Molly's Tea Room in North Hertfordshire

The ambiance and quirkiness was wonderful and the cakes we had where good but oh the coffee. I ordered a cafetiere for one and was actually gobsmacked to see the server pour coffee from the filter machine into the cafetiere, the coffee had obviously been standing for some time judging by the taste. My wife did not believe me, so I attempted to find coffee grounds in the bottom of the cafetiere. Will not be visiting again.

We had afternoon tea at Molly’s tea room and it was fantastic! Lovely food, lovely staff and felt very at ease! There was no pressure to leave and we got to take some treats home!

Lovely sandwiches and selection of cakes. The gorgeous jam tarts were divine. Scones warm with jam and cream. My only slight criticism is the lemon cake- just a little dry

Took my 90 yr old Mum to Molly’s today to celebrate her birthday, and she had a lovely time. Cannot fault the quality of the food, the welcome and the patience shown by Molly and Lorraine in keeping us well served. The sandwiches were millimetre perfect, fresh and tasty, the scones were warm and scrumptious. All washed down with bottomless pots of tea. Thankyou!

Had set cream tea with family. Wonderful scones, classic china, perfect tea and excellent service. The place is quite small but it wasn't busy and the experience was everything and more than we could reasonably expect. Added bonus, there is a car park (free on Sundays) a few minutes walk away and unlike so many places today, it was open until 5pm.

Had a lovely afternoon tea which was prebooked, on arrival we were welcomed by the owner who I presume was Molly. She was very friendly and chatty. Tea was delicious but way to much!!!! all home made and fresh, including lovely fresh sandwiches, mini cakes and to finish off freshly cooked and warm scones with clotted cream and jam. All very delicious and tasty, tea room was very clean and everything was perfect. Just make sure you have enough room for all the amazing cakes and sandwiches. Good value for the amount of food. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. Kevin & Yolanda

I came here with my wife and we always have a lovely time, its such a nice atmosphere. Sometimes Molly is in and I can have a chat with her, but all of the staff are lovely, always happy to help with some more hot water for the tea. For us, the portions are just right, I don't think of an afternoon tea as a "belly buster" but something that is delicate, a treat, and it is. Everything is so fresh. We sometimes stop in for a pot of tea and a slice of cake, they're so freshly made, not like some places with pre-prepared cakes. I can't recommend Molly's enough.

Booked afternoon tea today for our mothers 80th Birthday. All very pleasant at first as we sat down. We were told we could have tea, coffee or any cold drinks. We had 5 cold drinks and some tea and coffee. We were not told it was extra for the cold drinks. We then pay and get told extra for cold drinks! £1.80 for can of Coke and £2.20 for juice! If we had known this we wouldn’t have had it. The rude and miserable staff member then went to check and she said you were told. Well we certainly were not! The owner didn’t even come out to apologise absolutely appalling! As for the sandwiches pretty average, and cheap bread. The ham was the plastic ham, not what you expect when paying £18.50 a head! I’ve had many afternoon teas and this was by far the worst! I don’t want a reply saying we were told as We can all assure you we definitely were not! Better sandwiches in greggs!!!

Having read a review about how “un-child friendly” it is I had to write this review to say it was the complete opposite! While there for my mums birthday a family came in with a small child. While there the small child had an accident and the owner have the child as I had care and attention as possible, to the point of the child having an extra special treat for their food. We could not have asked for a more personal experience and the staff were wonderful. The food was great and the price was amazing for the amount and quality we got!

I went in the morning with my two year toddler. I wanted to make her surprise as she was sick for last few days. Unfortunately, the lady didn’t make it special. Very rude and not welcoming. Cake also average. You would think that this cafe would be great for kids. Shame.

I wanted to take my Mum for a late Mother’s Day surprise and having walked past Molly’s Tea Room every weekend when I lived in Hitchin I thought it was the perfect opportunity to pop in. We were greeted warmly and shown to our seats before being asked for our drinks order - they were more than happy to exchange my tea for a milkshake, which was really nice of them. Then we had our sandwiches and cakes, all of which were very obviously prepared fresh and taste great! It was a lovely selection with something for everyone (including one fussy party member). Finally it was time for scones, which were still warm! Had a really lovely time, and my Mum thoroughly enjoyed it, which was the main thing. Would definitely recommend Molly’s Tea Room as the drink, food and staff were all delightful <3

Charming tearoom serving nice range of food! I just had coffee/walnut cake and a pot of tea but they do a selection of sandwiches and a full afternoon tea inc finger sandwiches and scones! Friendly staff too and a nice atmosphere. Interesting selection of teapots too and in the town centre with buses nearby! Well worth a visit!

After not seeing each other for what felt like years, muse and my two friends went to Molly's for afternoon tea. When we arrived, we were sat at a few small table. Thankfully, a little while later, we were moved to a bigger one, which was much better. The selection of teas was good although the menu said to ask the server what fruit teas were available, and the server told me to look at the menu. In the end, I went for Chamomile which was served in a good sized pot. The sandwiches, scones and cake selection was fantastic, and there was easily enough to take a doggy bag home. Would I visit again? Yes. Without doubt. I may even get to find out what fruit teas they have!

My friend and I returned today for a lovely festive afternoon tea. The staff are all so welcoming and friendly for starters and there is a lovely, cosy atmosphere inside. We had a vegetarian afternoon tea. Lovely brie and cranberry sandwiches and four little cakes, including Tunis cake which I haven't had since I was a child and brought back nice memories. Then after a tea break, lovely, light cinnamon, orange and cranberry scones with clotted cream and rhubarb and ginger jam. The flavour combinations were delightful. We finished every bit washed down with as much tea as we liked. I would highly recommend a visit here. Thanks Molly's.

I booked Molly’s tea room for an afternoon tea, for my mum as an early birthday treat. I had never heard of Molly’s, but it was recommended by a friend, so I thought to give it a try. They do take £16.50 deposit for afternoon tea bookings. We were greeted by friendly & welcoming staff. The tea included unlimited pots of tea, 6 sandwiches per person, 4 little cakes per person & 2 scones with clotted cream & jam per person. It was lovely to see plain (not fancy), traditional sandwiches ☺️. The cakes were freshly made & delicious & the warm scones were lovely. We couldn’t finish all the cakes, so they were boxed up for us to take home. At £16.50 per person this was great value. We weren’t rushed & the staff were lovely & professional. I’m so pleased to have found a proper vintage tea room & would say this place is a must book 😃.

Coffee was nice. Assam tea average. Granary bread was nice with crispy crust. BUT the ham filling in one was like very thin processed ham. And the Tuna mayonnaise filling in the other had been put on at about the thickness of the butter. Couldn’t...

lovely tearoom serving range of food. Normally serves all day breakfast and sandwiches/toasted sandwiches although at moment only serving cakes and drinks I had some very tasty choc chip cake and a nice pot of tea (which included lovely dainty cups and a tea cosy!)...

I used to like Molly's but I think that it's a little overpriced for what it is. The decor inside is nice, but it always feels a bit damp when eating in. The food is average but I love the teapots.

Going from reviews on their Facebook page, we wanted to order a cream tea as a birthday treat. It was delivered on time, packaged excellently and top quality. Everything was great, I'll let the pictures do it justice...

Service always superb and the cakes are brilliant. It's the one place in Hitchin my kids always ask if we can go to. Home baking at its best and there is real variation which makes you want to come back time after time. Highly recommended.

A group of 5 of us had a delicious afternoon tea at Molly’s tea room for my birthday. All the sandwiches were vegetarian as requested when we called and they tasted lovely, lots of filling, we particularly liked the cucumber and mint. The cakes were amazing, especially the brownies and of course the scones! Everything tasted homemade and fresh. We also got unlimited tea and coffee with our afternoon tea which is a really nice touch. Staff were friendly and attentive. Thank you for a lovely afternoon tea!

Very expensive - not worth the cost just to have a cup of tea served in a teapot with tea cozy. Had a sandwich, but nothing special, I’ve had better. Tables packed in tightly, made me feel claustrophobic. The toilet facilities were nice.

Just popped in whilst visiting Hitchin and was not disappointed. We tend to visit a lot of tea rooms and have to say this has scored very high on our radar! Welcoming interior, friendly staff, great and prompt service, lots of food to choose from etc. The sandwiches were delicious and plentiful and the cake was to die for (try the delicious coffee and walnut cake if you get a chance) a really great slice served with a large pot of tea. We went away smiling and full what more could you ask for. Will definitely return as it made our afternoon thank you!

A little way from the main shopping area of Hitchin but well worth it. We stopped off for lunch - sandwiches and a really large pot of tea. The staff were really friendly and we would certainly go back again.

Thought we'd have a change from the usual coffee shops in and around Hitchin. One desperately wants business such as this to succeed before the High St is absorbed into a facsimile of every other town.Sadly, tea was not great and the cakes were mediocre. I hope we were a "one-off" but we will not be back. Seems to be a case of style over substance.

Lovely setting for a truly vintage style experience. The cakes are all made on site and are delicious!! Their breakfast menu is also very appealing and I’ll back for lunch too. Well worth a visit if you are in a Hitchin

Fantastic afternoon ,went to mollys tea room for my friends birthday. Lovely afternoon spread. Very polite staff .if you love a vintage tea room then this is a must. You won't be disappointed. We will certainly be going again. Staff make you feel welcome and all ways make sure your topped up with tea and that your happy.

Have eaten lunch here on many occasions and have enjoyed in every way. Charming atmosphere and a welcome change from the coffee chain type venues. Very pleasant staff, who listen to customer requests and apply effortlessly. Quite a varied menu, with food quantity and quality excellent. The delicious smoked salmon salad and the grilled sardines on toast are always a favourite for my husband and I, not to mention the mouth-watering, home-made cakes on offer, if you still have room.

Had a lovely afternoon tea to celebrate a friend’s and my birthday. Good food in pretty surroundings with friendly, attentive staff who didn’t rush us. Been here a couple of times - once for tea/scones and once for breakfast. On both occasions found the food to be really good quality and well prepared, and the staff to be lovely and friendly. Feels like a traditional tea room and is quite quirky (in a good way). Makes a nice change from the usual chain high street places. Will definitely be going again.

With teddy bears in the window you would think this tea room was suitable for young children. This was not the case.

Just had a lovely afternoon tea at molly tea room for my wife and sister law. The sandwiches and cakes were absolutely delicious and so fresh. As much tea and coffee as we wanted there was no rushing. The staff were very polite and helpful and couldn't do enough for us. Thanx you to everyone who made the birthday visit a lovely visit. And the two Victoria cakes with the candles in them was a lovely touch.

Went there for afternoon tea. Tea room is very quaint and service friendly. Little disappointed with the choice available. Plain cucumber sandwiches, plain ham or plain cheese sandwiches? Would have been nice to have more variety. Cakes were very nice but nothing special. Have had better afternoon teas elsewhere for a similar price.

Visited here for the first time at the weekend for a baby shower. They were so helpful in the run up and on the day. Portions were very generous and the food was delicious. Would highly recommend.

Wow, what can I say but what a find. I’ve walked past many times but wanting to take the children I mind somewhere for lunch I decided here and none of us were disappointed. The tea room is beautiful with many beautiful artefacts spread around. We had sandwiches which were freshly made and very tasty. One of my charges had a chocolate brownie which he declared was ‘just the best ever’ my pot of tea came with a beautiful tea cosy which was a delight. The staff were very friendly and the service was very good. The children want to come back in the next school holiday.

I have been here for their afternoon teas a while a go- which are incredible! And wanted to try a lunch. We all had the £6 soup and half sandwich combo and chose the butternut squash soup and egg mayo sandwich. Soup tasty and homemade and a good portion size and brown bread used for sandwich lovely with plenty of filling! Live all the teacups and saucers and teapots with crocheted covers with flowers on!

I had a cake made by Molly's tea room for my daughers birthday. I was absolutely lovely and they made the whole process so easy.

Today we visited Molly’s Tea Room in Hitchin to use an Afternoon Tea voucher for two which was given to us for our Diamond Wedding Anniversary. The service and food couldn’t be faulted and we will certainly go back again.

I have been here a few times with others and they are friendly and the cakes are yummy and they are often something different the whole ambience of the place is lovely olde worlde teashop but a modern twist. I have even felt comfortable enough to go here on my own for tea and cake and not felt the least bit conspicuous highly recommend

Molly's tea room goes all out to please customers - today we had a great themed afternoon tea. Pumpkin juice, tea, squash, butter beer, golden snitches, cauldrons, sandwiches, cakes, every flavour beans, pumpkin pasties...we are totally full! Lovely food, lovely atmosphere, great fun!

Walking through Hitchin Town Centre a number of times over the past couple of months I had either passed by Molly's Tea Room heading into town, or popped to Sainsbury's for a meal deal.

Booked Afternoon Tea for my mum’s 80th birthday. It was lovely. Great range of sandwiches and the cakes were delicious, polished off with scone, jam and clotted cream. Service from the ladies was wonderful. My mum and son have visited before and had breakfast which was also first class. Definitely recommend and will certainly be back

Stopped here for afternoon tea after visiting bridge end gardens and the St May's church. I had a pot of tea and red velvet cake for £6 and enjoyed a relaxing tea break. The tea rooms are more extensive than they first appear and there are toilets available

We celebrated a family get-together with afternoon tea, and it was wonderful. The sandwiches were fresh and tasty, and the cakes and scones were perfect. The portions were so generous we had to ask for a doggy-box! Already looking forward to our next visit.

We visited Molly's Tea Room for the first time for a private event to celebrate the life of an amazing lady - so somewhat difficult circumstances. The service we received was wonderful; friendly, warm and welcoming and very respectful of the day. We had Afternoon Tea - a really fabulous array of homemade finger sandwiches, cakes and scones with clotted cream and jam. Nothing was too much trouble. I only wish we lived nearby, as we would certainly be regular visitors. A beautiful place which I would highly recommend!

I thought Molly's was a 40s tea rom not a crèche ! I appreciate a little quiet while I have my tea and cake.

Popped in for a quick coffee and cake, coffee was excellent, cake was scrummy and the flowers everywhere made me smile. Service was friendly and good, toilet was clean and had the largest teddy bear in it that I've ever seen.

A deliberate time-warp. Sweet china teacups, cute cakes (when did I last see a fairy cake..!?) and very friendly staff. Been twice, once with my son and his daughter. It's a film set for Brief Encounter, or Downton. Go, but remember the prices are no longer in £sd.

I've been to Molly's a few times; for afternoon tea, for a quick lunch and for a cuppa and a cake. Every time the service has been exceptional and the food equally so. The staff are so incredibly helpful, the food is great AND cakes are homemade which is awesome - I am always impressed with that! Definitely worth a visit, thanks Molly's! :)

Very quirky old fashioned style tea shop with very friendly and helpful staff. Good range of fresh home made cakes and good value for what you get. Also very handy for one of the town centre main car parks, just round the corner.

Lovely tea and chat with a friend. Very friendly service. Cute China cups and plates. Tea cosy on individual tea pots, so cute. Gone made cakes, but the cheese scone was they best.

One of the nicest tea rooms I've ever been in. The staff were so friendly, we had jacket potatoes with ample fillings and the cakes were simply delicious and homemade. The unique style of this place was mesmerising. Everywhere you look there are little nicknacks and beautiful touches that make you smile. Now a special mention about the toilets, yes I really am going to talk about the toilet area in a tea room! Make sure you go, you just walk in and start smiling again. I want my bathroom just like that!!!!! Everything about this place is perfect, can't wait to go back!

My happy place! Always feel welcome by the wonderful staff and the cakes are just devine! It is my go to place to take my mum and friends when they visit.

I have visited this place a few times now and it only gets better! The service is super friendly and helpful, and the quality of food/drink fantastic. I buy a few brownies each time to share with my colleagues at work and they all agree they're some of the best brownies they've ever tasted.

Visited with a friend, tea was so weak it tasted of water... and the smell of wet dogs was just awful, sorry not worth the money.

Visited with friends and enjoyed the festive tea. Cakes were lovely and were presented beautifully. I would say a few more savoury options might have been nice but all in all it was lovely. Only disappointment is that you are only allowed one glass of mulled wine (first glass is complementary) but we would have purchased a second. Great all round experience.

I am a bit of a caffeine addict, so to go to these tea rooms was a bit of a departure for me. This lovely place is all about the tea and is proud to be so. I enjoyed a rather nice breakfast and I have to say, the atmosphere was wonderfully genteel, which makes a lovely change. I was very intrigued by the toilet area. It has to be one of the best! I did want to take the bear home.......

We booked out the Tea Rooms for a baby shower and it was excellent from start to finish. The staff were great, the food was brilliant and we had a fantastic day. I would highly recommend and will definetly be a repeat customer as I'm sure the rest of the party will too.

This place offers the kind of baking that's not easy to find. Everything is super fresh, not too sweet, and absolutely addictive. The service is very friendly.

Nothing is too much trouble for the Staff at this Café. It is usually a meeting place for all numbers of people and all ages. Very comfortable indeed with very prettily, tastefully decore inside. Recommended without doubt.

I normally go for breakfasts or tea and cake and Molly's with my nan and mum. We always have a pleasant experience and so thought we would try the afternoon tea for my nabs birthday. At just under £15 each, we literally could not fault our wonderful experience and at such a reasonable price compared to other similar places around.

Afternoon tea is excellent value at this nicely decorated and pleasant tea shop. Generous quantities of freshly prepared sandwiches, small cakes and traditional scones, cream and jam with a wide selection of tea available.Delightful waiting staff who were very attentive.I think the fluorescent lighting could be replaced for a cosier atmosphere.I recommend a visit.

Took my granddaughter to mollies for lunch and had the best bacon sandwich ever , fresh bread real butter and delicious bacon, granddaughter had a made to order sandwich ( tuna no mayo ) , the selection of cakes all made in house was amazing , will definatly be back .

Molly's is our favourite Hitchin tea room, so where better to celebrate a special birthday? We were treated to a scrumptious afternoon tea and we all thoroughly enjoyed the occasion.

Absolutely delightful. Nothing like it in Hitchin. The cakes are delicious - would love to take some home they are that good. The service is really great. Really attentive staff but they also give you space to enjoy the food and surroundings.

Ordered a cheese scone and teacake. The scone was heated in the microwave and was like a lump of dough the teacake was not a teacake that I have ever seen before- under toasted and buttered with synthetic spread. Returned cheese scone to be given a stale - cold - out of the freezer scone. In the end had some cake which was ok. The waitress who dealt with us was absolutely lovely - but I will not be going back. Such diabolical food.

I have always recommended Molly's Tea Room as I have found the service and the food to a very high standard. I used to visit it every week but the last couple of months I haven't been and it seems a lot has changed. The service wasn't pleasent and my cheese on toast was the crust and that was burnt! No nice side salad as there always has been. Dust so thick on the shelf that you could write your name in it. It's such a shame as this really was a lovely place. I won't be rushing back that's for sure.

lovely friendly little tea-room went along with my granddaughter today for half term treat we both had a tea and cake it was very tasty. This was not my first visit. have had a group afternoon tea here as well with excellent service.

We visited here for lunch and we felt underwhelmed! We found the service pleasant but not attentive, we cleared our own table as no one had been to us for quite a while and we wanted to have cake after our lunch of soup and jacket potatoes. We didn't see any waitress so went up to find out what cakes were on offer, and ordered whilst at counter.Food was OK, but when we paid we were surprised by the price, we normally go to Rosebuds cafe and worked out our bill was a whole third more expensive than Rosebuds. We wouldn't have minded if it had been better or outstanding but it was not!Also the loyalty card was only marked once even though we had three teas , when I commented apparently it is one mark per visit not per drink, never come across this in any other cafe!!

We had 'Mollys Breakfast' which is a healthy full english. Nothing is fried. It was delicious! Eggs poached to perfection, bacon was crisp, not a single drop of fatty slime anywhere to be seen. Besides the food being yum, the young girls working there were very polite and friendly and provided prompt service and were happy to accommodate us.
