Midwest in Northampton

Ordered an LA chicken burger. Was a dry chicken breast in a bun .Wasnt asked if I wanted extra toppings and at the very least expected some lettuce or cheese or sauce. Had to come home and add those myself. Won’t be revisiting.

Oh my goodness! What a burger! We visited for the first time on Bank Holiday Monday hearing it was opening for a special charity event. We had a Messy Jessie and a Belly Buster and they most certainly lived up to our high expectations. The meat itself was succulent and very tasty - cooked on what I am told is an original Burger grill from the USA. A proper BBQ flavour. The salad was fresh and crunchy and the sauces delicious. We were also impressed to finally have some proper chips. Hot and crispy from proper potatoes (not a French Fry to be seen)!

I went to Midwest when it first opened well remember the milkshakes, My mum lived in Northampton and I would indulge in a burger whenever visiting from London, on fact I used to enjoy the burgers at the predecessor the Gainsborough in the middle of town.My sister lives in Isham and I plan to hit the Midwest when visiting this summer as well of course as Gallonnes

Once again a superb meal, the best burgers anywhere and I have eaten in many places, been using this takeaway since it opened in 1979. We had a 1/2lb chilli and a 1/2lb cheese with onion, delicious.

I went for a burger - actually ended up with an excellent Bacon Butty and large chips, but the interesting part was the history lesson from another customer, Ian, who remembered when he was 17 the lovely milkshakes. Having been a customer for 20 years, I did not believe him, so we called Carol over, who in her usual sardonic way, said Midwest did do milkshakes, but it was apparently not 'cost effective', even 25 years ago. Ian then remembered why Stormbringers were so called, perhaps less said about that.... How many other eateries can you go to and get a history lesson as well! Brilliant; you may not get milkshakes anymore, but the burgers and history are to die for.

Dropped in here with family on a Friday evening. We had five burgers which were cooked very quickly with minimum wait despite it being really busy. Staff were very friendly and burgers were all excellent, fresh, good quality, great taste and really good value for money. We have used this takeaway several times in the past and, to our shame, haven’t been for a while. We will definitely change this and will be back very soon. An excellent place for burgers that are so much better than the big chain takeaways - burgers how they should be.

I was out for a ride this evening and was wondering what i could get for my dinner. Riding down Wellingborough Road, i spotted Midwest, which used to be a favourite in the 80s and 90s. I pulled in and ordered the corn belly buster 1/4 pounder with fries. Got home put the bike away and sat down. What a brilliant surprise, it was just how i remember, burger was meaty, bun nice and fresh. Salad good and the corn relish i hadn't had for about 20 years. I'd forgotten how much i liked it. Im full and contented. Thank you Midwest, my love affair is rekindled. I'll be seeing you again very soon. Best burger I've had in years. Nice to know some things haven't changed. Take care. X

Been going here for years, the food is always fab and the service is friendly and efficient! Food is always made to order, is fresh and hot. We regularly phone in the order and food is prepared for us to collect and exactly as ordered. Can't fault them, my go-to for burgers!

The food has not changed in there 40 years as you don't fix what is clearly not broken. I haven't changed my order for over 30 years! Half pound storm Bringer, blue cheese on the chips and homemade coleslaw. Thanks Nick and the the team I miss the sit down days at Merlin's but will continue to support you always.

A hidden treasure on the Wellingborough Road. The chips are chunky and delicious, with great quality meaty burgers.

I like this place! OK I'm bias my son worked there, but they serve great food, the staff are lovely and the non-mainstream burgers such as Down on the Ranch well worth a try. In these difficult times, it's great to have something that is constant. And well done Honey, impeccable service - it's what Midwest do so well as well, employ [mostly - sorry David / Carol!] youngsters in their first jobs, and then send them off.

Fantastic long serving burger joint !with mouth watering sweet corn topping, this is undoubtedly the best burger place in Northampton, and yes I’ve tried far to many.

Not visited this Northampton Institution for a while and glad to be back. Nothing like a tasty takeaway to brighten up a wet and windy evening in the Midlands and "Midwest" does not let you down Freshly prepared food, reasonably priced, ample portions, and served with a smile. We will be back again soon.

Telephoned an order though for 10 of us family visiting from New Zealand. Picked the order up 10 minutes later. All our burgers was very very tasty. Highly recommend. Defo visit again

Midwest has been serving some of the best burgers in Northampton for years now and we still visit on a monthly basis.Char grilled burgers up to 3/4 lbs, jumbo hot dogs all served with chunky chips.Telephone orders are best at peak times to save you waiting.Occasionally the burgers can be over cooked but 99% of the time they are lush! Much better than the usual chain fast food spots and you’ll be supporting local business too.

Been using this place occasionally for many years. Small venue but food is freshly cooked, the burgers very meaty, and the bacon decent. There are several menu choices available but it pretty much comes down to a 4oz patty, what sauce you want, cheese or bacon. The portion of chips that come with the meal is quite generous. Whilst the main mgr has been there for a long time it seems that there is a higher turnover with other staff. Consequently, sometimes the food is not as good as it usually is. Some staff drown the burger in sauce. Some barely salt the chips. Telling the staff doesn't change anything as they rarely communicate back to the mgr. Nevertheless, the burgers are decent. I would like the option to have them without chips. Apparently you can but it costs the same.

The classic Ham and eggs reinvented with an egg on a pork burger. Excellent food, great staff and value for money. Well done carol et al!

In the 40 years I've bought burgers from Midwest, l have never been disappointed. Cooked fresh to order, excellent customer service.

1 burger came without bacon which I had to pay extra for. Boxes were stacked on their side so the food was squashed.

We enjoy going to this place and regularly get food from here. Have been enjoying our meals. They now take card so that's great.

Top notch burgers, best in Northampton by far! I literally been here loads of times, I love there burgers. A very good selection on there menu.

Not visited Midwest for a while but burgers and chips were always great. Visited today and burgers were still great but what has happend to the chips. It may be they had been left under the lights which never used to happen but these were soggy and the worst chips I have tasted in years. Where were the crispy chips with a soft center. If you could buy the burgers without these terrible chips I would go back but as they come as a package I will not bother. Come on owner sort out your staff as you have a reputation to live up to or do you not care!

I have been visiting Midwest for almost 40 years and never ever have I had a bad meal. I would not go anywhere else, the burgers are that tasty. Thanks to Nick, Carol and team for all their hard work and dedication. Here's to the next 40!!

My dad has been taking his family to Midwest since I was a child, it is his absoloute favourite - and my grandfather used to take my dad to Midwest when he was a boy, it has remained an old time favourite since Midwest opened 30 odd years ago.

Went in today for some Dinner, greeted by a very friendly young lad, food was very lovely and the staff was very friendly. Will defo be going back. Highly recommend.

Used to come to Midwest regularly before moving out of Northampton in 2006. Having recently returned was so glad to see this establishment still going strong! No gimmicks or silly bulging menus with myriads of options, just delicious flame grilled burgers cooked fresh with lovely hot steak cut chips. The acceptance of cards is very handy too (even thought there is an ATM across the street). Bacon Cheeseburger is my favourite! Keep up the good work guys!

We have been a customer for over 20 years and this is the best place in town by a long way, the quality is superb and very friendly staff.

I called in after the T20 Cricket match and having not been here for a few years I was looking forward to a nice burger.

One of the nicest places to eat on Welly Road for quick and easy, inexpensive food. The chicken burger is soo nice and there are lots of options for everyone.

Preordered and arrived to find our burgers ready. Tasty quality burgers with proper bacon (no fat) the chicken breast in the Texan was good too. The chips were fresh, we liked the fact you could see everything being cooked for you.

I would like to think that spending £17 on just burger and chips for 3 I would get decent ones especially when that's what the Midwest are know for a lovely burger, nope by far the worse.

Choose or design your burger, pay and wait a few minutes. Take it outside and scarf immediately. Don't wear fancy clothes as the burger will cause havoc (especially if you have a double). Clean up and go find a pint. Repeat when necessary.

You get a great tasting burger with chips included in the price. The burgers are beautiful and the chips are chunky. I have never had a bad burger and everything tastes fresh. I cannot get over the great value of the menu. The service is friendly too. I recommend if you are in the area you give this a go.

Food is freshly cooked in front of you as you wait with good friendly service! Yes I agree that portion sizes have gone down,but you with find that is common with most restaurants these days ! Only downside is that the burgers can be greasy,but it fills you up ! Also the special's board has some interesting food on too !

Bought a half pounder with cheese and bacon last night, and Im delighted to say the burgers are as tasty today as they were in the 80`s when I lived in Northampton. Well done Mid-West, wish you had a branch in Worcester.

The burgers at Midwest are great, very tasty and defiantly worth the money. Great range of burgers and sauces to try and excellent friendly staff. Food cooked on ordering... lovely burgers cooked on a chargrill all prices include steak cut chips. The bbq sauce is excellent. Recommend to alll ... just a shame they don't deliver.

Have been buying burgers here since it opened, never had anything but good burgers and excellent chips. Burgers are fresh, not frozen and always cooked well. Good selection to choose from, particularly the chicken meat burgers.Chips come out of the freezer, but are the best chips in town, no question about that.Always found the staff to be cheerful.The reception area has been refreshed a time or two, it's always clean, which is not the easiest thing to do with this type of fast food.Good value, good service and good food, what more do you need from a fast food outlet?

I have being using midwest for the last 6 months it is by far the best burger you will find anywhere in Northampton! The staff are friendly and remember you which makes a welcome change. I highly recommend you try it!

I ordered a meal for my family the young man servings was quite rude and dismissive as I was served. I left and when I got home my meal was incorrect I went back and after being told this was what I ordered (which clearly it wasn't) my order was changed with the incorrect meals being thrown in the bin in front of me. (Two ankle biter burgers as I had ordered hot dogs) when I got home I realised that the young lad serving had thrown away one of my special burgers not the ankle biter so I went back for a second time. I expected an apology but was accused of lying so I requested the young lad take the burgers from out of the bin and low and behold my specials burger was in there instead of the apology I was still expecting he muttered profanities under his breath. I requested the name of the management to complain and was told sarcastically 'good luck with that.' Needless to say I will not be returning.

We walked far to try this place wasn't worth it im afraid.. chips are frozen and cheap could have got them from local kebab house.. I expected quality not quantity. anklebiter burger was over cooked dry possibly also frozen and they forgot the cheese. deleting the menu..sorry guys.. I realise you have be established for sometime before you respond with the likes of.. I love the concept of this place but its poorly executed, best of luck with the future though xx <3

Been coming here for years. Can't be beat. Good value! Excellent chips (chunky) which are included in the price. Always great burgers and the veggie option is good- though if I am being super critical could be a slightly wider selection. Personal favourite is Mexican stand off, cheese and jalapeño. Yum yum!

If you're looking for a seriously tasty burger then look no further! This has to be the best take out burger bar in the UK. 100% beef (or chicken if you prefer) and an array of toppings all served with chunky chips results in a take out far superior to anything mcdonalds can provide! Staff are always friendly and service is amazing. You cannot go wrong, how have you missed this gem??

Tuesday 10/2/15,went in at night ordered a Lamb burger with 'Salad' and Chicken burger.We had been babysitting and was looking for a nice takeaway to take home.Big mistake.My Lamb burger meat was tasteless and looked like it had been run over by a steamroller.My Salad consisted of three very thin slices of cucumber and one very thin slice of tomato.And not forgetting the small amount of onions the server slung under the burger with his unprotected hands after just serving someone at the till with change.Then chips deep fried pieces of something?Then we have my wife's Chicken burger,which when home went into the dustbin , it had been deep fried and cremated, very greasy,Same chips.We as a couple are very dissappionted with the food and shall not be returning.

We have been going to Midwest for years and their burgers are lovely and much better than any other takeaway. The chips always used to be fresh and a good serving of them.Unfortunately recently the chips have been getting cooked and left for some time it seems, they are not as fresh and also they don't serve as many chips as they used to, you might find yourself at the fridge after one of their meals these days I'm afraid. I hope they read this and rectify this issue because they are a decent small independent English business who have a great approach to their customers. Please Midwest, go back to cooking chips fresh, even when quiet.

Popped in to grab a quick burger - my first visit. Place was clean, with a nice atmosphere. Ordered the Bacon and Blue Cheese burger: the burger was very nice - a bit of a cut above your usual burger joint. The chips were also very tasty, and were an appropriate portion (not tiny, and not mammoth-sized) size.My wife also ordered some coleslaw, which she pronounced delicious: it seemed fresh and home made.Minor Gripe: If you advertise a bacon and blue cheese burger, put bacon and blue cheese on it! The burger came with a (very tasty) blue cheese sauce instead: this wasn't clear from the menu.Overall though, a recommended burger place: nice to be able to support an independent.

Go on, Burger for your life, you cannot get a better burger anywhere else, I swear, service is always spot on, even when busy they are quick with service and a smile... and these days that counts for a lot, since most people have a job to acknowledge your stood there waiting, miserable buggars, but not MIDWEST, they have it just right, and with that, lots of customers, to prove it so too...... We are loyal and very happy customers of our Midwest, and we now have our Grand-daughters hooked on to Midwest too... so as a treat it's always a Midwest in our house. Keep up the good work... so go on then go and get the burger, you won't regret it........ P.S. They do other foods on the menu too you know!!!!!!!

I agree with most of the other reviews here. However, it only gets 3 stars (from me), for the overly dense Midwestern burger, it was tasty, but could be slightly softer and juicier, although the topping of onion relish, did help matters a bit. The option extra BBQ sauce was too dark and concentrated to my liking (mind you, I'm not a mid-west food expert).The light and fluffy bun and the fries were great! ...so it's quite a good deal for the price.

Great burger, Five star! My wife came here 15 years ago and has been rating Midwest of Northampton for years. I finally had the taste today. Well, beats TGI or any other burger I've had. Better than shake-shack NYC! I had 1/2 with bacon. No salad no sauces just cheese. Good fat chips. Friendly service straight in straight out no messing about. Bring back the milk shakes id love to try one next time. This takeaway kitchen deserves a rating.. See you next time guys!

I completely agree with all the other reviews regarding the taste of Midwest. I have been a regular customer since I moved to Abington some 15 years ago. The quality of food is the same excellent but unfortunately the portion size is now ridiculous what you get are child sized portions a small handful of chips (last time I went there I counted 17) and a small burger with a massively oversized bun. I am a healthy man and not overweight so I'm not a fat guy groping over the small portions I am a normal man and find the portions absolutely ridiculous and because if this I won't be going back as it doesn't represent value for money. Which is a tremendous shame because of how good they used to be and I am also addicted to their blue cheese sauce. Don't believe me pop down and have a burger you will love the taste but will be left hungry.

Proper burgers cooked over flame. Forget the 'flame gilled' plastic burger from a certain fast food chain, or the ones advertised by a freaky clown. These are proper burgers cooked the way you want them with a wide variety of toppings. Great chips as well if the burger isn't enough for you. Only minor niggle is the baps seem too small, or is it that the burgers are too big?

Forget M'ds & Burger king.If you want the BEST BURGERS IN TOWN, then there is ONLY obe place to go. Midwest was started some 30 years ago & I was possibly one of there first customers. I returned for the first time in over 20 years met the same lady & chatted about the olden days. The Burger are as good as the old days phraps Even better great selection & proper chips not skinny fries.
