Modern Chinese Takeaway in New Forest

Extremely disappointed...I moved into the same building where this restaurant is located a few days ago. Tried ordering one on our first night but were closed, despite Google saying they were open...so tried them tonight...ordered a prawn kung po and got a prawn sweet and sour......which I hate.....also ordered a crab claw which we never got. With no explanation we got samosas instead (smallest samosas ive ever seen). Real shame, being so close we could have given this place some solid buissness but are not looking to return.

Best take away Chinese locally wouldn't go anywhere else Try the Chicken Curry fantastic meal, we've been using Modern for years never and the food is faultless. 100% Highly recommended. ps Its busy for a reason the food is great

Just had the most disgusting meal I have ever had, bland tasteless crap. Asked for no prawns, got prawns. Never again

Nice food but massively excessive portions for a high price. Offering smaller portions for a more sensible price would be preferable, we overpaid and had so much waste

dont bother overly priced due to the portion sizes were plentyful for quality and taste awful even the dog turned his nose up

It's a takeaway, so there's no atmosphere, it's counter service cash only.

Never had a problem with service, always friendly and quick 10-15 minutes. Only criticism is that the chowmein needs more sauce and less beansprouts that are all bunched up in layers. Price wise OK.

Food stone cold. No taste. Price is not the same as the menu online Orederd 3 dishes all bland and cold

Waited 40 minutes in the takeaway for a collection that we had phoned through 40 minutes before going to collect it!!! When we got back, the food wasn't great. Undercooked rice and mediocre meal. Really disappointed, on a night we were meant to be spending with family we don't see often. Wish we'd gone elsewhere. Was more expensive than expected too. Bad pricing. Wouldn't recommend.

Have used Modern for years and never had an issue. I always call to order and then collect and normally always told 10-15 minutes, but if they’re busy, it’s no longer than 30 minutes. Absolutely incredible flavour, never go anywhere else.

Worst Chinese takeaway I’ve ever had. Bland, tasteless, poor quality food, fine if you like microwave noddles! Save your money folks. The dog seemed to enjoy it though!

Food is nice. Decent portions. But only take cash and if you have a slightly difficult address/ a flat, then will be asked to collect, so not ideal

The food was good and the portions were a decent size but they only take cash payments which isn't something I really carry around these days.

Went for the usual sweet and sour chicken with egg fried rice. Unfortunately the chicken was soggy and tastless and looked like the kinda stuff you get frozen in a tin, really poor to be honest, did expect better. Hot and sour soup was great though.

Sadly wasn't very good. Crispy beef in sauce very chewy and not at all crispy but soggy. Singapore noodles more beansprouts and veg, tasted like curry powder. Overall not a very enjoyable meal.

Adequate food but need more staff. Always “half-hour “ wait, but normally 1 hour.

Right now it is absolutely heaving so I really wouldn't bother, any other time, best Chinese in the area.

Having just tried the Modern Chinese in Hythe. Now I don't usually post on here but I just want to share my personal experience. Chicken and sweet corn soup. Very sweet and gloopy. Pancake rolls were ok but very greasy. King prawn balls with sweet n sour sauce. This was what prompted my post... absolutely awful. Small kind prawns encased in tasteless thick and inedible doughy batter.. The sauce was quite artificial . Won't be going back!!!

Getting too expensive and discriminates against single person orders as usually we order much less and can't get to minimum delivery and then they charge there local customers a £1 charge, be kinder and look after the locals.

Decent food but such a bad wait and really bad telephone operator. Just say 'okay, that'll be an hour' or however long rather than "okay". Nearing 2 hours now. Edit: was 3* now it's 2*, food arrived below luke-warm.

Ordered at 5.10pm and told 1hr for delivery. Food came at 7pm after us calling to chase twice, and one of the dishes was wrong so we ended up with two noodle dishes. Food itself is ok, not the best chinese I've had. Prawn crackers stale. Wouldn't recommend personally.

Disgusting food, taste of absolutely nothing. I've eaten a lot of Chinese food and this is the worst yet. Had to ring 3 times to get a refund as she kept hanging up on me. When she finally gave me a refund she threw the money at me and didn't speak. Rude staff, disgusting food!! Do not recomend. Would give no star but isn't an option.

Deserves less than 1 star.... Food was tasteless and I'm sure it was reheated. Asked for my money back and got hung up on 3 times. Would not recommend to anyone

Have been using Modern for a while had friends around . Placed our order Ask for a specific delivery time was amazed with the young lady's politeness and was on time. Food Good was excellent. Shame about 5 star you deserve more.

I don't usually do reviews but this Chinese is terrible had the worst sweet n sour chicken balls ...Couldn't find the chicken through the fat ....yuck!!! Chips old n cold and fella loves ribs but so tough he left some ...never again

Wish I could give no stars. Food is nice, delivery times an absolute joke. Unless you live round the corner don't bother. Almost a two hour wait and that's normal for them and they still charge you full price. Shocking.

Ordered at 5.45, advised half hour wait. Went to shop at 6.15....... Still waiting at 7.15. Asked if my food had started to be cooked - didn't give assured response - left without food!!!! AND I WASN'T THE ONLY ONE!!!! Can't give less than one star - otherwise I would have!

Have used this Chinese for a couple of years. Always been average. The past few times using it we have ordered over £40 of food for collection, turned up at the given time (usually 40 or so minutes after ordering) and have had to wait an hour there for the food to be ready. Won’t be going there anymore!

The best Chinese food in Hythe !, I have tried the others & without doubt Modern is the best, I won't be going anywhere else, outstanding quality & plenty of it !

Waited over 2.5 hours for my order. Kept phoning only for them to eventually blame me as they claim they couldn't find my house. Gave them directions and phone number, said they were sending him back but nope! Thanks for absolutely nothing!

Enjoyed a meal for 3, lots of food so no one went hungry. The meal was cooked quickly considering they were extremely busy (phone rang more than ten times whilst I was waiting), was hot and tasty. I don't think there was any MSG in the meal and they have a wide variety of dishes to choose from. Perhaps only a small criticism is that some of the items were a little bland but the flavours were more subtle than other Chinese food I have had which were over seasoned. I would recommend this take away.

Just got a meal from them, normally its pretty good but tonight it was horrible, everything is cold, stale prawn crackers and all very low standard. 40 minute wait as they were very busy but told me 25. I wont be going back again, waste of money

Disgusting worst chinese I've ever had. It was soggy. The meat was suspicious and no prawns in the prawn balls. I returned the food.....uneaten and got my money back. AVOID!

I was eating from here quite a few times until last night , I had 2 chicken dishes that were not good to eat , the chicken was tough and the food was not even hot , I took the dishes back tonight and I thought the lady was going to be sympathetic, instead she snatched the food out of my hand and had a very angry look on her face , I was going to except her giving me fresh dishes but instead she slammed the money on the counter , I was not impressed with this , what she should of done she should of treated me nicely as she would of got me back , I will not be returning again with that sort of treatment !
