Monty's Deli Sandwich Bar in Birmingham

Great coffee shop at a good location. Serves a decent range of food and hot drinks. Plus in the morning they do free toast with hot drinks, how can you not like that!

So the sandwich was actually quite nice but you seriously need to sort out your server’s attitude. I got asked a mumbled question which I couldn’t hear so asked her to repeat it which she did and I still couldn’t hear her to which she rolled her eyes and this continued all the way through the order to the point where she just shrugged her shoulders in front of me and muttered something to her colleague. It’s not my fault you can’t speak up, have screens in the way and play music which interrupts the customer service is it.? I’ll go elsewhere from now on.

Easy sandwich bar, extensive menu, baguettes and wraps made fresh. Quick and friendly service. Good value, generally under £4.50 for baguette + filling + up to 4 salad items.

Ordered 8 breakfasts on 22.12.20 of varying kind: hot sandwiches, breakfast boxes etc., all food was exceptionally cooked, quality and hot, most enjoyable! Definitely be visiting again! Highly recommend :-) Julie

Found Montys by accident yesterday, but this will now be first on list for food when in town. We were looking to avoid the usual chains and support a local business and came across Montys. The shop was clean and welcoming, all covid restrictions covered. Great choice of food, everything looked fresh and good quality. The best sandwich I've had for a long time. Just shows that it's worth walking that little bit further from the centre of town.

This morning I visited Monty’s as I often do to buy sandwiches for the office. As I waited for my order, several people entered not wearing face coverings. No challenge from staff and no signage at the entrance requesting that masks are used. I understand that these are selfish and inconsiderate people, but Monty’s could do more!

I go to Monty's most days for lunch when I am working in the office and have never had a bad sandwich. There is lots to choose from, I am pretty consistent and tend to have the same thing but for the more adventurous there is loads of choice. We also regularly get breakfast sandwiches on a Friday morning and they are always good (they also do veggie sausage which alot of places don't so that is a major PLUS 👍). Staff are always very friendly and service is quick - don't be put off by a large queue it tends to move quick 😋

I pass Monty’s every morning on my way to work and I’ve been tempted to try for a while. I finally popped in for lunch today. I chose the bacon, Brie and cranberry wrap for £3.95-really good value for the amount of fillings out get-Monty’s are not stingy! I’m not ashamed to say this lunch made my Thursday-it was delicious. I also had a cappuccino which was nicer than any I’ve had at the large chain coffee shops. I’m going back in the morning for another coffee...I also note I’ll get 2 free pieces of toast-another bargain. Staff are friendly and polite and given I was fifth in the queue, I expected a bit of a wait but no. I was in and out in 5 minutes. Thanks for a wonderful lunch, Monty’s-you’ve gained a regular customer today.

Fantastic breakfast sandwiches and fast service considering how busy it is! Always reliable and have such a range on offer! Fully recommend for that Friday treat!

Been here a few times now where I have a sandwich and a soup and every time I've enjoyed the choice & the quality of both, coupled with prompt service!. Today is the only day where I thought the soup (Broccoli) was too salty ! ( I mean over the top ; generally I dont mind some salt to a lesser extent!) I'm guessing this was an error as I would have thought Broccoli soup doesn't require too much seasoning at all!?. Nonetheless , its a fantastic Deli which stands out from the rest so I shall continue to visit & recommend to others!.

When I don't bring lunch from home, I frequently buy a baguette from Monty's. The staff are friendly and demonstrate a good level of hygiene when preparing food. The food seems reasonably priced for a city centre establishment, and the choice is vast. I almost always have the same type of baguette, but have never had a bad one.

Went there in the morning to get myself and the guys I work with a bacon and egg sandwich was really good exactly what I asked for and wanted. Had a look at the Deli/salad bar it has a excellent selection! Peppers, Olives, Onions, Carrots, Sweetcorn, Lettuce, Cucumber, Tomatoes, Spinach and a variety of Meats,fish and possibly cheese's! I have definitely missed some off! Went back at lunch time to get a Salad for my Dinner/Tea it was awesome, I will be going back again! I'm very picky with my salads! Can't stand the standard salad item's tomatoes,sweetcorn and cucumber.

By far my favourite lunch place, super fresh ingredients and crispy baguettes. Staff are really friendly and including Angela who remembers my regular order off by heart!

I've never had a bad sandwich at Monty's, the ingredients are always fresh with generous portions (the bacon is the best). Great value as well.

I considered going to Monty’s for a while but was a little apprehensive due to the queue size during the peak lunch time rush. After much deliberation a colleague and I deciding to finally go slightly before noon. The food was simply exquisite with the quality of the ingredients really coming through in the texture and flavour of the sandwich. The photo doesn’t really do the food justice sadly but I will definitely be returning.

Went in for the first time to grab breakfast this morning...they had an extensive menu but as I was in a rush and wanted something simple I just ordered a cinnamon bagel.

There are so many places near my place of work which I could visit on my lunch break but I wouldn't go anywhere but here, there's so much choice you could never get board, the prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get, it's always fresh and the staff are fast and friendly and always happy to help with suggestions. Keep up the good work guys!!

The food is very good quality at Monty's but the biggest let down which has resulted in me looking at alternative options is the quantity of the salads. Its so hit and miss. I had one yesterday that was perfect( right size salad and filling) and today was terrible( not much salad and literary a small spoon of tuna). i'm not saying it need to be rammed but when you get back to the office and it reduced to half its size, its frustrating. The worst culprit is the blond lady(long standing employee) who is stationed on the right side of the salad bar. Just cause you have small portions doesn't mean we have to.

Just paid £4 for a prawn sandwich to throw it away as all it tastes of is brine! Disgusting. Totally cheap prawns clearly not even washed properly and hugely overpriced

went in today for the first time as started working in Birmingham this week and came across this little mind gold I was a amazed so much to choice didn't know where to start but front of house went threw it with me special's of the day soups hot chicken of the day I decided on a chicken tikka salad box it was yummy this is my place to eat now well done Monty's

Went in this morning, while waiting for breakfast the woman cutting melon was eating as she was cutting - one for me one for the paying customer - didn’t think people who worked with food were allowed to just help themselves

I have been to Monty's on a few occasions and always had the carvery sandwich with all extras and although at £4 its a little on the pricier side I will happily pay as you would be hard pushed to find anything better for cheaper in the city.

You get what you paid for. This isn't the cheapest place to get lunch, but you're paying for quality. There's almost always a queue - but they are very efficient and so the queue moves quickly.

I go here every day to pick lunch up for either myself or someone in my office. We have never been disappointed - the quality, choice and price are fab! Beats places like Pret and Philpotts hands down.

As a fussy healthy eater there really aren't many options in Birmingham. Monty's is a welcomed addition. Wide selection of salad options, generous portions, and great service. DO NOT let the line put you off! It goes down really fast!!

I can honestly say monty’s sandwich’s are the best you can get in Birmingham, you pay a little more than other shops but you get better service and better quality food. Always give this place a 5/5

Mi primera visita a Monty's ayer pedí un bowl donde ensalada de pollo tikka. Normalmente tienen ensaladas de metro, que son más grandes que Monty's pero tienes demasiado lechuga y me cuesta comer todo. En Monty's ME DIERON pasta con mi ensalada y ensalada de hojas diferentes no sólo lechuga iceberg. Había un montón de Pollo Tikka y el yogur y menta (hay mucho de él) estaba delicioso. Sólo recientemente comenzó a trabajar en el centro de la ciudad. Mis colegas me recomendó el lugar inicialmente y como me desanime completamente asumida sería demasiado caro. Sin embargo, un par de visitas más tarde y es ahora mi delicioso regalo! He probado sándwiches, limonada rosa, opciones calientes. No he tenido una patata chaqueta todavía, pero pude ver un pedido y parecía fresca, bien llena, y por un precio inferior a su hombre patata carro especial. La comida es fresca, sana y vale la pena el dinero!

Este lugar tiene buenos sandwiches y baguettes por un precio decente. El servicio es extremadamente rápido, organizado y super amable e interesado desde donde estaba yo (Holanda). I would never go anywhere else for lunch during the week! You can customise your baguettes to have pretty much anything you want. Excellent quality bread, good ingredients and friendly staff. The queue is normally out the door, but they have so many people working at peak time that you'll still be served within 5 minutes max, so don't let the queue put you off!It can be a bit expensive, but it's so worth it!

I occasionally pop in to Monty's for lunch when I want to get out of the office.I would recommend the 'hot special of the day' every time. Always delicious. However, I note that the portions are not as generous as they used to be (there is now a measuring cup which the staff use) whereas it used to be free form and I used to get some amazing portions of deliciousness. The breakfast rolls are also tasty and good value.Service is always very efficient. It is a great location if you work on Colmore Row or near to Snowhill station.

The carvery sandwich here is not one to miss! Definitely get a baguette thoughAs the gravy can cause the sandwich version to get messy! The staff were friendly and efficient and even gave me a huge bit of crackling too!

I have used Monty's for several years, more recently for corporate lunches. Now whenever a member of staff come to Birmingham from one of our other offices, they head straight to Monty's for lunch.Great quality produce, always fresh and reasonably price for what you get....Highly recommend Montys

I have eaten from this deli a few times now and have always had good food. Today I had the Mexican chicken wrap which is my favourite. Really nice modern place with quick friendly service and really nice fresh food. Would definitely recommend a visit.

I've been a regular customer here over the last few years. Each time I'm never left disappointed! The food is always of amazing quality and quantity! The staff are always welcoming,and friendly, even when the queue is out of the door!! Hygiene standards here are also exceptional, even when under pressure at busy lunchtimes. I couldn't ask for a better deli in Birmingham town centre,and believe me I've seen a few who try and don't succeed! Keep up the good work!

I have been to this sandwich bar 3 times now and will not be returning. It is always busy and popular with people on their lunch breaks. But it is very loud in there so much so that the staff aren't able to always hear you. The first time I visited I ordered a jacket potato and asked if they offered bolognese and cheese to which the lady said yes. But when I got back to work I found I had been give mayonnaise and cheese.....definitely not an ideal combination. The next time I went in the queue was out the door but when I got closer inside I could see that this was just for the deli bar but it is very confusing as you don't have to queue to order hot food such as a jacket potato. But the layout isn't clear and you don't know whether you are allowed to go ahead of people or whether they may be waiting to order hot food. Finally this last time I went in the gentleman who served me apologised that there was only 1 jacket potato left and it was very small. I said it was fine as I wanted it anyway and he said he'd offer me a discount because in showing it me I could see it was half the size of the normal ones they offer. But when he went to someone I imagine superior to him on the tills he argued with him that they would still charge the same price. So I am thankful that the guy did try and be fair to me and save me from paying full price for half the amount of food. But following the abruptness of the second guy to his colleague and the clear eagerness to make a sale and be done with me, I shall find a new lunch time haunt.

I was very dissapointed with a sandwich I had from here recently, you must also know what you want as the staff give a look as if to say hurry up, understandable I suppose as it needs to be a quick turn round. Right back to my Sandwich.....I had Beef on brown bread, the salad on it was alright but the Beef was inedable ,it was that horrible processed stuff and very tough, I just chucked it away. To charge what they do with inferior products is unacceptable. i won't be returning, the staff are'nt that welcoming either on the food counter side perhaps its the pressure. I found the staff on the payment tills were more friendly. I will say that other friends of mine have had good sandwiches, baguettes and wraps and I had a very nice hot pork bap once but all think rather overpriced.They need to get better quality ingredients to match up with prices.

I love this place. I pop in regularly before work to get a lovely reasonably priced coffee and warm buttery toast. I have tried their sandwiches also which are immense. The staff are really pleasant, the food is good and it is very good value. It's a really nice deli bar, with good food, nice decor, good prices and without the pretentiousness of some other similar cafe/restaurants in the locality, whilst still having a sense of class.

Montys was busy for good reason, this was the first time I had been and I was not disappointed. The queue went down fast and with a range of either hot or cold sandwiches I opted for the club sandwich. I was not disappointed, the ingredients were fresh, the bacon in particular was amazing (thick but still crispy), there was a choice of salad and the bread was excellent. A very generously sized club sandwich came out at £4.30 and was well worth the money. I'll definitely be coming back.

I popped into Montys this morning I know they use the best produce and I wanted some soup but I am funny about soup don't like tinned soup or packet soup they informed me that its home made, I had a carton of mushroom soup 2.70, just ate it it was the best soup ever.

The popular nature of this sandwich bar especially for workers at the nearby offices at lunchtime is well deserved. Large range of cold fillings with daily specials, complemented by a hot counter offering a roast, as well as soups and jacket potatoes. Despite the queue it works efficiently and is well worth a visit.

I visit Montys on the odd occasion, it is great food in all honesty, very nice and fresh. Tastes great too.The queues are very long but not something to get put off by as they go down within minutes. Credit there to the staff who work so fast. My only concern is being vegetarian i am a little uncomfortable that the same gloves and knives are used to serve meat and slice bread. Price is ok too, bought a veg filled baguette the other day and it was £4.00 something. obviously not possible to eat every day but as a treat it is good.

The sandwiches here aren't cheap but they are good. Bagels are only available during breakfast service

I discovered Montys about 6 months ago- I now will not go anywhere else for my lunch- always fresh & tasty.Sandwiches/baguettes always filled well, biggest sandwiches I have had from a deli and really tasty. Good quality ingredients. Queue's are always out the door but they go down really quickly - great selection of sandwiches, salads and hot foods both for breakfast and lunch

This is a popular place to grab a sandwich at lunchtime or a coffee in the morning. Very busy with office types most of the time. Prices are reasonable and the food is fresh and made in front of you.

I have visited various Birmingham sandwich bars over the years but Monty's is the freshest and they stuff the fillings as much as they can. Not just with leafs or shredded carrot :-( but with meat!!! Thank you!! Not weighed portions which hardly cover your bread but stuffed so it's bursting at the seems. Their porridge is also the best in town.

Tried the Tandori chicken lovely. Hot food is really good and sausage sandwiches for breakfast have also been reasonable in the past. We have had business lunches which are also of good quality. Does get busy during lunch hour.

Can't believe they now charge 30p for paying with your contactless card for purchases under £3.50 which 99% of their sandwiches cost under. The whole point of contactless is to make smaller purchases quick and hassle free and avoid the old sur charges on normal debit cards. Laughable that each contactless payment can cost you 30p or in my case 15% of the transaction. Plenty other places that don't do this.

Always fresh and with generous fillings, these bespoke sandwiches/baguettes/salads cost around £3-ish and are great! Even when there's a queue, it moves along quickly and their corporate catering is the best there is. There's some seating at a breakfast bar type, but no tables. Everything is fully customisable so you can have exactly what you want rather than having to pick bits off.

I've used Montys for business lunches a few times now and never been disappointed. The food is freshly prepared, delicious and great value! My visiting colleagues imagined the cost to be considerably more than it actually was... Aggie and her team maintain very high standards and this should be your "Go to" choice!

Great fresh salads and wraps/sandwiches its my go to lunch veneue when working in Birmingham.They also do a mean roast pork carvery (take away) with stuffing n apple sauce.Good value for money

Ordered around 60 breakfast sandwiches for a whole office and the Monty's staff had all of these prepared and ready for us to collect at half nine on a busy morning. All the sandwiches were still hot and fresh and everyone said how delicious they were! Wonderful staff and excellent food.

It probably is the best place to get a take away lunch in Birmingham, nothing is on the shelf, everything is freshly made in front of you.It gets very busy and the queuing system is a little confusing the first time you go.The service is very quick and the prices are very reasonable.

Come here most days, chicken avocado sandwich is really nice. Well worth the wait for fresh food. Dint be put off by the long queue

I hate buying my lunch as so many staff in sandwich shops in this district don't wear gloves and I'm worried about hygiene. I was delighted to find that they all wear gloves in Montys. There was a queue but it went down quickly although it's not clear immediately that there is a separate hot food queue until someone pushed in front of me. I had the special of Mexican chicken with rice and peas and guacamole. Very nice. Followed it up with their cornflake cake which I found to be very dry and not very chocolatey. I will be back. It nearly got 4 stars.

Working in Birmingham we regularly order breakfast sandwiches from Monty's. They are always quick to answer the phone and very friendly. Seemingly once they take your order they throw it in the bin and give you whatever is to hand. For the second time in two orders I have been given the wrong sauce on my sandwich and i have been forced to endure sickly sweet ketchup with my bacon.

Monty's is a regular go to for me when lunching. My favourite would be the pulled pork baguette with all the trimmings.. even treating myself to some crackling! Today however, i arrived at Monty's feeling unwell and naturally sorry for myself. The owner gave me EXTRA pork crackling and even made me smile which has absolutely helped with the day i am having!! Cannot thank them enough!! Excellent food, excellent service, and excellent prices!

I dont eat meat, so at work when they order breakfast sandwiches i either have veggie sausage or just egg. Today i went with cheese and tomato toasty. When opened, i found HAM instead of Tomato, not the end of the world as i can just pick it off, but i want to make a point that you only make sandwiches for a living, its not rocket science. And if i really wanted to be picky (which i dont), the bread was not cut equally down the middle.

Thanks Monty's - been searching for a decent lunch place for a few weeks, in my view Philpotts has seriously gone down hill and is way over priced and slow. You are a breath of fresh air despite a queue out of the door you get served very fast, the food is varied and just got back to work to discover, it's delicious! So much nicer than than all of the chains and I love your cute branding, you do indeed 'know your opinions'

Whenever I come here for a sandwich or wrap, I always have a great lunchtime meal. Even when they are very busy at lunchtime, the staff all work had and always produce yummy food. Thumbs up from me :-)

I ordered 2 crusty toast this morning but when I got to work I found I had been served up "warm bread" it was in no way crusty and it was not even cooked. This has to be the worst toast I have ever been served.

First the positive... really nice cakes / slices at a decent price. The negative ... quality of ingredients isn't very good. Very stodgy cheap tasting bread.Meagre slice of cheese on cheese sandwiches. What i cant atand is staff have one dirty rag each that they just loosely wipe their knives down with between sandwiches... and it doesn't get changed. So that yummy cloth has the remnants of everything from butter to egg, to chicken, to ham, to prawn mayonnaise, to peanut butter to any other ingredient they wipe there from dozens of sandwiches. Then that knife goes in the peanut butter jar, for example. Ugh. Not great for vegetarians or people bothered about cleanliness. Surely it's not too much to ask to properly clean a knife each time with a clean paper towel for example.

To say that I had a pleasant experience would be an understatement, the attitude of the staff was brilliant and this was during the busy lunch period when they were rushed off their feet. The staff advised me what would and would not be suitable for my diet as I only eat halal food, and the selection available was amazing. I left there with a smile on my face and to top it off my salad tasted awesome! Will be making them my lunch time regular :-)

The Food quality is good but their service from the staff is very inconsistent. If you order a salad box which is £4, and ask them to add checken, some staff will add it using the measuring cup which is fine, but some add it without measuring cup and there is one staff member, he always adds without measuring and very little quantity even you pay full price for it. I asked him to add bit more chicken and he ignored my request. Not worth it due to poor inconsistent service.

Don't be taken in by the £1.50 sausage baguette offer! The sausages they use are disgusting and not worth the cost. The manager also cleartly has a problem understanding inflation as these baguettes cost only £1.10 last year. A 40p price hike for no improvement isn't right.

These guys seem to have nailed it operationally with a small army preparing sandwiches & salads to order. I originally went in there because there was a queue out the door at lunchtime, so as a typically British person I thought I should join it..The queue moves really fast, you're never waiting more than 2 minutes. I always get a salad which costs just under a fiver. About what it should for decent quality ingredients. Happy to have found somewhere you can get something good & healthy for lunch.

I've been here once or twice for a quick lunch and while I can't deny the food is good, it isn't worth the cost IMO. Furthermore, the queuing system is awful and they don't accept card payments below £5 without a charge. It's 2015, I haven't seen a place that charges for minimum card payments in years.

My partner recommended Monty's as its near her place of work. It's a diversion for me but boy is it worth it. The shop itself is spotless, the staff - of which there are plenty - are really friendly and they have a great system going. The food itself is lovely and fresh. I've only tried the breakfast options so far and look forward to trying more!

I walk a little bit of a distance to get to Monty's and pass a few places that are more convenient. I go as often as I can because I know that I will always have a sandwich that I will enjoy. It made freshly, in front of me, and I can say what I want on it. The only problem I have is choosing what to have. Lovely food, excellent service, ALWAYS HAPPY. Keep up the good work.

I use Monty's a great deal for my own sandwiches and have always enjoyed them. I suggested that we use them to supply the catering for a small seminar at work. I was so pleased that I recommended them.They sent us a very well presented buffet menu and the organiser chose from those. Our seminar had about 30 people and EVERYONE commented how nice that the food was. One of my colleagues now is a Monty's regular too.My manager was thrilled with the service and the price. I earned the brownie points.!!!!

started using this place a couple of years ago when I first started working in Birmingham. The last time I reviewed Monty's gave it a five. The food, service and staff were excellent. Unfortunately, I never seen a place go downhill so quickly. Yesterday I bought a bacon and sausage sandwich and asked for mustard. Got back to the office and open up sandwich to discover had about a whole pot of mustard on my sandwich. so much mustard the bread fell apart. could not eat it as so disgusting. How the hell did the person who made this not realise how bad this was. A few months ago Montys was completely re-furbished. I assume thias coat more than expected. All the previous pleasant hard working staff have seemed to be replaced by foreign staff that are either too stupid or lazy to speak or listen properly in English.

Love the variety for sandwiches and we use them for our business lunches. One thing that was a little disappointing was the jerk chicken and rice which was bland there is something for everybody

This place is so popular, it's our number one place to go for lunch. You can have any sandwich, and customise it however you like with a vast range of sandwiches to choose from if you can't choose. My guilty pleasure is the carver lunch sandwich. Freshly carved pork with stuffing apple sauce and gravy, always with crackling if you ask ;) the staff are so friendly. Things run out fast here. So very yummy.

Very clean premises, really friendly staff who would happily amend your order to your taste and a great selection of food. Service is surprisingly fast.

Monty's provides the best freshly made sandwiches in Birmingham, in fact I can't think of anywhere else that can beat them that I have encountered on my travels.The BLTs are just perfect.

Have purchased my lunch from here for the past 12 months. In my opinion, this is by far the best sandwich deli in the city centre, excellent food at reasonable prices. The hot and cold counters are fantastic, produce is always fresh, especially the salads and portions are generous. The sandwiches are made fresh, and you have a wide choice of fillings and sauces to choose from.The staff are amazing, always very polite and hard working.A sign of its popularity are the queue's outside at lunchtime; only downside is the wait at peak times, but this is a small price to pay.Try it, you will not be disappointed!

The best thing about working so close to montys is that in December the add hot turkey sandwiches to the menu. Yummmmmyy. The only down point is that today's was not quite cooked enough and was still a little pink.

Montys may not make the cheapest sandwich I have ever bought but the Cajun Chicken on brown bread with mayonnaise and peppers was probably one of the best. Although the queue was long I was served quickly and politely with the sandwich being made in front of me

Working in Birmingham there are so many places to get breakfast and sandwiches but Monty's beats them all. The food here is fantastic and for a very good price. Ok so it's not as cheap as buying something from perhaps some of the cheaper baguette places but the quality of the ingredients is very high and I would recommend the sausage and bacon sandwich for a Friday morning treat at £2.80. Plenty of good quality bacon and lots of sausage. This back street sandwich bar is not rated highly enough and the staff do a very good job. I will keep visiting time and time again.
