Moorhen - Pub & Grill in Harlow

Visited for the first time. Milos was very helpful and attentative. Especially helpful to our son having his first tomahawk.

Been here three times now and as a coeliac disabled mum (!) it's has been brilliant every time. Cannot fault the staff. Most genuinely welcoming staff I've ever come across and nothings any bother. Even squeezed us in at short notice when we were struggling to find a place to eat with a little one. (We don't live local) Delicious food, attentive staff, so much choice, wonderful surroundings, great play area, would definitely recommend. Thankyou all

Went on Sunday as it's a prime location to see the firework display at Town park, somewhere nice and warm to watch and enjoy the show and have great food at the same time Place was packed but staff were fantastic and looked after us so well

I came down with my husband and daughter we was greeted by a gentleman I assumed he was a manager as he had a different shirt on to the other members of staff. He was very lovely to my daughter gave her some colouring stuff and asked her which seat she wanted to sit on. Our waitress was lovely and the food was amazing very tasty and my daughter wanted more. Everything came out altogether and everyone was happy.

We had the best time here tonight !! Leo was incredible and gave us the best experience. Will defo be coming back !! :)

Went here with the family and have an excellent experience food was amazing and the service was even better. Definitely coming back soon and maybe bring the rest of the family.

Gentleman greeting customers scruffy top and trainers, when asked for a table he huffed we had to wait 5 minutes for him to come back told us he had to clean the table but there was only 2 other tables taken. Really rude person wont be coming back

Excellent experience for a budget family restaurant Our food was delicious, plentiful and well priced.

Had Sunday roast turkey, not bad for the money, got roast beef and pork also.

Sarah, the manager, was extremely welcoming and accommodating on today's visit. Nothing was too much trouble when it came to customising the food for my son's needs. The waiting staff are always so friendly and helpful when we visit. The food was very nice, big portion sizes and well presented. We come here fairly regularly and always have a good experience! Thank you guys!

We have eaten here several times & it's always been a good experience 😀 We were served by Milos..... in fact we're mostly served by him! He's a great asset to the place. Clean & friendly place to eat.

The food was great, especially the macaroni and cheese. I loved the ambiance and location as well next to the canal, and for my first time being in a pub in the UK, this was wonderful. Shoutout to our server Liam as well, who was very kind and helpful. Thank you!

The roast dinner was amazing. Couldn’t ask for any better. The staff are so polite and are very accommodating to every need. So get yourself down there for a Sunday lunch or any sort of food. Definitely recommend.

Fantastic evening - made a five star experience by the wonderful waiter Reece!

The only reason why we have given a high star is because is amazing … great customer service by Reece. Food is ok nothing to moan or rate about. Nice to seat by river .. overall will come back. Shame you can’t eat on other benches outside.

I asked for my steak medium rare not my chicken. Lovely staff and a nice place just disappointed was a lovely meal until I got to the part uncooked chicken.

My friend and I eat here weekly. The staff are always super friendly and efficient. Today we a Sunday roast which was excellent. As usual the food was great value for money. Reece our waiter was helpful, friendly and remembers that I have decaf coffee. We will be back on Tuesday as usual.

Crap food should have microwaved at home

Just paid £111.76 for meals that were terrible, I'd be better off chucking it down a drain, I wouldn't mind paying if food was nice, word of warning please don't eat here!

Lovely place, especially for stressed parents as there’s lot of space and options for kids to play. Reece and Sue were our lovely servers today and greatly added to the ambience. A strong recommendation

Nice setting by the river. Food was good. Service poor, got food and drinks order wrong.

Leo was our waiter. He was very polite and courteous. Smart and attentive. I had the Salmon it was nice, but the roasted vegetables hopped in the pan and out again. Tasted like salad pepper (raw) New potatoes were not fresh. All in all though is was edible. Mum enjoyed here mains. One more criticism, when you have on your menu fondue and you tell your customer you have fondue, then you should not serve up hot chocolate in a pan.

Food was OK nothing special. Had to find our own menu from another table. Inside seems well kept but outside was not very clean. We actually cleaned a table in order to sit down

Didn't like it. Visited a few years ago and was able to sit along the riverbank, these seats seem to be for barge owners only now so we had to sit in the children's playground.

Second time we’ve been here. Unfortunately the service was very disappointing today. The lady serving us was very pushy to get us to order when we were not ready (we trying to get the kids settled). We found her to be very abrasive and unpleasant, clearly not wanting to be there herself. It’s a shame as the pub and food itself are very nice. Will try other places in future instead.

Great service and great food Our waiter Leo was very attentive and kind. We were served very quickly, we got a starter, a main, two drinks each and a dessert for £60 and the portions were great. Would definitely come back!

Great food I always go for the steak as it gets better and better each time I go. I'm a chocoholic and their brownie is to die for. The atmosphere is chilled and what a view right opposite the canal. The station is a stone throws away. I have been coming here since I was a teenager. 😊😁👍

Food was nice but lots of the tables were left dirty and covered in leftovers the whole time we were there.

We went into the moorhen for a roast dinner and I think it was the worst roast we’ve ever had! Very salty! Looked and tasted like microwaved food, large sausage in bacon raw, Yorkshire pudding hard, dry and in parts doughy! Veg solid, and tasteless. All in all would never go there again or recommend to anyone 😞. Update-In answer to your reply we did mention this to the waitress, we paid for our meal and left with no apology when paying!

Used to be a lovely place for boaters to moor up for the evenings; tables outside with flowers and kept lawns. I wouldn't go within a mile of the place now, for fear of not having a boat to go back to after a drink or meal. It's become a meeting place for the wrong sort of people...ask the local residents.

Great little spot near Harlow Town station alongside the River Stort. Get the Ribeye steak. Cooked perfectly & the service was excellent. Big thank you to Rob & Reece for making my wife & I feel very welcome on a hot Tuesday in July.

The setting is lovely, on the River Stort with canal boats, wild ducks and geese and plenty of green all around. Parking is plentiful. The atmosphere is family friendly - there is some playground equipment in the large garden and they rent out a soft play space. The food is just above 'spoons quality, and the kitchen struggles to get orders out on time when it is busy. Otherwise it's perfectly fine, generally pretty clean and good for families

Staff are reallt lovely, location is amazing! Value is very poor. I order a burger and chips. And 2 starts and im still hungry after... the starters were great but the mains were small and un inspiring. Not worth Ive spent almost 70 quid for 2 people to eat and have 2 drinks each and we still hungry :(

Stunning inside and out, one of my favourite places for a cheeky change of scenery, lovely little play area outside for the kids gives it a added bonus

Usually only give good reviews but not today Stopped by for a lunch time cold drink and plate of nachos - bar empty but struggled to get served Designated outside dining table next a very lively and happy childrens play area not great if you just want some quiet time out Moved to a table just outside pub doors but told by bar staff - you can’t eat there Took nachos to table outside where there was a designed smoking sign. Staff came out to say could not eat the nachos there. So proceeded to eat nachos as told not allowed a refund - Unless you have children yourself or want to be surrounded by squealing children then don’t come here Oh and by the way there are no No Eating signs up and we are taking about an outside space WORLD GONE MAD WITH JOBS WORTH:!!!!

We didn't eat as there was no outside food allowed on the day we went, so we just had drinks outside. Situated next to the river but fenced off from it.

Eat inside the first time which was good. Second time outside. Food was good but the tables were dirty, sticky and disgusting. Puts me right off.

NO STARS!!! 28.6.24 went to the Moorhen tonight and were thoroughly disappointed with the place. All the cutlery on the table was dirty, still had remnants of food, the table was sticky, the room smelled funky and the windowledge was filthy. Should have known the minute we approached the front door which was a big sign of a badly cleaned establishment. Walked out in disgust although the waiter and manager did nothing to show they were bothered.

We went there for dinner amd got the steak with extra prawns and butter and 1 burger and drinks. There were no seasonings at all on the stake or prawns. The prawns looked like they were defrosted and lightly warmed in the microwave. Definitely not worth it the price. I wouldn't mind spending more if the food was nice. The drink I had was very flat and not tasting nice. I had the same drink many times in other pubs and tasted nicer. It's a shame because I like the garden area and the pub. I would not be going back. Shame again as I only live around the corner.

Yet again had a very enjoyable family meal. 27/5/24. The kitchen went above and beyond to ensure our 97yr old mother (in-law) could enjoy a plate of food that she could chew easily. She thoroughly enjoyed herself. We all enjoyed our food in a very relaxing atmosphere. Thank you again to The Moorhen and to our wonderful server Sophie. Really enjoyable family lunch. Staff as always friendly and it was a credit to them all the care they took to protect their customers during these difficult times. Special mention to the gentleman who took our orders. We all appreciated your friendly service. Thank you.

The pub itself is lovely. The staff were a little offish. They were happy to chat almost themselves but were very abrupt with the customers. Also, the website clearly advertised the soft play area, which was closed. There was no signage upon arrival to advise of this, nor did the staff advise. A very disappointed Austistic child 😔 Not a great impression for a first visit. Thankfully, the weather was fine, and they could play on the outside play area. The food was lovely, hot, and great value. It's just a shame the visit was let down by customer service and the soft play area being unexpectedly closed.

Nice location by the riverside. Food was decent and reasonably priced and the staff were friendly and efficient. A tad noisy at lunchtime being half term and child friendly. I would return.

Took my friend there for a special meal 9th May, was the worst meal I have had ,mixed grill the biggest thing on the plate was the black pudding the steak,and gammon was so tuff couldn't eat it half a chicken breast was the smallest iv ever seen and half a cherry tomatoe,my friend she had steak sandwich again steak you couldn't chew was like leather,definitely not impressed poor food poor standards would not recommend the moorhen to anyone .

Easy to find using Google maps. We pre-booked a table for lunch but it wasn't that busy when we arrived but better safe than sorry!! The menu is varied to cater for all tastes and very reasonably priced. The quality was outstanding! Highly recommend the Ruddles pie. Best I have tasted by a country mile!! Big shout out to our server, Shannon, who went that extra mile to make us all feel welcome! Definitely be back!!

Was there for a family meal, the food was not good, I had hunters chicken which had two very small pieces of what I’ll say was chicken smothered in a vile BBQ sauce type gloop and hard chips and some tasteless coleslaw, peas on my wife’s and sisters gammon meal were more like hard marrow fat rather than garden peas, my brother-in-laws fish looked like it had been cremated several times and was dry. After reading some reviews we chose to go there, so it was our own fault, but if you’re offering food at least make it edible.

Lovely restaurant but seems severely understaffed. I had to clean/disinfect my own table as there were no clean tables, big enough for 4 adults. The atmosphere is lovely and has nice music. We had burgers, fish and chips and the full rack of BBQ ribs. The food was served VERY QUICKLY after placing out order and I was apprehensive; I was right unfortunately as it was really mediocre , like it was prepared hours ago and heated in a microwave. Seasoning was not a thing either. I couldn't even have half of my ribs, they were really not well cooked. The chips were really good and the drinks nice. Overall, I feel it's a lovely pub for a drink only but not for hot food. By the way, when I went to order, the person taking the order had to leave my order in the middle and pass it on to another colleague as he claimed he had to be somewhere. That resulted in me having to explain to the second person that I had paid for a beer , causing further delays and confusion. It's with great sadness that I have to mention the mess in staffing as it's clear that all members are very hard working. So I'm really thankful for their efforts. Seems management has to do changes, especially if they want to charge that much. Edit: my review was read to my party of 4 and they all agreed that it was a fair representation of what transpired. Respectfully, the owner spends way too much time on reviews to defend the establishment and criticize the customers. I wonder if leaving plates and dirty tables way after customers are gone is a good tactic. Yes, we were in the bar area. And yes the empty tables there had plates and glasses from previous customers. And no, it's not my job to fetch an employee to clean up and this is self explanatory so I'm not going in further details. As for the food, I'm a big foodie (both in attitude and in size 😆) and I can tell the difference between boiled and grilled meat. And by the way I never had corn so watery that it was splashing my friend opposite me at every bite. Food ok but very expensive. Chaos behind the bar. We've been told there's no table for us. When we sat we noticed there was more than one table being able to serve our group being free till the closing of the pub (if cleaned). Some of them with mountains of rubbish. Disrespectful saff. Ordered drink forgotten by the member of the staff. Got it at the end but could be done straight away. I don't recommend. It is not my responsibility to be your babysitter and tell you what to do.

Came here for a children's birthday party but also enjoyed the food from the menu. Have actually eaten here a few times and Has always been good
