we called in on Saturday, the food was OK when we left after paying a waitress who was talking to a table by the stairs shouted at us 'have you paid' which jokingly we said no we are doing a runner. she then shouted again ' have you paid' my son then said of course we have paid. it was quite embarrassing an we will not be coming again. We had already been charged £12 for service ! and 50p for charity which I would like to have known more about. I don't remember seeing anywhere about the charity, I don't mind paying towards a charity but would like to know who they are, is it the Michael Cane charity ! The most rude waitress I have ever encountered. Being a restaurant manager I think more training is needed.

Contrary to some reviews on here, our experience was first class. Visited for dinner during our first trip to Exmouth. The welcome was warm and the staff were polite, friendly and very attentive throughout the evening. Yes the prices are higher than you will pay in a pub or chain restaurant, but the quality of the food and presentation of the dishes is truly excellent so more than worth it in my opinion, especially when combined with the front row view out across the Devon shoreline and coast. Others have commented on portion sizes being small but this was not our experience at all (we couldn’t manage dessert!). I had the salt & pepper squid to start, followed by the delicious and highly recommended Indonesian fish curry. My wife had the beetroot salad followed by a perfectly cooked fillet steak. Our first choice of wine was unavailable so we opted for a slightly more expensive alternative, for which we were given a discount as recompense - a lovely gesture which we made no request for. Overall a fantastic evening, we will definitely return.

We came to enjoy the views from the restaurant. Looking at the menu, unfortunately, the prices for food were overpriced, most mains over £20, so we opted for drinks. We had been placed upstairs at our request, unbeknown that we needed to order food to sit there. Waiting staff were very rude, after more than half an hour of us already sitting upstairs, with drinks, we were told we needed to move, as we were taking up "valuable space". There were more than 10 free tables available upstairs, and no one was queueing to sit in this area. Lovely location, a shame about the frosty staff and ridiculous prices. Signage needs to be improved if you can't enjoy only drinks upstairs.

We’ve been in Exmouth for a couple of years and tried most places to eat but had not tried Mickeys partly because of mixed reviews. Recently we’ve been twice in the last month so this review covers both meals. Service was one of the things mentioned as lacking. Both our visits were very positive with friendly attentive service. It’s slightly odd that they want to check you in on the ground floor even if you have a booking. This means waiting until the staff are not serving others in the bar. Food choice is good with a range of meat, fish and vegetarian options. The burger was very tasty and more recently the seafood curry was delicious. A wide range of drinks choices too. Both food and drinks are pricey and looking at previous reviews the seafood curry has increased by £6 whilst the salt and pepper squid has dropped by £2 so still seems like testing the market. Downside was the restaurant was cold when we got in. The couple on the next table kept their coats on. By the time we left it was warmer with no more people so obviously they turned it up but given the cost that should have been done much earlier. Overall nearly there but just for special occasions.

Very disappointing, booked this for Xmas get together with friends. We had chosen the early dining menu which clearly said Oct-March, 2 courses £25. When we arrived were told it was £32.50 even though website didn't state this. The plaice I ordered was the tiniest piece of fish I have seen and was covered with a custard like sauce with a couple of boiled potatoes, not very inspiring. Friends ordered fish and chips which were OK but soggy chips. £200 for meal with drinks, surprised Michael Caines has put his name to this. Save your money, buy the local fish and chips and enjoy even better views from the prom. It was the Thursday before Xmas and half empty which says it all!!

We had been to the restaurant before and the food was unbelievable real Haute cuisine and the service was excellent. This time we arrived at 1pm for two very special birthdays. My husband was Soon to be 90 and myself 80.The welcome was cursory. The Sevice was slow but we were all happy to be together as a family for a very special occasion Each course gradually came. Six of the party had starters which were easy and quick to prepare. Then there was a long wait At two forty five a waitress came and said I’m sorry but your order did not go through to the kitchen!! It will be about another five minutes My daaughter and I had been waiting for nearly two hours. She and I ordered plaice. It didn’t say on the menu how it was going to be presented. When it came it was just this enormous black fish sitting in a pool of butter no garnish except for a few shrivelled up shrimps no lemon. I ordered side vegetables. A bowl of curly kale came no other vegetable and it was inedible. Thankfully the plaice was properly cooked. By the time we had waded through this most unattractive fish it was so late that there was no time for desserts or coffee. I asked for the bill. When it came I was shown where the service charge was. I said I’m sorry I’m not paying that. I would have thought that the restaurant would have given a drink on the house or a bottle of wine knowing we had a celebration The portions were huge We could have gone downstairs to the bar cafe for that. I feel that they changed from the beautifully refined and exquisitely flavoured dishes to an everyday large meal at high prices. The location is stunning Subsequently I tried to get in touch to complain but to no avail. So I phoned Lympstone Manor to make a complaint to the owner Michael Caines. I spoke to a charming secretary. she said that she would get in touch with them. I left it a day and heard nothing. I emailed Mickeys again and had an almost immediate phone call from the bar manager who apologised profusely and said he would give us 25% off our next bill and a drink on the house We won’t be going back because the type of meals we were offered ere not what we expected

Great cafe/bar downstairs, nice atmosphere. Good for tea during the day or cocktails in the evening. Nice music. Would recommend, and we return regularly. Upstairs in the restaurant is a different story. We like the decor. But it is let down by the food which was rather bland and small, particularly given it is marketed as a premium venue and the high price reflects this but unfortunately the food doesn't. We were disappointed that the menu shown online was not what was available at the restaurant, and this was met quite defensively when we pointed it out. Hopefully they can improve, in which case we would be back to try again.

Had 'Roast On The Coast' 2 Sundays ago it was the worse roast dinner I've ever had complained to Sacha Still waiting on a reply from 👇 Dear Mark Thank you for your comments and feedback, rest assured we have forwarded your comments to a member of our senior team who will be in touch with you shortly. Should you have any queries in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact us. Kind regards Hollie 👆This was reply to original email 👇 Hi Sacha To tell you the truth the meal we had on Sunday 'Roast By The Coast' was terrible. Myself & my wife both had beef it was so undercooked that you couldn't cut it & definitely couldn't chew it. I sent mine back & had the only other option which was chicken. That was dry & I ate only a small amount. My wife didn't want to complain but she ended up not eating any beef but wrapped the beef in her napkins to discard (which the waiter saw & commented on). The roast only came with parsnips & a variety of carrots which were rock hard. No green veg which is shown on the advertising pictures. We ended up spending over £200 for a very badly cooked roast. We never complained at the time & our waiter offered to deduct the service charge. Which we declined as we told him that it wasn't his fault the food was so terrible. I look forward to your reply Mark

I highly recommended this restaurant in May this year but have to say I felt the food had declined since then. We dined last night but we're not particularly impressed. No chicken available, and no salad on the menu. So I ordered a calzone pizza, which felt luke warm on arrival at the table. Unfortunately it was positively cold when I reached the middle. I asked them to heat it up and let me have it back, which they did. Overall, I felt it was flavourless and would not recommend this dish. Please be aware they add a 12.5% service charge and a 50p charity donation to your bill, which was not mentioned to us, but we did notice it. By law you do not have to pay this, you can refuse. We did pay it, but I feel that this should be mentioned to customers when the bill is presented. Their statement....We source, celebrate and serve local foods. Similarly, our drinks are also sourced as locally as possible, including local and regional beers and ciders; Devon and English wines; UK spirits including local gins, rum and vodka. Our coffee comes from a small independent roaster in Cornwall.......after asking the server for an English sparkling wine, be cause reading the menu it was all French and one Argentinian, I was told Mr. Caines was about to offer his own wine, but...as my Husband reminded her, it's not on the menu yet so where's the English sparkling alternatives? I cannot deny the quality of most of the food although I am a very fussy eater I had the lamb (plain) with fries and it was beautiful. The veg and salad served with was diabolical. Half a silverskin onion, one mushroom and a handful of unprepared rocket. With the burger and fries there was no veg at all. We ordered a side of coleslaw (additional charge) which was ok but again hardly 2 portions. The service was slow and poorly coordinated. Wait times of 45mins for dessert for example. Desserts are my reason for eating out and the dessert here was mediocre to be honest I went with steamed pudding with fruit compote and raspberry sorbet and it was ok. Could have done the same in the microwave though. I felt conned when the waiter offered water for the table we asked for tap water and were charged £2 but not told about the charge. Watch out for the huge 12.5% service charge added to every bill and the hardly mentioned charity donation. You don't have to pay either by law so feel free to refuse when you are paying £20-30 per main. The view is lovely, if you get a table in the glass part but it is cramped and as the sunset most of the diners suffered a while of being blinded by the sun 😅. You'd get the same view eating fish n chips on the wall but at least there weren't any seagulls. The atmosphere was ok too, there was a mixture of people of ages, stages and backgrounds and just the humdrum of conversation. The food looked pretty, insta worthy so to speak but it was small portions as often as in posh restaurants. Think we were pretty lucky, have known many people have longer waits and found more things not available from the menu. Is it worth the money?! Not in my opinion. Lots of nicer places to eat in Exmouth for a fraction of the cost... It has lost points mostly for value for money and almost intolerable wait times for the money... when I think about the amazing food you can get on the Heavitree for a lot less money I know I won't be going here ever again. But that is just my opinion.

We regularly holiday in Exmouth and it more than often coincides with our wedding anniversary so we usually sort out a nice place to eat . This year we thought we'd try Mickey's. Location is great . We got a window seat with great views of the beach and beyond . Service was good . Nice staff Service I thought was a tad slow but we were pretty relaxed about it . The food choice ok . It was a bit pricey and Iust admit we were expecting a bit more from the food for the price . I'm not sure we'd return for a meal but I would suggest that you try it out yourself and make your decision.

Food was fine. The view is very nice. Not a very diverse food menu but we managed to find something with the staff help. It was good.

One person serving behind the bar and waited 20 minutes to be served. Drinks were fine, if a little pricey, but there wasn't much of an atmosphere in the late afternoon. We didn't eat here so cannot comment on the food, but there wasn't anyone to ask if tables were available...

I go mainly for the gelato, which I think is the best ever. I recommend the vanilla.

I ordered a steak medium rare which in this country is hard to find but it was done perfectly well! The servers were very polite and service was very fast!

THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE DOWNSTAIRS BAR ONLY! I have visited Mickey’s many times to the upstairs restaurant which is amazing and very much 5 star, however on June 25 we visited the beach bar area downstairs. We sat outside and tried to use the QR code to order on the table which didn’t work so I had to que (for at least 10 minutes) to find out if they could cater for gluten free which they said they could so I ordered 2 Caesar salads, one to be gluten free and no anchovies (yuk) I paid £58 for this plus a couple of soft drinks and sat back down and waited for our food. When it came out I was a little shocked, all that was on the plate was lettuce, chicken and Caesar dressing…. So by saying that they could do the salad gluten free just ment, we will take everything that contain gluten off and replace it with nothing, so I paid for a bed of lettuce and chicken! Also I only ask for one to be gluten free but both were the same, it was quite embarrassing that anywhere would serve this for people, there was no offer to add any extra salad to make it more of a meal and my husbands chicken had been so over cooked it was tough and chewy! As I own a business myself I didn’t want to give a negative review so I contacted Mickey’s direct via email and got an email back a few days later saying a team from management would be in touch, I waited 2 weeks and heard nothing so I emailed again and was told the same thing, I then received a phone call during working hours a couple of times and when I return the calls no one was available. Again I emailed to say taking calls on the day was difficult and actually correspondence via email was easier and adequate, I’m still waiting for a response. Rubbish customer care, this wasn’t a big issue and I just wanted to discuss my experience.

Very disappointed with the service. I was wearing a new outfit and the young waiter carried in a plate with bass swimming in oil and melted butter and he carelessly spilled the oil mixture down my arm onto my dress and on to my new suede clutch bag. I was offered to have it dry cleaned but most cleaners said they could not dry clean my bag. It was very noisy there, staff were noisy and china and /or glass was smashed on the restaurant floor. One of our party's dessert was forgotten and everyone had finished before we could remind a staff member that he was still awaiting his dessert. The food was good but this experience upset all our party and made us feel we did not want to return there in the future.

Mickey's Beach Bar & Restaurant offers a delightful experience with its great service and inviting atmosphere. From the moment I stepped in, the staff greeted me warmly and the cozy beachside setting added to the overall charm, making it a perfect place to relax and enjoy the view the only problem I have with this place is that some of the prices the food are a bit too pricey and the menu on Google maps said that the pizza was £9 but it was £16 but honestly, I didn't care about the price too much but if it wasn't for it I would give this 5 stars 🙂

Brought the family here whilst on holiday, and very glad we did. Staff were all very friendly and welcoming, and the food was the best we'd had in ages. We sat in the window on the 1st floor and whiled away two very enjoyable hours. Highly recommended!

We happened upon the place by chance as we are not locals. I wanted to have an outstanding holiday standout meal and I definitely got it here! The views, the service and and the flavours were all incredible. Honestly the mussels were so huge, fresh and full of flavour, some of the best I’ve had by far! Every dish was the tastiest version you can imagine, the chef smashed it. Lovely, friendly staff too! I had to leave 5 stars right away.

Dog friendly bar area Lovely servers, special mention for Mudy the manager - great guy. Fish curry spectacular Negatives are few. Adjacent parking is expensive £9 for 2h10m via Ringo app. Ouch. Not a cheap place, some wines overpriced 12.5% gratuity automatically added to bill Would I go again? Probably not, I think I’d rather go to RockFish twice for this price.
