Miller & Carter Oracle in Reading

You would think a steakhouse would know how to cook steak as requested … sent it back twice and they still couldn’t get it right. Over priced for a chain restaurant. Definitely won’t be going back.

I pre ordered from 11am time was given 12:35pm and changed to 2:30 I asked Medium got medium rare food was cold it defeats the purpose to reheat food that should come at the standard which is required.

Amazing food!! Absolutely up there with perfect food. That pork belly is to die for ! Daisy served us and put up with our ‘high maintenanceness’. Such kind service and would recommend. The only thing I would ask is for the young men to be a bit more patient with customers … we couldn’t quite hear what they were saying and they made us feel slightly silly when we didn’t understand what they were saying… Regardless, this is still a five star service. Thank you Daisy! :)

All I can simply say is Thank You to these guys at The Oracle Restaurant. Greeted upon arrival, respectable service and nothing was never too much. I didn't get any names sadly, but the girl who had dark hair and really lovely nails (the nails were a pretty black colour) an absolute asset to the company and so so so lovely, down to earth and easy to approach. Our server was a brilliant gentlemen who had such a good presence and very bubbly and made our visit our really warm and welcoming. We visited for an anniversary meal and my god they made a fuss of it and was beautiful. Complimentary cakes and just a simple congratulations, absolutely perfect. If I could rate this visit out of 100 it would be 1,000,000. One of the best meals out I have ever had. I really hope these guys see this and understand how you made our lives so much more brighter. You all deserve a good drink for your hard work. We will be back very very soon! 🫶🏻

This is my first experience in Miller & Carter. I have been to other steak restaurant chains, and this is on par with them. I had warm sourdough bread with salted butter, extra Virginia olive oil, and balsamic vinegar reduction from the nibbles menu. Then, I had the 12oz ribeye steak cooked medium on the advice of the menu, then you chose your sides, so I chose the beef dripping sauce and the quarter lettuce with bacon bits and honey and mustard, then this all came with a small onion loaf and cooked tomato, and for desert I had the creme brulee with raspberries and to drink I had 1.5 pints of beavertown neckloil all of which was very nice and served by my waitress Daisy, her customer service was excellent nothing was too much trouble. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

I would like there to be mayonnaise. The pizzas are excellent. I love the one that is spicy.

Booked the restaurant for anniversary with my partner, had an amazing experience! The food is well worth every penny ,I highly recommend the lamp rump and the coconut raspberry cocktail. However the lettuce salad was cut as a whole large piece and the sauce didn’t mix properly which makes it harder to enjoy, but other than that would definitely visit again!

The steak was absolutely delicious, the service was pretty good, it just not special enough an atmosphere unfortunately.

Wonderful atmosphere and service. However for the price, the food was poor. As a steak shop, the 50 day aged ribeye was very chewy and under seasoned.

Amazing restaurant. First time here and we had the set menu. Upgraded our steak to wagyu which was an extra £14 each but it was well worth it!! Steak melted in the mouth. Good selection of sauces and fries were seasoned well. Dessert was a cookie dough for two, it came with ice cream and topped with mallow fluff that was torched slightly and topped with chocolate sauce. If you want something sweet or have a sweet tooth this is for you! Was incredible! We left feeling very full. Really impressed with the service time too, in between each course you were waiting for around 5 minutes. Was fantastic and we will be back! Wish there was one in norwich!

The food was ok, though not as great as I remembered previously. I went on the Saturday after Valentines and it was extremely busy. I was seated near the bar which felt like I was sat in a corridor, with both staff and other customers literally brushing past me. Even though I was quite far from the door, gusts of cold kept washing over me as customers left both doors open on occasion whilst queuing. But the most annoying part was the fact that the £20 deposit for online reserving the table wasn't deducted from the bill. I'm now having to try to chase them to get that refunded. This seems to be a very common practise with restaurants currently. I can only imagine it's deliberate but very under hand!

Food felt a bit flat today, steak was OK I have had better cooked steaks in the past at this particular restaurant. The onion loaf was NOT the onion loaf I know Miller & Carter for, sent it back only for it to come back worse than the first one. Waiter was apologetic and agreed it wasn't great. Attention is needed in the kitchen to make sure this doesn't become the norm.

A superb restaurant with high quality steak meals and great wines. The staffs are polite, efficient and knowledgeable and service excellent. If you are looking for a quality steak meal and this is it. The place is clean and ambience first class!!

Couldnt fault the service. Really sincere. However a steak restaurant that couldn't cook steak. They offered to take it back and cook it more. Sadly being served a virtually raw steak was too much.

Me and my boyfriend had such a lovely evening at miller and carter. I mentioned on the booking that it was our 7th anniversary, not expecting a lot just wanted a nice table. But, they brought out a cake for us. Which was so thoughtful! Sien’s service was great - we really enjoyed our time and anniversary meal due to the atmosphere and great food. Thank you!

I’ve been to this miller and carter twice. Once for our anniversary and today for my birthday. Marco has been our server on both occasions. Not only has he made our experience 100% better but the service was incredible. Give the man a raise! Thank you Marco!

Fuming, I'm a vegetarian and had meat products on my vegetarian meal, no real care given by staff, offered 20% discount which is ridiculous as I couldn't eat any of the meal, awful attitude and service, avoid at all costs....

Came back after a year or so everything has changed apart from the dates decor. Clearly under new management and gone way far down hill with it, avoid!!!!!!!

November 28, 2024: First time at Miller and Carter and it was so unbelievably gorgeous! I was confused at first regarding the deals they offered and pricing, but when I got there and looked at the physical menu it was easier. During the ordering process, your steak comes with a sauce, wedge and side of your choice. I ordered the 8oz Ribeye steak with beef dripping, seasoned fries, lobster tail and honey and mustard lettuce wedge. It comes with a complimentary tomato and onion loaf. The beef dripping is the most popular sauce apparently, and it definitely lived up to the expectations and was the star of the show! Extremely delicious and cooked to perfection. One of the best places to first try lobster, since £10 for lobster tail is cheap for lobster. The bill came to £90 and had a 20% tax charge. Second time, 27th December 2024: I came here for the second time, just a casual visiting and it was just as good as before. I had the filet steak and it was great. It was served rare though I think I asked for medium-rare, but the filet is recommended rare. Regardless, it tasted great. Thank you to our waitress, Laura, for the service both times.

Service was great, food was good quality as always, however the steaks were supposed to be medium rare and the other medium, but they were served rare and medium rare, it was very busy so we guessed the kitchen were rushing the food out. Overall good but not quite perfect.

Absolutely horrific to go if you have a peanut and nut allergy, you’re very limited with starters and mains and there’s no desserts you can have at all! Will not be going again!

Honestly the worst place Iv been to the service was absolutely awful. They gave our table away to another customer, when we booked beforehand. The front of house girl was so rude and couldn’t care less about her job. She proceeded to tell us to wait by the bar when there were free tables. We stood at the bar waiting to be served and no one served us. The front of house lady then went and spoke to a colleague for 10 mins completely ignoring us. Wouldn’t go here. We left.

We had a wonderful meal, our server James took very good care of us and I highly recommend this restaurant for good food and service. It was very busy and loud as an atmosphere but considering it’s Christmas time it wasn’t too bad. 100% will visit again and hope we get James as our server

I was on a Christmas work do and was served by Daisy couldn’t have been served by a better server she was very accommodating would highly recommend Miller & Carters for any occasion such a great atmosphere loved the whole experience as was my first time here

Overall enjoyed it. Both steaks were undercooked. The venue is also very noisy even though we were in a quieter area. The anniversary mentions were lovely, and the waiter was very nice (easily distracted though). Cocktails were good, we were a bit disappointed that the Christmas non alcoholic cocktails were out of stock.

If a quarter of an iceberg lettuce in a bowl resembles a salad, A bowl of watered down sauce out of a cartons and “over deep fried”roasti potato is your desire then book a table here! The waiter was overtly upselling with no shame and very little sophistication. As a seasoned operator in this sector and frequent diner this style of service might be ok trading in a “market stall environment” but not in the UK restaurant setting!! Given the price and setting millet & carter has the feel of a high class weathspoons complete with unique atmosphere and its clientele!!

Service was very slow for Monday had to wait for some time to be seated and place was not busy. Waiter tried to be friendly but was borderline rude at times. They didn't check if food was alright. Steak was very chewie I still eat it as i was hungry. Waiter didn't come on time to ask if food was alright to catch it. Food was not alright and nothing was done about it. When I didn't leave the apropriate tip I could see waiter beeing agitated. Not good overall experiance. Be carful

My partner and I love Miller & Carter. We always have a great experience there, that was until today. We ordered the Chateaubriand sharer medium rare with Scallops on the side for both of us. The Scallops turned up as a starter which was fine no problem there and they were cooked perfectly. Next the Chateaubriand turned up. I looked like it had fallen on a bbq and not removed very quickly. The outside was charred and tough the inside was medium to well done at best. The onion loaf shattered into a hundred pieces when we tried to cut into that. I spoke with our server to explain that we weren’t very pleased with what had been presented to us. He said he would speak to the chef and disappeared. We ate what we could, paid and left. I won’t be returning to this Miller & Carter restaurant again.

Service and Staff good , atmosphere loud , but it was busy as Christmas time and one very rowdy table and some guest were made to leave , Food wasnt very hot which was disappointing

Overall they serve a decent steak, portion size is plenty big enough. I would avoid Friday and Saturday nights, very busy as expected, I wasn't getting great vibes from the person who showed us to our table, obviously pretty stressed out with the amount of people in there. Still, the food was OK, not the greatest quality ribeye for £35+ As above, hit them at a quiet time and you'll have a great experience.

Excellent food and service! Went with a group of 14 tonight and James was amazing!

The steakhouse had a nice ambiance and friendly staff, but the steak itself was disappointing. The 30 days Sirloin 12oz was ... average. It lacked juiciness, and the meat was a bit tough. For the price, I expected better quality. Decent overall, but there’s room for improvement.

So went for a cheeky sirloin earlier first impressions were decant until Laura came over - I could barely see my menu from the shadow she cast over the light, ALSO when my main meal came there was a bite mark in my steak like a grizzle bear (Laura) had had a nibble out of it, and then when we left SHE HAD THE AUDACITY TO ASK FOR A REVIEW!!

Amazing steaks and great service Diego is such a great guy so welcoming and always happy to see us we visit every few months all the team work so hard and really go the extra mile

We came in during lunch time and despite the busy restaurant our waitress Laura provided us amazing service and was so helpful and accommodating, quickly resolving any issues we had and making our delicious meal even more enjoyable.

The waiter was trying to convince me that a rare rump steak was a waste of time as it would be too tough and that I should go for fillet instead. Which costs an extra £6.00. The rare rump steak tastes as good if not better than the fillet rare.

The Cǒte de Beouf was delicious - really good value for money considering the portion size. Dessert was also fantastic. The highlight was the service we received - Daisy was smiley, attentive and polite and just overall really friendly. Very pleased and will definitely be back!

You know M&C is going to be relatively expensive, but quality does cost a bit more. Overall the quality of the food on this occasion was good... but have also had better in the past. Wasn't to say this vist was terrible, just not as good as previous visits. Only a couple of minor things such as the onion loaf was cold and the lobster tail was so small, over cooked and a bit tough. It didn't detract from having a lovely evening.

We were a little disappointed with the food as we have been to the same restaurant before at the same time and the food was better. The calamari was not great! A bit cold and greasy. 3 of the 4 of us had that. The mushroom starter was ok. Two of us of the four had the fish and chips. A disappointment! Overcooked and dry. The pork steak and ribs were fine. All happy with the desserts. Atmosphere was a bit quiet but it was lunchtime on a Tuesday!! The waitress was extremely friendly.

Great food, had the set Sunday menu and Cole was our waitor. Lovely help with what to have for dessert and was attentive at all times.

The food was good, the drinks were above-average, but the prices and service left something to be desired. Our waiter was handling a big group, but he was unable to split the ticket. He had to ring everyone up individually which took quite a long time and he was visibly frustrated. What was interesting is that no one cared to help him -- not the manager, not a co-worker. While my cocktail and fish dish were good, it was a little pricey for everything.

Love this branch! Super nice and posh! But the food was very affordable!
