Moorhen - Pub & Grill in Harlow

Updated review 06/04/25 Food was good , can't complain. Kebabs were a bit mushy-I guess that's how they had to be ... steak it self was great no complaints there. Burger was good Staff who served us in the restaurant , despite the guy(Blonde hair) who was smiley but for some reason it took him over 40 min to actually come and get the order. People that came after us got their food and left before we even had a chance to eat! The person thats served us never came up to even ask if the food was okay compared going to other people and asking them. Took forever to come with the bill had to come up and ask for it, on top of that forgot to bring the sauce for the steak. (But did , once asked) Won't complain further about it ... but again with the staff you either lucky to get a good one or not and we wasn't lucky this time around unfortunately. With the place to be honest is either hit or a miss depending on who serves you. The best person is definitely the tallest /hench man they have there not sure if his name is Milo . Quick accurate and great but unfortunately got another one to serve us this time....

Food was good overall but the kids corn on the cob were served cold. The website claimed kids eat free for most of April but that wasn’t the case. When I asked the server if it was valid on weekday or for the Easter break. She said she didn’t know and doubted it.

Booked in advance, for Mother’s Day, where we intended to have brunch, as in previous years. However four days earlier the menu was changed, no brunch available anymore, only a Sunday menu, which is good if you were expecting to have lunch, on asking there were no sandwiches or ciabatta’s just Sunday menu. The food we had was nice, but felt they should have informed us beforehand about the change in menu. Next Mother’s Day we will be going elsewhere for brunch.

Had an absolutely amazing time , didn’t realise they had changed menu but actually the menu was really good gives it a nice fresh feel , not overpriced and the service was great as well not too intrusive but looked after well through , thank you Liam for looking after us , we will be back again soon .

Dissatisfied that they no longer serve Aspalls on tap! The previous food menu had more to choose from with more variety. Great staff, slow bar service.

Relaxed place along the canal, to enjoy a bite to eat and drink, seating inside and out. Recently changed its food menu and drinks menu need more rum choices and steaks. Milos was our server tonight and couldnt fault him anyway.

Great service by Sue on Mothering Sunday lunch and great food. Made to feel welcome and looked after very well.

Liam was so lovely, this was our second time being served by him after a birthday party we had in which he was fantastic. Provided great service, checked on us multiple times to make sure everything was okay and during our first visit he even helped us plan out and execute the best birthday possible.

A good pub close to Harlow Mill Station. I met a friend for lunch before heading back to the office. Nice location by the river stort. Standard chain pub menu, but decent quality and price. Friendly staff.

Went here for lunch. The food was delicious however it's when the bill came that it went south. So we went during the lunch time menu and ordered 3 meals that are on the lunch menu and the main menu. The lunch one is cheaper so we ordered off of there. When the bill came they tried to charge us full price. When we protested this they were so rude and made it out like it was our fault. If we ordered something off the menu that's on the lunch menu in the time slot why are we being charged full price. They didn't have a coherent answer to this but kept saying we shouldn't of ordered off the main menu which we didn't. Then the manager came over with the new bill and was so rude. So rude. Like undeededly rude. Saying next time order properly etc. The waiter was nice but the managers were rude as hell. Definitely never going back

New menu, foods really nice Sunday roast is lovely

The new menu looks fantastic and the ham and hock pie was amazing with the mash the dessert was even better which was a biscuit cheesecake such a lovely new menu. The service was great too couldn’t fault the place.

Visited as a group of three on a Sunday food was OK service fine, social distancing fine ,the Abbot ale a favorite of mine however was below standard. Return visit, food not great, limited menu, Abbot ale seemed better.

Hello, been yesterday at this pub my husband Ordered “Ultimate BBQ grill platter” unfortunately, none of the meat was grilled and the worst thing about it is that chicken came full of hair and all meat was boiled (medium boiled) We asked if they can change it they took the platter and they said that they cut the hair from the chicken and they put it back a bit in the oven and then they bring the same chicken back to us which was disgusting, We asked Why they bring the same chicken back to us and the waiter was very rude, he start arguing like what do you expect us to do….. I am very disappointed about this pub, I’m very sorry that I didn’t take any picture of that lovely platter and the chicken full of hair that was nearly ready to fly….

They’ve always had a great menu and prices, but I’ve noticed the quality of food has improved too. We had a delicious meal and the service was fantastic. Definitely one of the go to places in Harlow.

Went for a Sunday evening roast....really beautifully cooked pink sirloin beef roast potatoes were crisp and fluffy 3 vegetables all cooked to perfection and large Yorkshire pudding. For the money probably the best pub roast I've had. Our waiter Leo was great, friendly helpful just an overall really nice evening

I've reviewed The Moorhen before, but I felt compelled to write again because, once again, we had a fantastic experience. From the friendly bar staff to the gentleman who showed us to our table, and the outstanding service from our waiter, Milos, everything was top-notch. The bar boasts a great selection of beers, lagers, wines, spirits, and non-alcoholic options. The atmosphere is always inviting, with the added bonus of lovely river views that enhance the experience. The restaurant area is well-presented and spacious, creating a comfortable and enjoyable dining environment. The menu offers a good variety of choices, and while the food is classic pub fare, it’s consistently well-prepared and exactly what you’d hope for from a quality establishment. I've been coming here for years and highly recommend giving it a try if you haven’t already. It’s especially nice during the summer months when you can fully appreciate the scenic surroundings. A special mention once again to Milos—his friendliness and warm welcome truly stood out. I hope The Moorhen recognises what a fantastic asset he is to the team!

Just had my son’s 3rd birthday party here and it was amazing! The booking process was easy and the kids had so much fun in the soft play and really enjoyed their food. It’s a great location for kids birthday parties as adults can easily order food & drinks too! Reece and Shannon were especially helpful serving us all and making sure everyone was happy 😊

Every time we have been to the Moorhen our experience has been exceptional. The food is really good and the staff are always very welcoming and if you want to change anything on the menu, they are very accommodating and attentive.

Myself, boyfriend & two of our friends went for a Sunday lunch meal, a very nice meal and nice service in an friendly atmosphere, BUT it was really cold and the windows were leaking and the drafts were really horrible for the two of us sitting nearest to the windows, i and one of my friends could not remove our outta coat and tracksuit top. You need to get some decent draft excluder stuff and stop the water coming in the place.

Reece our server was amazing couldn’t have been more accommodating if he tried. Was such a lovely young man. We came for my nieces 1st birthday and we were here for our boxing day meal and it was just as good as before.

We had a fantastic dining experience at Pub and Grill yesterday. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, perfect for a relaxed meal with friends. I ordered the ribeye steak with chips and merlot & beef sauce and it was cooked to perfection – tender, juicy and bursting with flavor. The chips were crispy and golden and the wine sauce added a rich, delicious touch to the dish. My friend went for the mixed platter, which included chicken, pork ribs, corn, and coleslaw. It was a hearty and satisfying combination, with the ribs being especially tender and flavorful, and the coleslaw adding a nice, refreshing crunch. Our server, Sue, was absolutely wonderful – attentive, friendly and made sure everything was just right. She truly added to the overall positive experience. I highly recommend Pub and Grill for anyone looking for excellent food, great service and a welcoming atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back!

The Moorhen is always a great place to come for a nice meal. Their ingredients are always fresh and their food is always cooked with skill. Is great to be served by Milos when we visit, gives us the best recommendations on what to get on the menu. Very very good burgers and dessert. Recently had some steaks, but the grilled chicken and ribs are also fantastic.

Leo and Reece are the most respectful and professional staff I have met. They made sure I was fully accommodated and even recommended drinks. They’re top notch give them a raise they deserve it.

Enjoyed a lovely meal with family, service great, only downside was loosing an expensive earing.

Hired the room downstairs for my wife dad’s 90th birthday. After trying many venues we were told about the Moorhen. Sophie at the Moorhen on the day insured that drinks were aplenty and the buffet was provided as requested. It was the perfect venue for 30 people. A great place to hold a small event. There was also a play area for the small number of children that attended.

Thank you to all the staff who laid on an amazing evening for our volunteers Christmas meal. Everything from where we were sat, the welcome, ambience, the friendly and helpful staff made us feel special. As a group of 30, you pulled out all the stops. The food was lovely hot and fresh, you gave us time between courses and couldn’t not of been more accommodating of any extra needs.

Excellent 60th birthday meal out with my mum, steaks all cooked to perfection thank you to Liam and all the hard working kitchen team this time of year. Milos our waiter very polite as always and funny. We will defiantly be returning here again.

Our waiter,I wish I got his name, he was tall skinny and had blonde hair and was literally the loveliest man ever! He was so kind a courteous, he was friendly and lovely, he was engaging and made sure as it was my birthday I was there with my 3 boys 18,12 and 10 and my 15month old granddaughter, that he was OK with anything I asked or might have need to change. The food was lovely and hot and actually amazing quality everyone finished their plates a HUGE step up in food quality and options now its been taken over. I will definitely return with my little family again. The service makes the meal not just the food and the man we had was amazing and I couldn't praise him high enough. My boys are trained and always take their plates back where ever we go and anything the baby drops I always clean up and he was so lovely and grateful. The service, the food and the atmosphere and the prices were amazing we all had mains and puddings as it was a treat and it still was way under cost wise what I thought it would be. Thankyou after a tough year and through no fault of her own raising my granddaughter the past year myself, the only thing I wanted was a meal with them at what was nanas favourite place years ago. We visit The Moorhen about once a month and the food is always amazing, never a complaint from our table. The staff are fantastic, professional and personable. Milos is an outstanding member of the staffing team and on every occasion provides incredible service.

Rump Steaks not cooked properly. My medium rare was raw on the inside and very fatty. My friend's was gristle. Other items were fine.

Been here three times now and as a coeliac disabled mum (!) it's has been brilliant every time. Cannot fault the staff. Most genuinely welcoming staff I've ever come across and nothings any bother. Even squeezed us in at short notice when we were struggling to find a place to eat with a little one. Went on Sunday as it's a prime location to see the firework display at Town park, somewhere nice and warm to watch and enjoy the show and have great food at the same time Place was packed but staff were fantastic and looked after us so well

I came down with my husband and daughter we was greeted by a gentleman I assumed he was a manager as he had a different shirt on to the other members of staff. He was very lovely to my daughter gave her some colouring stuff and asked her which seat she wanted to sit on. Our waitress was lovely and the food was amazing very tasty and my daughter wanted more. Everything came out altogether and everyone was happy.

Gentleman greeting customers scruffy top and trainers, when asked for a table he huffed we had to wait 5 minutes for him to come back told us he had to clean the table but there was only 2 other tables taken. Really rude person wont be coming back

We have eaten here several times & it's always been a good experience 😀 We were served by Milos..... in fact we're mostly served by him! He's a great asset to the place. Clean & friendly place to eat.
