The place is beautiful and the staff is very friendly. We booked our reservation in advance and we were able to have plenty of time. We tried the full Scottish breakfast, so delish and perfect size to try the best of the Scottish cuisine. Highly recommend the option with English breakfast and pressed orange juice. My friend tried the French toast dish and it was also delicious.

Meeting up with friends. Food was expensive and distinctly average. Everything was bland and underseasoned. We found the atmosphere very noisey. Left and had dessert elsewhere.

Very poor and very expensive, average pub grub, rather than quality food that you would expect at this well established venue. Standards have clearly slipped. Disappointing fish and chips, tiny and overcooked. A national pub chain with numbers on the table is better. Sadly friends at the celebration also agreed. After taking food order, the staff were only interested in selling more drinks. I remember this establishment from many years ago when the food was really good. Come on management, sharpen up.

We popped here while visiting a friend who had recently moved here. We easily found a table and ordered our drinks and cake. The coffee was freshly made and a nice blend. The scones were big and served with lots of butter and jam. These certainly hit the spot. The cafe was a lovely local spot to while the time away catching up with friends.

Greta brunch on a Sunday morning, but. Not enough staff to cope with a full restaurant. We had to wait 20 minutes to order and before our food was finished we were presented with a bill and told that the next booking was waiting. Not good enough. The food however was good.

Had brunch here today - was excellent. Good food, decent value and excellent friendly service. Reserved last night at 11pm - good job because people were being turned away this morning. Packed and a bit noisy but with a great ambience, good menu and reasonable prices (for Bruntsfield). Had the Monty at 10.95 which was a full fry up but also included OJ, coffee and toast which made it excellent value. Others had the pancake stack with bacon, maple syrup and scrambled eggs. All the food was tasty. Definitely be back.

Came for brunch solely based on Google recommending it first. If this is the best brunch in Brunsfield then I suggest looking in other suburbs. When paying good money for breakfast I'd expect something more than I could slap up myself in ten minutes at home. Literally nothing on the plate is house made. Even the heating up of the various supermarket-quality components is hit and miss - undercooked tomatoes and toast, overdone eggs, lukewarm canned beans. Make an effort to be more than just a location.

We enjoyed cocktails and dinner here served by an enthusiastic waitress who explained the daily specials and served us efficiently. There was a good range of dishes on offer, including some sharing plates and an effort was made to provide several vegan options, although unfortunately this did not extend to dessert too. Nice ambience, not a cheap place but convenient for the centre of Edinburgh.

Christmas Eve trip with family was really good. Food, drinks and service all good. Probably my favourite bar/restaurant place in Edinburgh. Always a decent atmosphere with a mixed crowd and not pretentious! Good value food and drinks.

Locale molto bello e carino, quando siamo arrivati era stra pieno di avventori del posto ( mi sono accorta solo dopo che erano tutti nella zona Pub) siamo arrivati verso le 18,30 e abbiamo chiesto di poter cenare, eravamo gli unici per la cena( arrivati qui per caso, Hotel a due passi)...Il menu' era molto variegato con tante scelte e diverse tipologie di piatti.

Came for brunch, lovely atmosphere and surrounding to eat in. Can't fault it at all. Food was really good quality and plenty of it and for the prices to include tea/coffee and orange juice and toast you really can't complain! I had the Full Monty which was top notch.

The environment is very good, a nice place to have a brunch and hang out with friends. The price is very reasonable and the food is good. What impressed me most is the coffee. My friend ordered a flat white and I had a Latte, both of them are so good and smooth. But the fruit scone today is a little dry for us. Will definitely go again!

Came here with a large group for a Christmas dinner. We were served efficiently and attentively. Food was really nice and above average for a Christmas dinner. Pleasant atmosphere.

Started coming here when we lived in Edinburgh well over 20 years ago, and try and come back when back. Met family and friends for breakfast, booked ahead as it's always very busy and certainly was on Saturday. Although extremely busy, the service was quick and efficient. There were six different breakfast which were all excellent. My breakfast tortilla of beans, eggs and cheese was really good. A slight mix up with one order but that was rectified very quickly. I have read some comments on how expensive the food is, but that's definitely not my view. Will be back in February.

Chose Montpelier's as it offers a vegan option which didn't disappoint, possibly the best vegan burger you'll have. The Aberdenn Angus burger was good to but overall the meal was rather pricey particularly the wine. As others have said it is noisey so if you're after a quiet meal go elsewhere.

What I got was... a bowl of stew (like my mum used to male) in a small soup bowl and a thin layer of pastry draped over the top. I have often passed by this busy and popular establishment but yesterday I went in! It is well laid out with lots of space. My first impression is that it could become a regular haunt for us. We had a good meal with coffee and wine at a very reasonable price. The staff were pleasant and helpful. It also has a vegan menu.

Used to eat here a lot when lived in the area but not planning to go back. Just been for a family meal and left feeling very disappointed and overcharged. Couldn't order steak or anything chargrilled as grill not working, bland Thai curry, more carrots in steak pie than anything else and fish was like a half portion. Staff friendly and welcoming and restaurant looks lovely but meal well below par and not value for money.

Lovely welcoming bistro with outstanding draught beer selection (29 on tap claimed). Menu is well balanced with very friendly staff providing the kind of service you want to pay for.

Went with friends to Montpeliers for Sunday brunch and had a great time. The restaurant had a really nice vibe and the wait staff were friendly and helpful.

I live in Bruntsfield, so this is an ideally located place for me. Myself and my flatmates are regulars for brunch, and its great value for lovely food. I have only ever visited for breakfast/lunch, and would recommend booking as it is very popular and always busy. Highly recommend the Full Monty for breakfast (only £10 for a LOT of food), and the coffee is always lovely too. Will be back soon!

Very busy place had to wait 20 minutes for a table so had high hopes. All day menu means there's quite a good choice. My partner had the full breakfast which was nothing special. Tattie scone was soggy. Not high quality ingredients. I had the steak and ale pie which was a very thin watery stew with a pastry lid, not sure what type of pastry it was supposed to be... meat was nice to be fair. Disappointed so didn't risk pudding.

We enjoyed our meals and drinks at this lively restaurant. We had starters, main course and dessert. Food was tasty and good looking. Red wine was good and there were lots of different beer options. Good service. This restaurant will not dissapoint you.

This is a fun place with a great interior - and it is always busy!!! Be patient tho they have a quick turn around and we haven't been forgotten about once. The food is tasty and there are lots of drinks to pick from. They also have some weekly deals we are good for a mid-week stop by.

We've had a couple of meals here. We had a hearty breakfast and evening meal. All have been super. Service is always second to none. Also if you appreciate a good americano, this is the place to get it. Thanks.

Being locals, we dine in Montpeliers regularly. We have had breakfast, lunch and dinner in the restaurant many times and it has never let us down. I have developed a particular affection for the place after the last year or so as the staff have gone above and beyond to accommodate us. I was pregnant last year and the staff went out of their way on each visit to make me comfortable and adhere to my stricter diet! Once baby was born, they accommodated myself, husband and baby during busy lunch shifts where we had dropped in on the off chance of there being a table for us. Now baby is a bit older, the staff regularly squeeze my husband and I in during busy evening sittings when we haven't booked but need a night off! It is rare to regularly go to a restaurant and get consistently excellent and friendly service - I can not speak highly enough of the Montpeliers staff! The food is also consistently good, we know we'll always get an excellent plate of food at Montpeliers. I have been meaning to leave a review for a while to praise this excellent establishment. We will continue to frequent the restaurant and recommend it to friends and family.

During our 5 day stay in Edinburgh we have been looking forward to going to Montpellier’s after seeing the menu and pictures. Got there around 4pm which was intended to be an early dinner for us. We were told that we had to be finished by 5:30pm and throughout the meal I heard the server come up and tell another couple this as they enjoyed some drinks. This made us feel rushed as we ate our meal as we ended up clockwatching. The drinks were on the pricey side but not outrageous. The food was nice and the 2 meals for £12 deal was good value.

Montpeliers was a positive recommendation from the landlady of our accommodation.

Booked up for a lunch date with wife as we are looking to go out at least once a month for a meal. Montpeliers has a deal for two main courses for £12.50 but as we could not agree on two mains we went to standard menus. Food it what I would call pub grub but we both enjoyed our meals. I had a a steak sandwich and Natalie a burger. Not fine dining but a really nice with good service. I quite fancied the cheeseboard but maybe too much at lunchtime.
