Moon Lee Garden in Havering

Last minute decision to have a Chinese meal and happened upon the moon Lee garden . Friendly staff , great fresh food and not rushed between starters and main . Would definitely recommend you try this place we are so pleased to have found a local restaurant which we can’t wait to return to .

Oh my word! What a brilliant meal! I'd jokingly like to say 'if you want to hear people moan as if in the throws of passion then eat here!' all I could hear was my dinner companion moaning 'ummmm' and 'Oh! Yeah!' Possibly the best meal in hornchuch! In all seriousness, brilliant service lovely and friendly staff and simply excellent chinese food - we will definately be back for more! This easy to miss restaurant, opposite Hornchurch police station is too good to miss!

This venue continually provides an excellent takeaway. Everything is tasty, hot and good portions. Even on Christmas Eve, food was still consistent high standards despite a long wait! Definitely our go to takeaway, reasonably priced dishes, friendly staff.. highly recommended

I have just got back from Marrakesh and the markets and airports are chaotic and this restaurant when busy reminded me of Morocco

Nice to return to my favourite restaurant in town. First time back there since it re-opened 4 weeks ago. The food is still of a high quality, fresh and well presented. The environment is calm and relaxed with new decor and air con. We were there for nearly 2 hours chilling out, that was great. The service is efficient and accommodating to our needs - excellent!! Thank you. Street parking (meter) is good and available near the restaurant. I would definitely visit again.

Lovely to see our old favourite re-opened after a fire in the kitchen. Lovely duck pancakes. Staff friendly as always and nice fresh decor. Lovely place to take the family and good value too.

The take-away portion sizes were really small, the crispy chilli beef had approx 20 thin strands of beef in it. The food was barely warm and after a 3 minutes drive home it was actually cold. We were originally told 20 minutes until it was ready for collection, this then turned in 35 minutes when we were given the collection time, we were actually given our food an hour after ordering forcing a long wait sitting in the (closed due to covid lock down) restaurant.

We wanted to try a new takeaway and lots of friends had recommended Moon Lee Garden. We have never eaten in the restaurant or visited the restaurant, but the takeaway was delicious! Arrived within the hour. Food was hot. Especially liked the special fried rice and chow mein (in gravy). Also ordered sweet & sour prawn balls and kung po prawns - all delicious. We will definitely be ordering again. Scrummy! Wasn't too keen on the capital spare ribs - different to what we normally get - my fault, think I ordered incorrectly, but everything else was lovely! Couldn't fault it - thoroughly enjoyed it. Thank you.

Very bad food and very slow customer service. resturent carpet is very dirty long waiting time. Not recommending anyone.

Not been back to this restaurant for a few years but had fond memories. Thought I’d book for a early dinner and enjoy the ambiance. Starter was the first disappointment ,the crab claws came with a chilli sauce which was so sweet it was inedible. I like spicy food so this was a big let down. For main course I ordered tofu in black bean sauce. This was so bland that it may have been in bisto gravy. I would expect this dish to be served with chillies and have a little bit. It was probably the worst dish I’ve had in a Chinese restaurant for some years. This was a massive disappointment as I’d previously had great food. I won’t be back for a while

We have been ordering takeaways from here for a long time. Love the chicken chow mein and chicken hong kong style. Lovely friendly waiters and waitresses in there. Best chinese in hornchurch!

Had been about 19 months since our last visit but standards had definitely dropped. The restaurant is badly in need of a refurb with torn wallpaper & a grubby old suspended ceiling. The service was non engaging & indifferent. The food was of the very average takeaway kind, not really restaurant quality. Quite inexpensive but reflected about what the food was worth. Don’t come here expecting your night out to be an occasion, probably ok for an ‘eat & run’ but that’s about all these days.

The restaurant food is unhygienic as I can see rats near the bins at the back door of the restaurant. My husband and I had serious diarrhoea after dinner at this restaurant a few days ago.

Very disappointed. Having eat here for almost 40 years always had amazing food & good service. Went last night, food was ok, staff were rude and had no rapport at all, asked for chopsticks & felt it was too much trouble. Felt we were really rushed even though they was not extremely busy. Then to top it all when we paid using a card, they asked us how much tip we wanted to put on there. We obviously none, thank you. Will not be returning unless they up there game with the staff....... such a shame as we have been going regularly for so many years.

Had a meal in the Moon Lee Garden and spent £75. The food was very nice but there was very little plum sauce with the duck. We asked for more plum sauce and I couldn’t believe that they charged an extra £2 for about an extra tablespoon of plum sauce. Really!!!! I find this unacceptable they should give an adequate serving in the first place. This kind of service lets you down really.

Ordered a takeaway was told 25 mins arrived after 15 mins and food was ready to go.brilliant flavour brilliant service and very polite.Food is very good and you get large portions.Thank you Moon Lee gardens.

Long time Chinese food lover, 1st time reviewer, yes I feel that strongly compelled to write review following take away tonight.Duck was totally underweight without any meat, was like being given a tub of dried pork scratchings. Received about 7 pieces of cucumber and spring onion, and less than a quarter pot of sauce. The satay chicken was simply disgusting, lack of sauce which was revolting around scraggly bits of over fried chicken. Avoid at all costs.

Fab food, reasonably priced. Nice choice of wines. Friendly waiters. Was very impressed having not been here for some time & looking forward to a return visit soon.

11 of us for dinner.food service was good .portions very good.we all had diffrent dishes and so we all was trying diffrent and all enjoyed.Drinks were good .eaten here before and had take aways.We wasnt rushed either and we took a birthday cake and they bought it out with the coffee.this was my first night out for a long time and came over faint .and sadly did faintThe staff were very good and helpful.and besides my friends a lady helped aswell.so a wonderful evening helpful staff thankyou.

Lived in Hornchurch for 18 years and this is the best chinese restaraunt around. Great food, great service and so affordable!

Had a fair number of takeaways but never eaten in. Went here for xmas eve meal and was very pleased we chose this restaurant. Nice 'old school' restaurant, really nice food;plenty of it and great service; no wonder it's been in hornchurch for many many years.

I was here celebrating my wife birthday and family and friends gathering , I would recommend this restaurant for everyone who loves Chinese food,the restaurant it was over 50 years history and experience unbelievable!!!although weekends quite busy but the food was good and the service excellent friendly stuff and owner as well anyway thank you so much as given us an great time in your restaurant we definitely come back again xxx

Went here for an evening meal and must say I was surprised how busy it was. The food was amazing and very reasonably priced, the staff were lovely and left you alone to eat your meal. Every table was full up and it was busy with people buying take away, lovely place to eat and nice and cheap. Go visit and enjoy a pleasant meal at a great price!

We eat here a lot. The food is very nice and prices reasonable. Only problem is the service on a Friday and Saturday evening is very slow in the restaurant as their phones don't stop ringing for take away order. They need to employ more staff to look after customers in the restaurant avoid losing them due to slow service.

Went to the Moon Lee Gardens on a Saturday night booked a table as it is only a very small place and gets packed between 6pm till 9pm

We haven't been for some time due to living in a different country, but going back tonight we were not disappointed. Tasty hot food and plenty of it served by really friendly staff. No idea what a previous review was about, I would recommend this place highly.

Have eaten here three times and it has improved a great deal from a few years a years ago I have enjoyed everything

Fantastic food served hot..presentation was excellent...Staff was very efficient..nothing to much trouble There was 33 of us and the food was amazing..I tried.chicken satay..crispy chicken wings..BBQ ribs..& noodles..absolutely fabulous....

This Chinese restaurant is the best around food is excellent the staff are always polite would definitely recommend.

choi mein was dry and chips were hard it was absolute sh** !! if they had served me this in the resturant I would of told them to take it away and change it ...alwful ! waste of £20 !! won't be ordering from there again ! EVER !!!!!! DO NOT ORDER TAKEAWAY!!

Absolutely love this restaurant, me and my family have been using it for years. Eating in is great, very small restaurant with slightly old decor but the food is fantastic. Take away is excellent too, however I find the noodles taste better in the restaurant rather than in the takeaway.

Small but pleasant restaurant with very good food & service, definitely one of the best ones locally. The decor is basic and unfussy but food/service/value wise it wipes the floor with nearby plusher restaurants like the Peking Garden. Recommended, will definitely go back.

What a surprise this little restaurant is, approximately 30 covers but very busy and lots of take away sales too. The courses are large, we started with the mixed hors d'oeuvres, then followed with the crispy duck all beautifully cooked, by the time the main courses arrived I was full. The main courses were enough for two people. Just bear that in mind.

Good food lovely atmosphere nice place to go decor is a dated and could do with freshening up but other than that it's a great place to go

Great food. Always go when I'm back home visiting the parents. The staff are super nice and accommodating and it never disappoints! Wish I lived closer so I could make my visits a weekly occurrence!

This restaurant offers very good food and service. There is a friendly atmosphere in this restaurant. It is very popular so at weekends it it wise to book. We only ever order our take away from this restaurant, and at weekends they have a delivery service.

This used to be our regular takeaway when we lived in Hornchurch. Owned by Polly and Albert, it truly is the best Chinese takeaway and there is a lovely little restaurant area if you wish to eat in. We now live 150 miles away but we still make a point of dropping in for a meal when we're in the area. A must visit. 5 stars.

Brilliant restaurant in the middle of Hornchurch. Very friendly staff and the food is great. Would recommend booking on a Friday or Saturday, as it is very popular. They also now do deliveries as well as takeaway.

I've eaten in the restaurant which is small so I'd advise booking at the weekend and also have takeaway delivered regularly (once a month). A good menu which is reasonably priced. The portions are very good and the staff are friendly and helpful, they always add a little more chilli to Singapore noodles if I ask as I like them extra hot! You won't be disappointed, give it a try?

I have been here a few times, it reminds me of the places I used to visit in my youth in the East End of London. The prices are very reasonable and the service is attentive. The food is simple unfussy and enjoyable. The portions are quite large and found that I struggled with three dishes and a desert.

I am surprised that Moon Lee Garden is not on Tripadvisor. This is a charming little restaurant/takeaway that serves lovely food and delivers great service. Situated opposite the Hornchurch Police Station it is tucked away and keeps to itself, but if you know of it, it is a little gem. I have eaten in here on several occasions and it is my Chinese takeaway of choice. All dishes are well presented and well proportioned. Personally I would put it on a par with Peking Garden, and on a recent experience choose it above many others.
