I’ve been to Millers a few times now and it never disappoints – the food is always fresh, perfectly cooked, and absolutely delicious. On my latest visit, we were served by Jon, who was brilliant from start to finish – friendly, attentive, and made us feel really welcome. It’s rare to find such consistently excellent service and food, but Millers gets it right every time. A proper gem in York – highly recommend! :)

This evening spent £8.20 on a regular haddock. Large goldfish more like. Won't be darkening your door again anytime soon

Had to wait a long time to get served they were busy with phone orders, was there 25 minutes, food not as good as what people say,

We usually have takeaway from Millers, but my daughter has been desperately wanting to eat in, so we booked for us to eat in on Friday as a treat. We were greeted with a smile, the server Jon was so friendly, he went out of his way to make my daughter smile. We had a lovely table, everything was presented clean/tidy. When the food came it was presented lovely, it was so fresh and absolutely gorgeous! We will definitely eat in more often and I have to say our server Jon, really made us want to return, he really did go out of his way to make sure we felt valued and welcome. Thank you Millers, we will be back :) x

My first visit, Thurs evening at ~2040 Order: Takeaway fish & chips with curry sauce. No offer of, nor opportunity to add salt and vinegar prior to order being bagged and served up. As this is an award winning chippy I reasoned that I'd let the fish and chips speak for themselves without salt and vinegar. After all, I did have the curry sauce. Unfortunately, with the fish being over cooked it was wholly disappointing. A chore to eat rather than the treat I'd hoped for. With the price exceeding the Whaler, you expect similar if not better quality. Certainly not on this occasion.

Excellent fish and chips in Haxby, north of York. Only had take away and usually a wait despite ordering online. Like that they have smaller portions for the elderly/children. Limited parking..

Surprisingly disappointed today. Fish was overcooked and dry, the chips cold tasteless. All four of us thought this was the case. It is very unusual for us to throw food away, but we did today.

Lovely venue, to pop into with friends and have a good Sunday lunch.

Ordered Light Bite to takeaway. Fish was dry and batter overcooked, did not enjoy! Have ate in on several occasions and this did not compare. Disappointed, Haxby.

Came here for dinner during our short stay in Haxby. Ordered the haddock fish, which was delicious! And the size of a normal portion was even too much for me. Waitress was really kind :)

Millers Fish & Chips is a traditional fish and chip shop. The fish is cooked fresh to order, and the portions are very generous. It has a restaurant as well as a takeaway option. The fish and chips are top quality the staff are very friendly and the service is quick. There is a customer car park and a covered seating area. Definitely one of the best fish and chip shops I have visited recently.

Its not the best but workable. Just as any other fish and chips shop. This place gets crowded evening times and with no proper parking its hard for people from other areas to come settle in. And unfortunately they did not have the dessert that day which i was looking forward to

Basic but tidy. Pleasant staff. Good fish, but the chips were pale and a bit watery, as opposed to nicely fried with brown edges .

First time visiting Millers and won’t be back, having seen so many online reviews and the high praises given we thought we were sure to get a great takeaway, We ordered Haddock and chips ( twice ) and were quickly served and the food was with us quickly, however we were not offered the option of salt or vinegar but just handed a stapled closed bag. Once we started eating we quickly realised the chips were under cooked and the Haddock as not been given time to drain, the grease from the fish was all over the undercooked chips, we ate what we could but most of the two meals went into the bin. This has to be one of the worst fish and chips we’ve ever had in Yorkshire. Perhaps it was just bad luck but we won’t be back.

We go to millers about once a month. The staff are always very welcoming, friendly and it has a family atmosphere. The food is spot on each time we visit. In my opinion it is the best chip shop in the York area.

Had the chance to try the fish and chips when they came to Osaka in Japan. Lord knows I’ve tried to find good fish and chips in Japan. Some places do okay but when I ate the fish and chips from here It reminded me of what I was missing. Big chunky chips and a crisp fish it was heavenly, almost made me move back home to Britain it was so good. Took me back to when I was a kid in Clitheroe eating fish and chips my Grandad would buy. Sadly my grandads mind isn’t there today and the chippys gone but this place and the fantastic delicious fish and chips helped bring those memories back. Look forward to making the detour to visit the shop next time I’m I grace Britain with my presence.

It’s a truly excellent fish restaurant, the staff are both friendly and competent and the food is uniformly delicious. So why not five stars? the truth is that, in common with almost every other fish shop in the area, it seems impossible to be able to buy Plaice. It’s still to be had down south, so why not up here in the North. That would make it a 6*!!

A while since I've been here. V. Good chips, peas . The large fish was good but batter was thin and a bit soggy which meant fish was a tad dry. Still tasty though. Its still worth a visit .

Never had a bad experience always good food and service

Ordered delivery, was told 40 mins. Rang after an hour, told 'driver on way' waited another 20 mins to ring back and be told the same. Food finally arrived and was stoned cold 🥶 (didn't order cold fish but got it anyway)

We have eaten here twice now - we have booked for the restaurant on a Thursday as this is the day that they have gluten-free options available (my daughter is coeliac) and she loves it too, especially because she can also have the curry sauce and gravy! The quality of the fish and chips is excellent, they are light and fluffy and the chips are not greasy. It is well-priced and a great place for a meal before going to to Clifton Moor to the cinema. The staff are really friendly - 5 stars all round. The loo is also amazingly clean and has won awards!

Having booked a table for tea in the restaurant only half an hour before we arrived, we had a warm welcome from a brilliant member of staff..Scott, he looked after us and made sure we got everything we ordered. The fish and chips ( and scampi) were all freshly cooked and absolutely lovely. We will definitely be back.

Really delicious food and the staff are really helpful and friendly. Rhe chicken loaded fries were amazing. Reasonable price well worth a visit.

2024 5 years since COVID allowed us to travel! And I am very pleased to say that this year we made it to Haxby and Millers Fish & Chips. Now they have a special take away window for pre orders, and a special day [Thursdays] for gluten free orders]. As a Dairy Free person I can still enjoy the Fish n Chips. All perfectly cooked. Good quality tasty fish served with a smile. It doesn't get much better than that! Roll on people whatever will we discover in 2025? 2019 Returning for our annual visit to Haxby [from Australia] having followed their rise to claim the prize for the best fish and chips in the UK I am pleased to say that local service is still excellent as are the fish and chips. Gluten and milk free choice available, cooked separately to avoid cross contamination. Recommend pre order by phone to avoid queues.

We visited Millers at the Haxby location. May helped us with some recommendations at the Haxby location. She was very friendly and helpful and looked after us during our visit. In fact every time a member of staff, including the owner - David, walked by they always smiled and said hello. Such a friendly bunch here. You can tell they care about their customers. The food here is incredible! We wish we lived closer!!! We took Mays recommendation and had the fish and chip burrito and the chicken loaded chips. Oh my that Burrito!!! I was a bit hesitant slightly to try it. But Phil was like we are having that! I’m glad we did. We have never eaten anything like this before. It was sensational! The homemade tartar sauce with the crispy “scraps” (bits of deep fried fish batter) just made this. The fish was fresh and flaky and so good! A must try if you visit! The loaded chips were delicious too. In fact these were one of our first posts when we started this food account. So we couldn’t not have it again. A hint of spice and loaded with flavour and crispy chicken. These are great loaded chips!!

I call here quite often now to treat myself after work. Amazing quality food with friendly welcoming service. I eat in at the restaurant which is always a pleasure.

Excellent service, the best fish and chips in York and it’s not close! I chose to eat in and the restaurant service and atmosphere was sensational- I ordered a portion of the salt and pepper squid along with cod and chips and it came quickly and was perfectly cooked.

I ordered a takeaway cod and chips and a grilled haddock from millers in Haxby and it was so delicious! The service was super quick and all the staff greeted with smiles and were very helpful :) I would recommend to all!!

after talking to nick the drummer at the memorial d day evening, he gave me lots of imfo of what the chippy is doing, so tonight I gave it a go lol, haddock+chips, chicken loaded salt pepper, battered sausage+chips, and scraps, well everything was gorgouse and red hot, and the young delivery lad was so polite and cheerful,,, Top Job millers 👍

As a long standing customer Millers fish and chips is the best. I especially like that you don't stay the same but constantly changing to move with the times. The app makes it very convenient but also very tempting...

Just wanted to say we came for lunch last Saturday in haxby and everything was perfect, the service was amazing and your fish and chips and squids are the best in York! Flew all the way here from Singapore to reminisce the wonderful times mum, dad and I were last here in 2018! Sadly mum has passed on and only dad and I returned here. Was a little emotional during dinner because of the great time we had previously and brought back vivid memories of the time with mum. Really enjoyed ourselves with a jumbo Haddock fish and chips, with salt and vinegar! The batter is crispy and not oily. The tea for 2 with milk and sugar was lovely too! We also had an ice cream and this caramel honeycomb was a good dessert. They did a little renovation and the place still looks cozy and really comfortable too! The staff were so friendly from the ones at the cooking front counters at the take away to the staff serving us in the dine in area, and he even took time to speak with us. We truly love the service! Millers really held a good big part of my memory with mum and not sure if we can make it back here again in our lifetime, but we definitely hope everyone can come and support them!

Having tried a lot of fish and chips in the York area over the years, Millers is always the one I go back to and will happily take a 40 minute round trip to go there instead of more local ones. The staff are attentive, polite and friendly and the food is very good quality, the fish is always fresh, the batter light and never too oily or ‘heavy’. Portion sizes are good and I’m definitely never left hungry. The sauces are really solid too (I love the curry sauce) and other options on the menu like the squid are a nice change.

Just wanted to pass on my thanks to team Millers for Good Friday, I ordered my Jumbo Haddock & Chips & my friend had the light bite meal. When I ordered, I was shocked at a 90-minute wait. However, I went with it as I wanted the best fish & chips in the area. That 90 minutes is a testament to Millers. It says that everybody is wanting a piece of Millers, everybody knows they are getting quality Fish & Chips. The timing was absolutely spot on & I was even given a half of beer for my wait. The Fish & Chips, as.always, did not disappoint. Thank you. You had a hard service last night & I hope you all had a beer at the end. You certainly deserved it!! Again, a massive well done for a difficult service, you were great!!

My grandson and I had Haddock chips and mushy peas today. The staff where so lovely and helpful and the food was amazing I would give it a 10 out of 10 without a doubt and would highly recommend it was the best fish and chips I have had in a very long time. This was hands down the best fish n chips we’ve ever had. The place is spotless the service is excellent and the food was just amazing thick perfectly cooked cod and the batter was light and exceptional and the homemade tartare 😱. My friend had Haddock which was also exceptional! Sam the server was polite kind and on his game thank you for a real holiday treat if we lived nearer we’d be here ever week but Oxford is a bit far to come 😉 can’t recommend highly enough

Constantly small portions for the money. We have tried food from here a few times and you definitely don't get value for money, especially if you buy fish and chips, it's not a full portion of chips. Heworth Plaice portions are huge and cheaper and delicious . A few of our neighbours and friends agree regarding the portion sizes and have ordered from elsewhere. Shame, could be a lovely local chippy if it didn't feel like you were getting ripped off all the time 😔

For the best fish and chips in York, get yourselves to Millers 🤤 We went to their OG restaurant / takeaway in Haxby to try some of their menu and we were so impressed, everything was super high quality and cooked to perfection. 🐟🍟 Jumbo Haddock & Chips - The haddock had so much flavour, it was meaty and just how we like it! As for the batter, it was light, crispy and not too greasy. 🍗 Chicken Loaded Chips - Such a nice addition, chippy chips covered in fried chicken and a delicious sriracha mayo. 🦑 Salt & Pepper Panko Squid Rings - Perfectly cooked, not chewy, flavoursome and the perfect amount of spice. We also went overboard and tried all of the sauces, their curry sauce is so good, perfectly balanced, deliciously sweet and spicy! We loved our visit and we definitely recommend anyone in the York area to try them out if they haven’t already! Staff are super friendly and everything was top notch!

Great fish and chips! They have a little restaurant area which is great to sit in if you have time. I have been regularly for the last 6 months and it has never dropped in quality. Great staff as well. If passing definitely drop in!

Where to start with this chippy. Simply the best around! eaten here multiple times and never had a "miss". friendly service and beyond excellent food. eat in or take away. They run out from time to time, but then tomorrow is fresh, right? superb. After visiting once again on my three yearly cycle! The food remains superb, and the restaurant at the back has been updated to something a little more contemporary and seemingly better lit. Server was a friendly young man who couldn't do enough to help, and everyone behind the fryer had a warm welcome and big smile. There is ample parking to the rear, and though doesn't feel in any way threatening, could do with some more lighting.

To January 6 I came lunch time for light bite meal nearly £8 chips and peas fine fish was about 5cm big I was so disserpointed it was not millers standard in fact it was not big enough to taste 😋

Astonishing to think that an award-winning fish and chip shop is located in the town of Haxby, and has been for the last 60 years or so. The new setup works perfectly, all food is cooked to order, which does mean a slight delay in being able to walk out with "one of each" (typically 10 to 15 mins). This slight delay is nothing when you think that it means you are getting freshly cooked food, not something that has been under the hot lamps for ages. The entry to the chip shop is as it has been for the last 40 years, but inside you will immediately notice a difference as there is only half the standing room that they used to be. The reason for this is simple - the other half is for the lads and lasses who delivered the food around the town on their push bikes. An excellent idea by the current owner. The restaurant still exists towards the rear of the chip shop, and everything for this is also freshly cooked as you would imagine. The tables and chairs are neatly arranged, and are in immaculate condition. The decor has improved greatly, and is now pleasant on the eye as opposed to an extension of the waiting area. When ordering your food, don't forget that you are in an award-winning facility that is based in Yorkshire. Portions are large, and you mustn't forget the obligatory side order of "scraps". For those who don't know what this is, it is as it says it is, the scraps of batter that fall from the fish whilst it is frying. As the batter is an amazing quality that is not greasy, take the opportunity to have an extra taste without them being wrapped around something. Believe me, this is a quite common side order in the area – just as gravy or mushy peas are. On a good day, you can sit outside of the picnic tables and enjoy your food. If you are ordering to take home, and this is within a 20 minute journey, the food will still be wonderful and warm when you get home. Millers has been a landmark in the village now town for many a year, and I am so pleased that it is still going, and it is forever improving itself.

Simply the best on the area.the fish is all sustainably caught, the app makes ordering a queue free experience, the servers are always cheerful and helpful. They even provide a heated space under an outside umbrella to keep you dry and warm if you arrive before your food is ready.

*Update - Following some issues with recent orders, Millers have been in touch and were keen to rectify the issues we experienced. As we have been regular customers we do know that what we experienced was just a blip in their usual service and standards and it's not reflective of their norm. It is clear to us how much they value their regular, local customers so thank you to Lewis for reaching out to us.

Millers never disappoints. This time we booked a table were a bit worried to get a call to say that veggie options might not be available that evening. But when we arrived they had gone the extra mile and had fixed issue with veggie equipment, and our veggie daughter loved it. Best chippie no question. Curry sauce is second to none.

+’s The quality of the fish is excellent. Good service too. Without a doubt the best F&C takeaway I’ve had in Yorkshire. ?’s Putting the salt and vinegar in its own packet in the main bag is a waste and doesn’t feel like the right thing to be doing in a waste conscious 2023.

*** Updated *** Following a conversation with Millers, I am confident this was a one off experience. They were genuinely upset that I had had this experience and the passion and care that came across in that call makes me believe that this is not the usual standard of service. Travelled from Leeds to taste this well known fish and chip shops. Ordered both cod and haddock with chips and a bread cake. Price on the higher side I feel. We Watched a promo video before attending, I must say it was completely different to my expectations and not for the good! The fish was fried to order and the amount of oil on the fish was very excessive. The chips were cooked perfect. The mushy peas brilliant however, the curry sauce was very sweet and the gravy was like cement. The bread cake was stale and rock hard, wrapped in clingfilm and very small. The manager at the time lacked professionalism and direction to his younger team.

Unplanned visit however due to York Road works and serious traffic disruption on the ring road we decided to stop and get something to eat. While making our way across the backcroads .i must say that it was Excellent food cooked freash and service the whole experience was a pleasure.. Will recommend to others and if back in the area again I would have no problem eating at this establishment again

Clean pleasant Fish & Chip takeaway facility. Very helpful and polite staff. Unfortunately the chips were tasteless, soggy and I would suggest that they were re-fryed from lunch time left overs. Very disappointed.

Visited the Millers Wooden cabin Fish and chip Kiosk on Parliament Street! Purchased Fish bites and chips, the staff Ruben and Sally ..Saully?? Excuse the spellings! were both really friendly and welcoming, they went through the all the options lemon salt seasoning etc. I nice outdoor dining experience all around! Keep up the good work..👍

They don't do yorkshire fishcakes didn't have pies curry sauce was like Indian curry fish was nice chips were just ok and very expensive

Always a good experience - takeaway prepared within 10 minutes on every occasion which makes collection super simple, and there's even a bespoke delivery service if you're feeling lazy. To top it all off, the food itself is delicious. Millers has a good reputation for a reason!

Took my visiting Parents to their first fish and chips at Millers and what an amazing experience!! Seating was cozy, the staff were super nice and food very tasty! Food portions were good. They offer to cook either in animal fat or vegetable oil which is a plus if you are vegeterian or eat halal. Definitly recommend!

Visited for the first time today and was super impressed. Considering we've lived in York for 10yrs, I don't know why it's taken us so long to try this chippy. 5 star. We'll be back. 👍

Second visit in 3 years. Consistent quality. Very good white haddock. A little small considering supposed to be regular and given the price. Chips very slightly underdone. Excellent service and very clean cafe.

Still living off their award from years ago. Small portion sizes for the price. Burnt chips and soggy batter. We won't be coming back. The owners are nice. But the girls serving always have an attitude.

Fish was very under cooked and the bag of scraps was full of fat when I tipped them on my chips the fat just ran out over my chips and I could not eat them as they were full of fat.

I have used Miller's takeaway for years.Last night was first time eating in the restaurant for a birthday treat 11 people. Food was amazing as always massive fish with best curry sauce around. We ordered from the app at 18:59 when we were on the motorway just coming into York. We got to Haxby at about 19:25 and we got to Millers at 19:30. We waited for 1 hour and 25 minutes for 2 cods and 1 light bite! Not only that, people arrived after us and still received their food before us. Also, they give you options on how you might want your fish to be cooked! I was going to try something new and something i hadn’t had before so i chose cod with rice flour, dipped in milk and well done. 1 hour after we ordered, they THEN tell me that i can’t have, what i have ordered! Why give me options if i can’t have them and make me wait an hour for me to find out! We have eaten from Millers before and waited a maximum of 20 minutes even when it is busy but tonight was absolutely ridiculous and terrible! Other than that, the food was very nice! If not a bit rushed but still nice! They also added 2 small cod fillets for free as well!

Meal in for 4. The food was up to Millers very high standards. Service was with a smile and fast. Prices are value for money. Best chippy in Yorkshire. Highly recommended.
