Mez Turkish Restaurant & Takeaway in Castle Point

Just came with family and friends and absolutely loved the service here! Amazing friendly restaurant with great tasty food. Thank you very much for treating the group so well....the portions were massive and so worth the money. Giving lollies to the kids was just a perfect touch!

We usually order takeaway to our house, but today decided to eat in for the first time. The restaurant was really clean and the heating made it very warm and cosy. The food never disappoints from Mez so the experience was of course on point.

What a find.1st class service and food was fantastic and great value. Defo recommend to anyone who likes turkish cuisine tbe mixed family mez is great

First time ordering, food was delicious arrived hot and so fresh and so much for your money. Would highly recommend

Attentive service, delicious food, great value for money. Although they had about 3/4 vegetarian meals, there were other options to add to enhance the menu . I usually find baklava to be too syrupy. However, the baklava served here has the right balance, and the restaurant has a homely, comfy feel to it. Would definitely visit again!

Just had a takeaway waited for an hour for 2 halep kebabs food was cold 1 bread and 1 salad between 2 of us meat was hard disgusting

5 of my family and myself had a birthday meal for my wife A very polite and helpful waitress came and took our drink orders and returned quickly with refreshments. We all ordered our meals and extras. Meals included chicken, lamb , and shell fish . The meals were delicious, all cooked just right ! I think we all left some food not because of bad food but the amount of food we had ! We will definitely use Mez again and would recommend. Give it a try , doubt you'll be disappointed, I know we weren't. Thanks .

Was going to go in and be a customer but only saw one of the staff be abused by what I assume is their boss is not right behaviour you should never be allowed to hit your staff have contacted police and they are aware of the situation

One waiter, 2 men behind the counters telling the waiter what to do... Noisy as no drapes... Poor cutlery, food was good, but had to wait a good time.. needs work, and an experienced waiter to run the orders properly

My wife and I have been going to the Mez since it first opened I think the owner's name was Alex, and the food and service were excellent, but the last two times I have been with friends, it's been absolutely RUBBISH. The new owner, Abdul hasn't any idea how to run a restaurant, waited for ages to order a drink, and they didn't have a small beer, so had to share with a friend because I was driving. I ordered Moussaka, and my friends ordered chicken & lamb skewers, the chicken was OK, but the lamb was very tough. The Moussaka was supposed to be meat, but mostly carrot and aubergines the cheese on the top was uneatable. Without a doubt, it was the worst meal we had ever had in The Mez Canvey Island. We WILL NEVER BE GOING THERE AGAIN. I would advise, since the new owner took over it is not worth a visit. Jim Cartwright

Food is very good and under rated. Portion sizes and very good and price is very on point. had many takeaways and visited a good few times. EFES on draft too which is great

I have ordered in the past and it was fine but i ordered again yesterday and it was awful. It looked like someones left overs and it tasted disgusting so i threw it in the bin and now it has left me with a stomach ache after just a few mouth fulls. Never again 🤢

Mother's Day 2023. 10 of us popped into here simply by spontaneous choice. We hadn't booked anywhere and were pleasantly surprised by the welcome on such a busy day. Our waiter was Abdul, and he was wonderful. Plenty of cocktails to choose from, and the food was exquisite. I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone who wants delicious tasty unique food. £200 for 10 people, you can't complain, it was all delicious.

The staff at this restaurant were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home. They even offered us Turkish tea while we waited! The food was amazing; we ordered a MEZ platter for three, but there was enough to feed even more people. Everything was incredibly fresh and tasty - we highly recommend it!

Im done. It used to be good, it used to be worth the extra money but not now. Ordered on a Tuesday night and waited an hour and a half. Called to query and got a 'it's coming!' response. Food OK but no better than cheaper, more prompt options.

Stayed one night on Canvey Island and we weren’t sure where to eat on seeing Mez we decided to give it a try. The food was all very tasty, portion size very generous and staff friendly. They also gave us complimentary bread and two dips which was a great touch and very tasty. Smallish restaurant but it had a nice ambience and definitely worth trying if you are in the area.

We stayed for one night on Canvey Island and weren't sure where to eat. We came across Mez while looking in other restaurant and thought this looked nice. The food was delicious and the portions were very large you are also given the most delicious complimentary bread and dips. We had a moussaka and lamb and chicken kebabs and everything was well cooked and very tasty. Nice ambience and friendly staff.

Very friendly and welcoming staff. Made us feel very welcome and even msde us Turkish tea while we waited. The food was equally as good. We ordered a MEZ platter for two but there was enough food for 4 people. Very tasty and fresh. Highly recommend.

The owner very arrogant when you asked specific food. Not very wellcoming especially when you ask if the Meat is halal he became very offensive and very rude came across as racist. I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

Our 1st time here and probably the last. The food was OK at best, once we got it, (we was eating in). Waited over a hour for our main. Yet there was a constant flow of deliveries going out, which must take priority over eating in. 1 waitress serving the restaurant, who we felt sorry for. There was no, "is everything ok" or goodbye when we left, Was giving the bill,and not even asked if we would like a dessert.. Customer service was terrible and it wasn't the waitresses fault. VERY unlike any other Turkish restaurant's we have eaten in. Could see We wasn't the only ones disappointed in there.

For the first time and the last time. No Aryan to order after when I ordered different oh sorry run out. 3 times waitresses asked if we ordered and waiting for our food more than I an hour and 20 minutes. Other 3 tables after us had already their food and we re still waiting for ours. Strongly not recommend it. It's a real joke.

Very good food but can also be very slow. I think they prioritise takeaways over people who are actually in the restaurant. And they need a new extractor. Last time I was in there 3 people I was with said their eyes were burning from the smoke. Also, give us some options with the burgers. Just the burger meat and cheese with nothing else makes for a boring burger

Very, very good food. Always clean inside and the staff are polite and friendly. I cannot recommend this place enough, I haven't tasted cooking like it! Honestly worth investing into this great local restaurant. The absolutely shocking 1 star reviews left on here would be immediately identifiable as trolls to anyone who has eaten here. Ridiciulous attempt to draw custom away from an amazing restaurant.

I made an order for a take away, my order arrive 30 min later but unfortunately they forgot My wrap, so I call them about the missing wrap and the lady on phone tell me my order will be with me in 20 mins. 40 mins later still no sign of the delivery the guy, so I call the restaurant again !!! and she gave me the worst excuse ever. 30 mins later the wrap arrive. This is the last time will order from this restaurant. Any other place would have refund me. The wrap was not worth the wait. Below it my first review of this restaurant, I just realise they created 2 account... , I like to give a chance to local shop but unfortunately this was the last time i ordered from here : Food is good, the inside of the restaurant is ok, Very friendly staff . The first time I went with my partner to the restaurant the waiter give us the wrong order, the food was good and we didn't want to wait any longer so we kept the wrong order. This little incident didn't stop us to go back as we really enjoy the food. I could have give the restaurant a better rating, but unfortunately I realize the bread they were giving me with my take away was not fresh. By not fresh i mean when you seat in the restaurant they give you soft warm bread with your meal, but when you take away the bread is hard like a rock, this happen few time but I never mention anything because at the end I was not eating the bread when I order my take away. One day I went for another take away and big surprise they gave me fresh bread.... So this is why the bad rating and I haven't been back since. I just don't like this type of practice.

Gordon Ramsey would go berserk!! We ordered the Mousakka and it had been frozen which meant that however they had then reheated it left a pool of water in the dish. My cousin had the lamb shish which was really chewy. My auntie had the lamb which looked awful. It was boiled with the skin left on, very weird. Weve been to many turkish restaurants including in Turkey and this was such a disappointment. Also our table was never cleared before they brought out the mains, the girl just tried to move the plates over until we pointed this out to her. When we queried the temperature of the mousakka it was done with disdain and whispers. Most of the family had a bad stomach after. Point blank never again!

Just had another fantastic meal. Great food. Exceptional service from everyone.

I am a regular customer of Mez. I placed an order at 6PM from foodhub as recommended by them last week. By 8pm I contacted foodhub as I was unable to get through to the restaurant. At 8.20pm I received a text saying your order has been cancelled!! What a disgraceful way to treat your customers!!!

Absolutely brilliant place to eat. Wheelchair friendly. The owner Alex couldn’t do enough to help and introduced us to the joy of Turkish tea (we love it :) Sadly, self isolation means a long delay before we can return. I hope they survive, they truly deserve to.

Very lovely restaurant, music is relaxing, staff are really helpful, speak clear english, food tastes fresh and quickly prepared, do also like the fact they don't have to write down what you order, they remember it which I think is very efficient. Only thing I've got to dig at it is that the menu is very limited, also there isn't much of a description as to what you get with your meal

worst turkish I have EVER had.food plane in taste.chicken was coated in salt which tells me cheap chicken .king prawns was the size of a 5 pence piece. bread over cooked burnt in places only good experience with mez was walking out the restaurant.

Great food, very succulent and full of flavour, the staff are very attentive go put of their way to accommodate customers, this is by far the best authentic Turkish restaurant for miles around, even when there was a power cut for two minutes the staff as a kind gesture gave us a free drink and desert even though this was an area power cut, will definitely come here again, highly recommended.

I ordered a takeaway and the Food was nice, but it was a shame the drinks were not priced on the menu and now I can see why.... £1.90 for a can of dr pepper... a clear rip off... refunded when challeged but they stated it was because they were a restaurant. ??? In response to your reply... as I said, I ordered from your takeaway menu of which does not show or advertise drink prices... £1.90 for a can of dr pepper in any environment is expensive... maybe you should consider pricing the cans for your takeaway service or at least show the price on the takeaway menu.. thanks.

Very lovely food and lively people been there a few times now and we enjoyed it .

I had the 2 kebabs and rice combo (adana kebab and lamb shish) and husband had the Lamb mousaka, it was amazing, we love great food and the lamb shish is the best I have ever had, we eat all over the world and that lamb is the most tender, succulent lamb I have ever had, a great chef has done it justice. Wonderful.

Great food value for money will keep going back

Have visited twice now and will definitely be coming back soon! The food is spectacular the real taste of Turkey. Not to forget the great staff and lovely owner, always very welcoming and do their up most to make sure you enjoy your experience at Mez. Overall a great place and is certainly in my top 5 favourite restaurants.
