We arrived to find that the staff appeared to be overwhelmed, so I walked through to the main pub, where I asked the other staff if we could order tea and cake. Once the staff arrived we were swiftly given the cake options, and asked for tea for two and a soft drink. We had to wait for about 15 mins for our drinks, after the cake had already been deposited on our table. It took several prompts, to be told that they had a rush on, and they were waiting for drinks. The actual cake was very tasty, but the occasion would have been so much 8mproved if the drinks had arrived at the same time..

Chaotic cafe with wrong orders, slow service. Could be SO much better! Nice enough staff but out of their depth…

Had to go and get someone to serve us. We had scones and a coffee. Scones were inedible, so stake. Sent them back.

Victoria sponge very dry, my friend complained and was given another slice of s different cake. It wasn’t much better. Coffee was good. But didn’t compensate for the appalling service. When I eventually found someone to pay was disgusted they had added a service charge! Would not recommend.

£20.95 for one slice of tart, one chocolate brownie with ice cream, one tea and one latte. The tart had some slices of I think melon on the side that were fizzy. Don’t bother.

We stopped here for coffee on arrival. The coffee was a really good blend. The cakes looked good and the staff were nice.We went back later and tried both the blueberry cake and the chocolate cake both lovely and not too heavy or rich (this is good news because I could easily eat an whole slice)

Lovely staff making you feel very welcome and the best variety of breakfast ever. The homemade muesli is definitely not your standard muesli !! Eggs benedict I could eat every day

We visited for lunch whilst on a day trip to Saffron Walden. We sat outside as we had our 2 large Labrador dogs with us. Contrary to other reviews we found the service to be excellent although we only ordered sandwiches and beers. They made us and our pets feel very welcome and would definitely return. The menu is extensive with several specials available daily. My biggest reservation is the prices and a service charge is automatically added. The inside of the restaurant is quaint and comfortable. My opinion is that it’s worth a visit if you are in the town.

My son lives in Saffron Walden and this weekend we met in the town centre. We decided to to have lunch in Molly's Cafe. Saffron Walden is full of cafes and unfortunately lots of charity shops (sign of the times). All of the cafes are pretty much similar in food quality and choice. What separates one cafe from another is specialities, smiles and a level of customer service. We decided to visit Molly's Cafe as from outside it looked quaint. As we approached the door with a buggy we could see the two female employees sitting near to the shop window at one of the tables, talking. They didn't get up and help us open the door to enter with the buggy. Once inside one of them did move some chairs to facilitate the buggy. It appeared as if we were inconveniencing them by visiting the cafe? No smiles at all. We had to pay for each item straight away. It was if they didn't trust us to eat first and pay later??? The food was very good, it was just a shame the service was none existent! There was no space to move and it was expensive. When I worked at Saffron Walden Police Station we frequented Cafe Coucou which is a fabulous establishment, food with a smile and excellent customer service!Maybe the staff and management need to visit Cafe Coucou and see how it's done before they lose too many customers!!

Warm and inviting, this coffee shop serves up the normal coffees and cakes...and is therefore disappointing relative to visual expectations. The illusion was shattered when I witnessed several granola slices being upwrapped from their ‘wholesale’ sourced wrappers. Nothing seemingly home baked, albeit what we had was tasty enough !

On a Saturday lunchtime it was surprising that there was only a choice of 3 or 4 cakes to choose from in Molly's. There was a reasonable choice of teas, albeit fruit or flower-based, and I opted for the regular afternoon tea which was good. The Victoria Sandwich was rather dry and a bit mean on the filling. This is a very pleasant little tearoom, linked to the Cross Keys pub and perhaps we picked a bad time. The service was adequate but when we left and called to say thank you to the girls at the counter we got no acknowledgement, which considering we were the only ones there' is rather surprising. I'd probably go back, but there are so many tea and coffee shops in Saffron Walden, Molly's need to sharpen up.

next door to and part of the cross keys hotel this small coffee shop is very average. the tables & chairs are crammed in, the floor is uneven so they rock about. the coffee is similiar to that found at costa - only go there if desparate.

Lovely cakes, hot drinks and very kind and polite staff. A little like the fast disappearing old fashioned but lovely Tearooms of yesteryear.

We used to be regulars to this place but we won’t be back. We waited 30 mins for our breakfast to arrive and then it arrived one plate at a time with no cutlery. we ordered coffee and tea which didn’t arrive till after the breakfast. The menu has changed for the worse putting the prices up and the portion size down.

Molly's never fails with it's attention to fabulous food. We ordered sandwiches, which came freshly made in quick time with a size enough to quench an empty stomach and fill it so all you needed was a lite dinner! Set conveniently on the high street with clean restrooms and lovely smelling hand soap.

A traditional looking tea room just a short stroll from the Market Square, it is in fact part of the adjacent Cross keys hotel, and although sharing the kitchen and other facilities it appears to maintain it’s own identity, entrance and so on. It’s quite pleasant internally with chequered tablecloths on all the tables and a selection of cakes in the window, although these appeared to be mostly pastries, croissants and so on, so if you’re after a sponge or anything else you might be out of luck. That said, we were there for breakfast; perhaps the selection changes later in the day.

I am from Australia, and must say the battered fish was a bit dry. Chips were great though.

Food was great. Service was quick and friendly. We sat in the upstairs bar which had a nice view of the airport apron. The dining area was very spacious. Lots of tables but not crowded. Nice and calm atmosphere. The only downside was that it was rather hot and not very well ventilated.

Terrible experience here….we left due to feeling unwelcome and unwanted. And unfortunately for the owners they missed out on our £50 worth of custom. We ended up having a lovely brunch at ‘Monty’s’ round the corner….would highly recommend. I await Paul’s unnecessary and rude reply

We came here for my birthday this year based on the menu we saw online and the fact that we’d come here last year and always meant to make it back. I called earlier in the day to check regarding children’s menu and a gluten free menu and was told not to worry as all food is made fresh and there was usually as a minimum a burger and fish a chips that fulfilled this. I enquired whether I had to make a booking for this afternoon and was told to just come down. How I wish We didn’t bother and chose somewhere Else. We were the only ones in the restaurant when we arrived and for a fair duration after, and was told that even though they opened at 5 they wouldn’t take a food order until 6pm. Which is of course fine, so we had ample time to prepare our order and was ready to order as soon as they were ready to take it! We the proceeded to wait 55 minutes before even a peek of food turned up and only because we had asked how long it would be after 45 minutes and again after nearly an hour. When the food came it was luke warm at best, so cold for other diners that it got sent back for a quick dunk back in some oil. Fish was so bland and watery, and the peas came in their own little bowl of water which was nice, nearly as nice as the 4 hairs that we found across the meals, naturally half way through the meal but we darent send anything back with 4 starving children and a very strong Will to get the hell out of there. Please- save yourself the pain of this place and go somewhere Else.
