Amazing food and excellent hospitality. We had a friends’ reunion dinner and they catered for all our needs including allowing us to sing a couple of songs. We enjoyed every minute of our time there. I would definitely recommend this delightful place who wants to try authentic Eritrean/Ethiopian food.

We got the sharing platter for 4. We liked all the meats and the taste of the teff injera. I wish the menu was a bit more detailed, it would’ve made it easier to order ! It was pretty decent but not a restaurant I would go out of my way to go back to 🤷🏽‍♀️

We've become regulars due to the warm service and the authenticity of the food. The food is prepared fresh, serving portions are generous and the quality is 10/10 every-time we visit. Great visit for any occasion.

I had some delicious Ethiopian food after a climb with a friend for lunch. We opted for 2 x the mixed meat platter which they compiled into one big dish for us. It had one type of beef, lamb & chicken served on Injera with extra Injera on the side. All of them were delicious, good simple, tasty flavours classic to Ethiopian cuisine. Service was polite and attentive too.

No customers in the restaurant when I was there last Friday evening. Place looked run down with glass wall shattered. No problem, the reviews are good, so it must be a hole in the wall with great food and service. I was wrong. They didnt have the dish I wanted, so the waitress suggested 2 others, just saying that one was "the hotter of the two", so ordered that. That was VERY overpowering with raw chilli, to the point that it was the ONLY flavour I got and wasn't even merged with the dish, just raw and far too much. Being of Asian heritage, I could handle the heat, but when a dish is THAT hot, you really need to inform your customer on the spice levels, ensuring they know what they're in for! The rest of the service was dreadful. No cutlery provided once the dish was bought out. Even after asking for a knife and fork, nothing was bought out until I asked again. Then she said I can eat with my hands but bought over a long-handled teaspoon and fork. Even if I'm planning to eat with hands, better to give people the option to decide. I may wish to switch to cutlery at any point, it's not dry food after all. Secondly, I DID ask and nothing was bought over, until I asked for the second time. Thirdly, if a customer asks for a knife and fork (the basics), either bring that - or at least explain how to eat with the provided long-handled teaspoon and fork, if that's the tradition. I ordered a beer WITH my food. It was only once the waitress noticed I was sweating (towards the end of the meal) that she finally remembered the drink. I didn't want it by that point, so told her not to worry about it. Forgetting the cutlery and drink when I'm literally the only customer in the establishment because your procrastinating on your phone is unforgivable for a restaurant. Plus point is the meat was cooked okay, not much else. Enset next door was a better experience and I'll avoid this place.

Group of 4 for a quick dinner. The staff were very friendly, and showed us other dishes coming out of the kitchen to help us choose. The food was fresh and very tasty. We have the vegetarian shared platter for 3 we were all stuffed and left with a doggy bag. I would recommend

Didnt know what to expect Inititally. Was surprised by the taste in the food that seemed very authentic from the country. Not sure if I preferred the taste of the food or how nice the lady (not sure if owner) that served us was. 100% recommend it!

Lovely experience! The place meets up with all the good reviews. Friendly service with an unforgettable big smile. The food is so delicious. Fun experience eating it the traditional way with only hands. The lamb dish with hot pepper, rosemary and onion is simple yet so tasty. Gluten free option is available. Very affordable. Totally recommended. I'm sure to return again and again :)

For many years from living in Stockwell, I went to this restaurant copious times. Ethiopian food is fantastic. Full of flavour and spice. I love spicy food and I think overall it is my favourite food from anywhere in the world. Bare in mind that fresh food takes time. So you may have to wait longer than in other restaurants. But that is because the food is being prepared and cooked from scratch. Which is why it tastes amazing. I would often order ahead, but it is so worth the wait. I love their red meat dishes but there are vegetarian and vegan options too. Their customer service is outstanding and always friendly and welcoming. I love their honey wine and the hypnotic Ethiopian music is relaxing and creates a lovely relaxing atmosphere. One of the best restaurants in London. Seriously if you are a foodie, you need to check this out!

I have walked past this “hole in the wall” style restaurant a hundred times and never even considered going in until a friend recommended it. The food was absolutely incredible, filled with flavor and I ate until I couldn’t fit anything else into my belly! 9/10 and can’t wait to go back for more. 😋

Definitely my go to place where I can enjoy Ethiopian food for such a great affordable price. I recommend anyone looking to try somthing new to come down and try their great food. The staff there will make you feel at home and is such a great home like atmosphere where you can experience Ethiopian culture .

Lovely homely food, fast and friendly service. Alot if the locals go there and they are very friendly. You can also take a doggy bag home, plus you must try there honey wine, it's lovely.

Food is delicious, service needs improvement

This was our first visit to Meskerem. We walked in without a booking and there was plenty of space here on a Saturday night. This restaurant is usually busy with locals catching up and the football may be on behind the bar. But don’t let that put you off if you’ve never been here before as the staff are very welcoming and there is a good atmosphere. There is a fully stocked bar and they serve St. George’s Ethiopian beer here too. We ordered the Meskerem Special which consisted of veg and non-veg dishes accompanied by injera bread and hot chilli sauce. The whole meal was delicious but the highlight was the sizzling steak and the yellow lentil dish. Pretty good value for two people as well. Our host was very friendly and offered us a real Ethiopian coffee with cake after the meal. Overall, a highly recommended place if you’re looking for a great value and delicious meal.

The food here is always a delight. The dishes are rich, flavoursome, spicy (if that's what you choose - there's always mild if you prefer it that way) and traditionally served on delicious injera flatbread. The members of staff are very helpful and will guide you with enthusiasm through what is probably an unfamiliar menu for most people. They know the menu backwards - for example, we were recommended to switch from chickpea to lentil for one of our vegetable choices, because it would go with our chosen meat dishes better. It matched absolutely perfectly. We had lamb tibs (we had the spicy version, but there's a mild choice too). For beef, for the first time, we tried Ethiopia's answer to beef tartare – called kitfo – which can be served raw, rare or fully cooked. We asked for ours to be part raw, part well done to try both styles - both were delicious. I preferred raw, my girlfriend preferred cooked. In the past we have also had beef tibs and doro wat, which is a fantastic rich chicken dish. The vegetable dishes are just as delicious – the lentils in particular are a heavenly sort of thick warmly spiced velouté! If you want swanky surroundings, don't bother. If you want simply delicious food, served by welcoming and knowledgeable staff, what are you waiting for?!

There is a traditional and special food.

I have been going to this place for 3 years now (I used to live just next door, but although I moved further away, I keep going back)! The food is of high quality, only using fresh meat and vegetables. It's a family-run place and authentic Ethiopian atmosphere and friendly service is guaranteed. Ask for the owner for recommendations if you're not familiar with Ethiopian foods - I have never been disappointed,

We read the previous review and were not disappointed. The two lamb dishes we chose - tibs and shiro - were delicious and very good value for money. Next time we shall definitely order some vegetable dishes too. Authentic Ethiopian beer and coffee rounded off an excellent meal. If you are not familiar with Ethiopian food, allow the charming owner to talk you through the dishes on offer.This is not the Ritz, but if you want beautifully spiced, freshly prepared good food in a very friendly ambience you will be more than satisfied here.

Came across it by chance. Ethiopian cafe that serves the most delicious food, fantastic service. The owner was so helpful in guiding us to what to eat. Vegetarians and Meat eaters catered for. Deserves to be put on the map for great food and fantastic prices. Simple decor, very authentic, its primarily for the community , people popping in for ethiopian coffee (we were offered a free cup) their lovely spice tea. No concessions are made, you eat with your hand , which is surprisingly liberating if not messy for first timers. Bought smiles on the faces of the other customers. Highly reccomend
