Millies Coffee Shop & Tea Rooms & Millies the Restaurant in Erewash

Once a month the Curves ladies gym in Ilkeston meet at Millies and have a great time. They look after us well, even though they have to rearrange the seating to accommodate us all, usually 20 or so. Thanks to all the staff who looked after us today.x

Outstanding cafe , excellent staff . I definitely recommend Millies . I have never had a disappointing experience at Millies.

Well… we got there at just before 3pm. There was only one empty table where we asked if we could sit. The staff said they would be over soon. Nearly 30 minutes later, whilst sat at the table closest to the counter we hadn’t been served, spoken to or even looked at. Another couple walked in and sat down, the staff were straight over to serve them. In all honesty, the staff were chaotic, disorganised and did not look like they wanted to be there. Seriously disappointing

We visited millers cafe for a toasted sandwich and tea we had to wait over half hour my husband asked how much longer we had to wait we was told it would be another 5 minutes because it had just gone into the toaster we said that it was not good having to wait over half hour no oppoligy just said that they was short staff will not visit this cafe again until they get there act together

We called for a bite to eat after 3pm in the café. They were preparing to clean and tidy up as it was late. We fancied just a basic cob or chips with Sausage or bacon. They didn't have either (it was late in the afternoon) so we settled for egg, chips and mushrooms. They said they only had scrambled eggs, so we settled for that even though we preferred fried egg. The scrambled egg was very very dry. The presentation was good.

Very disappointed with visit. The staff are polite and friendly but the food is not good. The fish fingers on my sandwich were still frozen in the middle. I took it back and they reheated it, my wife ordered a panini which was served 15 minutes later. We could hear the staff saying that the grill had been turned off and they were arguing amongst themselves. One of the staff was using a carving knife cleaning out food from the grooves in one of the counter tops and ignoring customers. Not a very pleasant visit.

Have always had a good meal in the restaurant. However it was closed today so visited the coffee shop. The unsmiling assistants had a brusque manner. Asked for full payment for meal when bringing drinks. Menu pricing for jacket potatoes was misleading. The food was mediocre.

Should have listened to the 'dreadful ' review and not visited. The whole building is grubby, badly signposted and very unwelcoming. We sat next to a window in the restaurant and the sill was disgustingly filthy with peeling paintwork and dusty horrible artificial flowers. I dread to think what the state of the kitchen was like!! We were asked to pay for the meal on delivery of our drinks which is understandable in this era of 'fine and dash' but had to ask whether we'd been forgotten after a more than 30 minute wait for the food to arrive. When it did eventually come my husband's 5mms thick burger was difficult to cut as it was so rubbery and tough and one slice of my supermarket sliced bread toasted sandwich was the crust! We aren't massive fans of the likes of Starbucks and Costa and much prefer non-chain places but this restaurant wants to seriously pull it's socks up to meet even basic expectations. Awful experience completed with a trip to the dilapidated loo where the toilet was constantly flushing. I'll leave it to you to decide if it's worth the trip!?!?

The lift wasn’t working. That should have rung warning bells to start with! So, we went into the restaurant with great difficulty (no disabled access, stairs only. The menu was inviting and we decided on soup, only one choice today, leek and potato. Ok that would be lovely, A pasta sized bowl full of slices of leek floating in watery liquid with a layer of mush, presumably potato, lurking underneath. This was totally tasteless and inedible! The bread came with a pot of margarine! When we said we couldn’t eat it, it was taken away without a word and we were told we could have free desserts. There wasn’t much choice so we settled for a slice of Bakewell tart and a raspberry and white chocolate roulade. The tart was welded to the bowl and the jam burnt black! The ‘roulade’ turned out to be a pink and white meringue with cream! We left!

Great food. Serve was fast and food hot. A smaller size breakfast would be good as the menu option is a lot of food

Had afternoon tea today 12th dec to celebrate my mums 90th birthday & what a lovely tea it was, we had two savoury stands & one sweet & more than enough for 6 people with some to take home, service was excellent & food tasty & fresh, a lovely family afternoon, thank you

Popped in after a shopping trip, looked quite nice on the top floor of the centre. Two flat white coffees and two slices of cake. £13.10 The coffee was boiling hot., the cakes looked lovely but dry and not very nice, the slice we was given was quite thin and definitely not worth £3.95. Don’t think I come again especially when the first experience isn’t positive.

Always take the kids to Millies cafe for a milkshake and cake for a treat. The cakes are so yummy and soft and always a variety of flavours. They look after the kids so well and also like to look out the windows at the trains. My personal favourite is the tuna cheese toasties and the coleslaw on the side is beautiful 😍

Went for a breakfast and ordered two full English breakfasts. After a couple of days, we were violently sick and violently had diarrhea due to this meal. Never going to eat here again.

Love going to Armstrong Mill and usually have a coffee in Millie’s cafe. Due to it being busy we decided to go up to Millie’s Restaurant as it wasn’t very busy. Sat down and waited about 10 minutes to be served which was fine. Ordered a can and a chip cob. The drink came pretty quickly but after 30 minutes waiting for a chip cob we nearly gave up and left. I asked the waitress how long it would be she said she would find out. Another 10 minutes and we finally got our chip cobs. The waitress seemed like she couldn’t be bothered. When we asked for sauces she came back and dropped them on the table without saying a word. When I turned round she was on her phone which must have been more important than offering good customer service. Then we heard someone swearing in the kitchen. I’m not one to complain but it seemed like there were to many young adults that either need to be re-trained or have better leadership. It’s a shame as we both found the food to be tasty and good value

Plenty of food, plus plenty of flies. Disappointed today and left food due to flies walking over our breakfast. Good value, but needs to sort out fly issue. Tables although clean feel sticky. Will go again to give a chance to them, but not impressed today.

5 of us went to Millies for a milkshake,we was all disappointed,after waiting over 10 minutes for someone to take the order we then had a long wait for the shakes,also was told one flavour wasn't available, The milkshakes came out one by one because they seem to only have 1 blender,they are not one bit thick like creamy milkshakes we were expecting,the salted caramel was sickley,far too much flavouring,it's just semi skimmed milk with a shot of flavouring topped with squirty cream, the last drink to be bought out was our 2 year old's,that was just milk with a crushum shot in it and cream,very boring al Carrot cake was decent,just a shame the shakes were very bog standed

I went to Millie's Coffee shop today. I sat at ta le 5 and waited for about 10 minutes for someone to take my order. There were 4 girls behind the counter just talking and ignoring everything. One of them saw me look at my watch and picked up a pad and came and took my order - a large Latte and a toasted tee cake . I then waited for another 10 minutes before the coffee arrived - a large cup with half coffee and 50% froth. I had finished the coffee long before the Toasted tea Cake arrived. The tea cake was lukewarm, the butter (2 small warm portions of melted butter and a tiny portion of jam arrived). The verdict - service 0 out of 10, quality 1 out of 10 and customer service is non existent and not worthy of marking. A total lack of supervision of young badly trained and and totally uninterested and uncaring staff. Never again.

Sticky tables piled with plates and cups, staff who can't lift their eyes from their phones and serve you in their own time - a visit to Millie's is an experience but not in a good way. It's like cafes used to be in Britain before people realised that customer service was a thing.

Visited Millies before and the food was out of this world fantastic so it was a natural choice second time around. Highly delighted we both ordered the salmon and dill fishcakes, salad and buttered new potatoes. When served it was one rather sad looking fishcake...

We have eaten here a few times and never been disappointed. The milkshakes are fantastic and always beautifully presented. They have a good range of meals and snacks and the industrious staff are always friendly.

Really pleased with the unexpected extras which made mums day. They put balloons on the table and brought out a slice of birthday cake with a candle on. Food was good value for money so all in all will definitely go back.

Took my daughter for a treat after school. The milkshakes are absolutely amazing! Such attention to detail with loads of cream and sweets/chocolate on top! Staff are all very friendly and made a fuss of my daughter. Definitely recommend.

I visted millies cafe with my little girl and her friend which they both had afternoon tea, it was excellent,the service was amazing, my daughter has multiple food allergies so is restricted on what she can have to eat ! but she didnt miss out at all at millies! They catered for her with everything sandwiches treats ice creams etc the kids and myself were very happy with the service and cant wait to book again! They made it an extra special day

Three people behind the counter going about their business! Not one of them acknowledged 4 of us waiting! No apologies for the delay in service, just chatting amongst themselves, milkshakes and cake was ok when we finally got them!! Only 3 other people in the place so they were hardly busy! Celebrated my baby shower in the restaurant and it was lovely! The food was amazing and there was plenty of it, welcome drinks and attentive service. Games, balloons and food all sorted by Millies so there was no stress for the organiser. Would recommend for an event!

Hidden gem. Afternoon buffet was excellent incorporating a wide range to suit any pallet, Nothing appeared too much trouble for the staff. Venue clean and layout was perfect for the baby shower.

We first discovered this little gem whilst shopping and decided to give it a try. It exceeded our expectations on quality and value for money. We have had lunch here a few times now and are always impressed with the quality of the food and generous portions. They have a varied menu and a great selection of tempting cakes. The milk shakes, which come in a wide variety of flavours, are a work of art. The staff are always friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

After a long walk round the various departments in Armstrong Mills this little cafe is a welcome oasis. Cakes cookies and good coffee well worth a visit.

We visit here at least once a week. The food is delicious, plenty of choice to choose from. Great menu, lovely home baked cakes, and the staff are so friendly and cheerful. Great place to go for a meal.

We visited Millie’s restaurant for a 4 course Christmas dinner and what amazing food we received! The food was delicious and everything was cooked to perfection! The staff couldn’t do enough for us and nothing was too much trouble. We go to Millie’s quite often and the food is always so tasty and home made! Big shout out to Sarah in the restaurant who works so hard every time we go and always provides such excellent service!!

Visited Millie’s last Sunday with my mum and daughter. We had the 4 course Christmas menu and it was delicious. The staff were very friendly , nothing is to much trouble . Would highly recommend, for there home cooked food or just a cup of their lovely coffee and a piece of cake!

Yummy hot chocolate on a cold day with gorgeous caramel layer cake beautifully served with toffee drizzle and fresh berries. Staff were friendly, attentive and humorous.

We attended a baby shower there yesterday and it was AMAZING! Not only were the staff mega helpful with serving (extremely attentive) and inventive with games (who can forget the dummy bobbing) but the food was tasty, well served and delicious.

I have been promising my partner an afternoon tea for a couple of years now. So, on her birthday I took her to Millies. We were certainly not disappointed at all. The selection of sandwiches on the plate was exceptional, and, to be quite honest could have fed at least 3. The staff are all helpful and polite. I shall certainly be booking again.

Had a beautiful Christmas meal with work at Millies restaurant. No expense spared for the quality of the food. It makes you wonder how they make any money when you receive 3 courses plus a coffee and mince pie to finish, all for £18.95. Food outstanding quality and beautiful, Staff are very friendly too :-)

Went here for lunch yesterday on a visit to Armstrong’s Mill in Ilkeston. We had visited some months ago but only for coffee though at the time we liked the look of the menu. Yesterday I had liver and onions with plenty of vegetables, all nicely cooked, followed by a really good Eton mess. My wife had grilled sea bass fillet again with veg and a slice of carrot cake. Service was efficient and friendly and we will definitely return.

Lovely hidden gem! Great service and welcoming stuff plus great food. Would definitely recommend, especially if you’re waiting for your car to be serviced or MOT at the nearby Vauxhall!

We had great pleasure attending a Christening on 20/10/2019 followed by an outstanding luncheon party at Millie’s Restaurant Ilkeston, Derbyshire. The table and cutlery layout was very professional. The full Sunday roast was beautifully prepared and served piping hot. There was ample extra available if needed.There was a choice of 3 delicious sweets, the portions were extremely generous.Following the food and drink we enjoyed the entertainment and dancing.Altogether a most memorable experience and we highly recommend this venue.Ernest & Ann Quigley

We will definitely be back. The place had slipped previously and food had got too expensive. Now you can’t argue about the prices or the freshness of the food. We didn’t expect a lot for the price but we were pleasantly surprised.The menu looked really good. We will be back to sample more of it. Quiche and a salad, two teas and two soft drinks for £17. Today I attended a baby shower here. When I was told I was going to a restaurant inside Armstrong Mills I didn’t quite know what to expect (I thought it was just for shopping!) But what an absolute hidden gem. We couldn’t have wished for a better place. Delicious food, amazing staff, who also decorated the room and created a wonderful atmosphere. I urge everyone to visit, you won’t be disappointed.

We visited here, for lunch, meals were 2 fishcakes, 1 Steak Pie and a Jacket Potato, all meals with trimmings. Finally just 2 of us had Lemon merange pie and apple pie and custard. Excellent food, good portions. Will certainly be back, we felt sorry for the lady at the upper cafe as she had to do nearly everything on her own, but despite that, we did not have to wait too long, well done...

Visited Millie’s for the first time today and was very impressed with the service I was provided with. The menu is large and varied so there was plenty of choice and didn’t leave me disappointed. My food was short to arrive freshly cooked on my table which I thoroughly enjoyed, worth every penny.The waitresses was all lovely and made me feel welcome, the service was appreciated and I will without a doubt return again.

We called in for a break whilst wandering around Armstrong Mills. Both the coffee and the scones were good. It's little eccentric with the scone delivered on a slate as a plate and a chimney shape mug for the coffee - no problem just a comment.

Where does a man go who cannot cook and will not cook go to be looked after on a regular basis? There is no local competition. He goes to see Millie.I have been a regular attender at the restaurant since the day it opened. For lunch I am served salmon steak cooked in lemon juice with my five a day. The food is consistently excellent - and I am there twice a week - the staff look after me and there is a newspaper to read with no rush to leave. And if I am out in the evening and need something light in the day then it is bacon, brie and cranberry sandwiches with Millie in her coffee shop - all at very competitive prices. For what else could a man ask? Keep up the good work.
