the other dishes

Brilliant ..we come here all the time .. Reece is awesome .. in fact everyone that works here is lovely!! Food is great. Atmosphere is so so lovely .. there’s a play area for the kids outside .. couldn’t ask for a better outing for the afternoon 10/10

Visited over Easter and had a fantastic day as always. The new menu is lovely nice to have a change. The staff were again as always friendly especially Billie always has a smile and a chat. Keep it up team see you again soon.

Love coming here, does what it says on the tin. Lively setting by the canal and always managed to get a nice table. The staff are always lovely, in particular Milos! He has always been great and gave good menu tips when it recently changed. Staff always have such nice nails as well!!!! 😂

We had fish and chips, which were cooked to perfection. We didn't have to wait long for the food to arrive. I had sticky toffee pudding With custard and asked for extra custard which wasn't a problem.

Table wasn't ready on arrival but only had to wait 5-10 minutes for this. Long wait for a drink at bar whilst waiting for table, but got drinks quickly once at table. But once we were sat down, incredible service from all servers we had. Food was lovely and came in good time (not too quick as well which was nice). Atmosphere made for a really enjoyable afternoon with friends. Milos was great and made sure we had everything we needed. Lovely place and would definitely go back again.

Toon over and hour to receive our food after ordering only for it to be served hard from being left under heat for too long. Very disappointing.

Menus changed and not for the better got a serving of lasagna which was a small triangle and two slices of garlic bread definitely not right for the price it cost be lucky if it would fill a small child up

Updated review 06/04/25 Food was good , can't complain. Kebabs were a bit mushy-I guess that's how they had to be ... steak it self was great no complaints there. Burger was good Staff who served us in the restaurant , despite the guy(Blonde hair) who was smiley but for some reason it took him over 40 min to actually come and get the order. People that came after us got their food and left before we even had a chance to eat! The person thats served us never came up to even ask if the food was okay compared going to other people and asking them. Took forever to come with the bill had to come up and ask for it, on top of that forgot to bring the sauce for the steak. (But did , once asked) Won't complain further about it ... but again with the staff you either lucky to get a good one or not and we wasn't lucky this time around unfortunately. With the place to be honest is either hit or a miss depending on who serves you. The best person is definitely the tallest /hench man they have there not sure if his name is Milo . Quick accurate and great but unfortunately got another one to serve us this time....

Booked in advance, for Mother’s Day, where we intended to have brunch, as in previous years. However four days earlier the menu was changed, no brunch available anymore, only a Sunday menu, which is good if you were expecting to have lunch, on asking there were no sandwiches or ciabatta’s just Sunday menu. The food we had was nice, but felt they should have informed us beforehand about the change in menu. Next Mother’s Day we will be going elsewhere for brunch.

Food was good overall but the kids corn on the cob were served cold. The website claimed kids eat free for most of April but that wasn’t the case. When I asked the server if it was valid on weekday or for the Easter break. She said she didn’t know and doubted it.

Had an absolutely amazing time , didn’t realise they had changed menu but actually the menu was really good gives it a nice fresh feel , not overpriced and the service was great as well not too intrusive but looked after well through , thank you Liam for looking after us , we will be back again soon .

Relaxed place along the canal, to enjoy a bite to eat and drink, seating inside and out. Recently changed its food menu and drinks menu need more rum choices and steaks. Milos was our server tonight and couldnt fault him anyway.

Great service by Sue on Mothering Sunday lunch and great food. Made to feel welcome and looked after very well.

Liam was so lovely, this was our second time being served by him after a birthday party we had in which he was fantastic. Provided great service, checked on us multiple times to make sure everything was okay and during our first visit he even helped us plan out and execute the best birthday possible.

A good pub close to Harlow Mill Station. I met a friend for lunch before heading back to the office. Nice location by the river stort. Standard chain pub menu, but decent quality and price. Friendly staff.

Went here for lunch. The food was delicious however it's when the bill came that it went south. So we went during the lunch time menu and ordered 3 meals that are on the lunch menu and the main menu. The lunch one is cheaper so we ordered off of there. When the bill came they tried to charge us full price. When we protested this they were so rude and made it out like it was our fault. If we ordered something off the menu that's on the lunch menu in the time slot why are we being charged full price. They didn't have a coherent answer to this but kept saying we shouldn't of ordered off the main menu which we didn't. Then the manager came over with the new bill and was so rude. So rude. Like undeededly rude. Saying next time order properly etc. The waiter was nice but the managers were rude as hell. Definitely never going back

The new menu looks fantastic and the ham and hock pie was amazing with the mash the dessert was even better which was a biscuit cheesecake such a lovely new menu. The service was great too couldn’t fault the place.

Visited as a group of three on a Sunday food was OK service fine, social distancing fine ,the Abbot ale a favorite of mine however was below standard. Return visit, food not great, limited menu, Abbot ale seemed better.

Hello, been yesterday at this pub my husband Ordered “Ultimate BBQ grill platter” unfortunately, none of the meat was grilled and the worst thing about it is that chicken came full of hair and all meat was boiled (medium boiled) We asked if they can change it they took the platter and they said that they cut the hair from the chicken and they put it back a bit in the oven and then they bring the same chicken back to us which was disgusting, We asked Why they bring the same chicken back to us and the waiter was very rude, he start arguing like what do you expect us to do….. I am very disappointed about this pub, I’m very sorry that I didn’t take any picture of that lovely platter and the chicken full of hair that was nearly ready to fly….

Went for a Sunday evening roast....really beautifully cooked pink sirloin beef roast potatoes were crisp and fluffy 3 vegetables all cooked to perfection and large Yorkshire pudding. For the money probably the best pub roast I've had. Our waiter Leo was great, friendly helpful just an overall really nice evening

They’ve always had a great menu and prices, but I’ve noticed the quality of food has improved too. We had a delicious meal and the service was fantastic. Definitely one of the go to places in Harlow.
