Staying locally on business & found the Mermaid Fish Bar through Google Maps. I arrived close to closing time & was delighted that my fish & chips was cooked to order. The fish was perfect, the batter crisp & the chips, superb. I thought the wedge of lemon in the box was a really nice touch too. I’ll definitely be back when I’m next in the area.

After 15 years in the US, I wanted chips!! And these were wonderful British chips, and a large portion would've easily fed 3 normal people!!

A hidden treasure. My husband and I come from Northampton (UK) on the way to Stokenchurch to have their chips. Beautifully cooked, fresh and a good choice of food. The chap that owns/runs it is very friendly and chatty. Good old fashioned service which people want and love.

Soggy batter on fish, more pancake like than crispy batter. Curry sauce cold. Chips hard and Luke warm. While waiting for food someone bought their food back for a refund as it was inedible. Wish I'd followed their example rather than wait to get home to check it.

Batter on fish was soggy and undercooked, fish was watery and chips were hard and cold. Won’t ever make that mistake again for £16.

Cracking little village chippy just like I remember. Very generous portions and not greasy at all...fresh oil used which made a huge difference

My wife and I have been using this take away for many years. We have always found the food to be excellent and the portions large and the staff are very friendly. The present person in charge of the frying ensures the fish batter is crisp and the chips fresh.

Good, freshly cooked fish & chips/ pie, or anything you would expect a fish & chip shop to sell. They use good oil and (unlike many other fish shops) doesn't have the awful smell of over used fat. Very pleasant service & value for money.

Shop is very old fashioned could do with modernising

Nice enough chips, but the portion sizes are a bit small. You get more for your money at other chip shops a couple of miles away. Vegetarian options are a bit lacking, too.

Best chip shop in the area I travel from thame to get it. It is halal too which is great.

It's ok for fish and chips. Sometime the chips are a bit under cooked but not to bad. Very cheap prices which is great.

The chips here are second to none. I say this confidently as someone who doesn't really like chips very often but these are brilliant. I seem to remember it's a cash only place so bare that in mind.

Beautifully haddock, wife had plaice both were cooked spot on and we love their batter, chips were good as well

Was visiting the area and ate here at the mermaid. Cod & chips, served in a box which separated each portion, came with a slice of lemon too! Great portions, great food, and totally undersold at £5.20 Would gladly of paid more!

These guys are top class. Turned up as they were about to close and rather than turn me away cooked a fresh fish for me. Great service fish nice and crispy and chips were fine. Theyve upped their game with the boxes for the food and now a much better place with excellent reasonably priced food.

Great fish and chips , fresh and crispy

As a resident of Long Crendon this was my go to Fish and Chip shop. Not any more. They have now started using cardboard boxes which can't be recycled due to the amount of grease transferred to the boxes. The portion sizes have decreased with an increase in prices. Chips are now generally stale and dry and the fish is greasy. A token piece of lemon is included, presumably to look 'up-market', but it's all rather disappointing and sadly unappetising . I've been a customer of this chip shop since 1992. I am a customer no more!

This used to be the best Fish and Chip shop around, but not any more. The portions are small and often have that cooked in old oil taste. We go into Thame now. Shame because we only live a couple of miles from Crendon and having to go into Thame is inconvenient.

Been here a few times now - very friendly staff but only adequate food in the sense it’s hot and edible. It’s not disgusting by any means, but it is bland and could be so much better. This should be pretty simple to turn around, so hopefully someone there is paying attention to the recent spate of bad reviews on here!

Fish and chips pre cooked,dry ,tasteless and revolting. Buying for a 93 year old as a treat, we were both so disappointed. Never,ever again.

Used to be one of the best chippies around. I went there earlier in the year, the chips were soggy and tasteless and the sausage didn't taste right. I suspect it was the cause of me spending the next day close to the toilet. I won't be returning.

Had my first fish & chips since the summer and what a disappointment - soggy batter. How come the coastal shops can get it so right (try Brixham) but inland they can't. Sadly, it'll be next summer before I have f&c again.
