The room was quite nice, though as is typical of a room in an older house there were a couple of flights of stairs - we wished that our luggage was lighter. The only (minor) flaw with the room was the location of the toilet paper dispenser - almost right behind the toilet. Dinner was very nice with one glaring exception - the potatoes that accompanied my delicious steak were woefully undercooked, so much so that they were impossible to cut. The location, the surroundings are all incredible..

A group of friends and I cycled down to the Monachyle Mhor hotel for lunch. The ride down the quiet country road is simply glorious with fabulous views of Loch Voil and the surrounding hills. The hotel itself occupies a simply stunning location, slightly elevated on the hillside with an amazing 180° panorama of what makes Scotland so special. We were blessed with superb weather and sat outside, enjoying the sunshine and the views. Brian and his team looked after us impeccably, striking a perfect balance of attentive service but never making us feel rushed in any way. After a few hours on the bikes we were content to relax, enjoy some cold drinks and admire the views. We chose the (posh) soup and sandwiches for lunch. All homemade, including the bread with plenty of choices to suit all tastes. Delicious! Some of the group decided they deserved coffee and cakes to follow which went down a treat. A special recommendation goes to the scones with jam and cream! Baked freshly to order and a very generous portion size, you’ve been warned !! 🙂 Think we would have stayed all afternoon at this special place but the long ride home beckoned.

Often when you are looking forward to something it doesn’t live up to your long awaited expectations but this place exceeded them. Our room was even lovelier than the photos suggested which was amazing because the dog friendly rooms in a lot of places are normally a bit shabby. There were gorgeous walks from the door, the food was delicious and the best we have eaten on our month long Scottish trip so far and the staff professional and welcoming. This is not your traditional hotel but a unique style sanctuary escape that I can’t wait to return too. I hate seeing the poor reviews on here because we loved it so much and thought it good value for money even though it’s not cheap.

Stopped off after getting soaked on a walk, welcomed me and my wee dog into the very comfy lounge for a coffee. I appreciated the chance to chill and chat to the staff who were very pleasant and others in the lounge. A beautiful backdrop of Loch Voil outside to explore. I really liked the mirror shelter and made good use of it, between the two lochs.

May be up a one track road but fantastic scenery and wonderful food awaits. Immaculately aproned staff were in attendance in what looks initially like a small bothy type building but on entering it was stylish and welcoming with a log fire. Most dined outside as a warm day but we chose the inside area with its panoramic view and had roast beef, which was perfectly pink, on an open sandwich and a house wine. Prices are decidedly on the high side but worth the treat.

The bad thing about reviewing hotels with restaurants on Tripadvisor is that you are never sure which you are reviewing! This is my review for the restaurant. Lovely romantic fine dining, we enjoyed views of the lake as we ate our amuse vouches and were pampered. We had lamb for starter (felt odd to have this on the starter menu) then I had Roast pork and the wife, Dover sole. The chefs are trying too hard, is my view and hence only 4 not 5 stars. The pork was quite tough and tastelessness, swamped by the flavours of the sauce and other bits. Mrs R’s Dover sole was delicious but came with a sauce that was meant to have a hint of curry but was swamped by it. Curry and Dover sole are not a great combo. That said, we enjoyed our evening and the service was very good.

The squash , carrot , and coconut soup , with fresh ginger , toasted pistachio nuts and chilli was , sublime, the choice of toast or a cheese scone was a great touch. The chicken wings , were nicely coated and tasty enough but nothing to write home about , but the smoked mackerel and beetroot pate was without doubt the best we have ever had, the balance of flavours was perfection. Lovely remote setting yet only really an hour or so from Glasgow. We had a fantastic well appointed courtyard room - I'm going to have to get one of those Illy expresso machines! Steam room and huge bath added a bit of luxury. Interesting menu - food started with wonderful canapés and just got better with each course. Excellent wine list and reasonably priced too. Great range of whiskies and guest beers (Loch Fyne ales). The breakfast was good also. Staff couldn't have been more helpful, atmosphere quiet and relaxing. And although weather for our stay horrendous so we didn't venture out - this hotel would be an excellent place for a bit of cycling (road bike route to Strathyre and Killin nearby - there is probably some good mountain biking nearby as well). And with Stob Binnien a short walk away - a hill walk would be tempting. We'll be back with the bikes in the summer although they're booked up months in advance so you'll need to book early.

The Monchyle Mhor hotel is distance from the main road, but it is well worth a visit. You travel through the countryside and along the side of Loch Voil and just before you see Loch Doine you come across the building suddenly in a clearing between two lochs, fantastic views of the surrounding mountains. We were greeted by cheerful staff and were well settled in a table overlooking the mountains (beautifully, with some mist drifting along the tops). The menu was varied and had fish and meat and vegetarian options. The bread is made locally and is wonderful ( they have a Mhor bread shop in Callander, if you want more supplies). Our starters well quickly with us both dishes were well presented well plated. These were delightful and the following mains were equally delicious. The staff were attentive and responded to any requests. One of the best eating experiences I have had and can recommend a visit you will be rewarded by excellent food and fantastic mountain scenery.

You turn at the Mhor motel, then travel for 8 miles down a single track road by the loch..eventually you reach a converted farmhouse. Now a great, quiet, quaint upmarket hotel and restaurant. A view to savour across the loch and an experience I will not forget. The reception was warm and friendly, the restaurant cosy and the right balance of formality/professionalism but also relaxed and convivial. Staff were excellent - always on hand and engaging but never intrusive. The food was sublime. Not a tasting menu but a great 3 courses with additional petit-fours, oysters, amuse bouche etc etc. Much sourced locally (and within the family business - bread, fish etc). At £50-60 a head then wine on top it's not cheap but given the what, where and experience it is great value. On my list to revisit....

If it wasn't for the owners behaviour this would be a 5* review. Our room was excellent, modern, all good facilities, food was superb from a very innovative Polish young lady, reception, bar staff, gardener - cannot be faulted. Owners, Tom, his wife, dogs, well "no comment" is the safest. We had superb weather so owner & his team decided their office would be outside. OK but guests don't really need to hear how the businesses are run - a 4 arrive for lunch but they have to squash onto a small table whilst the "management" take up a lovely large table bang next to these customers, yes paying guests but will they return? Prices are high, mark up on wine, crazy, all this said, we stayed an extra night mainly because of the amazing weather. Will we return, after what was our second visit - no, reason why - the owners who don't seem to appreciate their customers.

With a fixed price for three courses, Sunday lunch at Monachyle Mhor is a pretty straightforward affair, but with no sample menu online, you will have to take your chances with the options available - only one vegetarian main course offered the day we went, so it may be worth calling in advance if you need to know details such as these. The view from the dining room is pretty spectacular, but the interior of the room is fairly unpolished, either deliberately so (a bookshelf with a charity shop style selection of assorted cookbooks) or not (cobwebs in the overhead lighting wires). Service is attentive but friendly, and the food is good Sunday roast standard - soup, crab, fish and roast pork among the options on the menu when we went - but there was nothing particularly outstanding in the meal I ate, and I wasn't entirely convinced it was worth the price tag. Getting to this secluded hotel/restaurant takes time, with a single lane track to be negotiated after leaving the main road, but the location is stunning and if you're of a mind to pay the price for the food it's worth effort.

We went for dinner at Monachyle Mhor after years of meaning to do so and our expectations were very high. Too high perhaps. The food was good but at the price charged it is not acceptable to serve sprouting broccoli that has "gone too far" and was virtually inedible. Some of the dishes seemed to have too many ingredients and they didn't necessarily meld together as well as one would have hoped. The wine list was very expensive and for the price charged the wine we chose did not live up to what we would have hoped. Having said all this, we did enjoy our meal. It is a wonderful location, the restaurant is cosy and welcoming and the staff are excellent.

Everything about Monachyle is superb from the wonderful idyllic location overlooking the loch and hills, the lovely boutique hotel style rooms, very friendly staff, and not least the fine local produce. This was my first trip back in probably 10 years and definitely since the full makeover which has taken the once comfortable farmhouse hotel to the very modern boutique hotel it is today. As with the other local establishments that form the Mhor brand attention to detail and quality is key and all backed up with great staff. While the fixed price for dinner is worth the price I think the room rates are a bit steep especially if we hadn't been offered a free upgrade to one of the stable rooms from a very small double room in the main house. But all in all a very magical place that is well worth the visit.

loved environment and views. Disliked several dog poos on the ground in the outdoor seating terrace and car park area. Dogs and children are free range there. £4.50 for 2 golfball sized scones but they were fresh and nice jam.

It was a miserable night as we drove down the one way track, but boy was it worth the effort ! From the welcoming cosy bar and roasting fire, we kicked off withtt the most wonderful amuse bouche followed by an excellent three course meal with the freshest of produce. The service was friendly but not intrusive. We thought the price was right for the standard of food and service delivered and plan to return early summer.

The rooms are great and very comfortable. The surroundings are gorgeous. The food is simply delicious fab wood pigeon and melt in the mouth lamb. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. It's a bit expensive but you get what you pay for. Would highly recommend.

What made the set 3 course meal (£55) were the extras. during our Scottish meal experiences there was quite rightly and naturally an emphasis on the wonderful local produce. Often relatively a simply cooked main course of meat or fresh fish with a small amount of sauce. Once the price is at this level you might wish for some extra creativity. That certainly came with the extras. 3 canapés to start, mushroom pannacotta , a salmon dish, and meat dish with sauce, then followed by a fresh oyster in a jus. A great soup topped with a roasted hazelnut and truffle oil. Starters of a single hand dived scallop, shellfish with bisque mousse, and their own Tamworth pork with smoked eel. Mains were a Gressingham duck, confit duck with star anis, black potato, very flavoursome fresh halibut, samphire, saffron. All the above were cooked perfectly and the produce top quality. We ordered a couple of sweets and just felt that they weren't quite up to the rest of the meal. I am nit picking, but it is a fine establishment. One apple dish had slightly undercooked apple and a parfait underwhelmed. I am sure this is one of the best restaurants in the area. The menu changes most days which is an amazing and challenging endeavour.

Accessed down a 4 mile single track road, no phone reception and limited wifi - in the most beautiful setting, it makes you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere when actually only an hour or so from the central belt. The food is amazing, feature rooms are superb and the staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the menu and belter of a wine list. Its setting allows for some great walking, or just indluging yourself in a beautifully picturesque part of Scotland.

We've just returned for a 1 night stay in a courtyard room with our 10wk daughter. Fortunately (for the other guests) she was very well behaved! Dinner was the highlight of the trip...the starters and main courses were sensational. Desert was a little bit disappointing as it didn't reach the same level. Our room was lovely and provided enough space to accommodate us plus the numerous bags, etc that's inevitable when travelling with a baby. Breakfast also fanastic n as usual the staff couldn't be more friendly or helpful. We'll be back soon as it really is a great destination for a short indulgent trip and we love it!

A perfect weekend retreat to celebrate our anniversary - arrived early, left the bags at reception, had some glorious hearty warming soup and Mhor bread and headed off to the hills. The weather was kind and after 4 hours or so we returned to check in. The service was just perfect - chilled champagne and flowers (pre-ordered) awaited us in the lovely room, which was hi-tech but homely and so comfortable. Relaxed and perhaps a wee bit tipsy we went for out evening meal. Every course was a revelation - such lovely flavours and attention to detail. The restaurant service was perfect, attentive, but not "in your face" and completely non-pretentious. No hesitation in recommending the restaurant or hotel - it lived up to, and exceeded our expectations. We will be back!

We drove as far as the hotel as the views were magnificent today. Scotland at its best. We weren't very hungry so opted for soup - which came with delicious Mohr homemade bread, butter and chilled tap water - as we wanted. The soup was fantastic, pity we hadn't room for a meal. For tow people - came to £11. No extra charges - very fair.I saw round some of the rooms - will be coming back for a special weekend

We went there for a significant birthday of my partners. The place is in ideal settings at the end of a long single track road. We arrived on time, and the restaurant where not even put out when we found out the rest of our party where going to be an hour late! The food was excellent, everything was cooked as it should be, tasted delicious and we even had dessert and coffee outside as it was a nice day, I didn't even think it that expensive I really cant fault this establishment at all.

This was our second visit to Mhor. , our first being 4 years ago over Christmas which was a delight. This time it was an Anniversary night away for just 1 night Dinner , Bed and Breakfast. We were in the coach house room which is really lovely, spacious and open with large bathroom and shower with steam room option, very luxurious.Dinner did not disappoint, Amuse buches in the little bar delicious with a well made cocktail and then a very well paced dinner, split with tasty extra treats between courses and finishing with coffee in the lounge.Crab panacotta was fresh and full of flavour and textures and my main of Pork so flavoursome with punchy flavours and lovely tastes of sauces which complimented the meat perfectly.Really good to see Tom dotting about the place this morning , this is what really makes this place stand out, a head chef and owner who is very involved.A really lovely stay , thanks so much

You make an effort to reach this delightful, remote oasis of Scottish charm nestling above the junction of Lochs Voil and Doine. The single track road from Balquhidder needs some concentration but the delights of the scenery lure you onward to your destination.Under the direction of Tom Lewis and his family, Monachyle Mhor as become both an outstanding country house hotel and a fine restaurant. My wife and I have visited several times, the most recent being in June. The well balanced menu reflects the best of local Scottish produce. Many of the vegetables are grown on their own land. The wine list is well chosen and reasonable value. The friendly relaxed atmosphere seems to make guests feel part of a club and we often have ended up in conversation with fellow diners. Staff are courteous and knowledgeable. the food is perfectly served and we always end the visit feeling pleased with the experience.

Second visit to Monachyle Mhor. My wife drove for 2 hours just for lunch and we took our daughter this time. Breathtaking scenery and remoteness. Such a good place to switch off from work stress and life's troubles.3 course set lunch was excellent and reasonable value at £32. Asparagus starter was just brilliant with such fresh produce. Roast beef main was very good but food should have been hotter on the plate when served. Dessert was good but barely a mouthful- one spoonful of sorbet . My wife and daughter had the pidgeon starter and cod main that were both excellent . The best beer on the planet , WEST wheat beer only on draft, was not available but even this disappointment could not spoil the experience . The place is just too perfect and we all happily made that 4 hour round trip to see it again .

We were lucky enough to visit on a beautifully sunny day, and the drive to the restaurant was just beautiful. It's really tucked away, but has a lovely view over the loch, and we were able to have a drink outside before lunch. I've been wanting to visit this restaurant for a long time - ever since seeing the Chef on great British Menu, and the food did not disappoint. The three courses were well balanced so you could fit all three in without being too stuffed at the end. The dishes looked beautiful, and tasted great. A stand-out dish for me was a starter of quail stuffed with black pudding, which had the most amazing sauce with it. My chocolate pave dessert came with gooseberries which had been soaked in honey - something I'll definitely be taking away to try at home.Unfortunately the service did not quite match up to the food. My tap water was forgotten when we ordered drinks on arriving, I had to order my wine twice, andw e were left with dirty plates in front of us for a considerable amount of time. There was also a large wait between our starters and mains, and no explanation for this (around 40 minutes). However, ther service did not detract too much from a thoroughly enjoyable anniversary lunch, and I think we would return if in the area again.

I've been here for a few lunches and a wedding in the past and always find I come away feeling regenerated. The lunch is always beautiful but somehow, the long drive in beside the peaceful loch with the high mountains all about, is such that it seems to frame the whole experience, leaving me with a picture in my head to draw on when I'm back in the land of the busy.

My wife and I discovered this restaurant many years ago and thought it wonderful. We treated ourselves and our family to those special meals there every so often. The service, quality and ambience were second to none and the location is to die for. Until today when we surprised ourselves by landing up there! Everything pretty much as it used to be ...except that on this occasion we felt we got very poor value for our money...the service also, though friendly, lacked that "we want you to return" feel. We had come a long way...but we knew why it was going to be worth it....except that on this occasion it wasn't by quite some distance. I am sad to write this because we had such warm feelings for Monachyle Mhor but I doubt we will return. I'm not short of a bob or two but would like to see more on my plate than the minimum nouvelle cuisine now on offer. The fare has definitely reduced over the years. I understand what needs to be done to turn a profit in such a remote but so beautiful location and the owners have produced wonders over the years. I wish them continued success but would encourage a timely and independent value assessment as far as the restaurant is concerned. We cannot comment beyond that since we haven't stayed there.

Stayed for a few days as a treat for my 40th. It was amazing. It's a beautiful spot, that you think you're never going to get to, quite a drive on single track road, but well worth it. The room was stunning, very comfortable bed, massive free standing bath, sauna and a wonderful selection of teas and coffee. We opted for dinner at the restaurant the nights we stayed. I have to say it's probably the among best food I've ever had. Every dish was lovely. I'd eat there again anytime. Wonderful service, very friendly...Our breakfasts were amazing too.

It has become an annual pilgrimage to Monachyle Mohr over recent years and again accompanied by good friends we had a memorable luncheon experience. Quality food offerings with imaginative presentations always make the occasion a special treat and this year was no exception. Much of the food is supplied from their own farm stocks and deliver fresh tastes. Definitely recommend, especially when shared with friends.

This is definitely a "destination" restaurant if you enjoy stellar food and friendly personal service. Have dined here a few times and it's as much worth coming for soup and sandwiches at lunchtime as it is for a full dinner. Always top-notch. Location is breathtaking too!

What a cracking find. Never stayed in Dunblane before and booked this as it was recommended on the internet. It was absolutely brilliant. The food was excellent and the staff were all very friendly. Would definitely recommend and if we are ever back in the area we would definitely return. They gave outside seating which would be lovely on a good day, unfortunately it was very wet in the day we were there. Loved how the bill was delivered inside a book 🤗

Excellent anniversary lunch. All of the dishes were delicious, friendly attentive staff and good value for the quality of the food. Burrata, chilli prawns to start, followed by market fish (hake - delicious) and salmon and lobster sauce pasta. Affogato and mint ice cream and chocolate choux bun to finish.
