Love this place. You'll get the best bacon roll in town and the staff are always so friendly. You can sit in the little cafe bit or you can take it away. They offer nice cooked food

Not been to Mitchell's for ages as I no longer live down that way but I used to go there every 3 weeks or so, I'd mainly get double deckers with black pudding & egg with a soft yolk, they ask you how you like your eggs which imo is amazing as most places don't do this! The waitresses that used to serve me were salt of the earth types, good honest and hard working and they were happy & enthusiastic in their customer service abilities yet always professional but with a friendly undertone! Omg I've also had their No1 - No3 Brekkies and I still haven't been able to button my jeans!! Fantastically tasty and exactly how a full breakfast is meant to be! Be popping down for big brek tomorrow for sure.

Don't know how many times I passed this place on the bus and wondered what it was like. Finally tried it and wish I had years ago! Welcoming, friendly staff; freshly prepared, home made food; great breakfasts and very reasonable. Takeaway available too. Once you've had a breakfast, you won't need anything until the evening!

Arrived and were directed to seating as soon as we entered. A few minutes to peruse the surprisingly good menu then a lovely lady took our order whilst having a laugh with us trying to decide. Food arrived fairly quickly and was clearly freshly prepared. Black pudding was pretty tasty - didn't taste cheap like most. When going to pay, I noticed the evil sods had some desserts on display. The white chocolate millionaires shortbread was delicious! Might have been a mistake visiting given that I live 5 doors away! Thoroughly recommended.

I happened upon this establishment whilst exploring 'sunny' Leith and after a hash brown and egg doubler I was sold to the idea of using the venue and catering expertise for a potential multi million pound contract. Although the WiFi was rather slow, the additional facilities were well catered for. Needless to say, if it wasn't for the staff, catering and venue I wouldn't be posting this review from my yacht in Granton.

Edinburgh is an expensive city and money soon goes especially during the Festival month of August. It is so important to find a cafe that makes good food and sells it at a fair price. Mitchell's down in Leith is a superb example of such a cafe. Unpretentious and simple this is a lovely cafe. Excellent food and friendly staff. A regular haunt of myself and my wife. Three breakfasts are on offer all superb value starting at just over £3. Lunches are superb. Today we had a fantastic homemade broth followed by a macaroni and cheese with chips for me and pizza with chips and beans for my wife. She had an Irn Bru and I had a hot chocolate. All excellent! The bill? Under £11 a bargain! So different from the bad value served up by some west end city center "posh" bistro establishments! Very highly recommended!!

I go once or twice a week. I inevitably have a soup. The scotch broth and lentil versions are consistently good. There are always cafe style food to choose from. Mince & tatties is a fav of mine. It has the man sized hotdog fashioned from fibreglass on the street outside. Not haute cuisine. Honest grub that hits the spot.

This is one of Leith's oldest cafes, one of the friendliest, and provides excellently prepared food at great prices. Our latest visit was today when my husband and daughter had really tasty fish in breadcrumbs with chips and beans. I had an all day breakfast which was not in the least greasy and every individual item on the plate was cooked to perfection. For these three main meals and two mugs of tea, the bill came to £13. I probably couldn't have bought the ingredients in the supermarket to cook at home for much less. Keep up the good work.

This is the place to go if you want good food, good helpings and a good price in a warm friendly atmosphere. This cafe is one of the oldest cafe's in the Leith area of Edinburgh, dating back to 1883, and is run today by Rab, Mary, Grace and her daughters.I used to frequent this cafe regularly when I lived in Edinburgh many years ago, and I am really pleased to say that it is just as good now as it was then. Even the locals are still as friendly and a fantastic example of your "typical scot". (Thanks guys and girls for making us feel so welcome). They do a wide range of food - all of it good - but the bigger of the breakfasts is not for the faint bellied (they do 3 size versions), and they all come with either tomato juice or fresh orange, and a choice of bread, fried bread or toast. They are worth every penny, and will set you up for the day.Their haggis, tatties and neeps and their stovies (scottish equivalent to hash or stew) are the best in the area and definately "to die for", and priced at £3.50 for most of their main meals, they are all really well priced. They also do "carry out", so if you want a decent meal for your evening meal, but don't want to bother cooking one up, then treat yourself to a carry out from anything on the menu. Preheated or cold, Mary, Grace and the girls will happily supply you with whatever you would like. Simply transfer to a dish and microwave to heat up.The address for Mitchell's is 21 - 23 Henderson Street (a corner spot on the right hand side as you go down Henderson Street), Leith, Edinburgh. Just off the bottom of Leith Walk, and five minutes, if that, from the Royal Yacht Brittania.Their opening times are Monday to Saturday 10am to 3pm and sundays 10am to 2pm. Sundays they usually just do breakfasts, but if you would like something else on the menu, they will do their best to provide it. We requested 6 carry out meals of stovies on saturday, and they cooked a batch especially to cater for us at no extra charge. To give you an idea of their prices, on one day, we had:- 1 Haggis, tatties & neeps meal, 1 B.E.S.T roll (Bacon, Egg, Sausage & Tomato), a child's chicken nuggets, chips and beans meal, 3 cans coke cola, 2 latte coffee's and a cup of tea, plus 3 carry outs of stovies and the total bill came to £16. Where else in Edinburgh can you go and get dinner and tea for £16??? Only in a few, hard to find places.Needless to say, we kept going back. This is THE place to eat in Edinburgh, and the ONE place that I would Highly Recomment. Give them a visit, you will not be disappointed.

Last year, mum and I found Max Bakes. Mum had haggis and black pudding and I had feta and spinach. I had never had haggis or black pudding (always put off by the ingredients 🤦♀️) I tried mums and vice versa...both were delicious! This year we planned to hunt Max Bakes down, worrying he may not be here this year, and much to our delight we found him in the exact same spot! (later we found out he is a permanent fixture not just for The Fringe) We order two haggis and black pudding rolls and they were as good as we remembered! Two very happy travellers 😁

Super little cafe, welcoming and well run. Dog friendly. Menu is limited however, if they're not too busy, other options are available on request such as full English breakfast. No obvious vegan options, other than toast. Oat milk available and gluten free bread. Freshly cooked food and really nice coffee. Full of locals, which is always a good sign!
