Metro Bar in Edinburgh, City of

Booked in the restaurant for our 20th Wedding Anniversary. We weren’t staying at the hotel but did add that we were celebrating upon booking. We arrived early expecting to have a drink at the bar but the table was ready for us. We received a complimentary glass of champagne each on arrival. The staff were fantastic and couldn’t have done more. They even sorted us out with a special dessert to help celebrate the occasion. The food was to a high standard and the portion size was perfect. Altogether a fantastic meal and exemplary service.

We booked the bar area for New Year’s Eve. So wish we hadn’t! When we booked we were advised by booking platform that there was only space in the bar. When we arrived, bar was full and we ended up in the restaurant. For New Years Eve and for a place in Grassmarket, this place had zero atmosphere! When seated, we had to wait 20 mins before anyone came to ask if we wanted drinks. We then gave our drinks order and had to ask for food menu. No one had previously come to give us a menu! Four of us were dining. The tap water was brought to table but we only had 3 water glasses ! Despite there being lots of tables, we were sat in a corner where the cutlery etc was kept. Meant waiting staff kept knocking us as they passed and meant our conversation was interrupted regularly by clattering cutlery. The food itself was bland. None of us finished our dishes. The sticky sauce with the prawns was literally stuck to the plate. Couldn’t dip prawn in it at all. During meal, not a single member of staff asked us how the meal was. And remember we were sat in an area where staff walked past us to get cutlery and tissues. When we finished meal. No one came to take plates away .i had to go to restaurant reception area to ask for it to be done. I also had to go and ask for the bill. And for the privilege of this non attentive service…. The bill arrived with a gratuity added to it! I asked that it be removed as we had had no service. The bill was adjusted but no apology and no one asked why we felt there had been no service. I go to Edinburgh regularly. This is the first poor service I have had. I will not be going to this place again.

We dined at the bar restaurant which was empty when we arrived & remained empty whilst we were there. The soup was good, the corn ribs were lacking. And arrived in a normal time. The main course (a chicken sandwich & fries ) arrived 35 minutes later - in an empty restaurant. As I did not share in the appetizers - I waited 45 minutes to eat my chicken sandwich. The manager in charge at the time was not apologetic in the least when I asked about my food & when it would arrive. Then to top it off, a 12.5 % service charge was added to our bill which I was also choked about. We asked it to be removed which they did. I have not had this poor of service in a very long time. I would NOT recommend this restaurant.

We chose off the Tony Singh menu. Both dishes, the curry of the day and the BBQ belly were very tasty. The restaurant is a bit of a modern day cavern with no real ambiance, it is however the design of the building at fault here. Service was patchy, never was asked if we wanted a drink other than water. A different dish was produced, but this was corrected by another waitress. All in all, we thought our meal was good and can recommend if you want a quick bite during the Fringe.

We were staying in the Apex City hotel in Grass market, which doesn't do dinner, so walked along here instead. Service from the young team was excellent and we were very well looked after, which made us feel valued as customers. It's not fine dining, but everything we had was well cooked and presented. I especially enjoyed the sea bream. Excellent bottle of S African Chenin Blanc to accompany for under £30. Sitting by the window gave us a view of everything going on in the busy Grassmarket, while enjoying a more relaxed atmosphere. We returned a second night during our stay and received the same service and attention.

Ok but menu very small not much to choose from. Food ok but Laska was not correct, not udon noodles but thai noodles more a sweet and sour soup with very little meat. Expensive for what it was.

The sea bream was good, but the laksa ramen was not laksa (no coconut) and the noodles were not ramen noodles, more like a hot and sour soup with rice Thai noodles. There was a lot of chicken breast . The hard surfaces meant that if it had been full we wouldn’t be able to hear each other speak. The service was kind of inexperienced but there was no service charge so we left 10 %.

Hogmanay - this place has a nice view of the castle. Sorry to say that the service was too efficient. Don't usually complain about that, but we asked for drinks. Before they arrived another waiter took the orders for starter/mains and wine. Within a minute, it seemed, the starter was on the table. At that stage we hadn't even seen the drinks. Eventually it calmed down and were served good and uncomplicated food. By the time coffee and dram was finished we had actually managed to stay 2h and could head off for the line to the consert in the gardens

It’s little bit expensive but the food is good and the service is good I recommend a beef burger and onion rings They also have vegetarian options

My experience is in two halves. Let's talk about the food. I can only comment on what we ordered. The Indian furr furr crackers was absolutely rubbish. The crackers were of substandard quality. The Bhel puri didn't have any puffed rice in it ( which by the way is one of the main ingredients of this preparation) The vuhra was nothing more than a lamb burger patty wrapped in a tortilla. The Asian salad and the Vietnamese chicken was ok. Now let's talk about the service. The waitress asked if we had been to Tony's before. When we said we haven't she faced me and said, "I'll explain how it works and then you can explain it to the rest in your group" Being a bit surprised I told her she could explain it to all of us together. Her response was, "well looking at her (and she's pointing towards my mother), I didn't think she understands English" This was an inexcusable assumption made by the waitress and frankly very insulting to my mother. The irony was everyone at that table can speak more than one language, English being one of them. Ideally we should have walked out but decided to give the food the benefit of the doubt. That turned out to be a big mistake. We did speak with the assistant manager before we left that place. He admitted that it was wrong to make such an assumption and promised to speak with that person about it, at he end of the day. I had high expectations of this place but was left hurt and confused at the prejudice we faced. I won't let this experience tarnish my first visit to Edinburgh. But I will definitely not return to Tony Singh's restaurants.

A retro dining room, with poor ambiance, promising good views, not! The coctails we ordered were pedestrian The food wsa not great. I had a burger. I asked for English mustard and was dirceted to a row of small baskets at the far end of teh dining room, to rummage among the jars for myself, without luck Lacklustre service, mediociore food and highish prices - not worth it

We stayed here for work reasons and out meal allowance was for the hotel restaurant (metro) I had the bruschetta for a starter and chicken and chorizo main Both dishes were very good quality however I asked for different potatoes and I didn’t get them. The ambience of the restaurant was very pleasant and the staff were attentive but I found myself having to repeat everything to them. Not my first choice to grab a bite to eat but the food quality cannot be faulted. Price point was a bit steep too, £9.50 for a cheese board seemed a lot.

Conveniently situated on Grass market, it looked quiet and it was pouring with rain so we gave it a go. We opted for a burger which sounded tempting with Scottish beef but unfortunately it was horrible, I could not eat it. So spent £14 on fries and a tomato I didn’t try them but deserts looked lovely

Cocktails were rather disappointing. Appetisers were good but the sirloin steak was tough and full of gristle. Very disappointing indeed. Good dessert and good service.

The fantastic view of Edinburgh Castle & the dramatic changing weather outside were the highlight of this visit. It really is in a beautiful location, which wins it the second star. Absolutely nothing positive to say about the service & food. We’d pre booked for Sunday lunch as there was an international rugby weekend on in Edinburgh & most places were heaving. We arrived not long after midday to a completely empty restaurant. Took them 5 minutes to find the booking & seat us. Not as if they were short of space or the booking was needed. It was dead. Several staff, no offer of drinks, 15 minutes later arrived for the food order, still no mention of drinks. 2 glasses of wine requested, which came just after the starter, some 25 minutes post arriving. Didn’t get a friendly smile or welcome from any of them. Food. Well, I’d looked forward to haggis in Scotland’s capitol in an experience restaurant for some time. It didn’t come out in any traditionally cooked way I’ve ever seen. Just 3 small blobs out of a deep fat fryer on some sauce blobs. That was it. Chips with an average cut of steak clumsily large & luke warm. I don’t like giving a poor review anywhere though have to tell it as I find it

Went this evening whilst on a short break in Edinburgh staying at the apex grassmarket hotel. Impressed with the quality of food, attentiveness of staff and price. No hesitation to recommend the restaurant.

Very poor . 7 girls for dinner Beef was off , bad smell . Agreed by staff . Unfortunately had to wait 1 hour for manager to come along . Arrogant & rude . Had our Dinner here. Staff polite food excellent. Had the salmon with a risotto absolutely delicious. We had an Apple tart for two for dessert. It,was a flat piece if pastry with e the caramelized apple on top with ice cream. Again absolutely delicious.

Just visited Metro Brasserie with my wife and 9 year old daughter. Food was excellent and the staff were very polite. We had the bar menu and the burger was brilliant. Spicy without being overly hot. My daughter loved the chicken. Will definitely be back.

Slow service, but food was good. It was too expensive when it looks and feels like a glorified cafeteria - plastic looking chairs and general bad design. The service was slow. However the staff are lovely.

Had a drink here while staying in the hotel, its a lovely bar and the cocktails are delicious, especially the mojito. Its just too quiet, no music, no atmosphere, would recommend calling into a pub across the street

Para ser honesto, reservamos este restaurante en línea bajo la impresión de que yo estaba reserva una mesa en el restaurante Heights, que está en la planta superior del hotel. Cuando llegamos en la noche del 1 de ene, descubrimos que el Heights estaba cerrada y no sería en realidad comedor en la Brasserie en la planta baja. que nos habíamos imaginado una agradable comida, en un entorno agradable con una vista fantástica del castillo, como ya se ha indicado en el leer de las alturas pero decepcionó que nos sentamos en un glorificado y muy iluminado estilo café. No puedo culpar al hotel por esto, probablemente debería tener doble nos registramos con ellos que estábamos en el Heights, un montón de restaurantes estaban cerrados el día de Año Nuevo. Decidimos intentar hacer lo mejor de la situación y pedimos nuestras comidas. Me había comido un bistec y patatas fritas rústicas, mi marido pidió el pescado y patatas fritas. Mi carne era muy pequeña, se suponía que había medio raro pero variaba desde bien hecho en uno de los extremos a mediano en el otro y literalmente no tenía sabor. Eran las 6 patatas fritas rústicas sin cocer en el medio y no muy agradable para comer. Mi marido dijo que su pescado y patatas fritas estaba bien, pero no hay nada que destacar. Teníamos 1 copa de vino y una copa de cerveza y la factura ascendían £47, muy caro cuenta yo diría que para una comida en el café glorificado!!! Pagamos y reducir nuestras pérdidas, retirarse al acogedor pub al otro lado de la carretera, y decide que no podíamos soportar la molestia de quejarnos. Tengo que mencionar que el personal era muy agradable y servicial, y que era una gracia salvífica de una comida muy fácil de olvidar. No volvería a probar el restaurante Heights.

Located adjacent to Reception, this is a good place to have a drink and meet people. A good selection of Scotch Whiskey and a range of draught beer.

Si el primer plato habían servido diferente podría haber dicho que este lugar era excelente pero estaba demasiado complicado. El pollo desmenuzado se servía en un pequeño estrecho pot de cristal - odio desafíos al comer. El resultado fue desordenada :( Sin embargo, el bistec de solomillo era delicioso y el desierto era igual de bueno. Tengo que decir que todo el personal fue excelente, especialmente la camarera (de Carlisle) que nos hizo sentir como en casa y cómodos durante toda la comida - ¡gracias! La vista desde el nivel superior del restaurante es excelente para los turistas para ver el castillo y Grassmarket por la noche.

Visitamos este restaurante 27/11/14 como una pareja, nos dieron un régimen de precios de dos campos con presecco por cada 30 libras, que fue una ganga.

We booked into the hotel late and were looking for someware to eat, the staff were polite and very attentive, the service was quick and the meal was delicious, it was very quiet though, so maybe thats why the sevice was quick,

Tuve el 3 campo 'Taste of Scotland", todavía estaba hambriento después . Con 2 cervezas de barril era casi 30 libras . La sopa de pescado era salada y en su mayoría guisantes , no obvias trozos de pescado . El único plato principal era diminuta, 2 golf-ball, sencillas rollos de pescado , varias diminutos trozos de , muchas algas, que sabía a nada pero sal . La vainilla natilla postre era bonita, pero bastante pequeña - el poco sólo un poco abundante.

Me alojé en el hotel, y, para ser sincero, me fui solamente porque otros lugares estaban llenos, además tuve un vale 10 libras. Resultó ser espléndido. Tuve la ensalada de la casa del chef de tomates, pepinos, verdes y vinagreta. Parecía bastante y estaba delicioso. Para mi principal, tuve la japuta frito de mar aplastado son estándar con patatas nuevas cosechas perdidas y espinacas con mantequilla de limón alcaparras. Las alcaparras habían frito también y crujiente y explotó con sabor. El limón salsa alcaparras fue realmente excepcional, así como el pescado. El servicio era genial, que es comparable al ruido en este hotel. Muy buena relación calidad-precio, también, incluso sin el bono.

Although the food was very tasty and good the waiter took ages to seat us and then was very rude, hardly spoke English and just over all very poor service.

Stayed within hotel for 2 nights and dinned within Metro Restaurant. Staff were fast and efficient during dinner and couldn't do enough for you. Food served was lovely and great value.

It was a very nice, chilled scene! Awesome place to hang with friends. The selection of alcohol is very nice, but that said, I am a man with only select tastes!

The food was nice good sized portions but a little expensive for what it was. However the fact our 20 month old granddaughter ate for free made up for this.

Metro Bar es de dos niveles. La planta baja se siente un poco de frío; pero el nivel superior alberga el bar, gran ambiente, y un completo servicio de menú. Los camareros y los camareros estarán encantados de ayudarle con selecciones Scotch, ya sea que usted es un experto o un principiante; y la comida (tuve el vientre de cerdo) fue muy bueno. Mientras que hay un montón de restaurantes en la ciudad, si te vas a quedar en el Apex y quieres una cena "en" - hacer la zona de bar y disfrutar.

Mientras se aloje en el Apex International para dos noches decidimos cenar en el restaurante para nuestra última noche. Reservamos nuestra mesa temprano por la tarde con la recepcionista que nos informaron que dieron copa de vino en la cena ... que no tuvimos! En la primera impresión las mesas son muy estrecho juntos, el interior es bastante agradable y moderno. El servicio era lento, dispersa y no muy bien dirigido. Los camareros y camareras dejaría sucios mesas por mucho tiempo y a pasar por ellos, y en la mayoría de las veces parado charlando con el otro. eran civiles no eran groseros ni nada, pero algunos no eran tan acogedores (de ahí una de las principales razones por las que no dejar una propina!) Nuestra comida tardaban mucho, cuando llegamos no había ninguna disculpa por el retraso y la comida era sosa y no la mejor calidad. Y no fue una buena relación calidad-precio. En general, estoy muy decepcionado en nuestra experiencia en el restaurante. no volveremos.

There's a decent selection of different kinds of foods, but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. I personally recommend the spinach salad, but I hear the chicken's also delicious.

Food was fine but service was shockingly inefficient. For this kind of money. You expect your bottle of wine to arrive before you finish eating.
