Monte Cafe & Restaurant in Southend-on-Sea

This is an interesting place with an menu. It's a Cafe which opens for breakfast and goes through to the evening with a range of superb Portuguese main meals. All very reasonable prices and excellent quality!

One of the best meals I've had in months. Great espresso martini. The staff was very helpful, knowledgeable and friendly, and I would recommend the chef's dessert taster. In my case, I was introduced to 2 new desserts I never would have ordered before, but definitely will in the future. Lovely atmostphere and ambience. well worth the experience.

As an English person who's been eating Portuguese food for over 30 years the food at montes is stunning, the octopus was amazing, Portuguese food in a Portuguese setting beautiful!! Thank you Suzane for looking after us EXCELLENT 5 star service (the pictures of cod and octopus are half portions)

I ordered food through Uber Eats, and it was a terrible experience. The chicken was undercooked, the potatoes were raw, and the portion of rice was very small. It's ridiculous to charge £3.75 extra for such a tiny portion of rice! I expected much better quality and will not be ordering from here again.

The most amazing authentic Portuguese food. I had a wonderful fish and seafood skewer. Such a treasure in Southend.

Visited with some work colleagues for a birthday lunch and we had a fab time. We were served by Maria and Susana and both were attentive, polite and always smiling. The food was absolutely delicious! I had the half francasinha as I knew that this was a very filling dish and I still felt really full afterwards. My two colleagues also struggled o finish their food. The portion sizes are such good value for the price paid. The desserts are also homemade - we had the flan which been made only that morning - really delicious. They heard we had a birthday on the table and so one of the flans came with a candle and the staff sang happy birthday - so nice of them to go this extra mile.

Always good, however the delivery had compressed one box containing oil & arrived dripping.

I chose 1 serving of picanha £14.95 very poor service but fries came to the table and 1 serving of Alentejo pork only 3 clams had the insides the rest were shells £14.95 I won't go back to this restaurant one of the worst restaurants I've visited in 8 years living in the UK.

The food was really tasty. This is not the first time we ordered from there and will continue to order. Sadly today there was some small problems with the food . In the big breakfast the bacon was missing , and the salad had cucumbers (we requested without, at least this is a preference rather than an allergy)

Tasty food, could do with being hotter when delivered but otherwise a tasty breakfast all through

I like the omelettes a lot and order every time. The best thing is the taste is just right, not too salty or spiced too much, so it feels more like having a meal with a family. Prices are also reasonable, they increased a bit but still offer better value than some other cafes.

food increase price £5.00 portions where to small rice , chips and salad very smal portion due this dish its for two people and the portion was not enough for one person . i am very opset after 5 years of good service they are serving people very bad . Regards

Easy to find on the main london road in to Southend almost opposite the Sainsbury's store . Friendly service . Good value we had a breakfast & a toastie coffee & juice & sat at the front of the cafe , chairs and tables outside . Menu had some lovely looking food which will return and try . Portuguese provisions food stuffs available to buy & take home . Delta coffee served which I bought a bag of to take home ..

Monte is always first class when it comes to the quality of their food and it's always delivered piping hot & early. Excellent!

Always pop in for sausage egg and chips when I'm in the area. I gave it 4* as the last time I went the front of house lady was a little miserable and also not dog friendly establishment. Please try there sausages they are such good quality and I've found out they also own a butcher's 😊 near the airport.

I'm not a particular fan of Portuguese food but my wife and friends are and they enjoyed the fish and meat dishes they had (apologies for no names or descriptions ) which all come from a deceptively large kitchen compared to front of house space. It usually has a lot of Portuguese speaking customers so the food must be authentic. They are licenced and offer a decent selection of booze and there is a small deli area selling Portuguese dry goods and cakes. This place has quickly become a favourite of mine.

Lovely restaurant, very close to the ocean. So I can imagine in the summer most be amazing to go for a walk. Amazing food, autentic Madeirense! Perfect parking (right in front of it). Definitely recommend and definitely will be back.

Monte Cafe & restaurant always serve top quality food. Their hamburgers are so smokey & delicious, like they've just come off of the bbq & their roast chicken is not only excellent tasting but fantastic value for money. I highly recommend them & have been going back to them since my first order.

Small but amazing! The staff are very friendly and the food is to die for. Every time I have visited, the staff couldn’t of been any more helpful, the food is authentic and delicious (recommend the pastel de nata’s, they’re fresh and still warm in the morning/lunchtime!) Highly recommend.

The food was nice the eggs weren’t great bit over cooked and they forgot the maple syrup on the pancakes the menu is great though deffo going to pay the restaurant a visit and the custard tart was amazing! Thanks

I've lost count of how many times we've been here now. The food is absolutely amazing and such great value for money! The staff are amazing and always make an effort with our baby! Can't recommend enough!!

Great food only minor issue was where it says bottle of Coke I thought it was goin g to be a big bottle however it was just a small 500ml one but food was great and service was good, food arrived hot and very tasty portion sizes were great too will deffo order from here again

First time at this place and were not disappointed. We had feancesinha and burger for a kid. The staff is really friendly, didn't take too long to serve the food and affordable prices. Also bought a few things from their shop which is inside the café. Definitely we would come back.

We used visit this restaurant some times. We love it, the food is excellent, the staff is very friendly, so a good site to go with friends or family and enjoy.

The restaurant came highly recommended by my sister and her boyfriend, who is Portuguese. Great quality food - I recommend the chorizo and I couldn’t get enough of the sardine pâté - the bread was fantastic too! Mains were great; my sister had the surf and turf skewer which was cooked just perfectly. Lovely atmosphere and super friendly staff too. Will be coming back - looking forward to try the bacalhâo a braz ASAP. All washed down with a nice glass of vinho do porto. Muito obrigado!

Nothing was on the plate, all the hot chocolate spilt everywhere not happy, couldn’t even eat the food!

We went in thinking it was your run of the mill cafe, but walked out really impressed with the quality of the food. Absolutely loved it and will be back for sure 🙂

Wouldn’t order from here anymore. When I first order here it was disgusting, my partner wanted to give them a second chance & it wasn’t that bad. This time the food was so disgusting I throw it away because it tasted funny. Don’t recommend anyone to eat here. Save your money

Staff extremely helpful andfriendly. Closest thing we have found to authentic Portuguese (Madeiran) food in UK. Food is homemade so fresh, genuine and authentic. All cooked fresh, and bread home made Some dishes Angloised for commercial reasons ( English breakfast/ pasta/omelette) but I would recommend trying one of the Portuguese dishes or the daily specials. Caldo Verde was soup of day when we went, extremely good.

Best cafe in Southend without a doubt if you don't believe me give it a go! £16 for 2 fry ups a cup of tea and milkshake wasn't too shabby.

I travel around 25 miles to get to this place as the food is simply the best I've had in the UK from a Portuguese restaurant. The service is also quite quick and the workers are really pleasant.

Hi, today I order a delivery and I'm sad because I waitting more than 40 min and the food arrived cold! I call for restaurant and they said driver confirm the order but don't pick up. This put me upset because we paid for delivery. :(

I always do my best to visit this lovely restaurant at least once in a month, or just to escape the fast paced London but to remind me of the traditional food back home, Madeira. Food has an excellent price, always fresh and quite happy with the portions. The restaurant has also a little supermarket where you can find from the traditional pastries to the coffee and Portuguese sauces. This is a family owned business and you can tell that by the heart warming service. Never disappointed, always exceeds my expectations!!!

Such a welcoming atmosphere and the food was absolutely amazing. I had chicken chorizo as main and my fiancee had fish kebabs. I can't tell you enough how amazing the service and place was. I would highly recommend it if you are down this way. One of best restaurants we have visited in a long time.
