As soon as I walked in I was asked what do you want by the waitress, so I said table for one. Then just pointed to a table near the window. The menu is excellent plenty of choice and great value. And each item tells you what is in the dish. The portions are a huge so definitely excellent for money. The only let down is the waitress don't speak much English and you feel like a foreigner because I'm English. And all you can smell is the smoking pipe things(don't know the proper name) from outside. Would probably try one time too see if any different.

Miss Jummeirah is certainly a welcome adddition to Cricklewood Lane. It offers interesting, tasty food at reasonable prices. With some simple improvements, this could turn into a popular, bustling restaurant. Note: While many of my comments below are critical, I would say that the food is generally very good. The restaurant offers a large menu and is able to offer half portions for children. It also offers delicious, fresh fruit juices such as apple and pineapple, which I would heartily recommend. Hopefully they will expand on this in the future and perhaps offer a juice menu, which would no doubt be hugely popular in the warmer months. The stews are extremely tasty and there are also some excellent kebab style dishes to be had. They do seem to be very heavy on the saffron though. The saffron rice has far too much in it and it is not particuarly tasty - I would opt for the regular rice. Despite the good food, the restaurant does not make it easy for non-Farsi speakers. It was sometimes hard to understand what some of the dishes were, particularly as some of the items had not description. The waitress speaks very little English and is not able to explain the menu or deal with any queries or allergy issues. For this, she has to call the owner, who is generally able to help. It would be helpful to have a little key on the menu so that customers can quickly see which dishes contain nuts (as opposed to seeds - seeds, beans and nuts are not commonly differentiated in Farsi it seems, so this can lead to great confusion) and any other common issues. Perhaps the addition of a children's menu would be nice considering the number of families in the area, so many nearby schools, a children's centre, the gym and the lack of competition. In this case, it would be great to identify items that have not been marinated in spices on the menu and that would work for children without offering the standard chicken nuggets and burgers that are so common place. We asked for half a portion of a non-spicey kebab for our son, but even though we were very explicit about this and even double checked to see if the meat they were going to bring him had been marinated in anything spicey, we were assured it hadn't. When it came out, sure enough, it had been. The spiceness hits you after a few mouthfuls, so while my son enjoyed the taste and started eating, soon enough he was struggling and complaining that it was too spicey and he ended up getting my lamb shank! Another irritating thing is the lack of focus on the main restaurant. The outside of the restaurant acts as a shisha bar and all the local Iranians seem to congregate here. I have absolutely no problem with this and they are not intimidating or uncouth in anyway. It was great to see people playing backgammon too. I don't know if they just brought their own, or if the restaurant provides sets. If they provide them, that would be a lovely touch! All the smoking does mean, though, that if you want to sit outside (under the plastic shelters) you will be engulfed in shisha smoke, making it not particularly comfortable or family friendly and forcing you into the characterless restaurant. Sadly, the owners seem to be focusing on this outside area, rather than the restaurant aspect, which would surely bring them more profits. Aside from the poor service due to lack of English, there is also a lack of training (e.g. if 2 people sit down at a table for 4, the other 2 place settings are left there. If you are ordering a bottle of beer, the beer and a glass is brought, but the glasses on the table stay there, so you end up with hardly any room on the table!) The restaurant is void of atmosphere. The till makes a constant beeping sound like an answerphone message that hasn't been listened to. It is incredibly irritating and, unbelievably, hadn't been dealt with when we visited the restaurant again a couple of weeks after our first visit. The atmosphere could easily be improved by playing some traditional Iranian music in the background, thinking a little about decoration and employing someone who knows the culture and can explain the menu, but will also interact with the customers. Why not have some live music once a month and advertise on a board outside?! The area is crying out for somewhere like that. However, it is very clear that the managers are mostly concerned with their Iranian clientele smoking shisha in front of the restaurant and they sit with them most evenings, while ignoring any customers in the restaurant itself. Overall, I am frustrated with this restaurant. The owner says that he hasn't had time to focus his attention on this restaurant properly yet as he is owning two locales simulatenously. However, surely the first impression is what makes people decide if they are going to return or not? If you look like you really don't care and don't bother designing a menu people can understand, employing waiting staff who can explain it or creating a nice, welcoming atmosphere for people, the food alone will not keep the place open....and that would be a real shame for somewhere with such potential.
