Miller & Carter The Hayes in Cardiff

What a lovely meal out with the family. It was clearly busy today with the amount of people in the restaurant, but it never showed through the service we were given today. My family and I had a wonderful experience from the service at the table all the way to the kitchen. Our steaks were absolutely beautiful, cooked to perfection and seasoned just right and the chunky chips and beef dripping which were recommended by our server are just to die for. The best part of our evening was the amazing service from our lovely and smiley steak expert Maddie. She was happy to help and answer any questions we had and walked us through the entire menu EVEN when she had two giant tables which she handled brilliantly along with our table. She even laughed along with our old people jokes being very polite to humour us. She honestly made our evening. She was relaxed and never shown that she was too busy for our questions. We loved her. Never had better service, will definitely come back with pleasure.

We came to M&C for a Family birthday meal for 11 people. The table had been decorated for us before arrival and was in a nice secluded section so we didn’t feel that we were disturbing other diners. We were served by Josh who was absolutely lovely. He was very patient when we had late arrivers (went to the Bay restaurant by mistake 😂); offered good recommendations (loved the Zinfandel) and helped the evening run smoothly which is never easy with large numbers. Food was lovely, they were happy to bring out the cake and provide plates and made the bill splitting very simple, with individual bills provided. Would definitely recommend for big groups.

Amazing food. Great service, Maddie was very polite and informing. The food was second to none, first time at a miller and Carter and couldn’t of asked for a better experience.

Great meal. Our waiter was Josh who was very attentive and had some great suggestions. The red with the wagyu steak was top notch. Would definately go again.

The steak was good but didn’t blow my mind, admittedly I have very high standards. Still the restaurant was lovely with very good service.

Visited Miller & Carter today for lunch. We are normally very happy with the food but today was the exception. Unfortunately we both had rump steak which was tough. When we mentioned this to our waiter we got 'sorry about that' and he walked off. Needless to say we won't be returning any time soon. Expect better than that for spending £100.

Had a lovely meal and excellent service from waiter Josh. It was my friends Mothers birthday he decorated a plate with chocolate sauce which read Happy Birthday. Lovely pleasant surprise & he made sure we were happy throughout the meal. 5* service.

Came by yesterday around 8 pm bar staff was amazing and very welcoming especially Tj who gave amazing recommendations on drinks and built a great atmosphere. Would 100% go again

Shame we had to wait an hour for our mains and the fries that came with it were cold, but they did replace them after asking. Ordered a sirloin but was given a rib eye.

The most wonderful restaurant, the food was awesome!! The guy serving us was so wonderful, couldn't do enough to help us, so friendly, so polite, he'd seen my birthday badge when we came in and wished me a very happy birthday!! That made my day. Next time we're staying in Cardiff we'll def have our meals there. Thank you for making our evening so special.

The sense of awe I got when I put Grill chef jack's burger in my mouth brought me to a level of nirvana I had never experienced before. I am enamoured with this grill chef 😍

The place was filthy! It was like being in Wetherspoons! Rubbish all on the floors! Waited 45 mins to recieve our food, steak was small portions, wine was good but the first time ever in the world I have been told you cannot have a cork to place in your wine bottle! We spent £180 in total and for that price you expect a clean restaurant, 5 star service and even a cork! Totally disappointed! I will not go back! Another thing is your prices arent transparent- you add VAT on it! Wasnt happy with that either!

We have recently been to Miller and Cater on the Hayes for lunch on 08/02. Josh helped us decide on the cut of steak to go for and we loved our choice of sirloin, the food was incredible. Rated atmosphere a 4 only because the front of house/front desk member of staff did not acknowledge we had walked through the door and was on the computer before even looking at us. She asked blunt questions of our time of booking and didn’t smile once. Josh was great though, friendly and polite.

Had a pretty frustrating experience here. When we arrived, our table wasn’t ready even with a booking on a sunday, so we had to sit at the bar. (not too eventful so far) While waiting, I was randomly accused of having a fake ID and was told I’d be “let off the hook” like I was being done a favor—completely unnecessary and unprofessional, especially considering my ID was not a fake. i understand bartenders need to check IDs but this felt completely unnecessary and put a damper already on what was meant to be our valentines meal as a couple. Once we were finally seated, it wasn’t even in the main restaurant area, but off to the side, which made the whole experience feel a bit second-rate. To top it off, our waitress didn’t even greet us when she came over, just went straight into taking our order with no effort to be friendly. The steak was absolutely delicious, the sides were cold and either undercooked or overcooked. the poor service ruined the experience for us, even more so when this was meant to be a special occasion. Wouldn’t go back.

The food was delicious and all came out as expected. We highly recommend the cheddar mushrooms as a starter and the banoffee pie for dessert. Our server, Ewelina, was exceptionally attentive and even went out of her way to have my cocktail modified for me. I hope she is recognised for her excellent work.

It's a nice restaurant, but the menu is quite generic. Our steaks were tender, but quite small, fatty + way overpriced! The salad consists of a chunk of unprepared iceberg lettuce with a dollop of dressing. My large glass of Merlot was £13.80. We won't be rushing back.

Service was very good, although the restaurant was very busy, there was no delay in service. Both members of staff who served us (change over of staff) were exceptionally polite and professional. The quality of food was excellent. As a recognised steak restaurant we were unsure what to expect when ordering the sea bass however it was a definite 10/10!!

Booked M&C for our anniversary celebration dinner. The staff greeted us so warmly and friendly. Josh, our server was extremely nice and a great host! The food (starters and mains) were delicious! My husband had the steak and I had the lamb rump. Would have loved to finish with some desserts but we were too full! Our host Josh surprised us with a little “Happy Anniversary” ice cream scoop!

I had the pan roasted cod and fish was overcooked and tasteless, and the sauce was also bland. We asked the server for extras like sauce, black pepper etc to be brought to the table but they either didn't arrive or they arrived too late. My granddaughters wanted some paper and colours to draw with but all the pencils were blunt. We asked for the bill and it took about 15 minutes before someone brought it, we were gpomg to the theatre so didn't want to hang around. The others had steak which was nice and what you would expect for a steak house. All in all it was OK but I think you're better ordering steak as they seem to get that right. The staff were fine to.

Joe my server was absolutely amazing and really helpful and kind. His recommendation was spot on for my food. This was my first time in a Miller and Carter restaurant and the experience was amazing. The staff are all so kind, welcoming and knowledgeable and even though I didn’t have a reservation they were able to accommodate me. The food was a 10/10 and I would highly recommend coming to Miller and Carter on the Hayes in Cardiff. Thank you to all of the staff!!

First time coming here as i run my own fine dining restaurant so i never get a chance to go out and eat. I came here with an open mind. Atmosphere amazing, service 3/5, waiter was a bit straight and stuck up or came off as rude as he seemed impatient, but maybe that’s just the Ivy gave. now come to the most important point the food the food was really good. I have to say however we were given a well done cook steak even though we had asked for a medium after pointing it out way to the food and we were told you given fresh one after 15 minutes we were given a fresh steak which was perfect to the way we had asked for originally however you would think that for 30+ pound you pay youd also get a new side of fries and onion what ever it was. But no instead they precooked the whole plate but the streak which was a let down and you can see from afar straight away it was the same food that came out initially. How much did those fries cost? £2 like really for Miller and carter that was their let down. Who ever refried our steak order and said it use the same fries and onion needs to be sacked what a joke. We purposely didn't eat the fries or onion so the kitchen could look at it and try and figure out why we didn't eat them. full of grease

Arrived at restaurant at 4:15pm, received our first drinks at 5:15pm, food by 6:00pm, desserts by 6:50pm, coffee ordered after and arrived room temperature. Waitress said it was because they had a backlog at the bar. Well if that was the case why would the coffee be cold? Food was bang average. Paying £20 for a steak here is one of the poorest decisions you will make. Waitress was rude from the get go, and then had the audacity to give us a bill which was £30 out of the correct amount! Even with the coffees taken off the order and sent back. I’m 26 years old, and will always give restaurant staff benefit of the doubt, but unfortunately it was a comedy of errors here. Give your hard earned money to people and businesses who deserve it!

Date night, night out with friends, work do, family meal… it really does tick all the boxes! Angie looked after us this time, her daughter Sophie the time before - both were fab and would love to have them look after us again.

We always have an excellent experience at The Hayes restaurant. This time we had Angie who was like a breath of fresh air. She was the most helpful, happy member of staff we have come across. The food was beautiful as always too.
