Great hotel friendly staff, great service and excellent food

An exceptionally well run hotel. Staff work hard to provide a welcoming and efficient environment. The dinner bed and breakfast winter deal is excellent value for money with a delicious and varied choice on the menu.

Friendly staff, good food but starting to feel very tied now.

We've stayed here as a couple and with a young family dozens of times. The hotel is great. No frills, lovely service, and great food, as well being great value and perfect location. The people moaning about 'tired' or 'dated' need to get real. This is mid Wales. Don't expect Soho or Manhattan. They've recently updated some of the more "the shining" decor/wallpaper anyway. There is one big problem though, a minority of the other guests: entitled boomers, so rude, obnoxious, impatient, obstructive and plain offensive (to little children as well as the hard working foreign staff). Impossible for me to bite my lip with some of the behaviour I experienced and observed yet again. Maybe they could offer etiquette and behaviour lessons to this generation. Some are absolutely lovely of course but for some reason the worst of them seem to occupy this place.

Only popped in for dinner at the brasserie. Had a booking but food took 75 minutes to arrive. Had only ordered a main course. One member of staff stated that kitchen very busy but even so, far too slow. Another waiter had really bad body odour, you hate to be unkind but he really smelled. Food itself was not too bad - fish n chips and fish cakes. But even that shows the poor organisation here - pretty easy, quick dishes to cook. Probably wouldn’t go back.

Although the room was clean, the beds in an accessible room were on wheels and dangerous if you have to lift someone from a wheel chair on to it. The food was disgraceful, having stayed here six times in the past, the food was always excellent. We were both shocked and surprised by the low, tasteless, standard served to us both evenings. The staff could not be bothered to acknowledge you and not once was either of us asked if everything was okay with our meals. The breakfast was akin to many manufacturing canteens of which many serve far better food. We were very disappointed with the severe down hill turn this lovely hotel has taken. Just to finish off we were not even asked if we enjoyed our stay by the receptionist when we paid our extortionate bill. We will not be returning.

This is a mixed review, One the plus side, Has electric charging station and free WIFI so i can download the app and be able to pay for the charging station and staff where very helpfull and cheerie. Downside, The food..... Ordered mac and cheese and a half diet lemonade.... £15.50! Though fine I will pay it.... It came and im sure it was out a packet or made 2 days earlier, It was 100% microwaved and not put under the grill as it was boiling hot, way too hot for oven, and cheese on top was split which if you put it in an oven/grill it will have some colour to the cheese but no... £13 for microwaved pasta and £2 for a half of lemonade, Will put the car on charge and get food on the roundabout opposit where the college was.

What once would have been a grand Victorian hotel is in need of a good makeover to bring it back to it's original splendour. Hotel is clean with lift access to the upper floors. Spa and rooms are ok, but again could benefit from an update. Buffet breakfast was good, but a limited evening meal menu. Paid an uplift for the lamb chops which I would say were excellent.

Very good. Nicely decorated, good food, spacious & comfortable lounge. Great location. We had a very pleasant above standard room. We enjoyed it a lot.

I didn't realise how big the hotel was, but never felt it was noisy. Nice choice of food, always cooked brilliantly and friendly staff all around. The Spa was very relaxing and felt very clean. Good sized and well equipped room, with a nice shower.

Got terminated from my job in the board room here but it is a nice room.

I loved our Sunday night stay here. The building is beautiful, very historic yet well maintained. The spa is new, clean and peaceful. Our room was good, quiet and comfortable with a big bed. We very much enjoyed both dinner and breakfast. All the staff were great, very friendly and helpful. Parking is easy, as there is a huge car park round the back. The hotel is right in the centre of town with a pleasant park and high street nearby. We hope to be back!

March 2024, the hotel was clean and seemed efficient. We went a couple of months ago and it was dark, dusty, and felt tired. New leadership? Or perhsps we had just been there in the post-Christmas dip, and now it's had a freshen up and boost for the new season. Anyway, look forward to voing there again for a bite and a coffee.

Had a lovely stay, food excellent and the staff very friendly. The spa is a really nice add on. I would stay here again, it's a central location ideal for exploring the area. We had our dog with us so really great that he could stay too. He loved it. Would recommend

We just had dinner there, and it was not very nice. The food was very poor, not appetising at all. Everyone in the group had similar views. Every just seemed dated. A little bit Fawlty Towers ish...

Had a great Sunday lunch, cooked to perfection. Staff were really pleasant. Great all round experience
