We stayed three nights in room eight, which is in need of refurbishment. The bed frame was covered in a leatherette fabric, which was worn away along the sides of the bed, and scraped on the headboard. The top of the headboard was dusty and only clean where pillows had been placed against it. I found a long dark hair on a pillow. The net curtains hung around 20cm longer than the curtains. When pulled aside, they exposed distemper on the wall. The extractor fan in the bathroom did not work, and there were signs of treated black mould around the small bathroom window. The grouting in the floor tiles varied in colour between black, white, orange, and grey. There were a couple of cracked floor tiles. Walking down the stairs to the reception & dining room there is an area with boxes displayed on it. This was very dusty. Breakfast was okay except for when I ordered scrambled eggs on toast as the bread was burnt on the bottom. However, the staff that we met were friendly.

Incredible view from the hotel. A bit noisy from main road, but that is to be expected .

During our 4week adventure in Uk & Ireland we found this the most pleasant of all the accommodations we stayed in. Quiet, the window opened so we could have fresh air, the breakfast was very comprehensive and great value, and the staff were quietly friendly and helpful.

Had Room 25, overlooking parking lot in backyard. Not exactly best scenary outide of window but such is inherent nature of many such buildings in UK. The room got open view with no traffic noise. Room interior and service decent enough for a family run hotel inside an old building. Bathroom basin was partially blocked and they had it cleared the next day when told. I think the blockage was down stream so the work was done probably outside the room. Breakfast was nice surprise. Buffet table with cold dishes and toasts etc AND then you can order English breakfast cooked to order. By default, they do not enter your room during your stay (except perhaps long stay?) but you can leave soiled towels outside the door and they will put daily supply in a bag (paper roll, cookie, coffee, tea bags etc) and clean towels outside the door. They did say daily cleaning in room can be done on request. Am fine with the arrangment. Carpark spaces (free... I booked direct) are not sufficient during weekend when occupancy rate was high. If you cannot find a space, you can park in front of other cars and leave your key to staff. Works well enough for me. Parking lot is secured by an electric gate so you don't have to put key into a faraday bag to prevent theft. The driveway into hotel is walled on both sides. As traveller from Asia, I find it to be a bit narrow even to my hatchback rental car. But then I saw other guests parked a Volvo SUV so I guess it depends on skill and confidence. They also have 3 rooms, I think, in a separate one storey "cottage" type building in backyard. The doors open to the parking lot. May be fine to some guests but I can imagine some others may not prefer. It also means a short open distance (<15m) to reach main building for breakfast and you may need an umbrella for that when raining heavily. I hope one is provided in those rooms. Proximity to city center and the Shambles is excellent. A decent size supermarket is 1 to 2 mins walk away across the street. Overall a great choice and good value at pretty good location (with carpark!) if you are not bothered by some minor inevitable quirks of old (but in this case well preserved) buildings.

What lovely people , very helpful, attentive and happy. I had room 4 with a 4 poster bed(lovely surprise). The room was very dated but it is a Victorian building so not unexpected .the room was very clean which is very important to me. Overall a lovely stay. Thank you

Good quality food ( great bacon in particular!) freshly cooked. Comfy sofas, great surroundings (it's in a motorbike shop) and decent choice of food and drink. Recommended.

Didn't stay there, I'm staying locally. Tried to book a table for Sunday roast but was told that they no longer serve meals. Also their website shows a menu and no mention of food no longer being served. We did stay for a drink and the atmosphere was friendly. It is a child and dog friendly pub.

Amazing food, amazing staff, amazing service. The meat was cooked to perfection every single time and the salad bar was well stocked. Our server KJ never let our plates be empty and we left with very very full bellies! 12/10!!

My only criticism is the instant coffee! However I did see a coffee machine, and suspected it was out of order. Everyone was pleasant and cheerful, and the kitchen welcomes motorcyclists.
