Portions have shrunk a lot and prices are high! Only got 5 skinny ribs, you used to get at least 8!

Last 3 times ive been the chips have not been fresh on all meals sausage dinners chips curry and fish and chips they where disgusting and all family of 4 had to bin them from there meals if they was fresh i wouldnt complain but spending roughly £20/£25 each time i would expect them to be eatable not for the bin very dissappointed when there fresh there nice but very rare now

For me, the best Fish and chips around! Throw curry or gravy on! Even peas! Top drawer! Great staff as well Roll on Phat Fryday 👍🏽

Always enjoyed Mike's, not been since they got took over Went today , ordered a Chinese, sLt and pepper ribs , don't know any animal with ribs this small , more like knuckles there was no bone in them just like the grissel ends and it's all disguised by a coating , salt and pepper chicken was overcooked and the spicy noodles had no spice and raw onion , the special chowmein had no chicken or beef in it , it was just charsui with the odd prawn , with a little slab of ham charsui and chicken on top , 2 meals and a side and I had the pleasure of paying £22 for it aswell , definitely won't be going back , The fortuna is alot better for Chinese .

I've tried them all and its good food, good price and usually a a bit of banter with the staff. Always open to which is handy. Certainly one of the best chippy's in the area. Best in Skem.

I was very polite and asked them for well done chips. Their response was and I quote ‘we will do it this time, but if you ask again, we will say no.’ Ive never had this issue at other chip shops before and they made out they were doing me favor. The bill was £6.10 which In comparison to Sandy Lane Chippy up the road where it usually costs me £5. In addition the staff are a lot friendly and offer a better customer experience. Unfortunately Sandy lane was closed as I visited at 1530 hours. I will not be venturing back to Mikes in hurry and I urge others to do the same as it was an unpleasant experience.

My friend said it was good, chow mein well he must had different one to me same night, I was disappointed in it, I my favourite from chippies this one It was dry, tasteless meats, had no vegetables in it, two king prawns, no prawns or mushrooms. I had some good meals from Mikes.

Mikes Fish and Chips is a good Chippy popular with locals and workers from the many businesses in the area. Nice friendly staff and good food. Some great deals on offer too.

This is our local chippy and we always choose mikes! Fish and chips are great generous portions, the meals deals they have on during the week are great, especially with a large family, we go At least once a month and they always have a variety of deals, specials and offers.

Good prices lots of choice prompt and efficient the only drawback the curry sauce everything else is great

Bank Holiday Monday and all chinese restaurants are closed around here, so bit the bullet and ordered crispy chilli chicken from Mikes. Our previous visit we got the fish & chip 3.99 deal which we found to be like eel in batter and was binned. Never again we thought. Got home and found the chicken to be a dry cold lump of mess. No sauce at all, a few onions and chilli slices thrown in, When mixed with the rice, it was tasteless andinedible. Thrown in the bin, absolute disgrace, I have just wasted money again. This has to be the worst Chinese food in the UK

I phoned to order some Chinese food, however lady spoke very poor English so we visited shop instead. We have gone here for years but it’s been taken over recently and food has gone steadily worse. My fish and chips weren’t cooked properly and my husband wasn’t happy with his chicken chow mien. We will not be going back.

came here the other week for fish and chips, after reading in the local paper it was 2.50 for fish and chips, got a shock when my wife said it was 4.50 and the fish was small as a hobbit, looked like it was caught down some ones back garden, don't thing we will be going there again.

We regularly eat from Mikes, their phone order service is fantastic to save queueing at busy times. Monday and Tuesday offer of cut price Chinese meals is fantastic. You can feed a family for under £20. Wednesday is cut price fish and chips. The variety of choices is really great. The staff are helpful and attentive, the shop is always clean and bright. One of the best take away shops in the area.

Just had a fish sandwich and it was lovely! Fish was cooked nicely and wasn't too greasy. Can't comment on anything they do though.

Mikes has a varied menu, they cook lots of food fresh. The staff are pleasant and the venue is always spotless. I particularly like the TVs and seating which helps with the wait when your order meals... the wait isn't overly long that said.

Always packed, go to the other chippys the owner is stood behind the counter scratching his backside waiting for a customer, enough said. Go to this one on a Friday and see the queue, it is like this for a reason Because its the BEST

A bit hit and miss with this place. Used to be really nice, but on my recent visit, got a sausage dinner and the chips just tasted very greasy and the sausages were full of bits of bone. Was absolutely disgusting. Will never go here...

Greasy limp chips, fish like rubber, staff grumpy and I'm not convinced about the hygiene. Definitely the WORST chippy in Skelmersdale.

Travel to Mikes chippy in Old Skem from Ashurst. The meals are very good but the chips are a bit of a let down. They are fine when you first open them but for some reason I can't explain after a few minutes they go crusty and lose heat very quickly.I find this is happening in most of the chip shops in Skem and put it down to a poor quality oil the chips are cooked in but I might be wrong in that assumption.

It's not just this month we've been here. It's been A LOT of times. Every time ace food and served by friendly faces. U got the normal British fair to Chinese and u don't have to go to a foreign kebab house that are dirty and expensive to get one as they do a beltin donner too. Lots of space inside and you can watch TV while u wait. Instead of going across the road to be stared at in a smelly kebab shop. Top place mikes, all brits keep it going.

Go here quite often, as it's close to work and good value for money and they make good chips. The staff are always pleasant, even if they are rushed off their feet. They always donate free chips to our charity events too and none of the other local businesses do this.

I have been using this chippy for many years and always give them the benefit of may be they are busy, but have got the wrong orders so many times now, and then having to go back there which is 10 mins drive. I ordered Prawn Tomatoe and got Prawn Toastie the Curry is never the same every thime you go in there. Would only recommend them for Fish and Chips

We visit Mikes regularly, as we live close by, and the fish is really lovely. They cook it specially for me, as I don't like a lot of batter, and it's great.My family have the Chinese and say that's good too.There have been a couple of times when the chips are better than others but I think it depends what time you go but they are still great.

This is a very good chippy. Food and service is always of a high standard.We had cod and chips. The batter was crisp and thin how Ilike it and the chips hot and delicious.The girl serving was very friendly and the owner Mike always game for a laugh.He agreed that he is the image of Paddy from Emmerdale.

I have always been a regular customer to Mike's Chippy for years, but on my last visit there, I ordered chips and beansprouts. The women shouted through to someone in the back my order, & a few minutes later, a man appeared from the back to say my beansprouts are on. The man then started flipping the chips with one hand while be waited, and started picking items from his nose with the other... Obviously I won't be returning. The women couldn't understand why I found it disgusting either! What?!

I had some friends over visiting my house for the first time and we agreed on this food service to grab ourselves some dinner. We went in and ordered food and she put vinegar on my chips without asking (I don't like vinegar) my friend politely let her know that this was a mistake and that I only wanted salt, she immediately jumped to giving him grief, 'Well why did you say to put vinegar on then'We politely explained it was a simple mistake and likely just a mishearing. Then she asked if my other friend wanted vinegar on his chips, to which I replied "Yeah, one minute let me check" to which he didn't, however she had already splashed vinegar all over his food. Again, we explained this was incorrect and not what we asked for.At this point her, and her two colleagues immediately started calling us liars, giving us grief over a simple misunderstanding. One of which even remarked 'perhaps you shouldn't have been lying'Calling us liars, really? Then the manager did nothing, simply remarked to his colleagues 'Are they complaining?' to which they simply said we were just lying and idiots.We quickly paid and left and once we got home I rang up the restaurant and asked to speak to the manager, once I got on the phone to him to ask if we could talk about what happened he hung up!Never have I seen such awful customer service, I will never again go to this establishment, especially not when they share a road with several other take-away services.

Terrible service, extremely rude staff and the manager was not even bothered when the customer was spoken to in a horrific manner. The food wasn't that good either, there are plenty of other takeaways in the area that provide better food and more importantly a friendlier service!

Let's get this straight Mikes is a Chip Shop and Chinese takeaway so for that reason I can't score it a 5. No idea why Trip advisor categories restaurant and takeaways as the same they are clearly not.However I would score Mikes a 5 if i was scoring takeaways.I've been going to Mikes for years and I've never had a terrible meal so I am shocked to see some bad reviews. I can honestly say that Mikes is by far the best Chippy in Skelmersdale whiteout doubt.If your looking for a good Chippy Tea then this is the Chippy for you.The Chinese meals are always good too and there is a huge selection.

Good food cooked well, wether Chinese or English I have never had a bad meal here. The staff are really helpful, never a long wait no matter how big the queue is.

A nice local chippy which provides a tasty easy meal a reasonable price offering a mix of cuisines so covers most taste parking available nearby so easy to nip for the chippy supper

I went to Mikes chippy tonight at around 4.45pm I was with my partner, I asked for a bag of chips as they're are really good and you get a lot, this bag of chips had to feed 5 of us! I went outside to answer the phone, I got the chips and as I've got home they're was only enough chips for 1 person, I also paid £1.20 for these! I don't rate this very good I don't know what is wrong with them tonight! It's disgraceful.

Fish is fab. Special fried rice with bbq sauce not so good sauce has no taste an looks like its been watered down. ....salt and pepper ribs and chicken are also good.overall good value. ..but you get what you pay for. ..

We love Mike's chippy. From the monthly take-outs to the time my daughter had had her first baby and, having been at the labour all day, we stumbled in there late in the evening and they politely listened to me regale them with tales of the birth - we always look forward to chippy nights from Mike's. The staff are lovely, the food is always delightful and it's great value for money. Thanks Mike's for being there for us in Old Skem :)

Me and my colleagues visit Micks at least once a month. None of us (there are 6 of us) have ever had any complaints about the food. We only order off the Chinese menu and think it is the best around. The staff are very friendly and they look happy in their jobs. This is reflected in the standard of the food on offer. A clue to how good it is can be found in the fact that the local Police and Fire fighters are repeat customers. Always a good sign! Try the spicy Singapore vermicelli or the sweet and sour chicken. Forget the one star reviews.

Mikes chippy is the best in Old Skem and if it weren't for the fish batter being a bit soggy and on occasion disappointing they would be the best in the whole of Skelmersdale. Shop and staff are clean and friendly, menu has lots of choices including Chinese food that is better by far then even the local Chinese shops! The prices are good and always have new offers available along with meal deals too.

just look the beef and mushroom dinner, the beef curry also very nice as is the sweet and sour, best curry in town for me

English and Chinese food, all very nice and value for money. Oh, and they do kebabs with loads of sauses and salad.

We always use this chippy, when it's just us and when we have family over for Chinese. Always satisfies us and our visitors. Everyone we recommend it to is impressed as well. Portion sizes are huge! We get a set meal for four between six and a portion of chips extra and there's usually quite a lot left over. Food is always tasty- will remain our usual chip shop!
