We found this place as it is highly recommended on TA and Google plus it was recommended by my nephew. It is stylishly furnished and was reasonably busy for a Thursday evening. We went for a couple of their speciality dishes - Honey chicken and Lamb squashi, plus rice and naan. The food was particularly well presented and very nicely flavoured. The portions were a little smaller than some restaurants but we're fine for us. I had a very nicely made lassi too. Service was polite and efficient. This is definitely on our list of very nice Indian restaurants. We did look at the £20 set menu for a Thursday but concluded we wouldn't be able to eat it all.

Been here before and looked forward to eating the food. During the meal, 2 of our party had drinks spilt over them. When it came to the bill, nothing was taken off to compensate us. Not really a way to encourage people to return 🤷

Normally recommend the food but not tonight. Portion sizes were very disappointing (picture of our salad is below). We normally love the Madras, however it was very tangy tonight. Out of loyalty we will be back and hopefully back to normal standards.

Picked up a takeaway a couple of hours ago at a cost of in excess of £33. Commenced our meal with starters - extremely dry chicken tikka and very small puree to go with bhuna prawn. Everything about both dishes was tasteless- even the salad and the attempt of mint yoghurt?!! Then onto main courses- these were even worse and reminded us of a very poor leftover Sunday dinner trying to disguise itself as a bad curry. Both main courses, one beef one chicken, consisted of cabbage (mainly stalks), green beans (overcooked) and a good handful of peas and sweetcorn together with carrots.?? There were 4 small pieces of chicken and 3 small pieces of lamb in the dishes. Is this really Indian food? A side balti dish was made up of the same vegetables as above but without the meat. Bombay potato side dish was undercooked and had no taste whatsoever. Rice was rice without any flavour so may as well have been boiled rice. 2 naan breads were dry, tasteless and the garlic naan appeared to have been nowhere near garlic. We tried hard to look for a redeeming feature in the meal having spent over £30 but we couldn't. Needless to say we won't be back and would recommend you don't bother wasting your money. By far the worst indian meal we've ever had. There are others in the same street and I would highly recommend you try them.

Ordered a takeaway for 7 having been a regular at the restaurant for many many years. Can’t fault the food, staff or service. Mr Khan the manager is always happy to see us and greets us with a handshake on arrival. On one occasion the starter was a bit slow and they were apologetic and explained reason for the delay. Food was however as always well worth waiting for. By far the best Indian in Durham.

We had a few takeaways recently and I LOVE a good Indian takeaway and all I can say it was Average at best. They forgot the extra Popadom we ordered and the one we had was NOT crispy. Also the Curries do not blow you away. The Starter Tikka Checked was nice. I'm not saying I will never return but I am not in any hurry.

First of all this is the first review I’ve made on trip advisor but last nights experience was so bad I feel the need to comment. I have eaten in the restaurant previously hence my decision to order a takeaway. Don’t get me wrong in the current climate and on New Year’s Eve you expect a delay but things went from bad to worse. I placed my order via The Millennium website and the order was processed with a fixed time slot of 60 minutes.(minimum time preset on website) I turned up on time at 8.00pm and was told they would get my order. No mention of things running late . Nothing happened and as it was very busy in the waiting area i had to wait in the restaurant area meaning there were now a room full people waiting for orders. 8.20pm After patiently waiting for 20 minutes another customer asked politely where his order was and joked he would be getting a divorce as he had been waiting since 7.30pm I appreciated they were struggling so I asked if I should call back but was assured my order would be ready at 8.30pm. Nothing happened and the most annoying part was 3 other customers called in and collected their orders while I was still waiting. During my wait I was chatting to another customer who had ordered the day before! Again several customers seem to have bypassed him and he collected his ordered 50 minutes later. 8.45pm I query my order again and ask how other customers who arrived recently were being served, I was told mine is being bagged and another customer who ordered for 8.30pm collects his order 8.55pm I’m now looking for a member of staff to ask for a refund as the whole experience as made me loose my appetite and still no order 9.00pm - 1 hour later my order is ready The biggest gripe I have was the complete lack of organisation and orders being issued randomly, the young guy who seemed to be in charge didn’t even have the courtesy to apologise. The food- I had a mixed kebab which was okay while my partner had the worst and driest onion bhaji’s. The main course of chicken balti and a Lamb jalfezi turned out to be disappointing. Not a great way to spend your New Year’s Eve

We went online to place a takeaway order from the Millennium and were directed to Chef On Line. The process was straight forward but there was some confusion at payment authentication stage as to whether payment had been taken or not. We phoned the order through and paid by card at the restaurant. Next day I saw that the online payment had also been taken from my bank, meaning, I had paid twice. I called the restaurant to advise them and they referred me to Chef On Line who resolved the matter within a few hours, with no fuss or hassle, the refund hitting my bank a few days later. Great service. Thanks for sorting it out

Me and my partner were going to see the lights at lumiere, but thought it would be a better idea to eat outside of Durham first, to avoid the mad rush. I came across Millennium, and it had good reviews so we decided to go here. When we arrived the restaurant was busy and there was plenty of people waiting to be seated, which is always a good sign. We were seated after about 5 - 10 minutes and given our menus, and then were not seen to for about 15 minutes. They were clearly understaffed, and could here the table next to us complaining about their food still not arriving and weren't to hopefully that we'd be any different. When we eventually gave our order, we had to wait around 25 minutes for the food to arrive, by which point we were famished. We thought at least if the food is good, it will be worth the wait. It wasn't! We ordered a Chana Gosht, a Chicken Jal Jul Roshuon, Keema rice and a Chickpea and spinach as a side. Everything was bland! The portion sizes were tiny, and after a couple of bites each we realised that nothing tasted of much. The lamb was hard in the Gosht, and the chicken which was supposed to be "spicy hot" was mild at best. We were never once asked how the food was during our meal, not even when we were paying. All in all, poor service, and poor food. Would not recommend! We left disappointed and sill hungry.

Never been here before. The service was excellent - the waiters are so extremely polite and helpful. The food was tasty and such a relief that nothing was drowned in ghee like it often is. The daal and potato and cauliflower dishes were delicious and better than the main dish curries. Chapatis were hot and fresh too. My only complaint would be the house wine and selection on the wine list. People want a glass of good wine with their meal even if they’re buying it by the glass.

This is not the most modern of restaurants and it is out of the city, but it in my opinion it serves the best Indian cuisine in the Durham area, if not beyond so should be a must on your list. The owner is always there to welcome you, the menu is extensive and the service can't be faulted. I particularly like the fact that the chef is willing to 'tinker' with dishes to suit and that I have often been given taster dishes for things I wanted to try but was not sure enough to order as a main meal. The restaurant offers a take away service but do not do delivery as there is no need - people walk or drive to pick up their food which illustrates the standard.

A party of 12 of us went in at 9pm on a Friday evening near Xmas. The restaurant was virtually empty which isnt always a good sign, but may be to our advantage with speed of service. The crack was good and in fairness some people were undecided what to order so it took 15 minutes to order. Eventually after 10pm the starters arrived which were instantly devoured. I had 2 onion bhaji which were small on a limp salad but didnt last long at all...quite tasty but small. The main courses followed some 40 minutes later. Quite tasty but small portions and the rice was barely warm. There are much better Indian Restaurants around. The millennium has been there quite a few years but on this occasion certainly fell short on service quality and quantity of food and not particularly good value. Still felt hungry as I left !!!

We went for a leaving night out, I can only say this is the worse Indian restaurant I have ever visited. I believe they over stretched themselves, our quite large party, plus one other large party along with other customers. The service was dreadful, our table was booked for 18.30, we eventually got menus around 19.15. We ordered starters which came eventually, smallest samosas I have ever had. We ordered the main course. These came out at varies stages, some people got their curry, some got a bowl of rice, some got nan bread, then they brought more random items out. They forgot 5 people's currys, me being one of them, so I had rice and nan bread, We asked for the rest of our food, They brought some more, not mine, they then came with a chicken dish which they tried to give me. I pointed out that was not what I had ordered They said they would be back in two minutes, I pointed out that at this stage my rice and nan bread were both stone cold. They took my rice away. They came back with a chicken rogan josh, and a new bowl of rice, I again pointed out that this was not what I had ordered. They then asked me what I had ordered. I said lamb rogan josh, the two guys looked at each other and raised their eyebrows, said they would be two minutes and started to walk away. Now by this time some of my party had actually finished their food and were looking at me. I informed the waiters that I did not want the food, and could they please just put a lamb rogan josh and some rice in a take away box and I would take it home. Others in my party started to offer me their leftovers. After about 20 minutes I was handed a carrier bag with my food. I waited about 10 minutes said my goodbyes and left the restaurant. The time 21.45 So in 3 hours and 15 minutes I had 1 papadom with some pickle and two tiny samosas. It really spoilt my night. However, when I got home and tried my curry, it was beef something. Not sure what the sauce was but it was very watery tomato and onions, and there were only about four pieces of meat, it was definitely not lamb rogan josh. The other thing that is strange is that the menu uses the word meat, so you can have a chicken, mutton or meat curry. What is that supposed to mean, what meat is meat? Needless to say I will never go back.

It's popular with couples, families and parties sitting in as well as for takeaways with good reason. The menu gets better & better - all credit to the chefs. They always manage to fit you in even if you haven't booked although it's better to reserve in advance. They are very understanding if you have any special dietary requirements such as allergies unlike most other such establishments. You can eat here without any unpleasant surprises. We have spent New Years Eve at this restaurant every year for the last 10 years. The food is always lovely and the service is a little slow due to the amount of customers but very friendly. However this year was different. We went to the restaurant Sunday 30th November to book a table for New Years Eve and paid a deposit of £50, £10/head. We were not told it was a set menu. We then received 2 phone calls in December to confirm we would still be attending, 11th December and again on the 28th. At no point were we told about the set menu. When we arrived we were seated straight away which was unusual as we are always served our drinks in the bar area and our orders are taken before we are seated. Our drinks were served at the table along with pickles and poppadoms. When I explained we had not ordered the pickles we were told it was a set menu. My husband does not eat chicken so had to make do with the lamb dish. The starter of mixed kebabs included prawns. 3 people in our party do not eat seafood. The Bombay potatoes were greasy, the lentil side dish was poor as was the rice. The naan was a peshwari and a garlic which was not to our taste. The sweet was a small square of cake. In all the food was ok and the service was average, definitely not up to their usual excellent standard. If we had known it was a set menu we would have had the choice of whether to go or book somewhere else. As it is we have paid for food that we would not have chosen, from a set menu, for £24.90/head which was definitely overpriced for what was offered. Had it been any other night of the year I would have left and gone elsewhere. This experience has put me off going back there which is a shame but as a regular customer I feel badly let down.

Although we were asked for a Deposit of £10 each over the phone we were not told that this evening there would only be this option. The main course consisted of 3 chicken dishes & 2 lamb dishes---my husband cannot eat chicken & a replacement dish was not available. The sweet was tiny & dry without any sauce No coffee was available. The management has let the restaurant down badly with this blatant mis-leading of customers& lowering of its standard. One member of staff was rude & unhelpful when told that my son had not ordered a Gin with his tonic( he was driving ).He was told that it was written down & had ordered it. Rather than make a fuss he drank it.Not acceptable to guests to be spoken down to in this manner.

We live not far from Durham and visit Millennium Indian Restaurant for our Indian food, once a month. The owner is very friendly and the staff are very good. Parking can be a problem, but if you visit early, you may be lucky to park just near and front of the restaurant. The menu is like any other Indian restaurant, but the restaurant has a very good chef and the meals are wonderful. The starter of shrimps on Puri is out of this world. The main courses and the nan bread are soft and very tasty. The side dishes are also excellent. The Indian lager beers are also available.Once visited and tasted the food here, you will be back..

A much better than average meal at a decent price. Not too much and not too little. Plenty of choice and the queue to get into the main part of the restaurant spoke volumes

Highly recommended.Whenever I visit Durham my brother in law aka L.J Cool K and I and sometimes his family always try to visit this Indian restuarant. Dont be put off by the ordinary frontage of the restuarant on Framwellgate moor, Front Street, behind this is one of the best Indian resturants for miles.Staff are attentive, friendly and service is just right ,not too fast and not too slow, very important when your just wanting to catch up on recent events. The food is excellent, I wish I was a bit more adventuress to try some of the other mouth water dishes on the menu but I love the Lamb Tikka starter and the Lamb Tikka Rogan Josh with nut pilau rice, simply superb.L.J Cool K says the Irish coffee is the best he's had and he is an expert in these things. The small bar area is where the staff will take your order and sometimes this can be quite a busy area with people collecting takeaways but once inside the restuarant itself the area is very clean and tastefully decorated and most conducive for Indian cuisine.Try it and I hope you are not dissapointed.

Our family have been going to the Millenium for over a decade and it remains, consistently the best Indian/Bangladeshi food I've ever tasted. We usually have a takeaway, and although they don't deliver, you always receive hot food and plenty of it. I would certainly recommend the Discount card their offer, which is currently £25 a year, For this you get 10% discount on all meals plus invites to special evenings at their restaurant. We recently had a birthday party their for my son and once again they were brilliant. We were treated fantastically and even presented my son with a birthday cake and music at the end of the evening. Well Done Millennium!!

We spent many years living in the South West and visited this restaurant a number of times on visits home so when we moved back to the Durham area decided this was the place to go for New Year's Eve. We booked for 8pm and as required called in before the date to pay the requested £10 per head deposit for 4 of us (myself, my wife, my sister and my grandson).Come the night we arrived about 7.50pm gave our name and were asked to take a seat. Other diners arrived and after a short while were taken through to be seated in the restaurant. On a number of occasions the Head Waiter asked for our name and were we a party of 2. He kept looking at a list. It was obvious that some mistake had been made with the booking. By 8.30pm I said that having been asked for our name a number of times they had obviously made a mistake and asked for my deposit back. The waitress said they were busy and she had only asked for our name once. At this point the Head Waiter, who was working on a calculator, didn't even look up but snarled give him his money back.Whilst I accept that mistakes can be made it was the total lack of the courtesy of an explanation or apology which I find totally unacceptable and will not be returning.

We were impressed by positive reviews of diners so decided to order takeaway but found the experience less good. We were quoted half an hour to pick up, and arrived a few minutes later than that and then had to wait a further half an hour without any apology or acknowlegement. The bill was not itemised and I felt that I was in the way. Urdu conversations always make me feel I am being talked about rather than served as a customer waiting. It was Friday evening and the restaurant was busy (but not full), but if they can't handle take aways with the same level of service that diners have mentioned in other reviews then they should perhaps review whether they offer takeaways at busy times. The food was reliably standard fare, but not sepctacular.

Visiting the area and stumbled across Millenium. What a nice place, a warm welcome with really friendly staff, the food was excellent and service second to none. Finished the meal off with a cup of steaming hot fresh coffee and a mint, perfect! Would definitely visit again if in the area.

I had 3 high quality Indian meals out whilst on a recent trip back to the UK and all were uniformly good. I couldn't say that this was better or worse than the others, but it was a very pleasant night out, with good food, attentive but not overpowering service, nice ambiance and tasteful surroundings. Reasonable prices and they were happy to let us linger and talk, although to be fair it was mid-week and pretty quiet.

Lisa is wonderful and makes you feel at home straight away, and the rest of the staff are so pleasant and polite. Mohammad and his team offer a friendly service with excellent food and a wide variety of dishes. Even more, he is happy to make a dish to your liking should you wish. The best Indian in the region!!

I have been coming here for years. The service is second to none and the dishes that are produced in the kitchen, are out of this world. From the outside it appears to be something ordinary, but as soon as you step in the door, you are in for a treat. The prices are fair and the portions are good. The staff really know how to look after you.Give it a try, you will not be disappointed.

The food here is tasty and well presented. We visited on a busy Saturday evening and found the staff very welcoming and they bent over backwards to be helpful and very polite. They open doors for you on entry and exit. I cannot fault this restaurant at all and would recommend to anybody. Definitely the best restaurant in Durham give it a try.

The Millenium has always been a go-to place for my father and I nearly every time we go for a meal out as it provides us with a fantastic sit in meal or takeaway everytime we visit without fail. We have visited the restaurant frequently over at least the last eight years and have never been dissapointed. The restaurant is kept spotless with a traditional indian theme and decorations; each table is decorated perfectly, seats are comfortable both in the restaurant and in the waiting area, and the restrooms are kept spotless also. All members of staff are extremely friendly, polite and well trained, and never fail to take your coat for you and see you out when you leave. Food is of exceptional quality; the restaurant offers a wide range of indian food and curries range in strenghts from korma to vindaloo,a small english menu is also provided for fussy eaters. The dessert menu offers traditional desserts and coffees along with a wide selection of ice creams (coconut being a personal family favourite) Overall I would rate this as my personal favourite place to eat in Durham, and have had a birthday meal out there for the last four years. Would definitely reccommend it to anyone and believe that although pricey, is always worth the money :)

Always enjoy spicy curries, like Madras or Vindaloo. The flavours and meat quality here are superb. It's just a smallish place, off the main road, but the food is worth the lack of ambience.

I had heard and read so much about this Indian Restaurant that I was really looking forward to it.The initial feeling of expectation was soon blown away,I was met by a sullen looking waiter, who showed me to my table,he asked if I wanted a drink, and when I said yes,he out the menus on the next table and walked away without another word,he came back minutes later with a flat looking pint of Cobra, and it was,he asked if I was ready to order, when I said I hadn't got a menu he took them back from the other table put them on mine and walked away again.I thought the meal has to be better, and ordered their mince tandoori in a puri bread and Mutton bhuna with channa rice along with a paratha.I don't know how they tandoori mince, but it didn't work, and the mutton bhuna was tough, when I was expecting a succulent melting dish, the rice and paratha were OK,but overall the meal was dismal, the second waiter who took away my dishes looked as happy as the first, when he asked how my meal was,I told him disappointing,he went away, brought back my bill and one after eight chocolate, nothing said about my comment about the meal.Hopefully I got them on a bad night, but I expected better,I paid £23 for this meal, for that it should have been a lot better than it was.

This is a great find. Food is delicious. The restaurant is elegant but prices are reasonable. I would prefer it a little cheaper considering that the neighborhood is not worth a visit (the area is not nice, but is safe! now worries about that), but again our money are wisely used to prepare delicious dishes!

Only just started going to this restaurant after recommendations (and our regular haunt going downhill) and have to say we won't be going anywhere else in a hurry. Friendly, helpful staff, clean premises, and exceptional food. Only a little more expensive than others, and you can see where the money goes in the dishes.

The staff will attend to your every need adapting dishes to suit your taste, they are very polite but we've been regulars for so long now they are like family and game for a laugh. The atmosphere is great and the furnishings are clean, tidy and what you would expect of a posh restaurant. The choice of food is excellent too much to choose from as they are all as good as each other. We have booked private parties 3 times on a Saturday afternoon and the value has been exceptional, family can't wait for next year's do!! Special menu on Thursday and Sunday, book early to get a table. Price not cheap but if you have any left take it home for tomorrows lunch! Highly recommended

Very good food. Decided to give this place a go the other week. We had a box meal and salt/pepper fries. It was tasty. The place inside doesn't look the most advertising, reason for dropping a star.

I ordered takeaway this evening. Although the food was tasty, I would suggest if you are hungry, don't bother! For instance, my curry had three pieces of chicken!
