Michael's Mediterranean Restaurant in Cotswold

Food was absolutely delicious. Generous portions. Service was friendly. First time there. Really enjoyed our meal. Would’ve given 5 star rating had it not been for the one solitary toilet outside in the passageway which was clearly used mostly by men as the seat was up and pee on the floor. I would come back but not use the facilities. More attention is needed for cleanliness for both sexes to use.

We ate in the garden area which was quiet, clean and cosy even in the absence of sun. Lovely fresh food tasted great in the atmosphere of silence away from town noise and love songs.

From booking Michael’s to the end of the evening it has been an absolute pleasure and such fun! I highly recommend this place .. We celebrated our good friends 60 th birthday here on a Friday night.. Chris greeted us when we walked in and had prepared us a special table all ready with balloons serviettes etc ….the food was delicious and Chris Ben and Amelia looked after us so well .. Thank you for making such a memorable evening for us all ….we will return

Our dinner here was a 10/10. The yummiest food, sweetest restaurant and excellent service from Reuben and Ben. I would 100% recommend visiting this restaurant.

There’s only a few tables at the front of this restaurant, others are in the conservatory at the rear, which is where we were seated. They had heaters everywhere and supplied blankets to ensure guests were warm, but the heat became overpowering after about an hour. The food was well cooked and plentiful, the service was good, but I felt the cost of main courses and drinks was over priced. They also add a mandatory 12.5% service charge but I guess this is normal due to the many foreign tourists in the region.

Amazing place! Me and my wife go often and they always deliver. Excellent and high quality food and service. Do not miss it!

A lovely small restaurant serving hearty Mediterranean food. We went here for Valentine's and even though it was very busy, the quality of food was high and the service was excellent. We would definitely return to try other things off the menu if we find ourselves in Chipping Camden again in the future.

I dont usually leave reviews however the food was exquisite, with high-quality ingredients and creative flavor combinations. Our waiter Chris was incredibly friendly and attentive, making us feel very welcome. The conservatory setting was absolutely charming, creating a truly delightful ambiance. We will definitely be back and would recommend if you are in the area.

Very impressed, first time we’ve been. Chris (front of house) is excellent - made us feel at home & was friendly & helpful without being overly attentive. Perfect! Food also very good, good portions too so we had to ask for some food to be boxed up for take-away. Really lovely atmosphere in the rear conservatory. We live in Nottingham an hour & a half away but we will return at some point, excellent!

Comfortably one of the best restaurants we have visited! Exceptional service, remembering my booking call, offering to take a picture for us, food served promptly & politely. The decor and outdoor terrace is beautiful and well heated with blankets for extra comfort. The food was phenomenal!! Better than family restaurants in Crete that we have enjoyed. I have eaten all of these ingredients before, and together, but they have never tasted this good. Our new favourite place & I can’t wait to return. Thank you all for a wonderful evening

Great good, even better service

Nice restaurant but the dishes were a bit hit and miss. Had to send back the Veg Moussaka - and I see from earlier reviews it has previous form! - for being entirely without flavour, but the mussels were very nice...

Amazing food and and service from Chris and Esme. Chris made us a cocktail off the menu especially! Made us feel so welcome and the food was incredible.

My partner and I ate at Michael's this evening and loved it. Quaint little place, perfect for escaping the cold and the rain, Chris was a fantastic waiter who made us both smile and the food was incredible. We paid our compliments to the chef and I'd highly recommend the baby squid starter and moussaka main. Oh, and they don't skimp on the portion sizes!

The best chicken shish ever and salad always lovely and fresh

Passing through Chipping Campden yesterday & randomly chose this cosy little restaurant for lunch, & it didn’t disappoint. Service was friendly & prompt. Lunch was excellent. We had two starters from the main lunch menu, & one of the Specials as main course too, all delicious & plentiful. Just wish we’d had room for dessert! They also allow well behaved dogs, always a bonus in my eyes. Totally recommended!

Always hot, always perfect food..and respectful delivery men.

This was a reasonable experience & we would try it again. Starters were good, garlic prawns & halloumi with pitta. We enjoyed those. Mains: I enjoyed mousaka & greek salad. However my husband didnt enjoy the beef stifado & couldn't finish it. He said it tasted very bitter. Plus the fact it was just beef & rice so nothing else to break up the tastes. He didn't expect it to taste like that. It's a fun little Bistro. They do offer outside seating but I prefer inside.

What a wonderful little restaurant. Authentic, delicious and fresh food, very friendly staff and a warm ambiance. The brunch was so delicious and made specially as requested GF and DF so thank you, very tasty. The restaurant then transforms into a lovely cosy evening night spot, love the fresh fish! It’s a very special little gem of a place in the beautiful town of Chipping Campden. 🙌🏻🥰

I’m GF and DF but the chef always goes to great lengths to make my food delicious. The waiting staff are so friendly and polite too. A real credit to the little town of Chipping Campden. Enjoyed a great meal there. The food is excellent and portions are huge. Service was great and very nice atmosphere. The outdoor seating wasn’t very comfortable but the heaters and wood fire helped.

Food really nothing special. Very ordinary starter, main courses were very dry, baklava dessert was awful. Wouldn't eat here again in a hurry.

A very good quality, tasty array of Mediterranean dishes. Our family had a lovely outing and the service was very attentive. It was nice to have a mix of wholesome and healthy Mediterranean dishes, like stews and cassoulets, alongside the usual very rich or heavier show stoppers.

Had the pleasure of dining here last night. Both myself and my wife had the stefado and it was excellent. A warm welcome and friendly staff in a most delightful, cosy setting. Would highly recommend this restaurant and we'll be back when in town again. Thank you !!!!

Wedding anniversary celebration. Liked the intimate, busy atmosphere. Warm reception, and quickly shown menus. Had sharing Greek starter; absolutely delicious. Had a main from the very good “Specials Board”; cod cheeks in tomato sauce and herb rice. Very good indeed. My wife had the squewered chicken with salad and chips. Drinks very reasonably priced. No room for a pudding. Excellent.

Top class restaurant ! The food was absolutely gorgeous - so many tastes in each dish ! Definitely be back when we are visiting again !

The vegetarian food don’t have many options so ordered mousakka for dinner which was too cheesy and oily for me personally. Beetroot salad was just fine. May be I chose the wrong dish but overall the staff was pleasant.

I probably picked wrong on the food. Was not over excited about the selection and kind of guessed. Cannot say I enjoyed the food but the pricing was reasonable. Maybe a bit more help when selecting from the menu might be useful.

Always friendly always hot food

Nice seafood plate, warm welcome. Price is acceptable for UK standard. Small lovely restaurant, you can sit in the room, or opened area in the back. I recomended white wine mussel, Garlic prawn, grilled seabeam.

Fantastic tapas lunch, which was delicious. The restaurant is very charming and the staff were friendly and very helpful. We would definitely return if we are in the area and would wholeheartedly recommend.

Had a great breakfast of avocado toast and eggs Benedict. Cozy little shop with good coffee, friendly service and very good food.

Despite being local this was my first visit fit many years. I can with a friend to celebrate her birthday. We sat in the delightful small ‘secret garden’ at the side. Cannot fault the food which was delicious. I had the octopus Galicia (having had this many times in Spain). It was superb probably the best I have ever had. The rest of the meal was great too. The service was attentive and smooth and Reuben was helpful and ready to chat about food and wine as the evening became less busy. We had a wonderful time thank you .

It was busy for. Tuesday night which can perhaps explain why the service was so terribly slow. We sat in the covered area in the back and saw lots of teenagers rushing back and forth with plates, but our table rarely got a visit. The food when it arrived was very average to poor. The Mediterranean prawns were swimming in butter, but they had presumably been frozen or overcooked or both because they were so tough. Such a shame - we can hear a few years ago and had a great meal. We won’t return for a third helping.

This restaurant trades on the good name and reputation of the previous owner who ran a proper business. It now seems to be run by some youngsters who were rude, unhelpful and arrogant. £9 for a basket of bread to mop up the sauce with our mussels which was needed because they only gave us one piece to start with. Food was very average for the price. Avoid at all costs.

We came here as a party of 13, so we were in touch quite a bit beforehand sorting out our booking. Super helpful and quick replies on email. We all had excellent meals, highlights were suckling pig and moussaka. We sat outside in the covered terrace which was great for our large group. We were served by Esme all evening who was great, she was very attentive and looked after us all very well - thank you!

What a lovely place...Booked for our 25th wedding anniversary (quite late...which is because I was in charge of booking somewhere), and Kala accommodated us at short notice. We chose to sit on the covered terrace, given the weather was so nice. First impressions when you arrive is you feel like you are in another country, gives off great Mediterranean taverna vibes. We were greeted and shown to our seat by a lovely chap called Reuben, who looked after us all night, I have to say, he was really pleasant, very attentive, and did a great job. So, on to the food, the menu is really good and they have specials also, we opted for Moules Mariniere & Halloumi Pitta for starters, which we didn't have to wait too long for...and they were amazing. I have to say that the Moules were THE BEST I have ever tasted, I could have eaten about 10 portions (which by the way, for starters, are a decent size). Mains, we had the Filetto Marathona (Fillet Steak !), and Rib-Eye in Spanish Blue Cheese from the specials. Both came with a generous portion of delicious fries and salad and amazingly tasty char grilled peppers, and again the mains didn't disappoint. Both cooked perfectly, amazingly tasty, quite simply good quality, fresh, tasty food. We ended the meal with a couple of cocktails, which topped the evening off, but I have to say from the minute we arrived, through the whole evening, to when we left, we never felt rushed, drinks were served quickly, food arrived at the perfect times, and the setting is wonderful. I cannot give anything less than a top rating, as this is how you would want to be looked after at a very well run and quality restaurant. Will definitely be back, and if you are ever in the North Cotswolds area, then try and pay them a visit as it is well worth it !!

Lovely food great outside terrace and very friendly staff

We had a lovely meal, the food was excellent and the staff were lovely. The menu wasn't as extensive as on line but maybe that was because it was lunch time.

After reading all the amazing reviews, I was really looking forward to the meal at Michael’s, however I was left feeling disappointed. The servers were very polite and warm, so that was a good start. For starters we ordered the Greek salad and meatballs. The service was very very slow. The meatballs were average. We returned the Greek salad as it was 90% tomatoes and didn’t taste very nice. We got the beetroot salad instead which was delicious, 10/10 for that. They charged us for the Greek salad, saying there was nothing wrong with it but it was just due to our preference that we didn’t like it. That’s just poor customer service. I didn’t think it was great and wouldn’t be going back there again.

We had a lovely warm welcome when entering the restaurant and were taken to our table. The outside terrace area although very small had a nice atmosphere with background music. Our waiter Rubin was an asset to the restaurant, extremely professional, attentive and lovely to speak to, he made our night 🤗 We had tiger prawns to start really nice and the then steaks. Food was very nice. Would highly recommend. 🥰

We came on a bad day. Lady in charge on the phone for ages. 3 couples waiting, one outside. Lots of confusion in tiny kitchen, run by 2 very young staff I was ill’ I don’t recommend it. It’s got lots of good reviews which do not represent what we experienced.

Not knowing the area, we would never have found here without walking round Chipping Campden and looking at all the restaurant menu options. Michaels was recommended to us by a friend of a relation and we were so pleased that it was. In fact we ate here twice during our stay. This restaurant is small and serves Mediterranean food with a great choice of dishes. 1st time we ate inside where the ambience was of a small Greek/Italian/French style of bistro. The 2nd time we were sat outside. The outside seating area is fully covered but felt a little cramped for our taste. Food quality is high, portion sizes are good but service is a tad, how can I say it ….. ‘mediterranean”. Would we go back - Yes but will ask for an inside table.

Managed to get a table here on the day in the outside space. It was a bit drizzly, so they had the roof and heaters on, very cosy. Customer service was excellent and the food was very good! Would definitely recommend.

A birthday treat for me and I love a great steak so Michael’s is a safe but great choice as we’ve been on quite a few occasions over the last few years and it never disappoints. We were served by a young girl with glasses (maybe Tara) who was relatively new but very attentive and very helpful (well done whoever employed her) and the whole evening was lovely. My wife also had the steak and I had extra blue cheese sauce and Parmesan on the fries. Just superb. Lovely atmosphere, great food again. Thank you Michaels.

Amazing food with lots of options for all awkward dietary requirements. The staff were extremely accommodating and patient. Nice small spot so the atmosphere is very relaxed and it’s not too loud.

This was one of the best meals we’ve had on our trip to England!! Everything tasted so fresh and good quality and was so delicious. We sat outside in their “secret garden” area and it was perfect! Even though it was a bit chilly out & they had blankets ready to go at every seat & heaters as well. The servers were all so kind and helpful. Everything was perfect! I would highly recommend this restaurant.

It’s a pretty little restaurant with a friendly team of servers, but I found the moussaka very bland, inedibly so. Having raised this, I was informed that the chef’s response was ‘this is how we make it’ and I was charged the full £18 for a dish I’d barely touched. At the very least, a conversation about a discount should have been an option. It was badly handled.

This is a lovely little restaurant situated in the centre of Chipping Campden. You definitely have to book because it is quite small inside. The service was great, as was the food. There were too many options to choose from! There were also specials on the board. We took our dog in with us too, I had checked beforehand that he was allowed in. Worth a visit!

We booked a table on Monday. The staff were helpful and warned us that the portions were sizeable as we don't like food waste. We shared the starter of the jambon croquettes and we both had the chicken and chorizo cassoulet. The cassoulet was amazing with two chicken breast fillets and tons of chorizo. It was certainly a challenge to finish. We were both full and although the desserts looked delicious and tempting, we couldn't fit another thing. The next day, we couldn't see any other restaurant that we fancied so we went back to Michael's. Fore warned, we just had four starters: the Octopus , beetroot salad, jambon croquettes and the Moules marinière. We weren't disappointed with our choices. The Octopus was perfectly cooked and not chewy, the salad was light and tasty and the mussels were very generous. I cannot recommend Michael's enough. Delicious food, friendly staff and a great choice of Mediterranean food. Booking is recommended as they get full very quickly. Dogs are welcome

Dined as a family, We Booked and arrived for the earlier sitting, were shown to a table immediately and promptly served drinks then food. We ordered the Galician Octopus and Croquettes for starters, then went to the Kleftiko, Moussaka, Burger and Fish. After a delicious meal we shared a few desserts. Amazing food and atmosphere, great staff as well.

We regularly meet friends and this was, by far, our favourite place to meet. We had delicious meals and loved the halloumi pittas and salad. The Greek sausages were amazing. The choice of wine and cocktails was impressive. The atmosphere was friendly and relaxed and we did not feel at all rushed. We took home some delicious cakes. We will definitely be returning!

will defo be back some friends and i went for a meal and were thoroughly impressed, as a starter we had garlic prawns off the specials board and the meatballs, i have never had such fresh prawns in england before. as mains we had a sirloin steak cooked to perfection and i cannot recommend the peppercorn sauce enough, the pork ribs fell off the bones, the burger was thick and juicy. for dessert we had churros and the freshly made rich dipping chocolate was delicious. the staff were attentive, they wiped away mess from the prawns off the table, cleared empty bottles. a memorable evening for all and will be back in the future!

In all my years of visiting a eatery both abroad and the UK have i never been told to wait outside in the pouring rain while the staff prepare the table. After we came back for our sitting it was evident the establishment is too small to cater for parties of more than 9 comfortably along with other diners coming in I and others felt hemmed in. There was something badly wrong with the customer service in that when we finished each course at least 15 minutes elapsed before the plates were removed and that only happened when we made the request. The food was mediocre at best and one of the diners moussaka bore no resemblence to any that i have seen or eaten. Last but not least i never got my coffee.
