Great gluten free Fish and chips! Really pleased to find this place. Tasted great!

A superb fish and chip shop with wonderful food, generous portions, excellent value, flawless service and staffed by absolute gentlemen. I highly recommend this gem of a fish and chips shop.

We placed an order via phone this evening (a Friday) and were told it would take 25 minutes. I arrived around 20 minutes later and it was chaos outside, I think they may have taken too many orders for capacity and there was quite a crowd around the shop. I watched people come and go (and equally some waiting with me) for 50 minutes before I finally went in to ask staff whether my order had been forgotten. They weren't sure which was mine and then on finding it had written a completely different name on my receipt (did not remotely resemble mine). They then said 10 minutes. Another gentleman (who had been waiting nearly as long) challenged them on his own order as it appeared they had given his order to someone of the same surname. When they finally gave him his, he asked them again about mine for me, and they then made it on the spot. I was finally given it 1hr 20 mins after I placed it. A lengthy prep time especially for a Friday evening is not the issue - it's the lying to customers that it will be 25 mins (which it was clear they told every customer this evening who was waiting outside) and it actually taking well over an hour, and I could name a million things I would rather do on my Friday evening then be stood on the pavement in Millbrook Square staring in to space (despite the friendly company of the other hungry people waiting). The food was tasty but this has put us off ordering from there ever again to be honest, it's not worth it and it seems chaotically organised. They need to be realistic in their cooking times and be honest about it/have some compassion for their customers.

Millbrook fish and chips gone down hill, pensioners F&C a few weeks ago £4.50 a couple of weeks ago £5.50 today £6.50, chips were rubbish, dry and all shapes and Sizes ,fish, a small fish and a half a fish, the staff, multicultural ,polite and helpful,. bring back Memet.

Great fish and chips and a good price too. Fed 8 adults for less than £60!!

Missing something since new owners took over. Still well priced, but chips are just dry, fish disappointing. Always busy, staff lovely, but as a fish and chip shop, sadly I would avoid now. Curry sauce is weirdly watery, wait time is 30 mins at busy times and the whole experience is just a little frustrating. I am not alone, the many people waiting also discussing the same issues. Shame as have been coming here for many years :-(

This. Is the best Fish and Chips Shop so far from the ocean. Amazing prices and food. The service is amazing. The staff are lovely. I don't go anywhere else for my Chippy Tea unless I am at the beach. ❤️

Fab fish and chips shop. Always busy and for good reason. The outside wait is part of the fun. Only thing to be aware of is cash only but there's a machine the other side of the carpark.

Calling ahead is pointless. You arrive ten minutes before says it's going to be ready and pay and still waiting 35 mins

Just fancied some nice fresh chips for dinner, waited 40 minutes for one large portion of chips (which wasn’t that big) & when we tried to eat them they were so bad we had to throw them away. They were hard, dry, stale and tasted like old oil. Save your money and go elsewhere!

The fish and chips is literally some of the best I've had. We go regularly and wouldn't go anywhere else locally. I have no idea why they don't operate an electronic ticket system with a number to display though. They expect everyone to wait outside and simply shout names out. It works as a system, but only just!

Simply put, the best chippy around. Large portions, cooked to perfection. Friday and Saturday night are always busy, so be prepared to wait a little longer. Trust me, it is worth it.

Waited over 30 mins. Chips overcooked tasted like the had been reheated. Chicken again overcooked and dry. Fish cake ok. Lots of people asking how long there order was going to be. Chaos behind the counter !.

I do NOT want to recommend Millbrook Fish and Chips, because the queues are long enough already!!! :-) As usual, perfectly cooked haddock, chips, mushy peas and a lovely steak and onion pie, all freshly made and just perfect! Keep up the great work team!!

Always good crispy battered fish

New rude, unhelpful staff. Simple order, half of it missing then told I could drive back and collect the rest as 'mistakes happen'. Apology not an apology given tone it was delivered with. Never gone elsewhere, will never now go again. Dreadful weather, roads flooded, no I won't be returning. The lovely front of house lady not there....obvs without her you get this.

Of course they forgot half our order when we picked it up? Thank god we checked before driving off and they were about to close as well. Everything is battered SO HEAVILY that it’s literally doughy like a raw doughnut or something inside! Also the curry sauce is very lumpy and the mushy peas are terrible. The battered sausage has a bad aftertaste. Fish and portions weren’t bad and chips were great but the battering was terrible!

Best Fish & Chips this end of Oxfordshire! We travel from Abingdon to get fish & chips from here as they are cooked perfectly & fresh. The staff are always polite and friendly in what must be a stressful, busy & hot environment!

Fabulous gluten free fish and chips

Whenever I go I ask for lightly battered GF cod & chips the only person in the shop who is capable of getting this correct is Jake. If it’s fried by anyone else it’s pure crispy batter and you can’t even taste the cod. Today was a typical example asked for lightly battered and got over fried and crispy cod. I called to let them know and the young rude, arrogant girl on the phone told me Jake wasn’t in and not to bother coming back. This is not the first time she has been rude to me. They may just be a chip shop but they could all do with going on a customer service course. All they are interested in is seeing the queue go down and taking your money. I would rather give up my Friday fish and chips than handing over any more of my hard earned cash.

We have lived here for only one month and have paid three visits. Very good experience and the quality is excellent in every aspect. Well done! See you soon.

The best fish and chips in the Didcot/Wantage/Abingdon area. I drive across from Harwell because your fish and chips and considerably better than anything in Didcot.

I did put 3 stars but not getting what you pay for should be 1 star. Nothing like they used to be, second time ordering a large and a small fish and got two small. Fish is not battered as well anymore, soggy and the chips weren’t fully cooked. That’s another Wantage take away that’s got worse this year.

Best and only chippy in Grove. Standard fish and chips & pea fritters are 7-8 out of 10 depending on the freshness of the chips. Not a fan of anything else on the menu.

Love the food here. All the staff are very friendly. Food is always piping hot aswell as good portion sizes and great prices. 👍🏻

Have used them twice in a week both times food forgotten we live far so can’t just pop back. Rung to complain and the attitude and disrespect to customers was vile. Never using them again due to lack of customer service, inability to give what is paid for and shear rude attitude of staff.

Im surprised this is 5* currently! Dont get me wrong, its not bad but its by no means good!, its just the only option in grove and there us only one other option in wantage. Chips are pretty good which is a plus, customer service is average, last time i was in there they didnt ask if I wanted salt and vinegar, they just wrapped my meal up. If you order a savoloy, they microwave it without water and its always burst and dry (ordered 3 times in the past couple of years). You have to bring cash (no card), you have to wait outside in the cold. Honestly, if they had another chip shop close and competing with them I dont think they would do as well as they are.

Be careful if you don't have cash. This takeaway only deals in cash. Wonder why .......

It is one of the best fish and chips I have been to for quality (and quantity) of the fish and chips. They get very busy unsurprisingly, but food never takes too long, and service is very friendly. It is a take out only.

This is our absolute FAVOURITE fish and chips we've ever eaten from and visited, the staff are so wonderful and we look forward to seeing them whenever we go! The food is delicious and always amazing quality and taste. 100/10 recommend!!

Have used this fish and chip shop on several occasions now. The food and especially the chips are beautifully cooked. The staff are very friendly and welcoming.

Had food from here tonight, had high expectations but it wasn't great, haddock was a bit dry and over cooked, batter was really thick and greasy. Chips were a bit cold and soggy. Kids meal was very good though, so would try again and maybe try something different. Staff were excellent and order was prompt

Small portions for a large fish and chips!

Stopped in for lunchtime today for a quick and easy option. I was very impressed with the meals one all fronts. The size of portions, quality of the ingredients and cooking were top notch. If I could give any feed back is that offering a Card/contactless payment option would be a good addition.

Excellent but portions far to much.

This is a review for the online ordering system which is a complete waste of time. Placing an order online generates a collection time but on arriving to collect your much anticipated fish and chips you’ll find that they only add the order to the queue when you arrive to collect so on busy nights you will still have to wait around for half an hour or so. The fish and chips once you get them have always been good

Soggy batter on the fish and the battered sausage. Chips were a bit dry. Fish a bit tasteless. Curry sauce was a very odd watery gravy like substance. Didn’t rate it.

I feel they are only serving to customers with Covid because what I had was tasteless ,compared to what I had here previously last year was a good quality portion of chips. Maybe I will go a 3rd time to make a final desicion. But I'd of rather spend £3 on a meal deal at Tesco opposite yesterday.

These are definitely the best fish and chips in the area. Always cooked fresh and always crispy. Give the battered halloumi and battered saveloys a try too for a naughty treat. You won’t be disappointed!

Very good experience, handled the social distance/order situation very well. It is very popular so be prepared for a 10-15 minute wait unless you order via phone for collection on a Friday night. Service was excellent and the food was delicious, we will be making sure we visit regularly. One element that would be useful would be for card/contactless payments to be accepted, hopefully this is something that will be introduced sooner rather than later.
