Miller & Carter Banbury in Cherwell

Amended review. Went back last night. Food still excellent but dropped the score on the waiting staff sadly. A big shout out to Holly though. Friendly and a big asset to the team. Excellent food as always.

First time visiting and had to send the Steak back due to being off (this got replaced and removed off my bill however the bill was still too high for basic quality beef). No difference in a standard Beefeater except the price really. Sauces tasted like they were from a packet. The Marrowbone was sadly the best part of the meal. Service was not as swift as I would expect for the price of the menu either. Unlikely to visit again but may try another restaurant in the future (to compare).

My wife & I where greeted with a very warm welcome & taking to our table. Olivia then the waitress looked after us then & was very professional. We both had starters & mains ( both had lovely cooked steaks). My wife then decided on a dessert loved every bit of it. Lovely atmosphere & excellent service.

Greta value lunch menu here and our server Daria couldn’t have done more for us. Will be back again for sure. I had cheesy mushrooms, steak sandwich and coffee and creme brûlée which was less than £20. And I downloaded the app and got a free glass of fizz. Brilliant value and delicious.

We love a good steak so there’s only 1 place to go miller & carter , got there before 7pm was seen straight away . And shown to our window table as requested , was then offered the drinks so we ordered straight away and quick service . Nice and pleasant waitress . The food all come out straight away correct and hot , as did the mains , was asked several times that everything was ok . Brilliant service from all the staff , working hard as normal . Made our evening pleasant .. Thank u Eleanor the waitress .🥩 we will return

This was my first experience of a M&C Steakhouse. What a fantastic evening our group had, which was enhanced by the superb and attentive service we received by Natasha. Nothing was a problem, and her calm, smiling attitude was a real pleasure. The food was excellent and enjoyed by everyone. Thank you for a lovely evening.

Took a chance, showed up without booking and managed to get a table. Thursdays they have a three course menu for a set price. Natasha was an absolute star today, giving advice on what to order and what was good. I had the calamari with lemon aioli to start and absolutely devoured it. Then I had the incredible dirty burger which is just a smorgasbord of awesome flavours in your mouth and the apple pie with ice cream to finish. Everything was cooked and finished to perfection. I came away absolutely stuffed and so happy.

Natasha was brilliant, very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable when I asked questions on the menu. As it was Thursday and the 3 course menu is on on Thursdays I ordered from that. The food was superb and I basically inhaled it. I had the calamari with lemon aioli to start, followed by the dirty burger and the apple pie to finish. Everything was so tasty and well cooked. Absolutely can't fault the night. Would definitely go again if I'm in the area.

Went to Miller and Carter for my birthday with family. We had a brilliant table with room for a pram as we had a young baby with us. The steaks were predictably amazing and one of our party had the ribs for the first time, which were fantastic. We all shared the 3 for £10 sides too, which was such good value. Natasha was incredibly attentive and, because it was my birthday, she brought out a gorgeous ice cream dessert and birthday card which topped off the night brilliantly. We've been coming to this branch for a few years and will continue to in the future!

Really nice restaurant clean and tidy. The service was pretty fast and staff were really friendly. The food was also amazing, we had the burgers and they were huge. Would definitely go back :)

We have stopped here a few times for lunch or dinner whilst the car charges at Stroud Park. The food is solid Miller and Carter standard - you know what you are getting, and our Chateabriand was up to scratch for the money, as usual. One tip, at any Miller and Carter, is to order the Chateaubriand one temperature higher than you would usually have thinner steaks at, then it will come out perfect, We enjoy thinner steaks rare, but order our Chateau medium-rare, and the centre is always cooked to just rare, how we like it. Our server Natasha was very friendly and chatty, and very attentive. All in all a good visit! Knocked one star off for Food on this visit as there was a bit of sinew through one end of the chateaubriand, and one for atmosphere purely as it’s a big chain restaurant, so is never going to have amazing atmosphere, plus we were eating a midweek late lunch so the restaurant was pretty quiet as you’d expect. It’s a nicely decorated and clean, which is what’s more important. We will return for sure.

We went here for my husband's birthday today. The food was fantastic as usual - we all ate our steak of choice, which is done to perfection. There was a lovely buzz and we had an excellent waitress serving us! Well worth it and we were able to collect points on the app!

Good quality food and very fair pricing. Servers very attentive ,but clearly stretched very thin in terms of numbers of active tables they cover,resulting in slower than expected service.

Natasha was very friendly and helpful and helped make the evening very enjoyable. The card and the message in the dessert helped make the celebration feel extra special, and the food was amazing!

Fantastic food and great service.

Ordered two burgers, garlic bread, chipotle chicken and mac and cheese on delivery. One of the burgers was missing cheese off of it? And we never received our mac and cheese or chicken, when called we were told we could either come pick it up or apply for a refund through just eat. No attempt to solve the issue at all, terrible service for a £60 order.

Grea5 staff, I cannot tell you hoe lovely it was to see a smiling face and nothing was too much trouble l. Eleanor was awesome and very attentive. We were grateful for a last minute pop in and food. Staff were awesome, food was lovely and ambience wonderful. A great place to visit 💜❤️💜

We ate here on Monday 18th March 2024. Natasha was our server for the evening. She was excellent. She asked if we were celebrating anything, we said, yes our son's birthday. She took our order and came back with a birthday card for him, which was lovely, Then when we ordered dessert (my son didn't order one) she came out with a dessert for him on a plate with "Happy Birthday" written in chocolate, complete with candle. We thought it was a lovely touch. Natasha was very attentive during our time, we felt special, even though she was serving other tables, she was attentive to all her customers. We'll Definitely come back, and recommend to our family and friends. Thank you 😊

Not been for a few years as service was terrible, can't fault it this time as was spot. Decent lunchtime menu too and reasonably priced

We visit the Banbury site as much as we can and have never really had a bad thing to say, the food is always tip top and the service is usually 9/10 , BUT we visited last night 26/03/24 at 8pm and our waitress was Esme and was my Mrs 30th birthday, and I would just like to say that.... The experience was .... Well.... AMAZING =) Esme really helped towards the good atmosphere of the evening, really engaging, and a good laugh , and her service was also 10/10 ,i was a GM for Greene king for 15 years and her work ethic is superb give her a pay rise! The food was also out of this world, I decided to change from my usual to have the dirty burger and I've not stopped going on about it yet! It was so good easily best burger I've tasted so compliments to the chef, but all round the starters and mains was 10/10, the entire night as a whole 12/10 , so thank you M&C and Esme for making my Mrs 30th that bit extra special!

Usually excellent service, but not so good this time, my Prawn and avocado salad only had 2 tiny pieces of avocado, we arrived at 6.15 and didn't recieve our main until 7.45 and it was another 8 mins before the chips were served.

Food and cocktails were lovely, servers were nice, but service was very slow, hard to get their attention in first place, they kept walking straight past us even though we'd clearly been waiting a while, took 3 hours for 2 courses!

First time ever trying Miller & Carter will probably be the last time too. For a restaurant that claims to be the “masters of steak” we would’ve expected a little more, asked for medium rare and it was served blue hardly cooked at all, our starters were cold, it took 1 hour & 40 minutes to get our mains. We left extremely disappointed as it was meant to be a birthday treat. Credit to our server she was lovely (sorry didn’t get her name) we could see she was working extremely hard.

Very nice Mother's Day meal. Good selection of steaks of various sizes... Something for every appetite. Great service too, even though the restaurant was very busy.

We enjoyed our visit. Food was good and service excellent. However there was a mother and child alone on a table close by and constantly playing games and making unpleasant noises which spoilt the experience not just for us but all tables around. People spend a lot of money hoping to have a nice experience only to be frustrated and spoilt. I know it’s a difficult situation to deal with but for the sake of 2 diners 20 were spoilt.

My recent visit to Miller and Carter in Banbury was a complete disappointment. Despite placing my order for collection at 18:50, I didn’t receive my food until 20:25, all because they mistakenly gave my order to someone else. The wait was excruciatingly long, and the staff seemed oblivious to the inconvenience caused. When I finally received my food, it was cold and clearly had been sitting out for far too long. The lack of attention to detail and disregard for customer satisfaction is unacceptable. I won’t be returning anytime soon.

The food was really dry. I had the burger from their lunch menu and the both the brioche bun and the burger pattie itself were extremely dry. The fries as well were dry/ stale. The Chipotle Chicken starter, however, was nice.

Food was delicious and the service exceptional. We were served by Eleanor. Very polite and knowledgeable. Couldn’t fault her of the food. Highly recommend.

Excellent 16oz Ribeye steak cooked medium rare. I was told it was cooked by head chef Anthony. It was perfect today and also perfect two days ago when I ordered the same cut. This is the first time I had a steak cooked perfectly well on two occasions and well seasoned at Miller and Carter. Went there again last week and this time had a great ribeye cooked by Tim. Had dinner yesterday and had a dry steak although cooked perfectly medium rare. It was because the meat was probably too cold when put in the grill or a poor quality meat. The replacement was superb! Visited again today and the meat was dry. May have been put on the grill before allowing it to room temperature again. Unfortunately the replacement meat was the same.

We visit Banbury regularly, however, this is the 1st visit this year and the standards have definitely dropped. Portions are smaller starters & mains. The chips were hard, onion bread was chewy & gravy very salty. Won't be going back in a hurry, far better places.

Staff were lovely and nice decor and atmosphere but the steaks that we had were of average quality considering that they were 50 day aged (I cook supermarket bought steaks that taste better) and we found it extremely expensive for what you get.

Good things: - Staff were accommodating and friendly. Negative things: - Took 20 minutes before anyone took our food order. - Took 1 hour before we got our starters. - Quality of food did not match the pricing points; too high. - Food lacked flavour. - Service was slow. Expected a better experience for the brand name, but could have gone to the harvester and it would have been better, and for a fraction of the price. Disappointing.

The meal was absolutely fabulous, the staff there are incredible also, our waitress Natasha was amazing, even under the Valentine’s Day pressure she did amazing.

Got my meal wrong, didn't take too long to correct that and when it arrived it was lovely. The waitress did her best to apologise and appreciate mistakes do happen but when you're paying a premium price, you expect a premium service. Seemed to me like they were under staffed and the staff that were there were not trained sufficiently well. Some colleagues visited the night before but had a much worse experience than me, significant delay and an under cooked burger. On the night I was there, someone else was refusing to pay due to poor service. Feels like this branch needs some improvement

Ordered a takeaway away meal this weekend, I can't fault the meal it was exactly as described and very enjoyable.. I was a little disappointed with having to wait 30 mins after arriving on time for a scheduled collection appointment

Lovely staff, but do take a little while to serve you once ordered drinks or food. Lovely food but not much choice if you don't like beef. However, chef did agree to do a half roast chicken with a red wine sauce and peas instead of salad.

The service was ridiculously slow, it felt like our waitress was the only one working, it took 30 minutes to get our drinks, I’ve been to multiple miller & carters around the country this is the worst experience we’ve ever had, poor quality food, poor service I won’t be visiting again and suggest anyone else doesn’t bother either.

Great meal and excellent service from Lucy. My only comments are that it is a bit expensive and the place is a bit dark in the evening - had to use the torch on our phone to see the menu!

My husband and I had a delicious meal at Banbury Miller and Carter. Our young waitress Lucy couldn't have been any more attentive, helping to make the evening even more enjoyable.

We've just been refused to dine as there was "short staff", but, actually the real reason was racism.

Me and my sister were served by Eleanor, she offered us an amazing service and was very kind. Everything was delicious. I would recommend dining here!

As with every Miller & Carter I've visited, Banbury's branch was equally of a high standard in both the quality of food and customer service. I would like to give a particular shout-out to Daria who provided exceptional customer service to me, and paid great attention to detail regarding my food allergies.

GREAT!!! Lovely atmosphere, with fantastic food! We had waitress Lucy who was really attentive. I had the lamb (pink) and my partner had a filet, they were both cooked exactly how we wanted and I really recommend the restaurant for both its atmosphere and its service. Thank you!!

Table location was a bit naff. I was half sat in the main throughway between tables. The food was really good and the staff were really friendly.

It was very cold i did not feel comfortable there the presentation of the food was poor who sends out Burnt ouion loaf and the coleslaw looked like it was left over not fresh at all.very disappointed one meal was without chips so the other person had to wait.not happy at all.

Table booked for 6:30 Slow to take drinks order-then drinks that came were incorrect. Was called madam -a lot by waitress. Ordered nachos to start -not the quality that were used to in miller and Carter they were like salted tortilla crisps-not the lovely ones that the kidlington restaurant do. Did they run out? I wouldn't have ordered if I’d known. I Ordered well done steak as currently pregnant and can’t eat pink meat-I explained this - I checked the steak and one end was welldone the other medium. I didn’t realise until I’d got the that half of the steak. I explained when the waitress came over and I was offered another, but I declined as my friends had finished their meals. I Ordered new potato's with my meal- they tasted like tinned potatoes that were hard and over cooked-tasted like they were cooked in the microwave-almost hard but rubbery. We ordered more drinks they were taken to another table-behind us-we informed the waitress she wasn’t bothered gave us one drink Then she came back with our water. Our plates were cleared and I was offered a free desert, we ordered deserts and I had the lemon cheesecake -again disappointing I appreciate the food isn’t fresh and needs to be frozen but care should be taken to make sure the plate isn’t full of water from the cheesecake. 3 hours later we asked for the bill-paid and left. Also the disabled toiled was dirty, smelly and the sink was very unsanitary. If this was my first visit to Miller and Carter I would never return.

We went to miller and carter in Banbury for. Family Xmas/birthday party on the 28th. Fabulous service from start to finish and even helped us with a birthday cake. There was some confusion with the bill as some family members wanted to leave a cash tip and others on card, so when completed the bill was mixed up due to an add on of gratuities, although we had left more then the value

Our server was brilliant, calm and handled lots of challenging orders. 3 of our party of 13 had food allergies, and she carefully checked our meal requests. 2 of our guests have autism and can be difficult but our server Rachel dealt with us all very nicely. Food was great too.

Easy to book and regular communication leading up to our booking. Despite a literally last minute change of time from yourselves it didn't deter me for recommending to my friends and family as the staff were great, food was excellent and we had a thoroughly good evening.

We had a booking at 2pm on Boxing Day, we were seated straight away despite arriving 10 minutes early which was great. Quick at taking drinks orders, ordered our food quickly around 14:00, our starters didn’t arrive until 14:45, we did have the chase to ask where they were, followed by our mains not arriving until 15:35, when we asked where our mains were they brought out the lettuce wedges and then 20 minutes later brought out all the main food, desserts were again quite slow took another 20 minutes after our mains had cleared. More disappointingly we had seen the Eton mess come out as were sat by the kitchen until it was ours and the table near us turn and the meringues were no longer swirled pink ones instead ours looked like shop brought meringues as they must have ran out. Overall the Food was delicious but service really brought down the whole mood as we were sat hungry waiting. They had lots of staff out the front but clearly not enough in the kitchen for Boxing Day, quite disappointed and won’t be attending here again for a Christmas event.

One of the best Miller and Carter's. We got a lovely welcome and good service throughout our visit. Service was reasonable but a little slow due to a big party being in before us. Apart from that I would definitely recommend this Pub / restaurant
