Used Monton Elm for years . Although fantastic venue and usually lovely food I had a bad experience with the beer battered cod which was very overcooked, a small amount of chips and a low quality tub of peas . Such a shame this visit and probably just a glitch in the kitchen . No I didn't complain and just making a point to give feedback on what is usually great food.

There are now more garden centers than butchers shops so they must be doing something right. This one is one of the better ones we've visited for several reasons. Ample parking was a good start, the car park, shop and outside areas ( including cafes , yes there are two ! Were all very clean ) I was after a specific plant and the assistance given was excellent, not only did the assistant know the plant but also the varieties they had, he also took me to them. My wife has some mobility issues but the outside area was well paved and mainly flat this really helps, she felt very safe when walking and this made her experience much better than other Garden centres than go for the stoned / uneven external paths. We had coffee and cake and I must add the coffee was excellent, we didn't have a meal but many did and the food looked really well prepared, the Sunday lunch seems very popular. My only negative was when coming to pay, The individual on the till was soooo miserable ! A smile costs nothing and a little conversation (when spending some £150 ) helps the pain a little. Cost isn't the issue it's my choice what I buy but some customer interaction would be welcome, and so would a smile.

We visited the restaurant Sunday 9 June 2024 at lunchtime and my self and my husband had the ham, egg, chips and peas which was definitely worth the money but one thing puzzled me was when looking at the menu why does everyone have to pay £2 for a yorkshire pudding which I thought came as standard as part of a roast dinner. This unfortunately put us off ordering the roast.

Just had a Sunday lunch and have to say that we were disappointed. Not at the quality but the quantity especially as the price has gone up. Menu stated that choice of meats came with roast potatoes, carrots and parsnips, seasonal vegetables and gravy. I literally got half a roasted carrot and a very small amount of spring greens/ Savoy cabbage. As I said, what we got was good quality but I at least expected to get what was advertised on the menu. We have had numerous Sunday lunches before and have always received a selection of vegetables and a Yorkshire pudding. Now if you want cauliflower cheese or a Yorkshire pudding ( unless you have the beef) you have to pay extra. I know the cost of living has gone up but that is ridiculous. I would have preferred more vegetables and less roast potatoes ( I had four).

Been to the restaurant a few times over the last couple of years and not had a great meal yet...thought we'd give it another try today. No more... we both had jacket potato with coronation chicken - the potatoes were only just warm and because the coronation chicken had come straight from the fridge and was cold, it made the potato even colder! Won't be bothering anymore!

The restaurant has changed its menu, prices have increased, the offering is very different and not entirely suitable for the type of client that uses it. I must echo the previous review here. We had a similar experience. Just offering something vegan does not solve the issue! What planet are they on! Fried tomatoes are the killer for Crohn's disease (which I suffer from). It is simple maths - you remove one item and most places will happily just add another for free. How can it delay?! Even ME below admit the service would be "even" slower. You can see the staff serve the breakfast selecting items. How would it slow things?! If it does, you have your processes all to pot! For goodness sake, just get the basics right and for breakfast items offer a replacement! All 3 other similar cafe's in Taunton do it! We turned to a review as we waited 40 minutes on Saturday on a simple sandwich!

Been going to the cafe for years but it has really gone down hill. Went to swap a breakfast item (dietary needs) and usually did free this free but now get charged £1.50 for removing an item and adding another! Also slow service. Outstanding garden centre! The variety and quality is amazing. Recently visited with family on a Sunday afternoon maybe wanting to stop for a small bite to eat when we noticed they were serving a full roast! Looking at the other plates of roasts coming out the kitchen they looked incredible We couldn’t resist so all opted for the roast apart from my partner who is coeliac ( we will have to pre order in advance for her next time) we were all very impressed the meat was wonderfully tender, roast potatoes were beautiful and a great variety of vegetables cooked perfectly! We will definitely be back! Not to mention all waiting staff were very attentive and diligent with our coeliac guest.

I took my mum to the cafe for afternoon tea at £16 each. The sandwiches were nice, egg mayonnaise with cress, why do places think we all like cress, it’s horrible. There was salmon and cucumber which I didn’t eat as I don’t like cucumber and ham and mustard which was more mustard seeds than anything else. The scones were lovely and warm. The cakes were ok apart from what I assume was a rhubarb posset which came in one glass which we were told we had to share. Asking people to share a desert is just not on, it’s not hygienic. Nice setting and friendly staff. Lots to look at in the garden centre and good parking.

Bought a large Monstera houseplant for my wife for Christmas for £110. Didn’t notice a yellow leaf until I got home which I wasn’t too concerned about at first. The soil was damp when I bought it so only watered twice in the 3 and a bit weeks I’ve had it. It started looking more and more sick quickly and I soon realised it had root rot. Went back to Monkton elm and showed them the pictures and explained that I believed the plant wasn’t well when I bought it. The response was it’s our policy to only give a 14 day return on houseplants so no exchange offered. Really poor service, been going there for years and spent a lot of money. Won’t be going back.
