We booked a table, just in case, no steps so wheelchair friendly. We were showed to our table by a lovely lady who got us the menus. So much choice but i had a egg omelette with salad. So tasty and filling but then i was naughty and had lemon meringue pie with cream. The portion size was massive and so as i am diabetic i had to leave my meringue bit to my own heartbreak. Fully recommend- beautiful plac3, friendly staff and fabulous food

We only intended to pick up a coupe of Lemon Drizzle cakes we'd pre-ordered, but as it was getting close to lunch time and they only had ONE table free, we stopped for a light lunch - what a find! Had a couple of hot sandwiches between us and they were both delicious. Service was attentive and it was amazing how quickly the place filled up - you DEFINITELY need to book a table (people were being turned away!) We will be back for sure Oh, and the cakes are amazing too - so buy one even if you can't stay to eat

We fortunately booked a table for breakfast on a Saturday at 10am. We ordered coffee, glass of iced water (got a jug which was great) and English breakfast with 2 slices of toast, it was quick service. Lovely presentation on hot plates! 2 rashers of proper bacon, local sausage, fresh tomato, mushrooms and 2 eggs. No grease, no fatty bacon, no swimming in tomato juice. Butter for the toast. It was blooming lovely!! Will definitely come again. By the way the meringues are out of this world and beautiful bread but you have to be early it’s in demand.

We were visiting Love brewing and enquired about any good coffee shops nearby and Meringue was recommended. It was just a few doors away down the street .On entering the cafe we were greeted with a smile and made welcome .There was a lovely range of cakes and tray-bakes and pies .I'm sure there was more but my eyes were on all the delicious looking cakes ! We had cappacuino and cake and weren't disappointed . Lovely !! We were served outside at the side of the property which was very cute and warm as there were patio heaters .Service was excellent and everything was very clean and tidy and subject to Covid restrictions. A place to definitely return to .

So, during lockdown etc I have been doing the 'baking my own bread' bit and thinking I am getting good at it, and then I get a meal from these guys who show off by making perfect bread, beef wellington and desserts. Yes it came with lovely flowers and a nice duck salad and a scented candle, not to mention the sides. I had the valentine meal AND the afternoon tea which was too much irresistible food. I mean after all that beautiful food how am I supposed to feel pleased with my feeble attempts and how can the rest of the week compare. Thank you for being so good. it was a lifeboat for our tastebuds during the rough sea of isolation.

The best Bakewell tart I’ve ever tasted! Called in on Saturday afternoon and had fabulous Stilton and broccoli quiche and soup. Lovely mushroom soup with just baked granary roll. Great coffee plus the aforementioned Bakewell tart and lemon meringue pie together with great friendly service made this a memorable visit. Can’t wait for Saturday...again! Ps I was with my partner!

I was travelling from North Lincs to Congleton and actually had no idea where I was when I saw the open sign and a car parking space open up. I was very hungry but didn't have great expectations as I chose it because I was sitting at traffic lights. What a surprise! I ordered a simple ham sandwich and cappuccino, the coffee made me say Wow out loud and the roll came with an exquisite salad with beautiful dressing. Really lovely.

I ordered 10'' lemon meringue to be picked up on the 4th September as we wanted something different for our wedding instead of a boring iced wedding cake and we were not disappointed. I ordered a couple of weeks in advance through Facebook and it was quick and easy and nearer the date they rang me for payment over the phone. Easy collection so all I had to do was go in pick it up and straight back out again very good service. The meringue was beautiful and perfect for our wedding and everybody loved it thank you meringue bakery.

If you are heading for a walk around the Chatsworth Estate and are driving through Chesterfield to get there, this is a good place to grab a takeaway lunch. If simple, fresh and tasty rolls and impossibly big portions of Victoria sponge, carrot cake and lemon meringue pie float your boat, give them a go.If they did a picnic box with a roll, drink, crisps and cake/scone it would be even better. Will definitely drop by again when we are in the area.

Really didn’t rate this place last time I visited but it was a friends birthday , so really didn’t like not attending, it was just a table for 4, again it was very very loud, we were not a loud gang as where none of the guests but the space between tables is ridiculous , hope there is never a fire ,think people would struggle.Really could not hear one another speak, or have a conversation without saying “ just say that again “ it was really noisy. Our food was lovely really nice, price is good , but for some reason table space is so important to them , I overheard someone who had not booked a table ask if they could use the table for four, the guy said yes you can but if someone else needs a table for two you will have to share , to which they agreed , not sure about this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.Last.y our table for four was mid room, I went to the toilet, and to my horror they had a plain glass high table on the end of the cafe on your turn to the toilet. I nearly didn’t see this until the last min , I was really frustrated that needs to be removed, totally wrong place to be placed Accident waiting to happen , I nearly walked into a breast high glass table ,imagine anyone elderly. Please show some respect for your paying customers , not for your profit. Not good.

I MUST try to remember to take pictures before I devour my food at Meringue. I would always recommend reserving a table here if you can as it always fills up quickly. Had a brunch with friends. Decided to try the porridge, found it creamy and filling with lovely nuts and fruit topping, drizzled with thick Greek yogurt and honey, would definitely have it again. Husband tried the pancakes, they looked delicious. He couldn't resist having toast as well, it's their own freshly made in house bread which is thickly sliced and best eaten with proper butter. As it was brunch it would have been rude not to have had cake too! I had the fig frangipane and husband had his favourite pecan pie both served with cream and washed down with tea. I can never fault the food here, my only issue is narrowing down my for choices each time I visit as the specials board is always filled with fabulous choices too

We booked ahead and so glad we did, the place was packed. The servers were really nice despite having two picky kids, one gluten free, one dairy free and a large group of eight they managed really well. The front of the shop doesn't have much parking but the windows are inviting and you can buy cards, pies, bread and cakes to take home. When sat you can read the paper, there's no free WiFi unfortunately but the kids we're happy to chat for a while. The only issue we had was nothing to do with food and we understand when everything is made to order it's going to take some time but we waited an hour for our food after ordering. The drinks were served promptly. The pricing is good 5-10 pounds for a main course and 5 for pud. Drinks wise everyone was happy I really liked my soya milk tea and the children were very impressed with their milkshakes. I can recommend my avacado and prawn salad and no one left anything so it must have been good. Gluten free deserts were frangipam and chocolate brownie. I didn't ask about dairy free as puddings even without dairy are no good for my waist line! Everyone really liked their puds. The kids had chocolate cake and a Victoria sponge, the meringue looked mental! I think it's a great place and would be happy to visit again.

My friend who lives in the Chesterfield area and I visited this lovely cafe for a light lunch mid week. We arrived around 1pm to find the place buzzing with people so were very glad that we'd booked a table. We both had sandwiches which were pleasant and served with a generous salad. We supplemented these with a dish of what I think were handcooked chips which tasted great. For pudding we both chose the lemon meringue pie which was delicious. If I had to make any criticism, which is difficult because the food and service were spot on, it would be to say that my coffee was on the weak side and therefore tasted unappealing. It's such a shame that I don't live locally but it gives me an excuse to arrange regular meetings with my friend to enable me to return to this delightful cafe.

My husband and I visited this cafe on Saturday 13th May at 11.15am. It was busy, which is a good sign of an excellent cafe...so we thought. However, when we were seated near to the door, the waitress asked if we knew which drinks we would like to order, we said no, it was our first visit so we wanted to peruse the menu. We were passed a menu and were advised that the waitress would be back within a few minutes to take our order. Okay, so far so good, or so we thought. The menu passed to us has no drinks listed, in fact it has only one page of items which were desserts. Not to be deterred, I located a menu from the window display. All I will say is that we waited well over 10 minutes for any waitress to take our order...which never happened. Now you might think it's because we were out of the main cafe area, but this place is also a bakery and several people came in to purchase fresh bread and were promptly served. The young waitress that did originally sit us down also passed twice, which you would think might alert her to the fact we'd been forgotten about, but no, she never even acknowledged us. We left absolutely disgusted in the poor customer service provided and visited another coffee shop just up the road called Libby's that was equally as busy, but we were attended to immediately. We won't be back to Meringue and certainly wouldn't recommend it. There is no excuse for forgetting your customers, regardless of how busy you are!

I have been to meringue several times, always busy and as some have commented great meringues. So a café/bakery and now trialing Saturday evening dinners. This was their third night and seemed pretty full. As the lady (owner?) advised us they are still 'tweaking it' But all credit to them. Attentive and pleasant staff, tables nicely laid, kitchen area screened off for dinner service. Menu was good and all of us had starters , mains and desserts -well I did not have a dessert but tasted all the others.good food with some variations that needed adjusting. So a few other comments-special boards was difficult to read, by was read to us. Nice palate cleanser after starter-which I am ashamed to say got wrong in terms of what it was. Main courses nicely served and tasty. A little bit disorganized but this place is open during the day as well, so again all credit to them. Dauphnoise potatoes undercooked and when we got the bill, they had removed the charge for the bottle of wine. Very generous gesture, which we in fact refused and insisted on paying the full price. Believe they need to look at wine prices as listed at £20 for all, possibly a bit high. So again really hope they do well and we will return

Service is good and although a mistake was made with our bill it was put right without any fuss. The take out is also good and I have enjoyed both steak and chicken pies from here. A nice part of the slowly changing Chatsworth Road.

I've visited twice now and enjoyed both occasions! Even simple orders like toast and jam are lovely and really tasty. The cakes are amazing. Such a lovely and cosy atmosphere :)

Both my partner and I popped in during a visit to the area.A very deceiving place as from the outside its small, but once your in its huge, with lots of tables and a few sofas. The aroma when you walk in of fresh coffee and bakery products made the old jowls water wit anticipation of what was on offer. We arrived mid morning and the place was very much full with locals and also tables reserved.A sign that this place is thriving and good produce. We were sat for minutes and were met swiftly by a staff member. We both had the coffee which was great and both chose home baked cakes which were outstanding. We ended up purchasing some fresh bread which was very good . To sum up..we have found a little gem in the heart of Brampton, which we will return again soon . Thank you for an enjoyable visit

I go most Saturdays and by far the best Cafe in Chesterfield. Can't fault anything, lovely friendly staff and the food is always fresh and delicious. Afternoon tea is great and you get a lot. Yes it can get busy but well worth the wait.

Sue & Neill thank you, for a lovely special lunch, for us to share with our friends. From homemade soup of the day, through to the always great Meringue. As usual freshly prepared, delicious food, served by the friendliest people. Thank you.

We booked afternoon tea at Meringue during the Chatsworth Road Festival and what a a treat it was. Excellent service and a lovely atmosphere in the cafe. There was a good choice of fillings in the finger sandwiches and the cakes and scones were yummy. The best was the lemon meringue pie which was fabulous. One of the best afternoon teas I have had and look forward to a repeat visit soon.

Meringue is a bakery/cafe everything is made on site, bread, pies and adorable cakes. I've visited today with a friend but have been several times before. I've had the afternoon tea which was huge and beautiful. Today I had coffee and lemon meringue. I simply love the lemon meringue pie. I have eaten lunch too wrote and it has always been lovely, it is cafe food rather than restaurant food, but is delicious. I visit regularly and have never had anything but a very good experience.

We had a random stop off here for a cup of coffee as opposed to going in to town as our usual Saturday jaunt takes us. So pleased we did! Lovely really room with a great open plan bakery/kitchen. Very interesting to watch. Initially we ordered 3 coffees with no intention of eating. However I decided later on an egg mayo sandwich on homemade granary with a dressed side salad. Wowsers! Never thought I'd hype so much over such a normal dish but my goodness it was amazingly delicious! That salad is simply scrumptious.Mum and dad decided to then have deserts and opted for the bakewell tart and lemon meringue....wow! Sensationally big slabs that they said were the best they've ever had...and believe me, their quite the conneseur when it comes to tea rooms.Service was fab...the lady who served us was very pleasant. This is now going to be our treat place!

Went yesterday for the first time, and it definitely won't be the last! Place was spotlessly clean, staff friendly and welcoming. We originally went in just for coffee but, when we saw the cakes they had on offer, we had to try them - and they were delicious! My wife absolutely loves lemon meringue and theirs was to die for, the best she's had. I had the iced Bakewell tart and my daughter had egg mayo sandwich with salad. We all really enjoyed it and look forward to our return visits!

We enjoyed scrumptious warm Bakewell tart and ice-cream with coffee in this spacious popular café. Glad we were there for coffee as most of the tables were booked for lunch. The breads and cakes on sale looked good too. Helpful and friendly service.

I like a bacon sandwich with crispy bacon - but not that really thin stuff. It's nigh on impossible to get proper bacon cooked 'til crispy but not randomly scorched. At Meringue they can get it right. Today I had a perfect bacon sandwich on perfect bread with lovely, smiley service. They're not just good at bacon sandwiches. Their homity pies are delicious. I used to make my own - but not anymore. Keep up the good work!

It is always difficult to resist the gorgeous lemon meringue pie; so sometimes you just have to indulge - well it would be rude not to! However there is always lots of choices for both sweet and savoury We enjoyed lunch which is all cooked to order, served hot and timely. At popular times it is recommended to book to guarantee a table.

I visited Meringue on Monday with some friends after a recommendation from my sister. I must say I don't share her enthusiasm for the place. The service was terribly slow, we waited over half an hour for our order to come to the table. Bearing in mind we all had cold lunches this amount of waiting time is unacceptable. The food was ok but in my opinion overpriced, £7.50 for a slice of quiche and salad. The waitress was lovely, chatty and friendly. I think lunchtime service needs to be speeded up as most people would steer clear of this place if they only have an hour lunch break from work.

considering the hype this cafe has received I was sorely disappointed when I visited myself after recommendations from friends and family. It was a very average café that sells expensive cake and bakery products. I was not happy with the service, the sticky table or the fact that the only dish suitable for my coeliac and egg free diet was a side of roast potatoes, which for about six average roasties cost over £3

Visited today with my Mum and two Daughters for a Belated Mothers Day treat. The table was laid out ready with pretty crockery and a candle. Lovely selection of freshly made sandwiches and a varied cake selection. Scones were brought to us freshly baked. We didn't managed all the cake, so this was boxed up to take home. Good value for money and would definitely recommend.

Birthday lunch treat from my friend and was not disappointed. We had mature cheddar and chutney on a brown homemade cob and tuna mayo on a white cob , with a lovely dressed salad and a portion of there roasti potatoes, beautiful.Afterwards it was a hard decision to choose which cake we were having but we settled on a portion of chocolate ganache and one of Victoria sponge with lemon , both served with the cutest mini jug of cream . Can't wait to return.

My friend and I visited meringue for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. It was larger inside than it looked. The staff were very nice and there was a good variety on the menu. We opted for sandwiches that were beautiful and fresh and the roasties were a hit too. To finish we were spoilt for choice with the homemade cakes. We will definatly be back for more!

I took my car in for a service and popped into Meringue on a whim. We were early and it was quiet, but not for long, it is obviously well known. My husband and I had different breakfasts and really enjoyed the food and the ambiance of the place. Lots of fresh breads to buy too.

Had a lovely bripunch here today, I ordered poached eggs on toast and was surprised to get 3 eggs, which were perfectly poached. The tea was lovely, tea leaves and not a tea bag. The cafe was really busy and the other food that I saw coming out looked lovely. You can also buy cakes/scones and bread to take away.

Recommended by a friend, we decided to try lunch at this friendly café. Lucky we arrived early as by 1pm it was absolutely packed. No wonder, the food had that home cooked flavour but did not skimp on visual presentation either. I had cod fillet, spinach baked with cheese and followed by lemon meringue pie.We will be back, but will make sure we book in advance.

Always friendly, and a very pleasant place to be in. Neil and Sue work their socks off, but they always welcome you with a smile. The food is made by themselves, and always fresh and delicious. It is a very welcoming and homely place, one of the best. You may have to wait at lunch time, but as Neil prepares everything himself that is to be expected, and worth the wait. Our favourite place .

Come on, Chesterfield. What’s wrong with you? Excellent beer, with the brewery round the back; pints under £3; great live music; and there’s only a dozen or so in on a Sunday evening.

Had a tasty mocha in pleasant surroundings, people watching from the raised area. Not a fantastically large selection, but all quality beverages and snacks. My mocha was nicely presented and tasted great. What more could you ask for.

First visit here but definitely would not return. The breakfast was over cooked, luke warm and poor quality sausages with the over easy egg cremated and uneditable. No thank you or goodbye as we were leaving. I did give my feedback to staff who said he’d pass it on to the kitchen.
