Miller & Carter The Hayes in Cardiff

My wife ordered her steak well done it was served medium to medium rare the reason was "that's how the chef recommends it" Clearly the customer isn't always right in their book. My wife couldn't eat it and so I didn't eat mine.they didn't charge for my wife's steak but I had to pay for my u eaten steak because there was nothing wrong with it. Ended up going to McDonalds and at least that was cooked how we like it and we could eat together

Angie was amazing serving today, polite,friendly and prompt & food was delicious with excellent value.

We watched our food sit under the hot plate for 30 minutes! When we told the waitress she tried to tell us it was "just the salad" sitting there but the steak was bone dry! Very slow, poor service! Would not recommend going here.

We had excellent service from Matthew for our table of 11 for a family 18th birthday lunch. He was consistently attentive and very personable, nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent as well, a very pleasant experience!

Went here for a birthday celebration and was served by a lovely young lady called Lia, she helped make the evening really special by bringing a card and complimentary desert, food was incredibly good, will definitely be coming back

I was booked there tonight to join a table of 11,I've been 3 times to this branch and was excited got there and waiting 10 minutes to sit down, it wasn't busy busy or full just the right amount of people but still waited ten minutes, got to out table and our drinks order was taken straight away(happydays) waited 15 for our drinks until one of the table members got up and asked, drinks where delivered and then the food was ordered, food took well over 45 which we had to get up and ask for more drinks in-between as if we where forgotten about, I've been to miller and carter restaurants well over ten time between this place and Thornhill and the service was shocking, don't bother and go to Thornhill, 2 of our members on the table had to send their food back one where their potatoes where black and one where their steak was blue but asked for medium.

5 Stars - Outstanding Service! We had an amazing dining experience at Miller & Carter, The Hayes in Cardiff. The food was, as always, top quality – perfectly cooked steaks, delicious sides, and a lovely atmosphere. What really made the evening stand out, though, was our server, Matthew. From start to finish, he went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time. Attentive without being intrusive, friendly, knowledgeable about the menu and genuinely warm – Matthew made us feel so welcome. It’s rare to come across service that feels so personal and thoughtful. We’ll definitely be back, and we’ll be asking for Matthew next time!

- Was asked to wait 5-10 mins at the bar despite a sea of free tables available (seemed like a ploy to push drinks) - Waiter generally unhelpful, slow. Asked question about menu and response clarified nothing. Was essentially scoffed at for asking. - Got a flat pint of Peroni. - All 4 of us remarked that chips tasted reheated, or like oven chips. Thick chips were not seasoned whatsoever. I have never in my life had chips and pepper sauce and not wanted to eat them. - Steak was average. An average home cook could do a lot better. - No music. No real atmosphere - Overall, struggling to understand how this place would have any repeat customers.

Excellent steak restaurant and although it is part of a chain it felt very local. Our steaks were perfectly cooked and came with a choice of sauces. Ange, our server was excellent providing great advice on wine choices and help with my food allergy. We ate from the main menu but there is a lunchtime set menu which is a cheaper option (3 courses for £21.99). If you like your steak then this place is definitely worth a visit.

Angie was brilliant, super friendly, looked after our special dietary requirements efficiently. Not always you see such lovely people, because how this job is demanding. She's marvelous, you better keep her in as she will bring you more customers so look after her and all your front line staff, managers and owners have jobs and salaries because your frontline amazing people.

Excellent meal for two. Very nice atmosphere. Steak and fish was cooked to perfection 👌. Wine was very overpriced at £12 a large glass but that aside was very nice. Service was OK, mainly down to how busy it was for the waiting staff.

First time to Miller and Carter on a weekend break in Cardiff and it was nothing short of exceptional. I was expecting it to be good but it exceeded my expectations. Josh was great made us feel at home and was very enthusiastic, upbeat and humorous which is lovely to see and just makes the atmosphere so much better. Food was delicious and service was fantastic.Hopefully Miller and Carter back home in Devon is as good as this one!

Went with a few friends not having been here for quite a few years. It was a most enjoyable experience and I thought the sticky chicken wings as a starter were exceptionally good and the tomahawk pork chop was also full of flavour. I always judge restaurants by the quality of their ice cream and cleanliness of toilets and was not disappointed. Really good ice cream. Great ambience and our waitress, Emma, was good fun and very attentive. We were in no hurry so any delays such as some other reviewers have mentioned wouldn’t have bothered us. Very busy for a Wednesday lunchtime. The meal with 3 courses, some sides, bottle of SB and copious beers came to £60 each with tip. Very reasonable imo We’ll be back and recommend it 👍👍

I usually find all M&Cs to be very similar in terms of food & service, but Cardiff Hayes was a little below par on the latter. We booked a table for 6.30, we arrived a little earlier but given it was a busy Saturday were told we'd be seated according to reservation time, we were given a beeper in case a table became available sooner. We weren't seated until 6.45, but I had to follow up. Our orders of 2 rump steaks were taken pretty quickly, but our food didn't arrive for another 40-45 minutes. The food was good, although the fries were a little over done. We opted for the banoffi pie to share for dessert which was tasty but very filling. I'd certainly recommend the cocktails, we had 2, both of which we enjoyed. Whilst the staff were all very pleasant, I got the impression the restaurant was running light on staff.

We arrived at 6pm. Nobody came to see us untill 6.30pm, we had no drinks. So we are now a little concerned about timings as we had another event to attend at 8pm. When we were asked for drinks we thought it best to order food at the same time, we asked this but didnt go as we wanted as the server went to take an order for another tables dessert so there was more delays. I feel that the restaurant was majorly understaffed. We eventually had our meal which we enjoyed the steak but all the fries we had were stale not hot. So I didn't even eat them. We didn't get a chance for desserts ourselves as we ended up leaving at 7.50pm and we had to run to our event. We explained to our sever as we arrived we all had a welcome refer a friend voucher and we understood we would have to spend £100 for it to apply. However the server left us I would say 5 times with different bills and still we didn't get to use the voucher. The server didn't appreciate our urgency at any point. When we finally decided to go to the till area to save the server walking about we saw id say 20 plates on the pass just sat there.

Poor table service, steak over cooked. waited so long between courses that when I ordered my dessert I asked to have the bill the same time. £155 pound bill for poor food and service.

Booked a table for 6pm. Sat us at our table and ordered some drinks. 1 pint and a glass of wine. 30mins later they arrived. Ordered our food at the same time as our drinks, arrived about 50mins later. Ribeye steak was meant to be medium rare but was tough and chewy around the edges and not very tasty. Fries no taste and looked like they were cooked the day before. My wife’s steak was overcooked and her chunky chips were also tasteless. Considering what we paid for our meal I think we would have been better off at a little chef. Not an enjoyable meal so will go elsewhere next time.
