Milk and Honey Cafe Bar in Edinburgh, City of

My family and I were excited about visiting Milk & Honey. However our experience was dire. The prices are exorbitant and the service is second-rate. The food was forgettable in a characterless environment and not worth a repeat visit. AVOID!!!

We’ve visited Milk & Honey three times during our visit in Dornoch! The breakfast and lunch was amazing, service very friendly. We’ve had the best haggis there too!

We had breakfast at this beautiful little cafe... it looks gorgeous, the food was lovely (especially the warm donut!), great really hot coffee & such a cheerful, friendly guy presiding over all of this.. nothing was too much trouble & he really brightened up a chilly, rainy morning. It was just a quick breakfast before we set off on our journey back to York, but really memorable. Thanks very much 😊👍

Lovely menu although service was terrible, very slow and disorganised. The lunches arrives at different times. Eventually the last two meals came, one burned and one undercooked. Although the staff were lovely and very apologetic. This Restaurant has great potential if the staff became more organised. Not sure we will go back, although the menu was lovely and the sandwiches, baguettes and croissants were gorgeous.

Me and two friends were lured in for lunch by the amazing décor and flowers everywhere! The place looks stunning and it was a very stylish place to sit with lovely atmosphere. The service and food however did not meet the same standard and unfortunately did not live up to our expectations. We stood at the door for quite some time before being seated then eventually were pointed to a table before being left again with no menus. A waitress was cleaning tables all around us and remarked "I'll be with you soon I just need to clean up after breakfast" which we found an odd comment. Surely you would seat new customers and give them menus as soon as they arrive then go back to cleaning empty tables? Given we were on our lunch hour we were very aware of the time. Eventually the waitress brought us menus after around 20 minutes. We went to order but everything we tried to order was apparently not available and we were told the turkey was "seasonal" as if it was a ridiculous suggestion despite the fact it was on the menu. I ordered eggs benedict with bacon and my friends both went up to the counter to order sandwiches given that the menu didn't appear to offer any resemblance to what was actually available. Soon after, my food arrived although it was eggs benedict with salmon rather than bacon. One waiter who was really helpful offered to change it however I felt it would be an awful shame to waste a full plate of food so said I'd take the salmon one anyway. I was three quarters of the way through mine, which was average in quality with an unusually thick hollandaise, and the pre-packed sandwiches still hadn't been served. We had to go up to the counter and chase these and seconds later they arrived. We found this very strange given that all that was involved was placing them on a plate. They had clearly been forgotten about. We waited again for our plates to be cleared however eventually went up to the counter to ask for the bill. The one waiter who had given us good service throughout had offered 20% off our bill for the mix-ups which we really appreciated and felt this redeemed the experience slightly. This was passed over to the person taking our payment then when I got my receipt I realised no discount had been taken off. The information was passed across in front of us, very clearly, a matter of minutes before so I struggle to believe this was "forgotten". We were really disappointed as feel the place has loads of potential but the service is letting it down. The layout of the place means there really needs to be staff assigned to the front area and staff assigned to the area around the counter. We understand that people have bad days and would give it another chance but feel it could be much better given the beautiful setting! The food would really need to be a bit more special given the prices. It seems the atmosphere and style of the place is a bit wasted.

Visited here today with my husband, lovely place, nice chilled atmosphere and friendly staff. We had breakfast which was well presented and tasty, although black pudding was a little over cooked. Will definitely return and will recommend to friends & family. The next table were having afternoon tea, it looked great too.

I often come to Milk and Honey for coffee, cakes and sandwiches so I thought nothing of it to go for breakfast on Sunday. I was sadly disappointed by the sad plate of food put in front of me. I had toast served with avocado, feta and eggs. Firstly the toast was warmed bread, avocado was unseasoned and it was served on a plate of rocket which had clearly been left out all morning as was wilted. My parter had the full breakfast which was okay but nothing to be talked about. We paid £35 for the two breakfasts and 4 coffees and left disappointed. I will still come back for coffee and cake as cannot fault them on this and the cafe itself is lovely to be in but do not book breakfast here.

Been here a couple of times and service is usually quite slow and not the most welcoming. Had a couple of cakes which were really nice. Cake cabinet always well stocked and looks tasty so would come back to try more cake

Great value, great quality, great service. 100% recommended. Fantastic service from friendly and efficient staff all trying really hard to accommodate the varied needs of customers. Large portions of high quality food. No faults at all.

I have visited milk and honey twice now. First time the waiter was standing outside having a cigarette and saw me walk in and and I stood for a little while waiting to order. Coffee was really nice and I wanted to come back again for breakfast as I saw a ham and cheese croissant which looked appealing. I came back next morning and got a latte and the croissant. I was shocked that it came to £11.05 am sure it was. The coffee was £3.00 i think which is fine but to serve a croissant with ham and cheese for about £8.05 was ridiculous. I could have got a cheaper one from costa or made it cheaper myself. I was wanting to come here with my partner for dinner one evening as it looks nice and cosy but now I'm not exactly sure due to how expensive just two things was to take away. I'm not shy on spending money for things but I wouldnt say a latte and croissant is worth £11 odd

Had a flat white, fruit tea, warm fruit scones and Portuguese natas. All absolutely amazing. Staff all really friendly too. Highly recommended.

Amazing improvement under new management! Came here a few months ago and we were really not impressed with the service and said we would not come back. Decided to come back as we were in the area today and we were very impressed! The staff were really friendly and now are doing table service a great turnaround as it’s a really nice spot! Would recommend again!

Tried this venue when the usual one was closed and WHAT A FIND! A beautiful, warm, bright and cheerful Venue where we were afforded a warm welcome and enjoyed coffee, pastries and cakes. It also boasts a SUPERB assortment of hand-made chocolates which will make a great present. Can’t wait for my next visit.

My visit earlier this month bore out all the recent negative comments about an incredibly poorly managed and chaotic front of house - no welcome, lots of staff wandering/standing about not serving or clearing tables and no sense of the need to keep vigilant to customers needs and pick up when they are obviously looking to order, long wait for order to be taken, long wait for food to arrive (tasteless microwaved frittata and minuscule salad), then being asked by several staff if my order had been taken while waiting 15 minutes, my coffee removed while I wasHopefully the message will get through that people need to be welcomed when they arrive, invited to true a seat and have it explained that it’s table service. Etc etc etc. Definitely don’t see this surviving unless things are smartened up but with good service and prices reduced a littler and quality very vastly improved they could have a captive market as an independent offering in George Street By contrast their much smaller branch in Queen Street - more of a true away with a small seating area at the back - has been great each visit I have made.

What a lovely find. Beautiful cafe / coffee shop in George St. warm and welcoming and beautifully finished, love their branding. Wide range of hot and cold drinks, loads of lovely pastries plus savoury snacks and just a lovely place to hang out. Thoroughly recommend.
