Food is always good 3rd visit and service is always off the mark but food is good

Best blue steak I've been served for a long time. My fiancé had the sea-bass. Everything was cooked to perfection. Another visit, another beautiful meal. Bourbon chicken for me, rack of ribs for my fiancé. Both meals were fantastic.

Went to Thornhill one yesterday waited an hour and a half food come out called Yorkshire pudding was frozen. Kids burgers was rock solid and burnt. Waiter come over and asked us does she want to her to warm it up even the butter on the steak wasn’t even melted wasn’t even sizzling when you are paying over £70 for a meal you expected to be hot

Disappointing the ribeye was undercooked and 80% fat wouldn’t recommend.

Went recently first time visiting in around two years , was placed between two other couples and immediately felt awkward .. I had a three course meal .. the chicken starter was slightly undercooked . And my main the steak was not the best and the onion Rossi was undercooked in parts too .. there was nearly an hour wait also .. just tad disappointed on the visit .. the waitress was lovely and I did have a lovely dessert ..

Went for a family birthday meal and was so impressed by Kacie our waitress! She went above and beyond for us and really felt welcome! The food was amazing, we all thoroughly enjoyed Will return!

The seating arrangements are terrible, with couples sat side by side in a row with barely any space. This was supposed to be a special treat, it felt like a speed dating set up. You can literally hear everything the couple next to you are saying and can't really speak to each other. Felt very uncomfortable from the start. Food was ok but not great, fries were warm, grilled tomato cold, steak I don't think was an 8oz, I often have 8oz steaks both at home and out; I really don't believe it was an 8oz very small and too salty (as were fries). Certainly wasn't anything special. I asked for water on arrival and my wine glasses and wine list were promptly moved, I only wanted a glass of water to start and would have like a glass of wine a little later. I was never once asked if the food was OK and service although ok, certainly didn't make it feel like a special occasion.

Lovely experience here at lunchtime midweek! We ordered the lunchtime special which was excellent value for a 3 course meal. There were 3 of us and we coincidently wanted the same on the menu. For starters we had the calamari which was cooked really nicely, a 7 ounze rump steak served with onion loaf and chips which was perfect and creme brulle pudding with coffee. It was really good value for the money which was £21 per person. Drinks and sauces were extra but that was expected. I will be returning to have the same again with a different steak sauce.

Booked a table for 2 try to add 1 more person no one can be bothered to answer the phone person on reception when we arrived was useless if they can’t answer the phone or respond to voicemail messages then don’t deserve my customer

We arrived half hour early for our reservation and was asked to take a seat in the bar until our table was ready and we were called 15 minutes later. We were served by Megan and she was really friendly and polite. The service was fantastic but the food was something else, absolutely delirious, thank you Dylan!! We left in food comas. Delicious food and an awesome evening. Thank you!! Xx

OK there was a delay in the kitchen, we had to wait ages for our meal. Our waiter, Evan, was amazing. He apologised for delay and his service was fantastic. Food was great despite delay. Wine helped! Wouldn't put me off going there again. Good atmosphere and friendly staff.

Dined here today for a Mother’s Day meal, our drinks and starters came quickly and the service was very efficient and friendly. After our starters we waited an hour for our mains however this was due to a technical issue that everybody was affected by. It’s understandable that these things happen. Some of the food items could have been warmer but still tasted great, will be coming here again in the future

Absolutely brilliant place Dan the manager on duty went above and beyond to make sure that our visit was extra special. Grace our server was amazing and really attentive to our guests that we bought with us and nothing was too much trouble. Would highly recommend to anyone. BUTCHERS BLOCK IS A MUST 🥰

The food, service and friendly atmosphere was excellent 👌 Me and my husband thoroughly enjoyed the butchers block from the main menu, it was cooked perfectly. The waitress Lauren was very polite and helpful, we will definitely be returning thank you. Only negative feedback was they forgot to serve us our cheesy garlic bread, we realised on our way home .

Birthday celebration .we were greeted on arrival by a polite and friendly young lady who showed us to our table .our waiter for today was called Hayden very polite and very friendly he talked us through the menu and made some recommendations for us nothing was too much trouble .we ordered a bottle of Prosecco which was placed in an ice bucket by the side of the table .our drinks arrived and our starters followed.our main course were brought out to us by Hayden smiling and chatting to us ensuring we were all enjoying our Birthday celebration The food we received was of exceptional standard the steak just melted in your mouth All food was served piping hot with large portions .The dessert we received were delicious with lovely presentation.A big Thankyou to our grill Chef Shaun all our meals were well cooked and lovely presentation .one again a Big Thankyou to Hayden for making our celebration so special this young man is a Credit to Miller& carter we will definitely be returning in the future .

We had the pleasure of having Lucy as our server for our first time at the thornhill site. Lucy was a lovely lady who was professional but yet really friendly. Her service made us feel very welcome. Hope to see her there again soon!

Lunchtime today we were a party of 14 celebrating 3 70th birthdays. Kacie, our waitress was very patient and understanding, taking extra care with the gluten free meal. She was very pleasant, friendly and patient with such a large group. The restaurant was quiet so we stayed at the table for well over the 2 hour slot allocated. At the end of the meal a special dessert with a candle was served. There was no mention of 70th birthdays when I booked so Kacie must have realised when we sang Happy birthday. Thank you Kacie - highly recommend your waitressing skills

I visited on a Saturday at lunch time and it was very busy. Children with phones on full volume and adults with extremely bad language spoil the atmosphere. The food was very good even if it is on the expensive side. Don't mistake expensive with posh - this is a franchise after all.

We had a lovely meal here although it could have been lot hotter . Heard a few tables complaining about the same issue and also steaks not being cooked correctly . There were children in there also winging and crying which really spoils the atmosphere . When your paying the prices they are currently charging I feel it should be better !

Expensive for what we ordered. Main course was good but no better in quality than cheaper establishments. Cheeseboard for one needed more plain crackers for the amount of cheese which was plenty but with a large goats cheese which my wife dislikes. Maybe should have asked for none. Soft drink needed replacing due it seems to it 'being at the end of the concentrate' . Good service but unlikely to re visit due to prices

Over priced food is ok but service poor and manager rude and unhelpful.

Food was appalling. Rob eye was sent back as it was undercooked. Came back overcooked. Styrofoam would have been an easier swallow. Waitress was lovely knocked off drinks and followed up on us. We won't be returning to miller and carter. Always hit and miss.

2nd Update: spoke to Chloe on 19th Feb. 8 messages left. Still, no apology or follow up from management. Original post: Booked for husband's birthday for 6 people. Had to wait 15 mins beyond booking time to be seated, but it was Valentine's weekend. Put this down to very busy restaurant/kitchen, so we didn't mind overly as they were doing their best to seat us. It gave us a chance to look over the menu. When we were seated, we could see they were still very busy and waited patiently for our server. After we'd we ordered, we were told the Sunday sharing platter wasn't available... on a Sunday... at 4pm. The waitress couldn't believe that was true, so went to check with kitchen. She returned explaining the kitchen had run out of the sides that accompanied the Sunday sharer platter and wouldn't budge on cooking any substitutues or alternative sides to accompany it despite having the meats. Ordering was further delayed as we had to select alternative meals. Our poor waitress could see we really had our hearts set on the sharing platter and asked in the kitchen again, stressing it was a birthday meal. The kitchen staff refused again. Our poor waitress was obviously embarrassed and put out by the kitchen's refusal, so she offered us a free round of drinks. After we'd ordered, we had to wait over an hour for our food. I appreciate it was a very busy weekend for them, and they must have been tired by then, but the food when it finally arrived was so disappointing. It was tepid and looked flung together, and my lamb meal was awful. Not the standard of food I would expect from any restaurant, let alone a Milller and Carter who pride themselves on their meaty dishes. Normally I would have returned my food but as I was so hungry after the hour plus wait, I was ready to eat anything... even cold meat. It was also a really small serving, so I wasn't anywhere near satisfied. My meal had obviously been kept warm somewhere as the dauphinose had lost its ooze, and the broccoli was wilted and had the frazzled look of veg kept under a heating lamp. The pea puree had a crust. The only thing that looked fresh on the plate was the pea shoot green that was there as an eye pleaser on top of the meat. The other reason I said nothing was as it was my husband's birthday meal and didn't want to make a fuss for his sake. I really appreciated the waitress's attempts to keep us happy, but in the end I believe she found it too embarrassing to serve us our food when it was up, as another member of staff brought our meals to the table. After a further 5 minutes we even had to remind the staff that we were a side order down. This was at least hot when it arrived, but very average. The restaurant was very busy and had a complete change of diners on the tables around us in the time it took for our food to arrive.... some of these tables even dining before us despite being seated well after us. At the end of the meal, a small tray with happy birthday written in chocolate sauce with a biscuit and two raspberries arrived. I'm not sure if this was meant as a peace offering from the kitchen staff, or just a kick in the teeth from the kitchen staff, as though some chocolate sauce was to make up for the wait and cold meal... lesson learned.... be more select with where we book a meal on that weekend in the future. Either the kitchen had woefully misjudged the requirements for the Sunday sitting plus leftover Valentine diners, or management hadn't put on enough kitchen staff to cope with demand. Shambles all in all. But a big thank you to our waitress who did her best in a rubbish situation and actually should have had a tip but didn't... I'm sorry, I couldn't face parting with any more money to Miller and Carter on this occasion. It's such a shame that the waiting staff had to suffer because of the kitchen. As a customer, I tried to appreciate how busy a weekend it must have been, but the food was downright poor. There's a saying chefs, "if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen". Poor experience we won't repeat.

substandard food long wait and could of done better myself

Dined at M&C tonight, with my daughter. We both opted for the T-bone steak, which was rather nice. Steak was cooked to our liking; Medium for myself, Medium-well for my daughter. Service from Dan was superb, he could not do enough for us. The sticky toffee pudding for dessert was also a delight 😋 .

We go regular this time we booked a table for 6pm we arrived at 4.45 was told to wait in the bar in which it was full we managed to get a seat after. Then we were called at 6.10pm to be seated and the table wasn't ready. We finally sat at 6.20pm was told there is a wait on food which was fine as we don't like to rush and like to enjoy. Any way by 9.20 we had starter and main and had just finished dessert when I ordered another drink and was told to drink in bar as need the table. Was appalled as th weight was on me after I weighted on them all night with patience.

Got there for our valentines meal at our booked time to be told that our table wouldn’t be ready for at least half hour and was directed into an area to wait and have drinks with no seating and about 20-30 other people all waiting for tables packed in like sardines so left and went home

Came in last night for a late valentines meal and was served by Brooke! Everything was absolutely beautiful! Brooke was the most attentive and nothing was to much for her! She was extremely busy! But never once did she neglect us! We will be back again soon!

Just came back from having the Valentine Set Menu, my husband and I both agreed it was probably one of the best meals we’ve ever had (& we’ve had a few lol) Everything from being served by the lovely waitress Mia to all 3 courses cooked by Chef Shaun were absolute perfection 👌🏼 Shaun if your single I’d gladly give you my daughters hand in marriage ♥️

Special occasion. First time in a real steak house in 52 yrs with my son. Didn’t mind 20 min wait for drinks at the table but after an hour waiting for starter I spoke with manager. Then starter turned up cold. Waited then for main. Paid extra for sirloin which was so fatty my son couldn’t eat. Didn’t wait around for dessert But gutted as ruined special occasion.

My wife and I are a big fan of miller & carter and have been many many times over the years. We’ve just visited tonight in Thornhill and a simple request to swap the onion loaf for a few mushrooms isn’t a big ask. The waitress “who was lovely” said it was no problem but then later come back 15mins later to say the chef refused this request so she was very sorry. It wasn’t her fault and she felt really awkward because she agreed wasn’t a big ask as the chef was being really rude. We told her it wasn’t her fault and not to worry. I ordered the 16oz Rib Eye that was cooked really nice and was lovely, but my wife’s 9oz rump was over cooked and tough and was not worth the money at all. We didn’t want to complain as my wife felt bad for the waitress and we don’t like to complain normally but tonight has really annoyed us. We spent £80 odd and not to give a few mushrooms isn’t the best service especially when it’s a swap for a onion loaf and then for my wife’s steak to not be medium but well done was not good either. Overall wasn’t the best of meal for my wife and she actually said it t was really poor. We’ve don’t get out very often due to children etc but that definitely put a damper on the evening. Like I say not one to complain but the chef needs to thank the waitress for us not returning a terrible cooked steak that was a really poor cut also. I would like to add that nothing was done, no one contacted me or even acknowledged my review. Worst customer service ever if I’m honest…

Had a lovely lunch this afternoon at miller and carter. Lovely food and staff and a lovely overall experience.

Was booked in for 1pm for my birthday, waited for my son to arrive so ordered starters for hubby & myself, son arrived to order mains, was advised that table needed to be vacated by 2.45pm and wouldn’t be able to order desserts!!! Had I have known that the table was only available for this short time then I would not have booked and gone elsewhere. I wanted a chilled birthday celebration and not to be rushed! Would have been helpful to be notified of short period of time before booking. Previously (busy or not) we have never had this happen at the Hayes restaurant. So disappointed and spoiled my birthday.

Include the steak meal in two course offer

I’ve been here lots of times over the years and it can be a little bit and miss. Tonight was great, the food was perfect, good potions and hot with fantastic quality steak. We were served by Meg who was very friendly and polite and deserves to be mentioned.

Had to wait 15 minutes for our booking, cold starters, long time to wait between courses. Food was nice, but were clearly short staffed (our waitress was trying her best) and if that’s the case you shouldn’t allow that many bookings. Has put us off returning, which is a shame as the food is nice.

DONT GO HERE THE SERVICE IS SHOCKING!!! Ordered a collection for 7:30 I was left stood up in the bar area for 55 minuets there is a lot of other people complaining about the service here it is very slow and poor don’t waste your money!!!

Had a lovely evening at M&C with family. Booked for 7pm and was very busy. Short wait in the bar before table was ready. Obviously had steak, ribeye, sirloin were delicious and cooked perfectly. Sides, Kids meal and desserts were good too. Service from Luke was excellent, friendly and helpful. Had a great meal.

Great Xmas meal with the boyos! Top nosh! Beef dripping gravy and the Sticky chipotle chicken are an absolute must!!!! Picture is of the 16oz Ribeye with greens, bone-apple-feet!

Awkward moment regarding availability of menu and over charging at the end of the evening

Our table was booked for 730pm, and we ordered around 750pm then waited hour and ten mins for our food. I was told it was because we ordered a well done steak, as a chef that takes no more that 15 mins to cook. Out steaks came but we had to ask for our salad and the steak knifes came after the salad and we were 3/4 though our meal. Miller and carter is amazing food and service in Cardiff but this one, even though so much closer to home , I will never visit again !

The food was stunning. After ordering we waited an hour for our food. When we received our steaks, I had to ask for our side salads. Also, our steak knives were delivered when we had nearly finished the meal.

Went there new years eve starters came out mine was luke warm my wife starter was stone cold so it went back waited one and a half hours for main 2 steaks came 9 oz rumps they were about 9mm thick again both were luke warm so were the chips my wife had boiled potatoes they were a load of mush in a bowl so we left had nothing to eat what a waste of an evening been looking forward to it aswell

The restaurant was beautifully decorated, quiet whilst being very busy, service was excellent despite the restaurant being full.

Out of all the Miller and Carters I've been to, this is the best in Cardiff

Updating post xmas dinner food down from 5 to 1 spent over £200 for two meals. Xmas day. Apple tart if we hadn't read the menu wouldn't have known the flavourless slices were even apple. Two turkey dinners inconsistent pieces of turkey totally different amounts could taste the advertised cauliflower cheese on one piece of cauliflower. Starters soup for wifeasteless and the hog thing no flavour never again !!!!

I went with some old school friends (old being the word - moany old gits 🤣) and we got a last minute table as our primary venue was closed for food unexpectedly. You have to book online they say but I'm nearly certain I saw someone walk in and get a table. Anyway, the place was two thirds full, we got a decent table and service was adequate. The others had steaks and they all enjoyed them (although it was agreed the lettuce wedges are getting smaller and smaller), and I had the Asian cauliflower wings and the veggie pithivier - think pie with a load of cheese in it. They were both really good! For four people it came to £160 with at least one drink each, plus one pudding for Mr "Let's split four ways, yeah?". You can always count on M&C for a better than gastro pub steak dinner, and I've had fish before now which was also great. A decent venue in south Wales now, and glad we didn't have to head into the City proper!

Went here as a party of 5 for a Christmas get together. Staff are amazing, friendly and relaxed. Dress code a bit austere but I guess that's just part of their appeal to some. Steak mains are amazing as are chicken main courses. Starters are another story... Prawn cocktail is not anything close to decent. Clearly thawed (once frozen) prawns with no sauce and just lettuce leaves. 2 other starters were just acceptable and clearly frozen/reheated style of food. Deserts were also quite average with banoffee being quite bad as was the fudge brownie/cake type desert. Lemon tart was the only acceptable one and the raspberry sorbet was lovely. Overall a very expensive meal when only the main courses were of a decent standard.

Despite being incredibly busy with a full house of customers, he remained friendly, attentive, and brought a calm, welcoming presence to the table. His excellent service truly enhanced our dining experience!
