Mitre in Norwich

Coffee currently varies week on week. Sometimes water is too hot and burns the coffee making it too bitter. As I drink an Americano without sugar, this is particularly noticeable. It's not every week, but disappointingly too frequent now. Not a fan of the new cups - bamboo and no handle. Bring back the crockery please. Choice of cakes and biscuits varies too. Used to do a yummy vegan peanut butter chocolate cookie but not had for sometime now. Will try again soon in hope things improve as I like the ethos behind the café but if not, I'll be looking elsewhere for my caffeine hit.

Great iced coffee, sandwiches and sausage roll! Lovely staff! Lovely seating area outside in the sun!

Regular at the Mitre in Norwich and have been for a while! Food options are uncomplicated and tasty- and there coffee is great, best this side of Norwich. and welcoming. The service is always spot on and the staff are always friendly and chatty! I highly recommend to anyone…

Lukewarm cappuccino, when our bacon rolls came, after a considerable wait, the gentleman asked us if we wanted condiments, we said ketchup, and my sister asked for a knife. I didn't ask as I thought it was obvious you would want a knife and serviette, but no he just brought her a knife. Also bacon was practically burnt. Won't be going back.

Luke warm , small latte coffee, bland food , overpriced. Sticky tables, Have been twice before but won’t be returning. Have not been able to find a decent cafe on this side of the city, have tried several just for a decent coffee and a sandwich but to no avail…

I have spent a lot of time at the Mitre during my time in Norwich and the staff have always been friendly and welcoming. The service is quick and professional, and as far as I can tell, they have adapted brilliantly to new COVID restrictions. A great place to go! I highly recommend.

lovely, friendly staff and nice venue. The hot chocolates are amazing! but sadly recently ordered a breakfast and it was not as nice as it used to be. They no longer use butter and the toast was thickly spread with margarine which i had to scrape off. Also, the sausages were not good quality and i couldn't finish them. The breakfast was dripping in oil and i really think the black pudding should be replaced by some humble baked beans. In the past, i had an amazing bacon baguette but don't feel i can risk ordering it again based on this recent breakfast and probably won't order anything but hot chocolates from here for a while. it is a lovely place though and we have had many good experiences there in the past.

We visited here for breakfast and were instantly impressed with the Covid safety measures put in place. Clear signage, easy to navigate floor markings and greeted straight away by a friendly member of staff. We had the vegan breakfast and bacon sandwich, which were both delicious and cooked to a high standard. Staff were all very friendly and attentive. We will definitely visit again!

Went for brunch as a group of 6, staff seemed accommodating on arrival showed us the menu and to our table. However we were disappointed by the lack of breakfast options offered for being advertised as a breakfast place. Similarly for being advertised as a bar, there wasn’t many drinks offered to go with breakfast. We were told staff would take our order at our table, then asked to go to the bar. When ordering there was 3 members of staff behind the bar, yet only one interacted with us whilst the others did nothing but trip over each other. Food tasted good but looked very bland and beige, little effort in presentation, no salad/garnish etc, offered fish but tartar sauce. Table was sticky, we were told our drinks were going out of date, so given them cheaper, which felt odd. Staff wore PPE incorrectly. Overall a frustrating experience.

Been 2 or 3 times post lockdown. Good procedures in place. Good service. Not sure what’s happened to the food though. This time my Wife thought she’d have a bacon roll/baquette. How the chef sent this out is beyond me. Absolutely cremated. Things have really got to improve. She now wishes and I wish she’d have sent it back. Not acceptable. My sausage and bacon ciabatta was better but the sausages may have changed and I wasn’t too keen on the taste. May be a while before we return.

Decided to visit Mitre after hearing the food as good. I can definitely recommend the cod goujon sandwich with side salad. The bacon ciabatta roll was well packed and the Greek salad very tasty. Followed by great coffee, this cafe bar is well worth a visit.

The Mitre opens at 08:30 which is a good start. The breakfast was excellent, served quickly by attentive staff. Great value too.

It might be simple but what The Mitre does, they do well. We are rarely lured to order anything but the epic steak ciabatta which is not only delicious but great value for money. Occasionally we are disappointed when serving hours have changed or they have run out of items but this is understandable given the nature of the business and wouldn't deter us from visiting far too regularly.

Having dropped our daughter off at UEA we were looking for a convenient refuelling stop nearby for the 3 of us on a wet late Sunday afternoon .Took a punt on Mitre & got a result. Great atmosphere ,friendly service , good & reasonably priced food ,lovely building .We try to avoid national chains and visit independent places and this certainly deserve support-we had vegan burger/steak sandwich/cod sandwich-all with fat fries .It's not trying to be a Michellin star restaurant but the food was lovely-will return on our next trip

Worth a visit if you want to try the best bacon, brie and cranberry ciabatta ever. Calm atmosphere and friendly service

Four of us had lunch here. Unusually these days the tables are spaced well apart and there are also a couple of settees and various armchairs, so you don't necessarily have to eat here, some people just come in for a coffee. Decor is attractive and modern. Our lunch was very good, well prepared and decent sized portions. Vegetarians are well catered for. The restaurant is dog friendly too. The restaurant is run by the nearby church but is in entirely separate premises. Service was a shade slow, but this is not a criticism at all. Good food is worth waiting for, and the wait was not that long, so no marks deducted for that. Definitely would come here again.

Visited the Mitre community café / bar / bistro for breakfast one Sunday morning. The food was good and we found the Mitre very welcoming and the service excellent. Mitre is housed in a lovely old building and is run as a “not for profit” business by the church next door! Shall definitely re-visit when next in Norwich.

Often popped in here before church for a coffee but this time decided to try the food - ordered a plain cheeseburger and it was very nice - arrived quickly and the service was good.

I regularly visit here when working. They are extremely flexible with me bringing food in and just having a coffee at times. They also serve some yummy food, I have had a cod sandwich previously which was very tasty. The staff are always really friendly. This place is inclusive with their staffing and appear not to discriminate which I LOVE. There can at times be a bit of a wait for drinks but it is worth it as the coffee is yum.

Lovely to see this building beautifully and tastefully restored. It’s run as a community cafe by the local church and really works well as a friendly inclusive restaurant/ cafe. Though the menus is limited, the food is very good and the staff are friendly and the service excellent.

Called in as it was conveniently located on our way from church to the hospital. Incredibly friendly staff Willing to adjust the menu slightly due to fussy eaters! Delicious food Excellent value for money Will definitely return

I visited with my daughter for breakfast. We had a Vegan and a vegetarian breakfast . All very nice. Staff were friendly. Service was quick. Clean tidy place. Parking available but limited at busy times. The decor was nice and comfortable. Just lacked a bit of atmosphere. But that’s not a reason not to visit. I would recommend. Choices for all people.

I think they might be newly opened, we are not local? Lovely spotless and calm interior with quirky lights and furniture. Many breakfast options are available: we went for the build it yourself 5. Great choices and drinks, helpful staff. Look forward to going back! Tea timer very successful!

Great food and coffee with friendly staff and a relaxed, casual atmosphere. Nice extras like board games, good WiFi etc plus the added bonus of the fact it supports a really good cause!

Lovely place to come whether for work or pleasure, there's always a quiet buzz. Being able to get a gluten free bacon sandwich (which are also huge), and a gluten free cake with a relaxed, inviting atmosphere is perfect - my daughters and I love coming here, and I sometimes come here just for a coffee and cake and my laptop. Just what we need in NR2 ! Thankyou.

Found this place purely by chance and just had to let you know how superb it is. Great atmosphere, very welcoming staff, relaxing decor and brilliant menu. I had the smoked salmon and scrambled egg, my partner had the English breakfast. Both dishes were nicely presented and honestly were the best breakfasts we have eaten for a very long time.

...cosy in the colder months with a lovely fire, light and airy in the summer. Lovely cakes - best caramel apple cake I've had! Vegan sage & onion rolls are great too. Dog friendly and always has a nice, relaxed atmosphere.

A great venture run by the local church. they have done a fantastic refurb on the building and the drinks, food and service are completely professional. You can buy a hot drink for someone who can't afford that treat if you like.

I may have only come in for a beer, but the beer was a grand beer, served with superb customer service from Emilia. Would 100% recommend this place for a drink, plus good prices too

Met our daughter here for lunch on a freezing February day. Dog friendly and so cosy inside with a great menu full of tasty mains and lots of fab cakes and traybakes. Well done St Thomas’ church a great place in the heart of ur community

A long wait for food, a dirty table (despite asking for it to be cleaned), grubby tea timers (who needs them anyway), teenage girls lolling about surfing and taking up tables having long finished whatever they had ordered. The food was OK when it came but we won't visit again.

Mitre is a lovely cafe, the decor is really nice and welcoming, staff are all very pleasant, and the food and drink are top notch. Honestly, the best bacon roll I've ever had; it was huge and only £3, can't recommend this place enough.

I visited Mitre this morning with my other half; I decided to order a flat white and salmon and scrambled eggs. Flat white was great and so were the scrambled eggs (not overcooked like most places I have been) and the sourdough it was served on. I was although quite disappointed with the amount of smoked salmon served with it, there was hardly any, only a few little chunks.

Absolutely love this place, just down the road from us and have been a number of times with family and relatives. Lovely environment, great decor. Inclusive to all with mix of all ages. Friendly staff. The food is great and so reasonable, went for light bite lunch with husband on Friday and came to less than £20. Great place, would definitely recommend!!! X

Looking for somewhere to have coffee without venturing into the city we passed The Mitre, once a very thriving public house before changing into a restaurant and now a modern and lively cafe. The seating area lends to privacy or social area, the area out front is shingles with tables and benches a nice sun spot. Coffee was great, lovely fresh baked sausage rolls and cake. Magazines to read, WIFI available , staff very helpful and friendly, plenty of room for mum’s with pushchairs , so glad we discovered this place again

Stopped off for a family lunch. We chose Mitre as it's both vegan and dog-friendly. The food was great and the service was fantastic. They even have their own parking, which we'd wished we'd known beforehand! We'd definitely visit again if we're ever in the area.

Cannot understand why this place isn't packed out on a Saturday night, the food is very good, all of our choices were fresh and delicious. Mitre has a very cool, contemporary, scandinavian style but was very quiet so must be a bit of a hidden gem for evening diners.

This place is an absolute gem! I love coming here to meet with friends over coffee/ lunch/ dinner. I was recently revising for some exams and it made the perfect location for bringing my work with me and getting out of the house to see some friendly faces. The staff are all so wonderful and I love coming to see them.

We live close by and bring the family a lot. Food is good but what makes it is the team working there and making EVERYONE feel welcome. Even if my kids are running riot, they don’t seem to mind... too much! Thank you, Mitre!

Went with my daughter and grandson for lunch. Looks really nice inside and staff very pleasant.

When we pulled up I was a little dubious because I wasn't 100 percent sure I was in the right place as it doesn't look like a cafe or restaurant from the outside. Once we got in and sat down you could tall that the decor was supposed to invoke calm and peace and it really does. The coffee was amazing and we decided to eat. I had a steak ciabatta with chips which was exceedingly tasty followed by a piece of cake that was equally as good. I would return to Mitre without hesitation.

Good menu, somethings are better priced than others like the expensive steak sarnie and fries at over £11, while a yummy chicken in a creamy sauce (or beef goulash) with rice or fries was a well priced £6.50. Light bites also the kids choice are well priced with a fish finger sarnie looking great value for money.

Excellent location great service great coffee you can get all your work done as it has excellent wifi have a chat enjoy great meals all in a beautiful decor and Scandinavian decor. Meet the Golden Triangle Comunity as that is definitely a meeting point at Trendy Golden Triangle. Excellent coffee and cakes locally sourced.

Friendly service, beautiful environment, interesting selection of drinks and food — including a fantastic stock of vegan options. Met up with friends here to discuss literature, staff were very accommodating. Will definitely be returning.

Visited today and had a lovely time. Our first choice of chicken was not available today but we had the beef goulash with chips instead, was so tasty. We also had bread with it, hot chocolates and cakes. Was £26, Great value for menu. Much nicer than the dingy Chinese it was previously. Lovely place and atmosphere. Waitress could have been welcoming and friendlier, no effort was really made to make conversation, but she certainly wasn’t rude, only slight negative about our visit.

We had been recommended by a friend to try The Mitre so we did for Sunday breakfast. We were very impressed as soon as we received a warm welcome as we entered. Our order was quickly taken for 2 full English breakfasts and arrived soon after with nice warm plates. The quality of the ingredients was very high and tested superb. I nice little touch are the ‘egg timers’ on the Teapot to allow you to select your preferred taste. We certainly will be back soon to sample the rest of the menu soon.

This is an absolutely brilliant place to eat! I was attracted to it from its outside appearance, it looks extremely professional and modern. The aesthetic is lovely, from the decor to the menus - they have nailed it! The food I had was amazing and I will definitely be returning here soon! The staff were friendly and the bathroom was really nice as well. They also had a cheeky 10% student discount, which I wasn’t expecting, so good!

Mitre has a very nice relaxed and homely feel to it and was a perfect place for some brunch. Me girlfriend and I had a cappuccino & hot chocolate and a bacon ciabatta each and everything was very nice indeed. I'd definitely recommend for either breakfast, brunch or lunch.

We were driving on Earlham Road heading into town and saw the Mitre and it looked so inviting we stopped for lunch. What a find! We all had different meals from the interesting and varied menu. All three dishes were perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. We had three pots of tea and a lovely lunch was had by all of us. The ambiance is comfortable and uncluttered, we loved it and to be able to park right outside is a true bonus.

Was out and about in this part of Norwich and we popped in for drinks but the food that was coming out looked superb. We had already decided on an Indian takeaway as both feeling a bit under the weather. The staff were really friendly though and the atmosphere itself quite lively but comfortable.

For all the nice bits about the Golden Triangle, there is a surprising lack of places one can go, get a good coffee, and do a bit of work or surf the web on the laptop or device. Mitre fills that gap very conveniently for me. The coffee is lovely, and it's (surprisingly!) open, light, and spacious. The staff even pointed out the location of power points to me!

This recently refurbished pub is serving great food in a contemporary relaxed atmosphere, I don't know why but I did not expect that from a pub run by the local church. So mitres off to them! A must visit

I loved the place, but the breakfast was a let down.

We've had coffee & cake, lunch and now also breakfast at the Mitre, and each time the food (and coffee) has been amazing - as has the service & ambiance etc. Breakfast surpassed my expectations yesterday - which were already high from previous visits :) All the staff work really hard, and even when it is very busy, nothing is too much trouble, and they've always delivered on all levels: food hot, well cooked and well presented, orders correct and service with a smile. Thank you. We'll definitely eat here again!
