A very well run restaurant thanks to General Manage Dominique. She genuinely cares about all her customers and goes out of her way to ensure you get what you want and there is no compromise. The staff there are hard working and honest. When it comes to recommending food on the menu they know what they are talking about. That helps.Jade Wunde has been consistent in the way she carries out her waitress role. More restaurants today could do with people like her.Leon is helpful and never complains about the long hours he works and I have been observing him for many months and he offers the same friendly service always. The food is great and this is my first ever review on line as I generally don't come across a menu that matches the quality of the staff. Staff that have left who have really made a difference to my experience at that restaurant over the past year are Jacob Wilson, an outstanding deeply caring chef and hard working manager Christiana and outstanding waitress Jessica Pelamatti. This review is in deep appreciation to all those mentioned.

I have been to Monkey Nuts in Whetstone a few times now and have never been disappointed with the food or the high levels of customer service. The beef short ribs in particular are fabulous, slow cooked for six hours, the meat just falls off!! The atmosphere in the restaurant is always light and airy with very friendly staff. In particular, I would like to mention a couple of staff members called Jade and Dominique whose customer service is well beyond the call of duty, with nothing being too much trouble.

Another fantastic evening at Monkey Nuts. We thought we would go and suss out the new menu as we were invited to try it out. We had the Mac n cheese pops for starters which were delicious then the BBQ Jerk chicken and the Rockin' health nut salad and salmon with plenty of sweet potato fries. Both were tasty and the chicken portion was generously sized. The service was friendly as always and appropriately attentive. We look forward to coming back again soon!

Great staff and atmosphere. Superb food. Visited with my brother. Was served straight away... I ordered a Green Day smoothie- which was amazing plus super healthy. My brother had a big cappuccino. I also ordered the Bubble Royale and it was also outstanding. My brother ordered a new dish on the menu- the fish & chips, taco. He was asked what he thought of it as it was something they were trying out. The curry mayo on his dish was delightful. We have been here a few times now. Every time has been lovely and great food that has been careful thought about. Good value for money- the bill came to just under £30. I will be going again.

Okay so went to Monkey Nuts out of curiosity as it looks great from the outside. First of all massively over priced a starter, drinks and mains for 2 was £60 whilst I don't have a problem with this for the quality of the food certainly not worth it. The food was okay but nothing to write home about. In the interests of fairness I must say the chips were fantastic. Further to this it is so loud in there. With the combination of the staff shouting at each other and the overly loud background music I could not even hear the person sitting next to me.

The service was friendly but there was some confusion over who was waiting at our table as we were asked for our order twice. We both had sirloin steak which was very average. The portions were small. The bill, however, was not! I don't object to paying above average prices for good quality food but Monkeynuts was not up to scratch. I definitely will not be going back.

We dropped in for a quick steak the initial service was good but a bit confused the food was ordinary with tiny portions. I've been here a couple of times. The four of us went today for lunch. We all had different meals; burgers, hot dogs & jerk chicken, preceded with a few starters. The food was okay at best, the all day brunch burger was by far the best choice. If I go again, I will stick to the burger. The cocktails were a little hit and miss and took ages to come out.The best part of the meal was the chocolate brownie. It was a huge piece of moist, chocolatey goodness. The service is chaotic, nobody talks to each other so you end up being delivered the same drinks twice/asked for your order twice/brought the bill twice by different staff. Although they obviously think it's good service seeing as they whack on 12.5%!All in all its an okay place for lunch but I won't be rushing back.

Hubby and I have been meaning to visit Monkey Nuts for a while and wish we'd gone earlier. It was busy on the day we visited but just slowing down. The service was attentive and pleasant throughout. I ordered a burger which although took a long time to come was worth it: tasty, moist and piled high. The chips were lovely too. For lunch it was quite expensive but we were happy to pay the bill as the food was quality, fresh and hot and the service was good. The artwork dotted around is really interesting and eye catching and worth a second glance.

This was our first time at this restaurant and had booked a table for four people on Saturday night. When we arrived there was somebody outside talking on their phone - it turned out they were the 'meeter and greeter' so when they came back in they pointed to where we should go and sit - couldn't be bothered to actually take us there! Our table was practically touching the table for two next to us so we may as well have been a table for six!The menu is mixed and doesn't give any clues as to what type of restaurant this is - nor does the name of it - but we all found something to order. One of the starters ordered was the chicken wings - when the waitress was asked if the blue cheese dip could be swapped for a bbq dip her immediate response was 'no' - we did manage to convince her that we didn't think it would be a big issue with the kitchen so she eventually agreed. When they arrived they absolutely reeked of vinegar and weren't pleasant at all. The other starters were edamame beans, calamari and the halloumi skewers which were all OK.For main course we ordered two chicken fajitas - and played 'hunt the chicken' - it was basically some veg and two pieces of chicken in a very sloppy sauce, salmon which was a bit dry and steak frites, the steak was OK, the chips were soggy and it would have been better to have had less chips and served a vegetable with the meal instead. We had a side order of creamed spinach which turned out to be spinach with melted cheese on top which was revolting and a side salad. We didn't bother with dessert. We were surprised to see that 12.5% service had been added to the bill - the service really wasn't good enough to demand that.

My partner and I have been to Monkeynuts three times now so I thought it was due a review! This time was definitely the best, so thank you to the waitresses that made our evening, we think Kris and Jess were their names. We had the calamari starter to share followed by the BBQ jerk chicken (delicious) and he had the ribs followed by the cookie dough skillet dessert to share at the end. All were delicious and generous portions. We were delighted to be swept into the quieter table in the corner while there were two large rowdy parties in and the waitresses were kind enough to put our order in first to save us the wait! We will be coming back again soon no doubt. Not 5 stars as agreed with others on here, 12.5% gratuity is sometimes deserved but it doesn't seem right when food and service is not always consistent.

For a local restaurant we felt it was over priced for average food. Service was good, ambience and decor very nice and it's clean but just nothing special. I had a salad which seemed like a load of lettuce and two slabs of halloumi for around £12.95. The entire meal came to £80 for four and two of us were under age 8! The kids had kids' meals, we had one alcoholic drink and two coffees, 2 ice cream desserts no starters. Like I said expensive for basic food. Won't be returning!

I usually eat here 3 or 4 times a month so I thought I'd better write another review (my last one was summer 2015) as they have definitely now ironed out some of their original teething problems.....In summary, I think that Monkey Nuts Whetstone has the best burgers on the High Road (against a lot of competition) and I especially like their special fixed price deals eg burgers at weekday lunchtimes (they sometimes extend this offer to late afternoons / early evenings too), and the early evening 2 course fixed menu. However, Please Note, if you are comparing fixed price deals along the High Road in Whetstone, Monkey Nuts ADD AN ADDITIONAL 12.5% - the other restaurants do NOT charge Service Charge on TOP of the advertised deal. Monkey Nuts management please note: this is is the thing that MOST annoys me about your restaurant...The service is good (it had wrinkles before, but I believe these wrinkles have now been ironed out) and I'd like to pass on my thanks to the managers & waiting people who look after me so well... eg Kristiana, Jessica, Luda, Dominique (many apologies for spelling any names incorrectly, and many apologies to the other staff whose names I can never remember....)

I'm not sure how to categorise this place. Burgers, steaks, some spicy stuff that sounds a bit Mexican, and a Korean hot dog! It is very relaxed; the staff are there in jeans and casual tops. If they didn't come up and ask you for your order you'd think they were regular punters. Food wise I had a deli burger and my colleague some sort of fish goujons. She even had space for what seemed to be a very nice chocolate mousse. Great taste, cooked very well, I've no complaint other than it being a little on the cool side temperature wise. Lunch time, two people, £21 including the automatically added (but optional) service charge. Saves having to work out a tip.

Eaten here so many times, even on my own, food is my life. Often come for the beef ribs which are the best i've ever eaten - you can press the meat off the bone with the fork. They used to do amazing sticky wings but they have come off the menu :-(. Usually the bf and I go monthly for the breakfasts, my favourite being the Pan Magic-fried eggs with feta toast. My fella gets Bubble royale, which I will try next time. The Schnitz burger and schnitzel chicken wasn't very good - a bit dry and boring. BBQ Jerk chicken and sweet potato fries were really nice. Kale, spinach and feta salad was delicious. And on the last visit with my mate we had meals off the set two course menu which was really nice. And I always get a vanilla milkshake. I have unashamedly walked the 15 minutes there and back just for their shakes, they beat every diner and burger bar I visited on my burger mission. Except maybe Chix Chox in Finchley who also do epic vanilla shakes, followed closely by the Diner in Hampden Square, Southgate. Service is usually good and friendly. It does get very busy on peak times and once i got turned away *sheds tear. Plus the decor is quite interesting. If i'm eating in Whetstone I will just go here every time!

The menu is good too, took me a while to order my food, I couldn't choose! I ended up having the all day brunch burger, which was superb. I went there last night for my friends birthday. The noise level was incredible. There were the obligatory out of control brats running around while their parents ignored them, one narrowly missed becoming impaled on my friends steak knife as he tried to force his dad (who was ignoring him) off his chair. Lots of shrieking females too who where so loud and shrill any passing dolphins would have become disoriented. The food is majorly overpriced, we chose the steak as it was the only thing we thought would be decent. It came with skinny chips and if you wanted steak chips you had to pay a supplement of £3. We were asked which sauce we wanted, only to be charged 80p for it!! We had the flat steak which was just that, flat. I kept catching my Thai silk shirt on the chipboard wall. We were charged a service charge too so I will not be returning. A poor choice on the set menu, and generally pretension in a loud environment.

We went for a meal deal between 12 and 8 pm, two courses for £9.95. Sounds like a bargain, but a very limited choice. (there is a supplement of £3 for the steak) Ordered two starters, one had to be replaced because the chef had burnt the last quiche. Two salads which were very wispy and 'light', this was followed by our 'main' which was lemon and herb fish goujons. These were so overcooked that they were inedible, and lacked any flavour or seasoning, so we sent them back. In fairness we were offered the lunch deal by the manager, however by this time we had lost our appetite. When the bill came we were overcharged for both salads (35% of the deal). I think this is what spoiled the whole thing, we should not have been charged for these as the dining experience was cut short. We left with a view to never return to this establishment, also beware of the 'hard sell' which doesn't bode well for a comfortable atmos.

Menu is pretentious, trying to be American style but failing. Over-elaborating simple dishes to make them sound more appealing. Food is average/below average. Was handed a happy hour menu, selected a cocktail off it and was charged full price. It was sneakily included with the happy hour cocktails, and I was told only the ones with a (tiny) monkey symbol next to them were happy hour cocktails. This was really misleading and a bit blatant.

Nice atmosphere and we had a fun night.Food was average.Being coeliac meant same standard food options again (but it was a tasty steak with greens - no fries as even though they say they are are gf, when I checked they actually cook them in the same oil as gluten things). I had to study my gf food options from a separate sheet listing allergies and then cross reference back to the menu again - shame GF is not marked on menu to make it easier!Only gf dessert was ice cream so had to watch everyone with their yummy looking desserts which was disappointing.Would i go back? If I wasn't coeliac then yes but for people who have to be gluten free - I think there are better restaurant options to choose from in Whetstone that offer tastier GF food.

We came here to try the new restaurant, and all I can say it was a terrible experience. The food was terrible, not fresh at all in particular the nachos and the garlic ciabatta. We ordered two salads and a burger and all of it was practically inedible. To add insult to injury the service was below par, they constantly kept coming over to the point it was annoying, and made comments about how little we ate, making us feel all uncomfortable. The service charge was ridiculous, we asked for it to be taken away, but even still a 12.5% service charge is sneaky to add directly to the menu. Will never be going back there again.

Went for a quick English Breakfast. Ordered it with scrambled egg but got it with a fried egg instead. As I do not like that I sent it back. Staff was ok but not really quick. I am surprised they messed up my order even tho we were nearly the only ones in there. Might give it another try but definitely not for breakfast.

The first visit was for breakfast which was great tasting and could not fault it, had a good experience, the food was very tasty. Went last week with the family for lunch, I ordered the Californian fish tacos and got 3 pieces of over seasoned, dried fried fish. The colour made me think they were fried in dirty oil as they were very dark in colour and didn't taste fresh. Not worth the money at all. The other meals was a bit better but not worth the asking price, will not go back there for lunch as there are much better quality restaurant on the high road.

We came here on a Saturday night and only stayed for a brief time because our experience was not great. The nachos were very very simple, with nowhere near enough toppings, no jalapenos, no meat, nothing really interesting about them. We sent them back for more toppings, but this took so long we told them not to bother.I had the ribeye, which at £20 I would have expected to be decent quality. This was sadly not the case. The steak was thin and the peppercorn sauce was tangy. We quickly got the bill and left. I won't be heading back, which is a shame - I was looking forward to this meal and had high hopes whenever I see it this busy.

My friend and i regularly dine out and have been waiting to try Monkey Nuts for a while but every time we called we were unable to get a table. Two days ago we luckily booked for two and managed to get a table. The decor inside was nice and edgy. The waiters friendly. We ordered a couple of starters to share like edamame with soy, chilli & mirin sauce & Cajun spiced calamari (both amazingly tasty) and for mains we both went for the Kale Spinach and Feta salad withavocado, pomegranate, butternut squash, pickled red onions, dates & roasted walnuts with salmon. So filling and so tasty. We both had a tea and a still bottle of water. The bill came to £53.00 which was quite good. We will definitely return

I happened to be in North London far beyond my usual haunts and fancied a quick breakfast. Not knowing the area I wandered into this restaurant and was greeted by a lovely server who took my coat and seated me. she suggested I try a green juice (five of my five a day we laughed) I ordered a veggie breakfast and was in and out within half an hour. Overall was a pleasant and lovely surprise and should I find myself on these streets again I surely will pop in. Lovely décor, good tunes & a friendly atmosphere!

Popped in for an early dinner after a long day out. Told that if we wanted a table (in a place that had only 5 tables taken) we'd have to be out by 8pm as they were all reserved. That's fine. Due the shortage of perceived time we only ordered mains, much to the surprise and disappointment of the waitress. Some of the drinks arrived in stupid "jars" with handles. Oh my Zeus, why do people think this is a trendy thing to do? Just give me decent glass to drink out of please!!!I had the Chicken Kiev. Normally this means the chicken is stuffed with garlic and parsley butter, but here they just plonk a pat of butter on what effectively is chicken schnitzel. It was ok, but there was one taste in it that didn't marry up with what I was expecting and left an odd taste in my mouth. It may have been a herb or the butter. Like others have pointed out I was annoyed to 12.5% service charge added to the bill automatically. At places like this you usually only see for groups of 8 or more. I'd expect it at a fine dining establishment, but as this is just a local greasy spoon tarted up with wood panelling and few hipster prints, I object and would have requested it's removal had the company I was with not wanted me to make a scene about it. However for 1 course and 3 drinks, this was a very overpriced meal. Shame this replaced the excellent Rotisserie that was here before it.

Have been here twice, first time was okay... the food standard definitely doesn't match the expensive price tag though. Second time we attended was just short of a disaster. My dad and brother went in on a Sunday night to catch a table whilst I parked, a stroppy waitress showed them to a table in the corner and handed out the menus. She never came back, ten minutes later they were still sitting there, not even a drink order was taken. Tried to order some drinks and the waitress was so rude and couldn't be bothered to listen, talked to the manager who was disgustingly rude and literally couldn't care less, she disregarded everything that was said. Terrible customer service, walked straight out and will never come back. The manager didn't even look bothered to be honest.

Burgers are okay, mashed potato cold, lumpy and greasy.Service is either small nervous girls with not much English or a strange smiling lady who never looks you in the eye. I suppose the problem is that a trendy restaurant in sleepy Whetstone doesn't really attract the type of staff to make it a vibrant social experience... it has all the elements of a cool place to go but that only makes the dreary experience more depressing. With average food and barely average ambience, I don't give it long, unfortunately...

We attended this restaurant on Saturday 11th July for a combined celebration of my engagement and my sisters birthday, there were 6 of us. We arrived at 8.50pm and were promptly seated which was great. After siting at our table for a few minutes we were sweating as there was no air conditioning and all the windows were shut ( that evening was a particularly hot one ) as our table was situated in the back middle we couldn't open any windows and didn't want to disturb diners who were seated next to the windows to open them. When the waitress arrived to take our drinks order she was sweet and after taking our order said she would be right back,10 minuets later she arrived with our drinks and apologised for taking so long as the drinks we ordered came in a jar and there were not enough hard so she had to wait for other diners to finish ( not a nice thought as to how they cleaned the jars so quick) When she arrived to take our order we opted to go straight to mains as it was already quite late and we were quite hungry. Once our orders were take (at 9.13pm) the waitress informed us that it would be a while before we receive our food as they are quite busy, we understood and agreed. We stared drinking our lemonade in our jars which was TERRIBLE! It was so sour! We had to ask the waitress for sugar syrup several times as the small amounts she gave us was not enough. After 45 minutes our food arrived. Myself, my fiancé and mother had ordered the rump steak. My steak was small and tick! I had asked for it to be medium to well done and it arrived rare! To the point that my whole plate was red! ( images attached ) I had also ordered peppercorn sauce, which was watered down and had no flavour, half of it was peppercorn seeds and the amount was terrible! Not enough to cover the steak. My fiancé and mums steaks were the same. The chips were stale and hard! If that wasn't bad! My sister who is a vegetarian has ordered a fish wrap thing with avocado, the avocado was HARD! and not edible. When she was not even half was through she bit into her fish and screamed as a sharp piece had penetrated her gum and started to bleed. She couldn't finish her meal due to the discomfort. When our check came I explained to the waitress what had happened and she turned to me and said in a rude manner "Well what do you want me to do?" My mother said we were only informing her of what had happened so that it doesn't happen again to anyone else. She then snatched the receipt from my sister and walked away, upon her return she had taken the veg meal off the receipt. She said if we had a problem with the meal then we should have told her earlier not at the end of the meal again being very rude. We were disgusted with her attitude and dismissal of our complaint. It's fair to say that we will never attended this restaurant again!

This restaurant is reasonably priced but the food is less than average.I had to send my steak back as it wasn't how I ordered it ( asked for medium and it was blue) but I appreciate that steak isn't the easiest to cook to people's preferences. I had to send the pepper sauce back twice - it comes in a tiny pot and the first time it was like water and the second time it was cold. The fried food tastes very greasy. The service wasn't bad but I object to the 12.5% service charge automatically added to the bill as I wouldn't have left a tip that big!Needless to say I won't be returning.

I have eaten here a few times now…… the burgers are delicious and so are the onion rings. I am not too gone on their starters but that is more because I don’t fancy many of them. Their house wine isn’t great, which is a shame as I tend to order wine by the glass as it’s usually only me drinking wine. I agree with some of the other comments that it is expensive for what it is but I will be back because I like the burgers!!

I have to say that the food is ok but the price isn't. £24 for a bottle of average Pinot Blush and £4 for a Corona Beer. £4 for a sparkling water. Seriously? It really isn't necessary to charge these prices for a suburb burger bar and then add 12.5% service charge to bring the good the 15ft from the kitchen. Tonight's service was £25.I've had better burgers and better service but always leave a tip wherever I eat but hate with a passion being obligated to tip. It makes you feel that the waitresses aren't paid a salary. There are hundreds of other burger places to eat and as an example, Dirty Burger wins hands down for a better burger. If you want a great burger and a great atmosphere go to Meat Liquor.

I met friends here for Sunday breakfast. It's a modern vibe type of place with quite a mixed choice on the menu. In general the food was OK but they could have taken a bit of extra care. My breakfast wasn't warm as it was supposed to be. The coffee was below standard - cold and filtered in a very small cup!I also had lunch here 2 months ago with my partner and my salad didn't have as much in it as I was hoping - 4 cubes of avocado it not exactly generous. My partner had a burger which was average and the fries were just OK. I would recommend this place to younger people looking for a casual hang out or for those that just want a quick burger. Staffing could be improved - maybe because it's quite new the waiting staff weren't confident. Not sure.

This is a new branch of Monkey Nuts in Whetstone on the High Road (NOT the original restaurant in Crouch End) - this property is where the Rotisserie used to be.The High Road is really good for lunchtime fixed price deals so I thought I would check out the new restaurant. Monkey Nuts advertise a fixed price menu for £6.95 (Monday ->Friday 12-7pm) for burger and fries, hotdog & fries, etc (see picture of menu if I can get it to attach).I went into the restaurant at lunchtime, asked for the Fixed Price menu, got the fixed price menu, and ordered burger and fries. The burger is not huge (4 oz I think) but tastes great (the best on the High Road in Whetstone in my opinion, and there are a lot of places here that serve good burgers) and the extra bits advertised on the menu (eg slaw, pickles) are just tiny bits placed inside the burger (silly me, I thought I would get a portion of coleslaw on the side). The fries were HORRIFICALLY over-salted the first time I visited the restaurant - second time I went there for lunch, I remembered to ask for NO SALT on the fries.SHOCK - when the bill came they had added 12.5% Service Charge which I thought was a bit cheeky, which raised the price to £7.82 - when I queried this they said that the menu clearly states there will be a 12.5% Service Charge added - NO IT DOESN'T!!! The Fixed Price menu (see photo) does not mention ANY Service Charge (apparently the Service Charge details are in the small print on the main normal menu....).The Service I received was good (the lady manageress looked after me - and she helped me to sit down by moving the table so I could get to my seat - I am disabled...) but I was shocked to see one of the waitresses ignoring a very elderly lady with mobility problems who was struggling for minutes to get to her seat (the tables are very close together in this restaurant).BEWARE ALLERGIES. This restaurant nearly sent me to hospital. I have a serious allergy to Bell Peppers (also known as Capsicums) so I ALWAYS point this out EVERY TIME I eat in a restaurant, even if it is a restaurant that I eat in daily. On my third visit to Monkey Nuts (Whetstone), I ordered the usual burger and fries, again with the very nice lady manageress, and as usual asked about bell peppers and stated my serious allergy.....She said, as usual, no problem as no bell peppers…. Burger turned up and I got stuck in.... They put a bit of coleslaw just under the top of the bun.... BURNING SENSATION in my mouth, and my THROAT started to SWELL UP, and I spat out the mouthful. Fortunately I always carry anti-histamine in addition to an Epi-Pen and two anti-histamine tablets did the trick (throat stopped swelling up) so I didn't have to use my Epi-Pen and go to hospital (I think I didn't actually swallow any of the Yellow Bell Pepper, it was just in my mouth).Called manageress lady over, and she identified tiny slivers of yellow bell peppers in the small portion of coleslaw within the bun. She went off to the kitchen, and came back a couple of minutes later apologising that the chef had updated the coleslaw to 'summer coleslaw' which includes yellow peppers yet the waiting staff were not aware of this.Monkey Nuts - SORT YOUR ACT OUT!! These Allergy situations can be fatal and I've already been rushed to hospital once in my life with anaphylactic shock (fortunately the hospital was close enough to where I was located when I went into shock, hence I am still alive to type this). Anaphylaxis can come on even faster in Children and your chef changing the menu without the waiting staff knowing about it is really dangerous.I'm giving the Service 2/5 - it would have been 5/5 except for the Allergy Issue (minus 2 points) and having to watch the disabled elderly lady customer struggle to sit down whilst a waitress stood there gormlessly not helping (minus 1 point). The food score has also been dropped to 3/5 from 5/5 for the Allergy Issue and the over-salting.HOW do I add a photo of the Fixed Price Menu to this Review??
