We stayed here overnight using an offer advertised on Travelzoo. Whilst the offer was very good the service in this hotel really let it down. A beautiful hotel set in exceptional grounds. Room was lovely however, there was no shampoo or shower gel provided which is standard in the most basic of hotels. I showered and washed my hair only to discover there was no hairdryer. I used the toilet and then discovered that we hadn't been provided with a toilet roll. I phoned reception and luckily the lady brought me a roll quite quickly. A 2 course evening meal was included in our offer. There was a very limited choice but the food was cooked and presented nicely. However the staff were bordering on rude. We were seated at 7.30 and and the service was slow. at 9.30 with our dishes still piled up on the table and having only been given one drink. I asked at the bar if there was any chance we could be served a dessert to be rudely told they were very busy. As a hotel it is your responsibility to have enough staff for the amount of rooms and covers you have booked. I complained at reception but was told that the Travelzoo offer had been more popular than expected, this is not a good enough excuse for poor service. We continued to wait and at 9.45 gave up and went without. This resulted in a very disappointing experience.

Birthday night away with the girlfriend, can’t fault the place, great location, great food & drinks, great staff, great company. Now a KAREN would say, I was suppose to check in at 3pm but I couldn’t. (Go have a drink in the lounge Karen) The kettle lead wouldn’t reach the floor from the table. (Put the kettle on the floor Karen) The bath water wasn’t as hot has I would have liked. (Get into cold water therapy Karen) Only 1 toilet roll in the room. (Ask for one at reception Karen)

I knew this would not be a great stay as the hotel is in administration, however some aspects were incredibly bad. Upstairs corridor has a ceiling leak dead in the middle, dripping into a bucket, mould growing heavily under the drooping sodden roof. The bed mattress was almost rock solid, sheets although definitely washed had old stains on them. The entire feel of the place is as though you've entered a 90's hotel with an olden days style applied. First night staying the door on our room would not stay locked and was openable from outside even with deadbolt engaged, this was resolved the next day but the reaction of the staff indicated this was a somewhat common occurrence! The lounge bar closed at 10PM and lights were being turned off giving us the 'vibe' we had to move on. The water pressure from shower and bath taps was akin to a light drizzle, running a bath took at least an hour. The temperature was just passably high enough for a comfortable shower.

Originally booked this as a valentines getaway for me and my partner. Advertised as a spa getaway so thought it would be the perfect place to go. On arrival we showed ourselves to the room but was massively disappointed and disgusted by the state of this room. There were used tissue under the bed side table. Rubbish under the bed. Pee on the toilet. A ring of dirt on the bath. Hair absolutely everywhere. Stains on the bed. Dirty cups. Dead bugs under the bedside table. Hairdryer did not work. When we went downstairs just to ask if the room could be recleaned we we’re to We were told to wait in the reception while they cleaned the room. I was more than understanding and did not kick up a fuss about the shocking state of the room only to find when we went back to the room that it had not been cleaned and everything was still as it was. We had to go back downstairs to ask it be recleaned once again. The receptionist then tried to tell me that the dirt on the bath was a scratch! Proceeds to wipe it with her finger only to figure out it was in fact dirt. Was offered a complimentary drink. Just one singular drink as an apology. Ended up having a bottle of wine which they paid £2.40 for. I did not want to ruin my own time and decided to still be polite about the whole thing. No change of room or refund was offered. Absolutely horrid place and standards are clearly on the floor. I am up for giving it another go once new management comes in but in no way would I recommend this place. Really disappointing considering my partner works hard for his money and we were looking forward to staying here. I was extremely understanding at first but no excuse for the abysmal performance and service at this establishment. You can see all the photos in this review to see the state of the room we were offered

I booked a table here for this evening's Valentine's Day dinner and arrived full of expectations as the hotel is a stunningly beautiful building in lovely grounds. On arrival, my partner and I were shown into the special Valentine's Day dining room, which had just 4 tables laid out. The special Valentine's Day treatment consisted of fake rose petals scattered on the tables and 2 fake plastic battery-operated tea lights. The room itself was cold and piped non-descript elevator music played in the background throughout the meal. However, having ordered our starters, main courses and desserts from the special Valentine's Day menu, it actually took around 20 minutes before someone came to ask us what we'd like to drink. The starters arrived after about 40 minutes and then there was a wait of an hour before the mains arrived. The desserts then took almost another hour to arrive despite me asking a waitress how long they would be and being told they were on their way. When they did arrive, one was 3 balls of ice cream served on an oval Ikea plate and the other a tirramisu in a tumbler glass. And this took an hour to prepare. To be fair, the starters and main courses were very nice, but the service was absolutely appalling. Not once during the duration of the meal (almost 3 hours) did anyone ask if any more drinks were wanted, if we were enjoying the meal, or if everything was OK. I didn't take pictures of the desserts as by the time they arrived, I'd lost the will to live. Then, to top things off, we went into the bar to pay and waited almost a quarter of an hour for TWO people in front of us to pay their bills. Three staff members behind the bar seemed completely confused as to who had ordered what and were having to be told by customers what drinks had been purchased and what food they'd had! It's such a shame as the whole atmosphere in the dining room, the terrible service, the almost unbearable wait between courses, and the total indifference of the staff ruined what should have been a special romantic meal. This really is not good enough, Miskin Manor! Hopefully, when the hotel is under new management, the standards will improve. Until then, I certainly won't be going back there.

This was a treat for my daughter, some mum and daughter time; note this was before lockdown, but I've been waiting for a response to my complaint all this time. £385 for 2 nights for B&B, incl. entry to the Health and Fitness Club. I paid extra for the lunch and Dinners, which at best was mediocre....one dinner we left most of the main course, and the desert which was supposed to be rhubarb tasted disgusting; also left. The waitress didn't seem to be surprised and offered no replacement. One day we ordered afternoon tea, the teapot had food stuck to the inside of the lid, the response from the waitress was "oh do you want me to make another?" The swimming pool heating had failed so it was cold, when we spoke to Hotel reception we were told "sorry we have reported it", a regular user/member of the Fitness Club said it had been broken for at least a week nothing had been done. The only positive of this expensive experience, the Manor house from the outside and setting is beautiful, but the place is tired inside and not that clean. When we checked out I mentioned all of this and was politely told to write to the manager, had it not been a treat for my daughter I would of refused to pay the full bill but thinking that I would receive some thought of gesture from the manager I did pay the full bill; regrettably.I wrote 4 times to the manager and phoned he was never available and I even asked for the owner to call me but this never happened, to this day I have not even had the courtesy of a reply.

Excellent and refreshing evening with great environment, very friendly and attentive staff and (even on a quiet night) stimulating surroundings. All of our party of 6 had meat dishes, except me, who ate vegetarian. This was the only disappointment. The only vegetarian dish was a butternut squash risotto which was to be frank, awful!! Boring, bland and not to be repeated. To be fair this did not ruin our evening but I would appeal to the venue to offer at least 2 vegetarian dishes and maybe liven up the risotto!! All in all, an excellent hotel for business socialising and I will return )but hope for another dish). Please don’t be put off. You will love this old world and comfortable venue.

I visited the Miskin Manor recently for a family wedding and the first thing that becomes apparent is the beautiful location which it is located in. The outside is a lovely looking venue with what appears to be picturesque grounds, although on the day we visited, it was raining hard all day and we didn't venture outside much to explore. Inside the decor is in keeping with the outside and seems to be well maintained. The owner is a portrait artist and there is quite a lot of random and sometimes freeky looking portraits hanging on the wall around the bar and dining room which he seems to have painted, which deters you from the original character of this building. They could do with some additional internal signage when they are holding functions as there seemed to be confusion to where people were being directed to during the wedding. The function room was adequately sized for the party numbers and my only concern was that the only iluminated fire exits were being blocked by the position of the top table and buffet table during the day. The room was nice although a little pricey at £110 for the night as we have stayed in similar style hotels at a more reasonable rate. The showers in the room seemed to have a mind of there own as you had to leave the bath running for a long period of time to get hot water. This become more apparent with other guests playing musical rooms to share showers with rooms that had hot water!!. The breakfast was a buffet style set up with cold and hot options, but no one seemed to be topping them up on a regular basis as they all seemed to be empty most of the time. The breakfast room was small and we had to wait for a table before we could have breakfast. If they topped up the buffet more regular, this vould easily been avoided. Overall it was a nice pleasant stay, but i would only consider staying again if the room rate was lower

.... is really not acceptable??!! When main courses eventually came they were ok apart from the turkey which was sliced & griddled presumably to reheat and therefore dry. Raspberry choc torte was the highlight but toffee pudding was too thick and stodgy. Duty manager made no apologies at all and had to be encouraged to give us a compensatory discount of just 10%. And finally the decor - the main dining room in this beautiful building has oak panelling which used to go well with white table cloths etc. Now food is served on light coloured malamine tables with wrought iron patio type chairs. Not at all comfortable for a looong lunch. Oh and the oak panelling has been painted over with a bluey grey paint - ych-a-fi - they have spoiled it.

We stayed for 2 nights while giving a seminar in the same venue. Check in was friendly and pain free, our room was large and the bed comfortable. However due to the size of the room the 2 large radiators struggled to heat it to a decent level. The bathroom did have a heated tower rail however that did not work. The shower over the bath on the first morning, and despite running it for over 10 minutes before getting in was barely luke warm, On day 2 it was slightly better. We ate in the bar on the Sunday night as the restaurant is closed and the fish and chips were good. On the Monday night we ate in the restaurant and the meal was at best average and we did mention to the waitress that my wife's lamb done 2 ways one of the ways was inedible. She did say she would mention it to the chef but that was as far as it got! The following morning we had breakfast which was a bit 'iffy' and left me not feeling very well! Loved the decadent decor and the grounds look stunning so understand that it is a very popular wedding venue.

What can I say what a wonderful time we had at our son's wedding, sorry Mrs D Bowers this must have been our wedding, There were a few hiccups but overall we could not fault the way Miskin Manor looked after us. Our pre wedding meal we had to ask if we could order wine because no one asked us and also for steak knives, but the meal was very enjoyable, love that hot spicy soup. The wedding was absolutely fantastic from start to finish and our room was absolutely beautiful (the nest). Thank you Miskin Manor for helping to make it such a joyful occasion.

This hotel has everything going for it in terms of location and setting. But that`s where it stops unfortunately. The problem list: no signs or staff to get you to the dining room entrance; a bemused waiter when you find it and say who you are - `Have you booked a table`?, rather than checking the reservation book; sent off to the lounge bar - `Someone will be through` - they did not materialise; approached bar to find two staff in deep conversation and another drying glasses - all managed to not see me until I eye-balled the latter; an order only taken with difficulty - he did not know what the cocktails were, and had to be told by one of the others, who turned out to be the bar manager; drinks were brought over and were incorrect - a Manhattan was served to my relative which it clearly was not (a tall fruity-looking drink), and my relative pushed it back and said it was an error; the bar lad pushed it back saying `It is, I looked it up in the book`, and this back and fro was completed again before he would take it away; my G&T; was a half-pint glass filled to the top with T and one piece of ice - `There are no limes anywhere in the hotel`, but this was contested by the restaurant manager who then openly was contradicted by the bar manager; no menu arrived - I had to get it, and ditto for the requested wine list (a bar snack menu being supplied in error; the bar manager visited to apologise - ` I will do your next cocktails perfectly, but I hate making them`; the waiter who appeared to take the orders came to the men first and had to be redirected - why does he address people in their late sixties as `guys`?; the starters were very good, but the rolls were sweetish, dry and mass produced (the day before?); the main options were very limited; the wine was good and well presented but at a circa 350% markup; well- done the restaurant manager for trying to set things right with glasses of prosecco. We did no stay for dessert.

No fish goujons...pigs in bkankets only arrived when we sought their presence...despite being on the menu....no bananas for the banana split (adverised on the menu)...no cappucino as the coffee machine was broken! The por waitresses had to deliver the news each time! And then randomly during lunch our littke pot of horseradish was removed from the table, without a word, by a waitress....whilst some of our party were still tucking in to their beef!

Booked a Saturday evening table for four at 7.00-7.30pm. At 7.20 we were offered menus. At 7.30 our orders were taken. At 7.45 we were invited to our table. At about 8.00pm our first courses arrived. My wife had the soup, which she described as "nondescript and flavourless". I had smoked 'salmon and something else' starter....OK, but no better. By 8.40 we finally received our main courses, by which time we were ready to eat the waitress. My main was lamb, as was my wife's. We were served the wrong plates, I got her pink cooked lamb, she was served my over-pink version. My dauphinoise potatoes were undercooked as well as underseasoned. Generally it was all pretty tasteless. Our guests were deeply underwhelmed,as were we. I had no dessert, my wife ordered a Pannacotta. What she was served we still don't know, it was like white chocolate/clotted cream in a thin shell of domething. It certainly didn't wobble. So......if you want to dine with a room full of wedding-guest chldren squawking endlessly as you do so, book here on a Saturday. If you want flavoursome, well cooked and well presented food served in good time go ANYWHERE but here. Awful. It wasn't even cheap.

Despite booking and receiving confirmation on the 20th January I found out yesterday when for some reason I called to check reservation that it had not been booked. After some discussion they found us a table for 6 but demanded our menu choices and full payment immediately. This did not start my experience on the best foot but as it was Mothers Day and both sets of parents were traveling I did not feel I had much choice. Despite this auspicious start I decided to go with an open mind. The food was mediocre at best and the service was at times farcical. We had to ask for basic condiments on the table, were interrupted several times for plates to be cleared even though it was clear people were still eating. We even had to send the coffee back as it was weak, made several requests for cream not milk, were given a pot of tea even though we didn't ask for it and had to ask for teaspoons. Extremely disappointed and made the Mothers Day experience a huge letdown. We will not be visiting again and I would not recommend.

We took my grandma here for afternoon tea. The room is gorgeous and the crockery was lovely. There is no tea menu and when I asked the waiter what teas there are he was pretty vague - English breakfast or some fruity ones... I ordered the savoury tea, which sounds delicious on the menu but compared to the normal high tea was pretty stingy. Where the menu says there are two savoury scones it ought to say two small croutons (this is not hyperbole). I ordered some fruit scones to boost my slim pickings and left the 'savoury scones' . The high tea however was evidently generous and apparently delicious. I will go again but will have high tea, when I fancy a savoury tea I'll go to the Park Plaza in Cardiff town centre for the gentleman's afternoon tea, which is delicious.

Met up with friends for lunch, and dined in the lounge on our preference. The setting there is fabulous with a sense of history around you. It is lovely just to sink back in a chair in that main lounge and savor your coffee. The food was quite good. I had the cajun salmon salad. A good-sized portion, although the salmon was more blackened than spicy cajun, although that was fine by me. Another in our group had the same and also enjoyed it. One person had chicken Caesar salad and enjoyed it very much. He does not like anchovies and gave them to me--I can tell you there must have been 10 anchovies in that salad! Nice! One had fish and chips--big portions and looked delicious. We were all happy with our food and drink. They let us linger and chat as long as we wished. When they brought out coffee afterward, there were no biscuits. We were told chef was just finishing a fresh batch and they would be brought when ready. A few minutes later, out come 4 fat cookies, still warm from the over, soft and yummy. We were all impressed. Beautiful setting, friendly and efficient service, good food and drink. Quite pleased and would return.

The hotel is is lovely grounds(even in winter) and has comfortable, relaxing furnishing. Which was just as well as we had a long-ish wait, considering there were only two other couples there. My husband's fish and chips and friends' burgers got the "thumbs-up" in terms of taste and portion size, but I was less than thrilled with my shepherd;s pie, which turned out to be a load of mince with some creamed potato piped on top. And somehow most of the veg was al dente, except the soggy sprouts (yuk!).Service was impeccable and our drinks generous in size, the house wines in particular were of a high standard. Enjoying a drink whilst looking out to the gardens is a delight. Yesterday evening we could watch a mist forming in the stream bank at the end of the gardens and it was truly beautiful.I have not been disappointed with dinner on any occasion here and yesterday was no exception. With visitors from France, we are always keen to impress our local Welsh cuisine and Miskin Manor does that perfectly. The rack of lamb and the venison were excellent and the Welsh cheese really went down well. Well done Miskin, I have now booked 21 nights of rooms for October on the back of this meal.

Food and service really average. Not great and not dreadful. The surroundings and scenery are outstanding and make this place special, but the staff don't. I went for a special family dinner, 7 of us. The waiter didn't know what some of the dishes were on the menu and didn't offer to find out. No one asked us if we were enjoying our meal (or if it was ok afterwards). Drinks were forgotten and had to be re ordered. Meals were brought out and given to the wrong people as they told us incorrectly what the dishes were. The staff were pleasant but inexperienced, not a crime but left me feeling underwhelmed by the occasion. The food was also underwhelming. As tasty as a home cooked meal, no more exceptional than that, so not dreadful but not outstanding. The meat dishes came with no vegetables at all. Which is very odd. The dishes looked odd and un finished as they had meat, potatoes and a sauce/gravy but no veg therefore no colour! The waiter should have advised about this. I wouldn't book this venue again, but I would go there if someone else invited me, I wouldn't boycott it. The gardens are glorious and peaceful.

I ordered the lamb, well done. When we were shown to our table by the window overlooking the garden warm bread rolls arrived, freshly baked, with a choice of white or brown. Our first course of smoked salmon and avocado arrived. So delicious but too much for me and they willingly packed up the spare for me to take home for the cat. Then the main course arrived. I have never tasted such tender lamb perfectly cooked to my exacting requirements. I love lamb but hate it pink or bloody. I'm familiar with Miskin Manor, having attended 2 weddings there, one of which was my sons. So I thought a visit for my wife's birthday when it's not quite as busy would be perfect. It was.Apparently a wedding was cancelled which left the hotel quite quiet for a Saturday in May, but it was our gain.Choice of food was good and was presented well, my lamb was perfectly cooked and the vegetables provided were cooked perfectly too.Eating in these big stately manor houses can be a problem if staff are busy but this dinner the staff were attentive, friendly and helped to make our experience relaxing and enjoyable. We had a dinner b&b package which allowed us to share a customery cognac late into the night before retiring to our comfortable room.Breakfast was equally delightful, top quality food perfectly cooked and staff ever present to help.Perfect restaurant .Prices of the whole package was very reasonable, and wine was a typical £22 a bottle upwards which is normal for most restaurants.Added advantage of the Miskin manor, is the fabulous gardens, which allow a pre/post dinner stroll. We will return.
