Mermaid Chippy in Kingston upon Hull, City of

I am not a fan of cleephorpes, but its the closest seaside to us, so easy for us to take the dog and a baby. We always get fish and chips (normally soggy fish and chips from somewhere else) we have been saying we will try some where new, so we rocked up here.... First impression looks standard. Nothing special. Tastes my fish... Batter is lovely and crispy... Chips crisp outside fluffy middle.... "yeah its nicer then our usual" dips my chip in my gravy... My husband had mushy peas with his (he seemed really happy with them... Until he tried my gravy) I have only actually left this review so I remember where to return.

Nice fish and chips, not bad but not amazing for the price or seaside expectations! Overpriced but expected to pay more for the location.

I've seen a lot of chippy's open and close again over the years in the area. If this one can keep producing this quality food then they could be one of the few that last and last.

AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!!!! After waiting an hour and a half we got a phone call to say they couldn't keep the food to temperature so wasn't doing our order, obviously fuming but after hearing other coplaints and seeing the food they were serving over Facebook I'm glad they cancelled!!!!!!

DO NOT ORDER!! Over two hours waited no notification, called place and they informed order was cancelled won just eat. Spoke to just eat and they had said they were not notified. Awful place. To not recommend at all.

Our order was 1 hour and 40 minutes late, when it arrived it was wrong, greasy and generally disgusting I tried to contact the take away numerous times but got no answer. Will not be ordering from here again

I had a fish and chips from mermaid it average ,the place not a good place to park the car plus fish is sloppy

Do not order from here!! Rank food went straight in the bin wouldn't even feed it to my dog. Owner didn't answer calls so had to contact just eat. Needs closing down!

The food was either swimming in gease or burnt beyond any recognition if taste. Sachets of sauce ordered were 3 and 3 months out of date. The dog ate well tonight... we re-ordered elsewhere

Good portions.food was nice only bad side was fish batter really really greasy.

Food was delicious. My only negative is the consistency of the gravy. It was very weak and watery. Otherwise fantastic all round

The only day I am in a rush my takeaway was almost 45 mins late. Right at the time it was due however they did ring to advise me it would be late even tho we only live in a mile radius of the shop. Safe to say I was pleased our food was still piping hot and delicious and worth the wait just shame I was extremely late for where I was going. Would still order again tho

Great takeaway and service the only problem was the cheeseburger the burger was too hard to eat but everything else was lovely.

Wasnt very happy really. We got pattiea which were very nice and so was the sausage but the spam was overly greasy. The chips were the worse they looked liked they had been over cooked and we were given the scrapings from the bottom.

Delicious, forgot bag of chips but was back within 10 mins with them. Onion rings are gorgeous too. Definitely recommend

Excellent quality. Food was cooked perfect, was still hot when arrived. I'm so glad I have found a nearby decent fish/chips delivery where I can pay online. Will be ordering again!

Chips have all the dark roots and bruises still left on them, some even partially green ..need some work, can't beat a nice clean freshly cooked chip .. also my Scampi was overcooked and the bread crumbs very dark .. rather than complain not wanting to be a nuisance I just gave it to the dog .. this chip shop has room for improvement ..

Best chippy tea i've had in ages!!! Everything was perfect including the price!!
