We were here too early to try the lunch, which looked tasty, but had a drink. My mum said it was the best coffee she had during our weekend in Oxford. We also were given a free mug each!

Este tiene que ser uno de los mejores cafés en Oxford. Café y pasteles. Buena selección de ensaladas frescas y vinos por copa. El personal es amable y servicial.

An oasis of calm in the tourist madness that is modern day Oxford! Great coffee and hot chocolate and tasty cakes. Waiters unphased by requests for soya milk too.

Met friends here but was disappointed with the limited choice. I chose a GF wrap, as did some of my friends. The wrap, which was well filled with falafel, was meanly spread with beetroot hummus, but with a nicely dressed salad of which there were 4 from which to chose. Some chose the vegetarian curry which was served luke warm. Service is excellent with friendly smiles from the waiting staff. The puddings are designed for vegans. The "chocolate not a cheesecake" dessert was not very good for £5. Lacking in chocolate flavour it was stodgy and bland and had no sweetness to it.

We make regular visits to Oxford and wanted to try somewhere new. So, we looked at alternative cafe's (to our usual haunts) and took account of reviews etc. At first I wasn't too impressed by what seemed like a lack of choice. However, there are lots of options listed on the board and it's worth enquiring with the serving staff, so just don't go by what is on display. When the food/cakes came we couldn't have been more delighted. It was all of excellent quality and presentation. Coffee was superb and a really nice touch was filling and re-filling glasses of water; without being asked. Reasonable prices too. The cafe itself is quite bright and airy, which was just as well as the weather was truly awful the day we visited. It is housed in the Modern Art Gallery, which is slightly off the beaten track and is well worth a visit before or after eating. Definitely somewhere we would visit again and again.

Had an excellent flat white coffee (Lavazza) - strong and hot. Didn't have anything to eat but food that other people had looked good and healthy. Tables and chairs are simple - no fancy sofas - but all perfectly adequate and the whole cafe feels very relaxed. Popular with mothers and babies when we were there.

St Ebbes Kitchen is the perfect place for delicious food and drinks in a relaxed environment. There is a changing menu with plenty of choice for vegetarians/vegans. Lovely fresh ingredients are used in the hearty sandwiches/tarts, warming soups and colourful salads. It's worth a visit just to see the daily offering in the HUGE salad bowl! The cakes are just as tempting too! I regular use St Ebbes Kitchen for meetings and guests are always impressed by the menu choice, fast service and friendly atmosphere. There is plenty of space between the large tables and no loud music playing which makes this place perfect for business meetings or friends having a catch-up! St Ebbes Kitchen is a hidden gem situated within Modern Art Oxford's inspiring gallery space. I highly recommend a visit and this is a great opportunity to support a thriving independent business.

I very often have lunch at St Ebbe's Kitchen simply because it's by far the best place in Oxford for a healthy and delicious meal (and I am picky when it comes to food). And it's cheap too! There are always vegetarian and vegan options, and the salads for example are absolutely fantastic, with fresh and varied ingredients. The menu changes daily, so you're never bored! It's also a great, quiet place to study or read. I can highly recommend this restaurant!

My wife and i stopped here for lunch after viewing the Lubaina Humid exhibition and were pleasantly surprised by what was on offer. With this kind of cafe we usually expect a pre prepared sandwich in a fridge, but at St. ebbes kitchen everything was made fresh on site and was absolutely delicious. Between us we had a cheese, leek and tarragon tart and a homemade sausage roll with salad and coffee. If we're ever back in Oxford we'd probably make a point to visit the cafe regardless of what's on at the at gallery!

Some of the best food I have ever eaten. I am not being dramatic or overstating anything, I actually don't ever remember eating food this good. I had a salad with roasted carrots, chickpeas, hazelnuts, avocado and a terrific dressing while my wife had a tart (more a quiche) which was also amazing. The coffee was good, the service was fantastic and the food, like I said, exceptional. The price wasn't bad for how full we were when we left. I honestly can't say enough good things about the place. Please just try it.

Not in the heart of town but not far out at all. Definitely worth a visit. The food was absolutely fantastic. Fresh and delicious. The cafe waitress was very friendly and helpful, giving us extra milk for our toddler. Calm atmosphere, a must for a quiet bite to eat.

My Sister and I visited this place having just been to Christchurch Cathedral. A pleasant airy space with two delightful ladies serving the food. We shared some plum and almond cake - oooh- it was delic'. The coffee was a good flavour too. What a shame it's in an out of the way place as they seem to be good at what they are doing .

I regularly go there for their salad, it is always different, colourful and flavoursome and really tempting every times. It makes me feel healthy and virtuous, although I always end up having cake too... The staff is always very friendly. The prices are very reasonable. I would recommend everyone to go there.

St Ebbes kitchen is the cafe at the Modern Art gallery, which we found by accident when we cut down a back street to get away from the tour groups on the main road. The cafe is light and airy, with big tables and enough space to accommodate groups. We visited on Easter Sunday and found it to be quiet, but I think most people tend to go for a roast on a Sunday so that might have had an effect. Service was friendly and quick, and it was great to see plenty of choice for vegetarians and a strong cake game. If this was near my work I would definitely pop in for lunch regularly, as a tourist looking for an alternative to a chain restaurant it was exactly what I wanted. Great coffee too!

Fab coffee, the real deal in flavour and intensity, and the most scrumptious almond and plum cake, still warm from the oven. Lunch, although not sampled (YET - will definitely return to do it justice), looks like a cross between Cranks and Ottolenghi, Spitalfields, here in Oxford. All interesting, fresh, original combinations.

I went there for a lunch on Sunday. The Cafe offered a £10 deal with a main, hot drink and dessert. I had a great filled butternut squash with multiple sides, a brownie and coffee. The atmosphere was very relaxed. I'd definitely go again.

Appalling restaurant. Service was slow and the cake I ordered was stale. Staff didn't seem to know what they were doing, although possibly a case of bad management.

Things can only get better, they say. Or do they? Readers will no doubt have seen my review of the Modern Art in Oxford and read about my life affirming experiences with the unhelpful, atrocious snobbery, of the staff here. In the cafe it is less pretentious and virulent than in the actual museum, with its astonishing entourage of just 4 visitors wandering grim faced around the galleries. Let's not forget I have been coming to the museum for over 35 years and have seen it when it was at its zenith, during its wonderful heyday in the 1980s. Today, it is a sorry reflection of itself and all it can do to impress visitors is to parade the names of its grovelling, self-serving, benefactors all over the walls - as if anyone could care two hoots about how important these egomaniacs dressed up as philanthropists, really are. You will have time enough and the occasion to study these illustrious names because they are situated close to the cafe. If like me, you are lucky enough to find the museum virtually empty, (because it seldom has anything of any remote artistic talent or originality on display) you will also find a free table and a chair in the cafe. Chance would have it that the table is dirty, stained with a lagoon of tea/coffee spillage, and the remnants of someone else's meal stamped into the floor beneath the table. The staff are generally quite disinterested and can't be bothered to clear the tables or clean up - they are far too busy being intellectuals. Woe betide anyone who points this factor out. The will be met with a stern and enervating glance from the person in charge. You should be privileged to be sitting at a table covered in debris and the crumbs of a violently massacred repast. The tea comes in those funny bags that resemble used tampons or nappies. As the leaves expand the nappy inside the teapot starts to filter out its flavours. You can hang the nappy on the side of the pot when pouring your liquid into a chipped tea cup. I did not need to ask for a sugar bowl, not even to appear socially motivated. Instead, there was a filigree smattering of sugar crystals strewn all across my table top - obviously, the industrious work of some bored and borderline deviant infant. Having practically given up on the gallery now, I sometimes frequent this lacklustre space for a cup of tea, to ruminate on the past triumphs of this once inspiring museum. This time, I was tempted to opt for a cake, but I did not suspect that it would be rather late in its career and somewhat on the ossified side of things. Yes, dear readers, this incredibly popular reviewer actually considered buying a file, so that next time I can cut the rock-hard, stale cake in two. Usually, the file is reserved for those who are prolonged guests of Her Majesty, and it is disguised within a cake is it not?

On a cold and rainy Sunday I took shelter in Modern Art Oxford and discovered a gem. It appears they've got a new restaurant/cafe and though I only intended to have a coffee I succumbed to friendly conversation and ended up having a late lunch. The food was tremendous: rustic, fresh and incredibly flavoursome. I couldn't recommend it more highly - it was a real surprise.

We visited the cafe for lunch last Saturday. The staff were extremely friendly and explained the lunch options to us. We had a really tasty bruschetta salad, it was very fresh and a lovely combination of flavours. The portion size was just right and very filling, but not so much that we couldn't manage a piece of homemade cake afterwards! We also had a cheeky Bobbys beer on the side! Great new place and really good to find a decent lunch venue in oxford which is independent and uses lots of fresh produce. Will be recommending to friends.

The old Modern Art cafe was wonderful–their salad bar was excellent, and wonderful value for money too! Today was my first visit since the new St. Ebbes Kitchen in MAO was opened and I was severely disappointed. Not only has the price for a salad increased significantly, the system has also changed in that you get a measly side plate's worth of salad rather than a 'main' with side salad included in the price. MAO used to be one of my favourite lunch destinations. This is no longer the case.

We had a pleasure of using Franca's Cafe as a training venue for our bartenders - it had all the facilities we needed and we had a great day! You can just tell it is a very well run and a cared for venue. The range of drinks is impressive, the hospitality is warm and authentic - you should give it a try!
