Merchant of Venice in Leicester

The delivery took almost 3 hours. The food was stone cold. I reheated it in the microwave-the potatoes went hard. The mince tasted like sand. I want a complete refund.

Good service and atmosphere however good experience was very poor. I ordered the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs from the breakfast menu. The eggs were overcooked and there was barely any salmon in the dish at all apart from a few very small pieces. Disappointing

Lovely little gem! The decor is beautiful, and the staff were very friendly. We popped in on a whim and both enjoyed the pasta with salmon - really delicious. Service was a little slow but we didn't mind because there was some musical entertainment which also added to the atmosphere. A nice intimate restaurant - would be perfect for a date. Thank you!

Visited 2 times this place. Taste = Good Ambience = Average ( but Vintage ) Staff = Good Service = Good Some items that i ordered there was chocolate cake & Hot Chocolate, both tasted different during my 2 different visits over a year. Overall its good in city center area. Must Visit once.

Very nice Americano early morning

Was anxious to go in but immediately felt calm and comfortable our server Donna was amazing she was very polite and patient. Service was very friendly and quick. The food was incredible so tasty and fresh amazing flavours. 100% recommend to anyone to give this place a try! Beautiful cozy atmosphere little lights and decor made the place feel very timeless and lovely.

The food here was beautiful, with very good portions. The waiter, Jay, was extremely attentive and service was excellent. We loved the quirky decor. Will definitely be returning

I am a regular customer at this restaurant and recently had a large party of 23 people eat here. In I booked 1 month ago for my girlfriend and I for 24th February, it was all accepted, I received an email a few days ago, saying sorry we do not have a place for you as fully booked ???? That is appalling I called a month ago and you told me it was all booked accepted only to phone me a mint later cancelling my booking??? That is very bad of you, on how you have done this. Did you get a bigger booking and decided to cancel mine.

We dropped in here after the y theatre on Saturday night. We had not booked but got a table straight away even though it was busy. The food was amazing, staff were so friendly and efficient. There was a man playing the saxophone which gave a lovely atmosphere. It was also excellent value for money. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

I was here on my own, even tho I turned up like 30 mins before my reservation time, I was able to be seated straight away. The waiters did take quite a while with table service ngl, when my table had been cleared, it was around 20 mins until I got the bill. I got the vibe that since I was there on my own, I may have been lower down on priority list. Because once the table next to me were seated, they had their order taken basically right away (which wasn't the case for me), and they got their bill quite quickly too- Just a small thing that I noticed, and it may have been coincidental ? Idk. That is the only slight negative thing I have to say about my visit. Aside from that point, the food was really tasty, well seasoned. I think this is the perfect place to have lunch, as long as you have around an 1hr 20 mins of free time, the atmosphere of the restaurant was friendly and not loud at all !! I recommend the halloumi fries, and the penne alla venezian (?) Idk if I spelled that correctly, but they had great portions and were really good, would definitely come back here again and try something different.

Booked a table for Saturday 1st, 8 people in total, the waitress was amazing, remembered 8 starters, 8 mains and our different drinks by memory, everything came spot on, food is scrumptious, drinks likewise, we then had a complimentary magician at our table who was witty and brilliant, will certainly be coming back. Thank you all.

Work do, 11 of us. Each course was delivered in a timely manner, and each dish was cooked to PERFECTION! The service was wonderful too. A lovely establishment! I thoroughly recommend an evening here...and the sea bass was the best I've ever tasted!

It was a delight to visit this restaurant for both breakfast and later on for cocktails and takeout desserts. Even the tap water was presented in a tall decorative glass with a gold rim. Breakfast consisted of a bacon ciabatta, a generous slice of tiramisu, and a coffee each (my daughter and l shared the food). We returned in the afternoon to enjoy the cocktails, which were superb and 2 for 1 between certain hours. The ambience is relaxing and the decor is so tastefully done, you forget you are in the city, just over the road from the busy train station. We purchased a few cakes to sample at home, which were delicious. I've priced only for breakfast and not the cocktails

Never been before so not sure what to expect. Perfect place with superb food and great service. Such a lovely change from the same old run of the mill chains. Lovely touch with the saxophonist playing too. Very authentic restaurant and will be back!

A lovely setting and very nice food, particularly the Arrabiatta ! The live music was a fab touch to our evening. Can't wait to come back again.

One of the best Italian meals I have ever had! I was in Leicester to see my team (Crystal Palace) play at the King Power stadium and booked here for a proper meal before heading to the game. The service from Nish and Sujeesh was fantastic, the decor and ambience wonderful and the food, wow. I had the spinach and ricotta cannelloni. It was served at the perfect temperature, the pasta was al dente and the sauce was incredible. Afterwards I wandered over to the dessert/cake cabinet and selected the tiramisu - again, wow!! Don’t be put off that this is located at a fairly busy traffic junction, it matters not when you are virtually taken off to Italy to enjoy traditional, excellent food - you could be anywhere. I guarantee I will return when next in Leicester!

We paid another lunchtime visit and our table of eight were once again treated to great friendly service and super food. One lady thought her panini base a tad hard and another thought her cannelloni was a little stodgy but everyone else was very happy. The lasagne looked fantastic but my tagliatelle bolognaise was exceptional. So, thank you Patricia and your team, and compliments also to chef Josef.

Super yummy! Big portions it was great Alicia in particular was fantastic as a waitress... had the pasta and some of the chips/potatoes and they were great!

We saw this restaurant from our hotel and the manager kindly fitted our group in on a busy Friday night. The service and food were excellent. Also a wonderful saxophone player to add to the ambiance. Tempted to go back a second night.

I am writing this whilst still at the table. Stunning service, beautiful setting, wonderful atmosphere (love the saxophonist) and the food is to die for. Highly recommend.

Fantastic coffee and very welcoming staff.

We have wanted to eat here for quite some time and it didn't disappoint. Luckily we got a table even though we didn't book but I would advise you do book in advance, as it's very popular. The service was top standard and the atmosphere lovely. Most of all the food was excellent and extremely good value for money. We had a lovely time. Can highly recommend!

Really good ambiance and amazing food!

Had an amazing lunch at this lovely restaurant today, it really was like being in Venice!

This should have been the perfect venue for our gathering of 18 friends, all in the same room upstairs. But sadly even though we had pre-ordered our food, it was not. Waiting over an hour for our starters, then when the mains eventually turned up some meals were almost cold, although others were fine. Would be a great venue, if the kitchen and staff were organised.

On a misty night, I dropped in for a bite. What a treat! Penne with chicken and mushrooms, in a wonderful creme sauce. I have to go back, because I had no room for all the enticing desserts.

Chilled vibe service was friendly but had to be reminded about getting a drink. Food is spot on and nice and fairly priced recommended

It is rare to find a delicious Italian restaurant in the UK. It specializes in traditional Italian-style pasta and main dishes, especially the most traditional beef sauce lasagna and sea bass. These are very delicious and the quality is very good. In addition, the restaurant offers different cheesecakes, which I strongly recommend to try.

Came down to MOV for a few drinks with friends. A lovely place to hangout, amazing service by Dev 💯 I would recommend MOV to anyone looking for a spot in Leicester

Merchant of Venice in Leicester is an incredibly charming place. The design and ambiance are stunning, and the attention to detail makes it very cozy and inviting. We didn't get the chance to try the food, but it looked very appealing and well-presented. Unfortunately, we were disappointed with the hot chocolate we ordered—it didn't meet our expectations. Additionally, the service was a bit slow, which seemed to be due to a lack of staff. Despite these issues, the food's quality, based on its appearance, seems promising. While I wouldn't recommend their hot chocolate, the food might be worth trying if you're visiting. Overall, the venue is lovely and worth visiting, especially if you enjoy aesthetically pleasing settings. It's a really cute and impressive place. The design and ambience of the place is quite nice; The attention to detail makes this place very warm and inviting. We did not have the opportunity to try their dishes, but their presentation looked quite attractive and appetizing. We ordered hot chocolate, but unfortunately we didn't like it at all; It did not meet our expectations. Also, the service was a little slow, we think this is due to the small number of employees. Despite these problems, the appearance of the dishes looks good quality and worth trying. I don't recommend the hot chocolate, but I recommend trying the food. Overall, an aesthetic and pleasant

Great aesthetics with very tasty food and amazing service :) The swing seats are a great idea, very creative and add more personalisation to the experience. The music was a little louder than we would have wanted, made conversation difficult at times.

This is a lovely little place, the atmosphere is wonderful, the staff were welcoming and friendly. We went for dinner before an event at the De Montford Hall, we explained this to them and asked if we could be served fairly quickly - they were amazing! Fast service, amazing food! It was that good we visited again the next morning for breakfast. I'll make sure to book any time I visit Leicester. Highly recommend.

Visited for the first time3 nights ago and was pleasantly surprised. There was a warm welcome, decent choice on the menu, quick service and the food was delicious. The ambience was almost intimate and was the perfect place for our anniversary meal. We were waited on by Dev and Nishara and received excellent service. Will definitely visit again.

The food in this restaurant is excellent, from appetizers to main dishes and desserts. The service is very friendly and courteous, and the prices are very reasonable.

Nice coffee but too hot coming out of machine and the cup handles are too small to lift the cup lovely coffee but these little things matter interms of consuming, service was slow and I am not sure just how authentic Italian it claims to be would have expected Italian speaking waiters and waitresses ??

We’ve come back here after having our second date here 2 years ago. Just like then, everything, from food to service to atmosphere was just 10/10. I really couldn’t give enough praise to the staff who were just so accommodating, friendly and smiley all the time. The food easily compares to that in Italy. So flavourful and the portions are beyond generous. You can book a table ahead of time online which is very convenient. Also you always know a good Italian spot when the Italians eat there!

A good experience. Abundant dishes. They use olive oil. And the treatment is very pleasant. We tried cannelloni. Bolognese noodles and Venetian macaroni. All very good.

This spot is excellent. We had the privilege of being served by Dina and Devita, who were so kind. We was in a rush as we had somewhere we needed to go, and they were so helpful in telling us approximately how long it would take for the food to be ready, which was not long at all. The pasta was gorgeous, and a generous portion size. Whilst eating, we was asking whether everything was okay and if there was anything that we needed, which was very much appreciated. Absolutely recommend!

Had a fantastic salmon tagliatelle here

We came on a Tuesday evening for a colleagues leaving meal and the they had a 'pasta night' offer. The food was tasty but was expecting better. The lady serving our table may have been new as she seemed a little forgetful. A pleasant evening however.

My mum, dad, brother and I had a three-course lunch here before going a Leicester football match and we had a lovely time. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was friendly and authentic, and the service was excellent. We weren’t intending to have three courses but everything was so nice we ended up staying longer than planned.

Had an evening meal with friends before a show at the Y theatre and had a great meal there. The service was fantastic by Grace and Dona and they went out of their way to ensure we had a lovely meal. Friendly and personable and I’d say the food was great value!! I would definitely recommend a visit here! Anytime of day as the coffee and cakes are delicious too!

We had a very pleasant meal here. The atmosphere was excellent, especially the live music. The staff were very helpful and couldn't do enough to help, particularly Grace. The quality of food was excellent considering the price. We went here as a date night and this would be an ideal venue for such an occasion

Exquisite early evening meal with my daughter before De-montfort Hall show. What a lovely experience, our choice of meal was taken by the lovely Grace. We had the full monty, starter, main and managed a fabulous dessert. Really pleasant atmosphere with nice background music and Italian songs which gave us a nice continental feel. This was my second visit and I'm sure there will be more. I can 100% recommend this establishment.
